— Pixy Misa He wasn't always a unilateralist, cowboy, illegal war monger.
What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne. What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income — to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear — I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He's a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.
But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaida. I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars.
Thanks to Slublog.
Oh and the UK Parliament voted down David Cameron's request for intervention in Syria. The last time that happened to a Prime Minister was in 1782 when Parliament decided against continuing the war against the American colonies. Historic!
Update: John Kerry's live speech on Obama's drive to war.
Thanks to RD for that link.

The inventor of the foam finger, recently used by Miley Cyrus in her train-wreck act at the VMA awards, said Cyrus “degraded” his invention, which he called a “national icon.”
Steve Chmelar, who created the original foam finger in 1971, told Fox Sports, "She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it. Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident. For people who like that kind of entertainment, I'm sure that it met their needs."

The O-bots are trotting out their stale old circumlocutions from the last round of bombing the fuck out of other countries without Congressional authorization, to include the classic "time-limited, scope-limited kinetic military action".
The GOP in Congress should adopt that same approach in economic matters.
Liberals want a higher minimum wage? Give it to 'em! Good and hard. But time-limited and scope-limited.
$10 an hour M/W? Fuck off with those half measures. Make it $20.
But make it "time-limited, scope-limited economic intervention". Which is preprogrammed to sunset in January of 2017.
The resulting total economic havoc will speak for itself, and Republicans can shrug and say, "Liberals demanded this. Obama insisted on this. We gave them what they asked for. You see the outcome."

I'm starting to wonder when the time will come when we, the American people, bruise his ego enough to throw a missile-lobbing tantrum at us. I'm watching this in Syria closely, not only because of world repercussions, but what he's capable of doing right here in the US.

“There is an irony there that we’re now paying for the mistakes of George Bush and it hampers the United States’ ability to do something about somebody murdering his own people with weapons that are clearly against international law to use."
It's getting steeper and deeper by the minute here.
First we had the revelations that Prince Bandar was dispatched by the Saudis to try to coerce Putin into backing down on support for Assad.
Then it leaked that one of Bandar's blandishments to Putin was to keep the upcoming Sochi Olympics free from Chechen Islamic terror attacks, because Bandar revealed that Saudi intelligence control those terror groups. (And how about the Tsarnaevs in Boston, hmmmm?)
Now it's being alleged that Bandar actually was the source for the chemical weapons that inflicted the rebel casualties. The Saudis allegedly provided the arms, and the rebels weren't trained in handling them, and they own-goaled themselves after a stack of the sarin rockets cooked off in rebel positions.
So about that "international law" stuff again...

People seem puzzled why President Obama is intent on forging ahead on this Syrian thing, alone if need be. His commitment to military action seems out of character for the President, who seems to hate the foreign policy, geopolitical aspects of his job. If you ask me (and nobody is), it was Vladimir Putin's 'monkey with a hand grenade' comment that did it. Putin knew precisely what he was saying, what the 'monkey' connotations mean in American parlance, and no doubt flew it by his American cultural experts to ensure it had maximum provocative effect on the President, who is notoriously thin-skinned. No way no how is the President going to abide that kind of slur. Obama's been dissed, and he means to bomb the shit out of Syria. He will not be mocked.
Of course, this begs the question: what's Putin after? Was this a test of some kind, a way to see how Obama responds under the pressures of a real-time military crisis? Is this a way to get the US military bogged down in yet another Middle Eastern shithole? No answers anywhere. No clear strategy. No national interests at stake. No, just no.

To be honest, I think that would be the worst thing he could do. That would give the MFM a chance to focus on Bush, the apex of their most searing hatred, instead of being forced to pay attention to the colossal fuckups of the Mocha Messiah. The last thing we want is for the MFM to be given something shiny that they can use to distract from Obammy's jug-eared fucktardedness.

That option, former President Jimmy Carter said Friday, would be a grave mistake.
"A punitive military response without a U.N. Security Council mandate or broad support from NATO and the Arab League would be illegal under international law and unlikely to alter the course of the war," he wrote in a statement. "It will only harden existing positions and postpone a sorely needed political process to put an end to the catastrophic violence."

Obama is running at him full speed.>>
It will be similar in result and reaction to the Clothesline scene from the original Longest Yard.

I have no illusions that any minds in 30 Rock would be changed, but if they were to be "forced" (so to speak) to show GWB disagreeing with this insanity, maybe it would open some minds on the other end of the broadcast. As it stands, the minimal Republican pushback on this is being all but ignored. They coouldn't possibly ignore the Devil Incarnate Boooosh talking smack about their hero.
Of course, all this presupposes GWB ain't down with the notion of lobbing bombs and following it up with some damn fool boots on the ground nationbuilding exercise. For all I know, he still believes that we can fix these savages.

I know this is at WND, but we're all familiar with the story of the German homeschoolers who sought asylum here in the US, but got shipped back to Germany thanks to Obammy.
Well, now the Germans have taken away their children:

sheÂ’s not looking to fill the role of House Speaker again anytime soon.
Despite being as dumb as a rock she's cunning enough to have probably figured out that one shouldn't be around when it all goes to hell. And it will go to hell sometime during Barack's second term.

Dope at NYT sez no-vote leaves Britain "searching for its role in the world".
I know, how about "Finder of clues for Obama."?

Why tempt fate? You know Hollywood won't make a 2nd without contradicting the theme of the first and turning it into propaganda piece for Big Government.
'As a small family, alone in the big world, the Incredible family must team up with Capt. O, Wonder Wobama, and a host of diverse, progressive hereos to teach the world a lesson of compassion, sharing, and submitting to your betters in government. Rated PG. (13542 min.)'

My stepson signed up last summer and just before he took the oath to enter MEPS, he went and got a tattoo.
*face palm*
"Let me see it!"
It was a big ass Celtic cross on his right shoulder, thankfully completely hidden unless he had his shirt off. His mother and I warned him not to get anymore or risk his enlistment. His SSgt even frowned saying the new rules were very strict about tats that could end up disqualifying some people.

The seriousness, the breathless excitement, the solemnity, the deceit, the reporting of rumor as fact, the reporting of hearsay as fact, the secret inside unnamed important government officials with which the ABC reporter has a long working relationship. All of that in 20 seconds, or less.

How much is a Tomahawk worth? A $million?
How many hungry children could we feed with that?
How many homeless can we house with that?
How many schoolbooks and pencils would that buy?
How many rounds of golf would that buy?
How many separate vacations for the first family would that buy?
How much birth control for post grad sluts would that buy?
How many subsidies for rich Tesla buyers would that buy?
Just practicing.
