On CNN Now: Interview With Zimmerman Juror

She said 5 of the 6 jurors thought the voice calling for help was Zimmerman. The sixth wasn't sure.

She says she found the Sanford PD detective credible when he said he didn't think Zimmerman was lying. She wasn't impressed with Jeantel (however you spell her name) and felt bad for her getting caught up in the whole thing.

They are going to talk to defense lawyers about the jurors statement and show more later.

Related...a good article (one of the few) on the trial and verdict. Some people actually can challenge their pre-existing assumptions and be swayed by facts.

And if the 6th wasn't sure enough, that may mean at first she wanted to convict, but the rest of the jury used that "doubt" in the opposite direction: if you aren't "certain" it was Trayvon, it could have been Zimmerman, which blows the reasonable doubt for manslaughter and murder 2

On the Slate piece,

I wish we'd stop saying "Zimmerman was morally culpable"  I'm not really sure he is. I'm not sure he's not either.

There's far to much knowledge required to make that judgment in this particular case, it'll be up to God, that's about it.  He's the only one with all the facts to make that call.

I actually only know the term "oreo" because I had a friend back in college who was constantly accused by her tribe of "Being too white."

They actually said that to her once when I was standing there talking to her.

70 The though arises from something this juror said - though she didn't say it and I've never seen nor thought this before - but if Travon Martin was screaming for 45 seconds - WHY WAS HE SCREAMING?  What exactly was happening that would cause Travon to scream?  After all there were no injuries to Travon other than to his nuckles and the gunshot.  It makes no sense to think that Travon would be screaming for 45 seconds without any injuries to himself ever having arisen.

I think it makes them feel better, because they can claim guilt for him, while saying "but the system can't get every guilty person."

Which is bullcrap.

I dunno if Zimmerman is morally culpable or not, I've thought about it a long time and realized that it would take omnipotence to figure that out.

This isn't a clear cut case of someone dicing up babies and putting their feet in jars where moral culpability is damned easy to dole out.

GZ lost track of TM -- for minutes. TM would have been long gone if he really were just heading home with his Skittles. GZ was waiting to meet police, as arranged with the dispatcher.

TM then jumped GZ with no warning, as GZ was getting back to his car.

TM commenced to beat the shit out of GZ, to the point of endangering health (brain injury) and even life. Also, TM could use GZ's own gun on him.

So... what was a good Neighborhood Watch guy supposed to do? Never be caught making eye contact with anyone he's trying to watch, so he can report whereabouts to the police? Let himself be beat to shit, risking death, when jumped in the dark? Not be armed, so that he COULD be beat to shit, all alone, at night, in a neighborhood known to be crime-ridden?

Kudos for taking time to try to thinking critically (i.e., metacognition); that said, your piece is still full of unfounded assertions, opinion, and assumptions. You continue with the meme that 17 year old Trayvon was just out for a stroll in the rain to get Skittles and Watermelon tea... which no one seems to associate as two key ingredients in Purple Drank, a homemade street drug. Further, Trayvon had no right to assault Zimmerman first--at which point Zimmerman had every right to defend himself. Unfortunately for Trayvon, his own disproportionate response was met with a wholly appropriate response from someone who was physically overmatched, on the losing side of a vicious fight, and felt his life and safety were endangered. No one wants to seem to accept the fact that Trayvon was a troubled teenager who bought into the thug-life 100%. No one wants to seem to have Trayvon take any responsibility for his actions that night, and the actions that led up to him being in that part of Florida in the first place to live with his biological dad... an extended high school suspension for marijuana paraphernalia coming on the heels of two other suspensions. Until society demands more of these kids, their parents, and hold community agitators accountable for fostering bigotry of low expectations, this urban rot will continue and the black teenage body count will continue rising in places like Baltimore, Philly, Chicago, DC, NYC, LA, etc. etc. etc.

Dispatchers are getting multiple calls from residents. Something obviously is happening. The cops rush to the scene and Super Kung Fu is still on top of Zimmerman (skull in undeterminate condition). What is going to happen? Assuming St. Trayvon of the Fields doesn't decide to take on the pigs? What is going to happen? What happens if he doesn't stop the beating? What do the cops do?

614 I was open minded as I could be, and knew little about the details until the trial. Watched MOST of it. The prosecutors might have made a mistake by playing the tapes over and over - I heard the screams as GZ because I had heard both the screams and his talking voice so much over a few weeks. Then, when I heard TM's voice (on the 7/11 tape on YouTube with him answering the phone), then his male relatives, with their deep voices, it seemed no comparison between them and GZ. It seemed so obvious it was GZ screaming.

Oh Oh.  She may have just stepped in it, and provided a basis for the state to appeal the verdict*.  The judge had ordered that statement, and instructed the jury to disregard it.  Clearly, this juror disobeyed the judges orders.
