— Open Blogger This is a short fashion ONT. Monday ONTs are for the chicks, I always say.
Which I don't say at all, ever, and instead is simply my way of announcing that the Maetenloch is off doing "trade-shoe, er, show" stuff, and has foisted off this weeks ONT duties onto a motely crew of ruffians, ne'er do wells, butt-pickers, hump-backed northeastern slackjaws, and me.
What sets me apart you ask?
It's the clothes of course. The clothes make the man. And what could be more manly than my current ensemble. (That's franch for totally buff.)
I'm sporting a fashionable layered look: Torn Bruce Lee tshirt, VaTech sweatshirt, and a hoodie. Long underwear, and pajama bottoms, of course. And fluffy slippers.
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.
Hate me because something along those lines is what I've been working in every day for the past few months. Telecommuting for the win! Of course I'm wearing all that because I'm a cheap bastard, and refuse to turn the heat up over 60 most days.
Alas, the dream withers next week, as I start hitting the road damn near full-time for work. Then I have to dress nicely enough for the various JW Marriott or Renaissance concierge lounges. That means ditching Bruce Lee, and sporting the kind of threads that reflects the sort of goal-setter and dream achiever that tells people "Here is a man that's going places..."

"...places I really don't want to soil my Berluti Wingtips in."
Now before you go thinking I'm some sort of smug 1 percenter, let me introduce you to my bank and retirement accounts:

First National Bank of Boned
Thanks to the comprehensive genius of Obamanomics, I too am a 99 percenter. I just happen to still be employed, which makes me an approximately 80 percenter. Using the Obamanomical method(TM), that makes me a 179 percenter in total, and should qualify me as a dependent of the state. Right?
Speaking of mathematical fallacies, anyone else suspect that the average gun-grabber's analytical process looks suspiciously like this?

Where 'x' equals "It's the EBR's, Der!"
The world turns though. The moron horde will abide.

"Horde, Abiding."
What's on your backs & minds, my lovelies?
This ONT brought to you by the A.T.C. Stompy Boot Collection.

Finally.
Getting on this ONT was, well, as the French say: "comme un suppositoire, mais juste un peu plus fort"

Everything's heard something bad about Brand X's wares on the intertubes. Taurus more than others, but that seems to be a remnant of the 90's as much as anything. If you can't afford a Smith, step down to a Ruger. Can't afford a Ruger? Taurus is there for you. All three have fantastic customer service, and I'm certain you're smart enough to never trust a gun you hadn't put through it's paces first, so you should be fine. Every gun breaks eventually, so don't put too much stock in internet experts - including me. Get some trigger time.

Taurus quality is a lot like Hi-Point you hear a lot of things and there are some cases of having to use their warranty but their quality is as good as Ruger's was a few years back.
Ruger's improved a bunch.

With ANY weapon you choose to be your own,
it comes down to range time...(get it while you still can) knowing the functionality, feel, and how to properly site your target, this is key to your own choice in weapons...whatever make, model, or caliber, it comes down to being comfortable with your own choice and becoming proficent....

Yeah, it's a tough sell period. The full-custom (e.g. Ed Brown, Wilson, Nighthawk) 1911 market is fine, as the kind of people who can afford those are generally handling the Oconomy decently, and supply is low. The low-end (e.g. RIA and other Filipino marks) is also doing well. The middle is what isn't moving right now, but I'm not worried. I only put it up for sale because the last 10 or so range trips it didn't make the cut. It's no museum piece, so hopefully I can put it in the hands of somebody who will use it like it was intended to be used.

I've never been able to take JD Power seriously since the Thousand Oaks Auto Mall ran ads talking about JD Power declaring them the most wonderfulest auto mall ever.
They left out the part about JD Power's HQ being a few minutes away from the TO Auto Mall. Apparently, 'is within walking distance' counted for more points in the judging than any other factor.

No Mero seriously I get what you're saying and agree but Hi-Point for better or worse is a good GUN their mags leave something to be desired but can be made to work.
You "hear/read" a lot of hype as you've said and we've gone over.
I've carried a Taurus .38 it was a good weapon BUT it was also the 90s.
Buy one, take your chances from what I hear their Customer Service is good.

About two weeks ago I mentioned how when I took the dog at our office for a walk
Well, last week I got some bad news. Although the landlord had given us permission to keep the dog in our unit, because other tenants had people begin bringing their dogs to work too the landlord decided to ban the doggies.
I guess some weren't being responsible about their dogs (I'd seen poo around that wasn't our dog's for example) so someone spoiled it for everyone else. And to rub salt in the wound on the day I discovered the dog ban I had seen two other dogs in two different industrial/business complexes' units while walking to work.
BUT on Saturday when I went into the office the dog was there after a week of not having seen him and a week of me thinking that I'd probably never see him again! I don't know if it was done with permission or if the dog's owner figured the one day would be okay because most of the units aren't working on the weekend but I at least got to see my buddy again.
I didn't take him out for a mouse-hunting walk because I didn't know his "official" status there although maybe I'll chance it next Saturday if we're both in. He was heartbroken that I wouldn't take him on a walk that he definitely wanted me to take him on because he licked my face (yech! doggie breath) and then began miming him digging in the grass for mice and mimed biting one to let me know, "Hey, don't you remember 11 days ago? When I almost got those two mice? Let's go out again, buddy! I'm sure I can get them this time!" and "You do know I want to go out, don't you? Your momma didn't raise no dummy, I hope."
So it looks like I'll at least get to see him on Saturdays; and I figure that I'll even be able to start walking him again in the near future so we'll both share a bit of fun while at work.

Same here - they seem to work well. What the owners can't seem to explain is "what's it for?", other than having it to have it, which is a valid reason if they'd just admit it. I've had a couple say it's for snakes, but a) it's against the law to kill snakes here, and b) they own shovels and golf clubs, so go figure. If it's under four feet long, play the 4-iron with a heel-fade just behind the neck.

The US military does. If they field something, and it stays in inventory for a few years, the civilian model is probably gonna go bang with predictability.
After the initial slide failures, the 92F became a pretty reliable sidearm. I've put maybe 7k rounds through one and never had a failure to fire or extraction/feed problem. I shot a wide variety of stuff too light 90gr and heavy 148gr rounds, super "hot" +P+ submachine gun ammo, every hollow point available, and it ate everything without complaint.

Survey: Majority of US citizens want search engines to block pirated content
This week, a new survey of US citizens, with support from Google, showed that 53 percent of them would like to see access to those kinds of sites blocked from search engine results. The survey comes from the American Assembly, based at Columbia University, and is based on telephone interviews with over 2,000 US people in August 2011.

well the spread has a different damage and accuracy window....
plus if you use the custom loads they are experimenting with you can get profound performance from .410 slugs.
I got these specs off the Winchester website. I compared a .410 bore, 1/4 oz slug and a .45 Colt lead flatnose bullet 250 grains.
.410 - 1800 feet per minute, 788 foot pounds (at muzzle)
.45 - 750 fpm, 312 Ft pounds (at muzzle)
It looks like the .410 has more than twice the power (ft pounds) than the .45, and it flies over twice as fast. There is a lot more gunpowder in a shotgun shell.
Happy hunting! Source(s): www.winchester.com
so for a carjacking the .410 is literally BOOM that would be the ONLY window the .410 shell is not dumping footpounds of force faster than the .45
You get to 50 yds the crossover happens but in the Judge the 50 yards thing is a prayer....
now a Circuit Judge Carbine....

Spread so aim doesn't have to be as accurate to get attention/bleeding. That is the only benefit between a bullet and a shotshell. And since you can load them alternating in the chambers slowing them down with shot and taking them out with a bullet is a good strategy for the surprise situation you would use it in.

There might be, but none I've ever seen here in mid-TN. The winters get cold enough that we don't get the crazy big spiders and other assorted nasties like areas closer to the gulf. In high school I worked at a grocery store and was unboxing a gaylord of melons when the biggest spider I've ever seen *jumped* (yes, really) out of the box and ran off. Never did catch it, but it had an abdomen the size of a walnut and was probably 8" end to end. Furry, too. Scared the piss out of us.

Ammo for the Nagants is not a problem much 7.62*54 is fairly plentiful and if you reload has a nice amount of room for custom recipes.
The 8mm Mauser is drying up but the same thing reloading, reloading, reloading....
I do like my Gibbs "hungle carbine" made from the Ishy 2a in 7.62*51mm just don't get too crazy on hotloading the .308 to Win Mag specs

I have, for now, the "Touch Stone" feel with my G-23 with Corbon loads, this is what I mean, the weapon must be "THE" primary inclusion of your mental intent when it is time to defend yourself again'st a lethal threat...unless you do range time and know what an OODA LOOP is and practice to respond in such a manner...ALL THE TIME....maybe you should consider building a "Safe Room" and just hunker down until the local PD can get to ya......if they get to you....

One of the nicest wheel guns I ever shot is the Ruger Single Six my Dad owned--and I inherited. Put brick after brick of .22 through it with never a hitch.
Life's been good on the gun front, found my M-14 last year and just bought a Garand from a buddy of the man I bought the 14 from. So couple those with the 1911 plus the Ithaca and the simple but effective arsenal is complete.

He has been contacted by social services and will eventually be getting with specialists. The doctor said it would have been better if he had aids. I guess he said it because they have better treatment for that. Also because the doctor must have the bedside manner of Gregory House.

I bailed out of an attempt to induct me into a cult tonight. The cult is called Landmark Forum or Landmark Education, and is descended from est, the Erhard Seminars Training. The induction attempt was mediated by a friend of mine who shall remain nameless. He has attended several Landmark events, praises the program to the skies, and probably does not realize even now that he has begun to exhibit classic cult-follower symptoms (albeit so far only in a quite a mild form – trying as hard as he did to to recruit me is the main one so far).
“But Eric. How did you know it was a cult?”"

Yeah, that's pretty far down the rabbit hole. Coverups happen all the time, so F&F doesn't actually stun me.
But when was the last time any military person fired on a Civie under orders? Even the democrats wouldn't hesistate to haul the SCOAMF's ass in front of an impeachment hearing on that one and he knows it. (There's a difference between subtle erosion of our freedoms and all out war. The left knows they'd lose and all out war.)

No trouble picking it up and shooting it. I actually find it easier to shoot accurately than smaller 45s.
However, it's not something to carry around every day. It would pull your pants down and if you turn around too fast, you'll probably knock out any children or dogs in your vicinity.
It has never given me any trouble, but all the negative talk out there and my unwillingness to break it open for total cleaning (breaking it open requires a hammer), I don't trust the damn thing entirely. Hi-Point says it is unnecessary to disassemble... but still.
I still keep it around, though. It has been good enough to me that the extra gun laying around is worth more than the $50 I'd get selling it. Plus, I hear great things about their customer service.

Ogabe getting THAT brazen is over the top, but then again so was our Ambassador getting a Goddamned Busy Signal while O was whacking off in the situation room to the feed.

Also @Sven,
Yeah what Merovign said. Also why ask your military to do it, there are plenty of civilian agencies that you could use to more effectively attack the population anyway. (See: you're example of Waco.)
I didn't say he wouldn't do anything contra-populace, just that he wouldn't use the military to do it. (That doesn't exclude, ATF, national gaurd, DEA, whatever, these aren't subject to quite the same rules.)

Jennifer Love Hewitt is upping the sexy ante on her Lifetime show "The Client List."
The actress is taping some scenes for Season 2 in the buff, and the network is then going back to blur out the naughty parts, the National Enquirer reports.
1. No one like a tease
2. She's going to be one of those actress who waits until she's in her 50s to finally show, at which point no one will care.

I am 85% in agreement with Mero, basically I think most of Ogabe's fuck ups are a combination of hubris and ineptitude.
That would be pure hubris, and I would hope it would already have leaked.
Anyway I am just saying the media is so over the top that the entire goddamned pond is muddy.
I do think you, Mero and I would be in for a shock at how far the left will go to mainstream his overreaches and fuck ups though.
I am constantly in awe.

The american people are as guilty of this as the media.
There is no outcry, not interest in what's going on. How many people do you know that realize we're still involved in a "kinetic action" in Libya? (Benghazi aside, which was bad enough, if memory serves we're still technically engaged there aren't we?)

Survey: Majority of US citizens want search engines to block pirated content
Bullshit
Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at January 21, 2013 11:01 PM (kdS6q)
A majority of US citizens are idiots who believe we have to fix every problem.
I hate piracy. I reguarly defend some notion of copyright to my friends (although I don't like what disney has done to current copyright). Yet I cannot ignore the free speech implications to attempting to moderate the internet at the search engine (or even worse DNS) level.
Full stop, not gonna happen. Sorry. (Well not entirely. I might see various providers decidign to impliment such things, only because the market would punish overreach. Well the market and hackers making proxies the new fun thing.)

Clearly, war is not the answer, unless the question is "What is the end result of a ruling power's attempts to destroy those it rules that are not in favor of the power or otherwise stand between it and its goals?". I'll admit that calling what has been done on behalf of the powers cited above "war" is too complimentary, when it is much more akin to murder.

Have you ever used SMP842? I've read threads where 5.56 and 7.62 reloaders are just gaga over it, but gun / reloading threads are almost always super positive or ultra negative, so grain of salt.

The other scary thing is that now the younger generation can't even print, forget cursive. A friend showed me something from a 10 year old nephew that was barely legible. And the same happened last month when I bought a gift certificate at a yarn shop. The college-ish aged dude's printing was like a five year olds.

Spelling is a byproduct of reading, though if you're reading sources that keep their product under three syllables so their readers can understand it, e.g. Buzzfeed, Slate, et al., you're unlikely to see words enough to know how to spell.
Writing is something you have to do every day. I had wonderful penmanship in 1996 when writing was required. Then came the keyboard and the college and the job, and there went the writing. It's sad, really - I've now landed in a job where I have to write something in ink a few times a day, and have to slow down and make sure my fingers make the letters. The same fingers that can tear down and rebuild anything in front of them, or run a guitar like a house afire struggle to make a squiggle in place of a "g" or a "q", and other letters are just suggested. The times, they are a-changing.

Funny thing is I got in the habit of pronouncing Mississippi - Miss-hippy. Can't remember why. I think it was based on how some announcer dude pronounced Mississippi State. Now my husband does it, too. It's just a matter of time before we're spelling it that way.

It only gets worse.
This afternoon, I was talking to my 73-(?)-year-old Croatian neighbor about the demise of bookstores. First the big-box stores (Borders, Barnes & Noble) came in and crushed the independents, then Borders went foom, now online (Kindle and Nook) is crushing the big box.
Problem is, we've already seen situations where the online version just vanished (IIRC, "Animal Farm" on Kindle.....someone has a heckuva sense of humor), or where a downloaded version said XXX last Thursday....but says YYY today. A book on my shelves won't do that.
People are moving away from printed materials into ebooks or internet lookups....but what was there last week might not exist at all today. What better example of Orwell's "memory hole" could you desire?

But will it stay the same, or be altered by the "Year Zero" crowd into meaning the opposite of what it originally stood for? If "Anthem" is changed to a paean to conformity, having it on your Kindle would be worse than useless.

Dave,
I give only a lament with NO TEARS, I stand like a General upon the hill, watching his army retreat in defeat from battle, already plotting the NEXT battle. I will give no comfort to this minor victory, though to the weak amoung us the day is dark. Only those that know defeat, will rise to victory because of that defeat. Because they wish not ever to visit the defeat again.
And so they are that more powerful....and they are the VICTORS! and history teaches us this much....We will never be slaves again...to ANY man
AMERICA!

Q: How many members of a certain demographic group does it take to perform a specified task?
A: A finite number: One to perform the the task and the remainder to act in a manner matching a stereotype of the group in question.

I kind-of like it.
But, then, when I was 15-years-old and on a train to Munich, I had asked about politically incorrect jokes. Another passenger, whose native tongue was German, was passing the time with me by mangling each other's language....and I'd asked about who was the default slow, dim-witted foil for jokes. He said "Silesians". So we spent some time telling each other jokes where I translated then-popular US "Polack" jokes to "Silesian" ones.
Fact is, the entire world has some other region that is reputed to be dimwits -- that this same group are held to be abnormally cunning and clever by some other group is just the way things go. A couple of years ago, in Saint Petersburg, I was amused to find that EVERY SINGLE EPISODE of Hee-Haw could be translated directly to Russian by substituting Ukrainians for rednecks, hillbillies, or hicks. You could find two guys going "pffft, she was gone" with Ukrainian accents, and just dub-over the visuals -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpNJuS3b0So

We're in decline for only so long as we're willing to say we are. If our children were taught that we came for kicking ass and chewing bubblegum, and only lefty idiots had any remaining gum, our nation would be as potent and deadly as it was in 1945, 1918, 1865, 1812, or any other time it mattered. It's amusing to find the result of Gramsci's "March through the institutions" is widespread homeschooling. It's almost like people want their own kids to be winners or something....

True. This isn't a "drop the frog into boiling water" situation, like that was.
This is, of course, the continuing increase in the temperature. The frog is drowsy - happy even - without any idea of what comes next.
There's nothing wrong with intelligent Americans recognizing that the communists have won, and being saddened by it. There's nothing wrong with mourning the death of your country.
We owe about $90 Trillion, when you toss Social Security and other unbonded debt onto the pile. We make 1/6 of that a year, gross, and the communists already take a quarter of THAT annual income, borrowing what they can't yet confiscate.
We are a dead man walking. Anyone who doesn't realize that is kidding themselves.
So, sure, why not mourn?
