— Pixy Misa By the time you read this, 'Rons & 'Ettes, I'll be knee-deep in drunkards and barflies down at the ol' salt mine. It's currently just before the ungodly hour of 10:00 AM -- a time not generally recognized in AoS culture and lifestyle. But, being the selfless team player/consummate brown-noser that I am, I thought I'd go ahead and throw something together for you people to look at before I start my workweek.
Now, last night's ONT had its high and low points. By nearly all accounts, the video of the chick in the bikini riding in a Lamborghini was well received. However, the goat balls didn't go over quite as well. I don't know why. I've never tried them, but some folks say they're delicious. I suppose I may have trod upon the delicate sensibilities of a few goat-fanciers among the horde. So, to that end, here's something to make up for it.
I don't have a whole lot of experience with goats aside from watching videos of the ones that "faint" when you startle them. Though, I understand even run-of-the-mill domesticated goats can be entertaining. But, when it comes to animal-related entertainment, the high drama of African wildlife documentaries is tough to beat. The raw, gut-level emotion pulls me in every time.
That's not to say there isn't plenty of enjoyment to be had with the less exotic creatures who inhabit our daily lives. After all, if we didn't derive some degree of pleasure from having them in our midst, mankind never would have domesticated them in the first place. And, while the family dog may not provide the moments of high drama one gets from watching a big cat stalk its prey, our lives are immensely richer for their presence.
You see, family pets offer huge benefits to their owners and ask very little in return. All they really want is a warm, dry place to sleep, something to eat, the occasional treat, and a little bit of familial attention now and then. They're far more low-maintenance than any of the humans you have in your life. After all, what person do you know who would be elated upon being presented with a gift so seemingly insignificant as a sock?
Humans, on the other hand, are terribly complicated creatures. And, as such, they bring complications with them when they enter your life. With pets, you pretty much have the same dog throughout its life with you. There may be changes in their energy level, weight, mobility, etc. as they age, but you're not going to wake up one day and discover that your dog isn't the same dog it was when you first got him. (Well, unless he gets the hydrophobie.)
People, however, you just never truly know:
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The man who was the voice of Charlie Brown in several "Peanuts" television shows was charged Wednesday with stalking and threatening his former girlfriend and a plastic surgeon who gave her a breast enhancement that he paid for before the relationship ended.Peter Robbins pleaded not guilty Wednesday in San Diego Superior Court to two counts of stalking and 10 counts of making criminal threats.
Attempts to contact fellow guest-blogger CBD have been unsuccessful.
So, there's your Friday night ONT for January 25, 2013. I hope you enjoy it while I'm working a hole in the floor attending to the needs of my thirsty patrons this evening. If you would like to show your appreciation for all the time and effort I put into creating this post for your benefit, pay it forward by tipping your bartender generously.
Tonight's ONT brought to you by impoverished bartenders.

She was in her late 40s-early 50s and he slurred, "she died in her sleep, could have been her heart, who knows."
I'm beyond words. Husband is out with a friend who is moving back north next week.
Dammit.

Call me old-fashioned, but I think the Republicans did pretty well both electorally and historically back in 1980 when they nominated an unapologetic, rock-ribbed conservative. Results since then with establishment Republicans have been rather checkered.

Animal husbandry. my history.
next door neighbor works at chicken egg house. offers me chickens. i put up fence. makeshift electrified. procure chicen feed. chickens lay eggs. collect eggs. see that egg production is diminished. see chicken hulls laying about. set up at night in 12-foot step ladder and lay await. shoot 5 'coons and one really 'narly skunk. chicken hulls persist. shoot a skunk inside building. nearly go blind from skunk chemical inhalation in close quarters. sneek back inside building days later. see barn owl eating chicken.
decide barn owl deserves chicken more than me. surrender.
give remaining flock back to neighbor . make cornbread from chicken feed. buy eggs from wife's best friend.
go deer hunting instead.

There are more high speed chases in California. Why? Because of the weather and the street layout and also the fact that every damn tv station and radio station has a helicopter, usually already in the air for weather or traffic, and will follow the chase.
Because it gets on TV, it gets copied, mimicked, it become part of the "cultural" zeitgeist and when folks get into a certain mindset they say, "fuck yeah, that's what I'll do. Plus I'll be on TV"
Same psychology (if that's the right word) for shooters.
These people know they're never going to be famous otherwise, they'll never be remembered or looked up to so a chase or a TV headline is the best they'll ever do.
It's fucking pitiful.
I guarantee that if they stopped making such a big deal out of these sick bastards (and stopped the Gun Free Zone nonsense) the number of incidents would decline.

23 years ago I went through 28 hours hard labor (and refused the epidural) until the boy's heart rate dropped severely, and I was told we were going to lose him. I'll never forget the needle going into my spine, and my crazy f-i-l standing outside the door telling my husband, "You have no business in there!"
My epi only worked on the left side of my body. I totally felt my belly being sliced open on my right side. They knocked my out.
I remember asked the fucking nurses if I could see and hold my son, and one "jokingly" said, "Oh, he's ugly, you don't want to see him." Not cool.
I held him in my arms, and his bright eyes looked into mine, and I fell head over heals in love.

It was above a little high-end grocery store in a detached two-story building with a very small parking area next to it. Ring any bells? I tried to find it on Google maps but I'm sure it's long gone.

I've not zeroed a scope before, being a handgun and shotgun guy, so I'm sure others here can better explain this.
I dropped the lower on my new rifle, remove one pin and then the bolt (not hard at all. see youtube) and bore-sighted it to the new scope at 75' in my basement (wide house). I'm hoping this will make it easier when I get to the range to get it dialed in.

Restricting the ammo is the last move of these fucks I think. Except perhaps for 7.62.
Mags is the most important acquisition as of now.
We can only hope that the Supreme Court steps in in Heller II or some other challenge, such as the Cook County challenge, on these stupid AWB bills.
Reasoning of Heller leaves little doubt. Except that two Repub. appointees in Heller II in the DC Circuit fucked up big time and upheld the stupid AWB of D.C.
I cannot understand it. Judge Kavanaugh's dissent is very very persuasive and anyone with a fucking brain would agree.
Heller II represents a fucking lightning bolt to the fascists. It could potentially, if subjected to Supreme Court review and decided the right way, knock out the fucking ban on EBRs, knock out the 10 round mag restriction that psychos and criminals and anyone with a fucking 3D printer can ignore, and strike down a requirement to register every weapon.
If we can do that, then the Second Amendment is preserved for all time. God willing, we shall get such a ruling as it is absolutely the right ruling based on the relevant Sup. Ct. precedent.

The range I belong to has 100 yard bays. I can set my target at a minimum of 50 yards, out to 100 yards.
My once perfect vision has turned to crap, so I'll start with 50 yds, and hopefully dial in at 100. Right now I am using an "economical" 1-4x24 scope, and I probably can't see much beyond 100 yds anyway. I may decide to go with some stronger glass later, but for now, I just want something better for me than iron sights.

I've considered this in the past. My opinion is to not bother with a .22 conversion kit and just spend the bucks on a decent .22 rifle--like a Ruger 10/22. Two fully functioning rifles are better than 1.5.

In the grand old days the wealthy citizens would get an Opera House built and named after themselves. This happened in many up and coming towns. My wife's Great Great something made a name and a good deal of money for himself making wagon weals for the westward expansion and industry, according to Rohs (pronounced Ross) family lore. So they built the Rohs Opera House in Cythiana, Ky. The Opera House has been reopened. While looking at their website I found out my wife is a shirt sleeve relative, via the afore mentioned Great Greats, of an actor named Chris O'donnel. He played Robin in one of the Batman movies and has done some other work. It's supposed to have ghosts, bullshit. So we will be taking the family down this fall to get ripped off on a BS tour.

I think this is why I learned to play banjo. The banjo is a "happy" instrument. You'll never meet a "dark banjo picker". Maybe "dumb, but not "Dark".

When I went through Air Force Basic in 1980, they had those kits in the M-16s we used to qualify. We couldn't fire in auto and even in semi they kept jamming. I believe they got rid of them later because every time I requalified for the next 18 years they had 556.

Go to Walmart and get the cheapest computer there. Or else if you know of any local computer stores in your area they might have used/refurbished computers you could buy from them, and it would likely just be a tower. Might be able to get it cheaper than a new bargain based computer.

A bit of random Boehner related news:
As part of a romantic comedy sketch acted out on a recent Korean variety show, popular TV personality Gili Kim embraced beautiful Jimin Kim and lifted her up in the air. From there, tragically, physiological instincts took over, leaving poor Gili with no way of concealing his excitement. The images were soon shared thousands of times via Twitter and Korean Internet bulletin boards, prompting the star to speak out and admit that he may have become lost in the moment.
“This was a misunderstanding,” Gili is reported to have said in regard to his spontaneous trouser protrusion. “My emotions took over and I wasn’t able to maintain control.”

I know that when jamming with new bands, new songs...I can look over to the bass player and see where he's fretting and know what chords to hit .. but with alternate tuning ...yikes .. ?

What does she do with the machine now? If it lacks USB ports it has to date to 1996 or earlier. Anything you get her, no matter how cheap, is going to be a massive upgrade.
Do you have any aging machines of your own? Perhaps you should give yourself an upgrade and let her have the old, but much newer than what she has, machine after a bit of refurbishment.
Look at places that sell refurb PCs. You can get a Core 2 Duo business desktop for under $200 these days. That is without a monitor but you can get a pretty decent 20" LCD for under $100 new these days.

Actually, that is dual core. The Pentium brand is now used for the bargain basement where they once applied the Celeron brand. (Although Celeron still turns up for added confusion to represent a somewhat lesser product.) A currently shipping machine with a Pentium is actually a fairly recent core architecture with big features unavailable, like hyperthreading and turbo modes. The most recent Pentium branded processor is a cut down version of the Ivy Bridge Core i3
So, a Pentium system is inferior but chances are your Mom won't know the different and having a reasonably up to date system in her home will make things easier for YOU.

I wanna give beef tongue a shot.
Anyone have a simple easy to do recipe that doesn't suck?
Posted by: Robert at January 25, 2013 11:30 PM (LUnTP)
Here's one. Wash the tongue and place in a dutch oven. Add a peeled, whole onion with a half dozen cloves stuck in it, a teaspoon of whole peppercorns, and a carrot. Cover with water, add a couple of glugs of cider vinegar. Cover, bring to a boil, and then turn down to a very low simmer for 3 hours.
Remove from water, let set for 10 minutes, then peel the outer skin from the tongue. Slice thinly crosswise and serve either with a brown gravy or with a good, strong German mustard. Some people like a horseradish sauce with it.
Moving from the tasty to the serious, mention was made of the idea of using 3D printers to make AR mags. It has been done, and they work. Forbes magazine had an article on it that included a link to the designers, and they have the program available for download. It strikes me that in the difficult times ahead that having copies of that program circulating on thumbdrives might be a good thing. 3D printers used to cost $50K. They are down to $1-3K.

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at January 26, 2013 01:36 AM (bxiXv)
For what it's worth, the Toyota/Lexus bad transmission meme is directly due to Toyota's stupid, stupid recommendation that ATF changes are unnecessary for the life of the vehicle--unless one is a frequent tower. I've ignored their advice and change my ATF ever 30k miles.
Also, I bought two Raspberry Pis months ago knowing that they'd go out of stock. I'd not recommend paying any more than list price from newark.com unless you're a hyper-nerd and absolutely must have tiny computing devices.

Fair enough. As my vehicle is getting long in the tooth, I've been wondering what I'd replace it with once that time comes.
I'm interested in a vehicle with the following qualities:
1) 4WD
2) has interior space to store enough shit to fill a studio apartment
3) comfortable during interstate drives
4) doesn't have horrific fuel consumption
Any ideas? Until turbo diesels become popular here, I'm pretty much doomed to the RX or Infiniti FX/Nissan whatevs.

Seeing as how Sandra Fluke is obviously of the alternative flamboyant bent you should be advised Subarus fit all those criteria. Driving a Subaru has also replaced toe tapping at certain rest stops as a secret ready to go code.
Posted by: Exasperated Expat at January 26, 2013 02:18 AM (gkfSV)
I LOLed here since Subaru was in my list of possible purchases (along with the Grand Cherokee) back then. Frankly, the Subaru models were nearly as expensive as the Lexus which was cushier (and had the cool in-dash GPS). These were important when a contract would dry up and you'd have to drive across country for the next one.

But the fun factor is a completely separate issue and the stick wins hands down. You actually have to participate in driving a stick whereas an auto trans is more plug n play.
Posted by: GnuBreed at January 25, 2013 10:37 PM (ccXZP)
The Subaru guys proudly maintain that Toyota's involvement was mostly in some engine technology, mainly direct-injection.
I don't live in a granola-munching Forester enclave, so I cut Subaru a lot of slack for its unambiguous full-throated chirping-turbo rally-car prowess.

btw, how did the art sale/showing go?
Oh, sorry, Gnubreed, I didn't mean to suggest that! It's just that with synthesizers, sadly, the range of options has become limited and those same patches get used over and over again. So a LOT of stuff sounds familiar. I kind of thought it sounded a bit like early Vangelis...
As for the art sale, well, I expect to sell nothing. The showing was good, lots of good questions which, amazingly, I could answer. But people have no money, not even a little bit, and if they have money, they buy ammo....which I will be doing too.
Guns and bullets are, in our time, more important than brushes and pigments.

Since Goat Balls (GBz from now on) are not a desirable meal, and the only quality the contain is Testosterone that would be destroyed by stomach acids - rendering the meal a negative nourishment, and a fail of flavor there must be a better way.
Doctors prescribe "Androgel", to be topically applied, as a way to increase Testosterone levels in people with low levels. So that no GBz go to waste, wouldn't it be prudent to puree/liquify the GBz into a paste, then mix in an antiseptic preservative and bio-safe solvent like 190 proof alcohol and then strain the goat meat slop to yield an essence of more purity, that could be applied topically also? I think Lionel Mandrake would approve...
