Our Black Hearts Cackle With Schadenglee
— LauraW

Piling on from BenK's post about the Oregon Health Insurance Exchange fail.

Remember those advertisements for Cover Oregon? So sweet, so full of naive idealism about the power of state projects to bring happiness to the land.

So charming and darling, so minty-fresh, so heart-strainingly earnest and optimistic.

And yet, artistic expression could not prevent corrupt failures of actual execution. Below the fold, Oregon hippies.

Below the fold, we rub it in. Look at this innocent, fresh-faced lad. He has no idea what is about to happen.

OH. OH. My little girlie schadenboner. This is exquisite. I need to take pictures of it for posterity.

HAAAA HA HA HAAAA!!!

I do believe I have soilt my pantaloons.

Open thread, darling Morons.

For its time, I believe that SS was pushed very hard to silence the "math says it's a bad idea" crowd.  However, most everybody thought FDR was wonderful, so it's difficult to judge.   I do not remember Medicare getting such a propaganda hype, most people had health insurance through their retirement plans, so it was pitched to cover those folks who did not.  Then Wham Shazzam, private retiree insurance started disappearing, especially through all the pension plan raiding done during the hostile takeover era, so people were just glad to have something, anything to pay their health care costs.

98 "The best care a State can give."

Well that tells you all need to know, both in its Orwellian phrasing and also the practical implications of its failed implementation.

$160 million is $41.04 per capita in OR. Assuming 50 percent of those people are in the labor force, that's $82.08 per employed person in the state.

I think the best way to illustrate this level of government failure would be if the State Police went around to every employee in Oregon, made them put $82 in a box, and then at the end of the week, the money were placed atop a bonfire, live on the local news.

Then, everyone could think about what they could have done with that $82 instead of throwing it away.

Right. It's insane. I'll gladly let a corporation make a profit off me if I get what I want in return. That's also because I understand the risks that corporations take in trying to make profits and I gladly transfer that risk to them and pay for it on the other end when the risk doesn't come to pass. If you don't understand the nature of risk, you will have difficulty understanding capitalism and the Left does not understand risk at all.

Which is why they always accuse the Right of being "for big corporations" (well, that, and the donations the Left gets from big corporations). It's Fen's Law- they THINK that any profit they make is hurting other people, simply by being profit. Yet they like making a profit. Therefore profit is evil and Republicans must be doing it. Sadly, even Marx understood that an economy with no profit built in doesn't work. Modern prog/commies seem to have regressed even from there.

Seventeen days for the JEF after a year of nothing but failure on his part, unless failure was actually success which I'm having a hard time figuring out.  Either way I can't think of a single person with a functioning cortex that thinks this is a good thing.  Maybe the Iranian Rodent will be shoving a medium sized pharmacy up his pansy ass to recharge his batteries for more golf and fundraisers.

293 Oregon is, and always has been a fascist little state. Back in the 90's I used to have to travel there for business quite a bit. I'm the kind of person who likes to talk to people to get an understanding of what the culture is like. I do this wherever I go in the world. Often I start by saying something like, "I'm from California," or "I'm from America", just to kind of help them understand why I might be asking some of the dumb questions I ask. So, here's what I saw in Oregon: On at least three occasions, I was told, in the same words, "We don't like your kind here." What "kind" were they talking about? CALIFORNIANS. The Oregonians saw no irony in the fact that they are a state of hippies following in the wordsteps of the Deep South. Oregon is a beautiful place, but look at those commercial spots. Filled with the same kind of white a-holes who people the South. Give them a little education and Hippie Ideology and they don't stop being bigots, they just change who they are bigoted against.

"You wouldn't actually expect them to live near the consequences of their choices, would you? I mean, all that "urban blight" may be a direct consequence of policies they support, but they don't want to live in it."

Same here in California.  Bay Area/Silicon Valley looks like FutureTopia.  Oakland looks like Oakland.  Same with LA and Diego.  The community organizers never live in the communities they organize.  If we could ship them to the NW, we could even fix the ghettos left behind, but instead they hog the scenic coast properties and leave the rest of us to live in Greater Mexico.

348 12 I've heard that Portlandia is actually quite an accurate representation of that state. Posted by: steevy at December 20, 2013 09:56 AM (zqvg6)

I watched the first ep, at the insistence of friends, and that was plenty for me. I refuse to believe that people actually go through the world thinking that is a normal lifestyle.

Is the Portland health care site pretty at least? There seems to be a trend that our betters in government are taking more time and effort to make these sites, ads and marketing campaigns shiny and lovely, but no time at all on the actual product, which is crap. Much like opening a gorgeously wrapped present Christmas day to find nothing inside. Apple is successful because the products are awesome, not because of the ads alone; the ads merely back up the product they sell. Were the product crap the ads would be useless. Idiots all.

Great point. Osama bin Laden was once quoted as saying that the Islamists didn't hate the Christian evangelists -- even respected them. It was the secular liberals they despised and wanted to see obliterated. The more the Left grovels and propitiates Muslim "sensibility" the more despised they are.

355 Today, the administration agreed with a group of senators, led by Mark Warner of Virginia, who argued that having your insurance plan canceled counted as "an unexpected natural or human-caused event." Number one city for Millenials to retire to? Louisville, Kentucky. Which is a close enough vicinity to explain to me that humblebrag Politico article by the dbag reporter that moved from DC back to KY, then wrote a loltastic but insufferable piece about it. 358 215 In their defense, I drove from NJ to Pittsburgh and back last Saturday during the snow, and the PA roads were perfect. I was really impressed.

Yeah, because they decided to fix all the damn roads the last time I had to go from NH to PA, and what should have been a 8-9 hour trip turned into 11.

I spent twenty years driving tractor trailers over the road and I swear that PA had the same section of road under construction for the entire 20 years. Talk about job security. There are probably guys that started their first day working on that stretch of road and retired working on that same stretch of highway.

362 In a not so funny result of ObamaCare: How Obamacare is Hurting My Family with Chronically Ill Kids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbHd5qTHktA You know that medical device tax? It's not just for hospitals but especially for people who get medical treatment at home. ObamaCare is not about getting insurance for those who can't afford it, or about getting free preventative health screenings for poor people. ObamaCare is about culling the population of sick people by pricing them out of existence. That is how ObamaCare intends to reduce the nation's medical costs.

This is not the state I left 20 years ago to join the military.  I come back and it's SF of the NW.  The rural areas (East side and outside the metro and Eugene) are still true oregonian libertarian and conservative.  But everything else is right out of Portlandia.  They spend millions on a website that doesn't work...and millions more to "design" an interstate bridge that nobody likes and won't improve traffic flow because it doesn't increase capacity...it only adds bike lanes and light rail.  At least WA was smart enough to say we're out on the Columbia Crossing plan...but the libtards in Salem are are still trying to get it done.

373 An insurance anecdote: Daughter has own Humana policy for $150/month, $5000 deductible. This is affordable for her. To be "ACA compliant" it goes to $357 to include maternity/mental health/ etc. She has ADHD and depression so she checked out if it might be worth it......... Fine print: Humana gives "mental health" its OWN 5000 deductible she has to draw from...so essentially the policy doubled with a 10,000 deductible. Thanks O-CARE! Now we will be helping her make up what she can't afford along with our own insurance increase.
