It's so absurd.

Â— Instead of sending suspected terrorists to Guantanamo Bay or secret CIA Â“blackÂ” sites for interrogation, the Obama administration is questioning terrorists for as long as it takes aboard US naval vessels.
And itÂ’s doing it in a way that preserves the governmentÂ’s ability to ultimately prosecute the suspects in civilian courts.
ThatÂ’s the pattern emerging with the recent capture of Abu Anas al-Libi, one of the FBIÂ’s most wanted terrorists, long-sought for his alleged role in the 1998 bombings of US embassies in Africa. He was captured in a raid Saturday and is being held aboard the USS San Antonio, an amphibious warship mainly used to transport troops.
Questioning suspected terrorists aboard US warships in international waters is President Barack ObamaÂ’s answer to the Bush administration detention policies that candidate Obama promised to end. The strategy also makes good on ObamaÂ’s pledge to prosecute terrorists in US civilian courts, which many Republicans have argued against. But it also raises questions about using Â“law of warÂ” powers to circumvent the safeguards of the US criminal justice system.

As of Monday, al-Libi had not been read his Miranda rights, which include the rights to remain silent and speak with an attorney. And it was unclear when al-Libi would be brought to the US to face charges.

If you read the article, which I frankly don't advise, it's pretty unclear how Serious You Guys This Is Better and Perfect!, when pretty much all the same things are being done.

Pretty much it's just Obama and his flacks insisting This Is Better Because Different Than Bush.

US Navy vessels are still controlled and under the Jurisdiction of the UCMJ, the Geneva Convention (as it is a treaty we signed and ratified), and US Federal Law.

There are only three ways I know of to keep a Prisoner on them... under US Law and the UCMJ, where they get rights.... under Geneva, where we cannot question them past a very predefined point... or under Piracy Law which are not applicable...

The Navy is NOT a Law Enforcement entity.... Hell, we used to have to carry a Coast Guard Detachment when they sent us out on Drug Ops.

Yep... indefinite detention, in legal limbo.... so much for the 'Navy, a Force for Good"...

123 I have to say, I was emotional watching him walk across the parking lot to the car on Friday. He exchanged a crisp salute with an officer, and then jumped in the back of the SUV and started throwing camo and boots everywhere. He changed into what he called his "Freedom Clothes."

I still remember how proud he was as a new Marine. He was so sick in boot camp, with strep throat, bronchitis, and pneumonia and was given one day of rest in his bunk.

He weighed 135 lbs. at graduation. Said his drill instructor was like, "Damn, son. I can't believe you."

He's been getting up every morning since we arrived home Friday night at 5:30 am, going to the fitness center for a workout, tending to the kittehs, taking out the trash, etc. Now he's looking for a job and checking into schools. Wants to get into logistics, since that's what he's handled (with letters of commendation) for the last four years.
