— Open Blogger My deepest apologies for the tardiness of this thread. With the holidays and some family issues in recent days, it had completely slipped my mind. So, lets start out with a fair approximation of what I feel like right about now.
As a bartender, I get to see quite a few bar tricks. Unfortunately, I can never remember them. But, in the event you have a better memory than I do -- and who doesn't -- here's a few you might want to use on your friends.
Of course, working in bars means you have to spend a great deal of time dealing with drunks. It's a lot like dealing with children, actually. Only, when they pass out in your bar, you have to kick them out of the place. When they pass out in your home, however, you can have a bit of fun with them. Drunk-shaming, they call it. And, since you do it with drunks in your home, why not do it with the children as well?
Of course, the fun with children in your household doesn't have to stop there. Sometimes, the best time to get them is when they least expect it: First thing in the morning, when they're groggy and incoherent. Here's a fun little prank that's sure to delight the whole family at their expense.
Well, that's all I got for tonight's ONT. Please accept my deepest apologies for the delay. I hope you guys -- and Ace and the cobs -- can find it within yourselves to forgive me.

Here everyone share in my overwhelming hate.
On Monday night my older sister texted me while at work. My younger sister's husband moved out on her. He's been cheating on her for a few months with a girl from work. She's known for a few months, and was hoping that things would work out. They have 2 kids together. I could write pages of the stupid shit he has done in the time we have known him, especially recently, like wrecking her car just a few ago (while probably high), after he had let the insurance drop on it, and lying that it wasn't actually his fault that the insurance payments weren't made. This worthless bottom feeding dicklicker is damn lucky I have no desire to see the inside of a jail cell, unlike his mudsucking ass has seen.

Hell I believe that most divorce/custody law is set up to screw the guy over. And that there are plenty of women out there that will just that. I can think of a guy at work that has that situation where his ex does everything she can to keep his kid away from him. And with that being said my can't happen soon enough ex brother in law to be is one of the reasons for that. Take him for everything you can get, which probably won't be much.

My politically mixed family avoids political conversations at family gatherings - because we know from experience things get awful pretty quickly if we do talk politics. But my conservative BIL, who had a few drinks in him, couldn't resist taking a swipe at Obamacare yesterday. The libs froze and stared at their plates. Clearly, they didn't want to take the administrations advice and lecture their Republican relatives how swell Barrycare really is. My sister, who is also conversative, rescued the libs by changing the subject immediately.
I have to admit - I got a little warm glow looking at the expressions on the libs faces. It was like they had farted in church and were hoping nobody would realize it was them.

I suspect I'll spend more time on Frenchmen St. than any other place. Based on what I've been reading, something about it really appeals to me. My main objective will be photography while I'm there, and there's something about musicians that make them fascinating subjects to me -- I guess the fact that I've always wished I had that kind of talent. I play a little myself, but I have the utmost respect for people who have the kind of ability to play for the public in a city like New Orleans, where music is so deeply ingrained in the culture. You cannot be a slouch and play on the streets of that town.

And thanks for the ONT forbearance. I just hate to let Ace and the cobs down on something like that. For all the self-deprecation that goes on here, this place is the proverbial "kind of a big deal" among the online right, and it didn't get that way by having half-assed, unreliable contributors. So, I was pretty mortified when I realized what I'd done.
@ 120 [NCwoof] -- I certainly plan on asking around about the good hole-in-the-wall kind of places. Every town I've ever been in has them -- the little mom-and-pop restaurants with daily plate specials. I won't be flying down, though, so I can't ask the cabbie along the way. I'm driving down with a friend of mine who's going down there on business, helping to split the drive-time up for him.
But, I'm sure I'll stop in a few places along the way and will start asking for recommendations as I get closer to New Orleans.

I'm working on it, but I keep running into The Fire-Drill of the Day. Next week's is erecting our foldable greenhouses and stuffing everyone inside (we have orchids, orchid-cactus, gingers, and other miscellany that technically are not supposed to grow in our climate...but do nicely if you slap 'em under cover for three months from the end of November -- in fact, the biggest problem is not leaving 'em sealed up when things get warmer lest they cook).

As for the damage, the only real sheet metal damage I can see is right around the gas tank lid. The rest seems to be swapped paint and the broken tail light lens. The biggest damage of all is the simple inconvenience and timing of it [weekend/holiday]. I can't drive it like that, and I work at a bar -- so, whenever I go in or leave, there's a strong likelihood I'm going to pass a cop and get pulled over. And I don't have another vehicle to drive in the interim, which means I'm going to have to borrow one, or bum a ride.
And, yeah -- I do need the little getaway. I'm sure I'll be better prepared to deal with it all when I get back.

DDR check craigslist for a local body guy working out of his home/garage.
You might even get lucky and find a Tranny Mechanic that will do it in trade for a Cleveland Steamer or some of your wives old clothes?

Well, that is thoroughly retarded.
I've got to say, the best argument that those folks are out of their freakin' minds is http://www.guns.com/2012/12/12/shovel-ak/ - I mean, it's 1940's technology, and was purposely designed to be manufactured by conscripts using the tools available then.
Used to be, Americans understood that any reasonably intelligent person with rudimentary technical skills could construct a usable firearm using resources found just about anywhere ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxQqJbW-ohw ) -- but the Progs have dumbed-down the culture to where EBRs are just fucking magic.
In the meantime, I continue to press forward on my quest to make awesome aluminum paperweights.

@ 188 [andycanuck] -- Wonder who we can get to flounce up and down the stairs like Kelly?
@ 189 [Biff Boffo] -- I bet that was a hell of a show. I never got to see any of the thrash bands in their heyday. Closes I got was Metallica on the "...And Justice for All" tour, which was pretty kickass. I did get to see quite a few of the NWOBHM acts, though -- Maiden, Priest, Saxon, et. al. I feel like I grew up in a good era for metalheads, for sure.

I switched over to playing thrash/speed metal when bands like iron maiden and priest started getting stale. Priest was getting weird with the teeny bopper anthems (parental guidance for example), and maiden was starting to run out of ideas and was getting repetitious. In general there wasn't as much traditional metal being done and shit was going towards the shitty hairband stuff. The thrash and speedmetal was a reaction to the frigging hairband shit, and it had raw power. It was the only place the musicians on the heavier side of things could go.

I really hate when people say this but, Reign changed my life. My musical life, anyway. It was exactly what I was looking for at the time. Most people hear noise and shouting, I hear a symphony. And they sound just as good live as they do in the recordings.

I started experiencing what you're talking about when Maiden released Seventh Son... and stopped listening to Priest completely at Turbo. I did fall for some of the hair metal crap for a while, if only because that was the heaviest thing going at the time, and the girls seemed to like it. But, that didn't last too long before I got sick of it.
I got into Alice in Chains and Soundgarden a bit in the post-metal years, but that's as far into the whole Seattle scene as I could really get. Nirvana and Pearl Jam had some songs I liked, but all the navel gazing and angst just didn't do it for me. (I like Foo Fighters a LOT more than I ever liked Nirvana, BTW.)
Buckcherry got my hopes up for a few minutes, but seemed to disappear as quickly as they arrived. Since then, I can't really think of a hard rock/heavy metal act that strikes me as inspiring at all. The whole nu metal scene really turned me off everything for a long time, and if I ever hear another Korn song as long as I live, it will be too soon.
And I haven't really heard any heavy stuff in a long time that makes me want to check out an entire album. It doesn't all suck, by any means. But, I sure as hell don't see any world-changing bands coming down the pike anytime soon. If there are any, they'll come from outside the world of major labels and will probably be completely autonomous.

This topic has been kicked around the HQ occasionally, that every generation thinks it's music is the "best ever", and after a certain point, say the mid-20s, people tune out newer music. Personally, I don't listen to much music made after 1993-ish.

Have a will. Requirements vary by state. I don't know if you'll be able to read this -- http://tinyurl.com/pt69exy -- as I'm logged-in by default, but it's handy. A very, very, very important point of custom is that freeloaders and highjackers circle around the dead like jackals, and you need to be as bulletproof as they are likely to be savvy -- in other words, if your estate is $42,000, rebuff the common jackals; if your estate is $420M, don't skimp on the estate lawyers. If you have biological kids, it's more difficult to disinherit them than it is to add heirs.
Any follow-on questions?

But I guess I need to find a local atty to talk to. I also think I have to talk to their mother and find out if she has a trust set up for them.
Thanks anyway, cth.

Thing is, attorneys bill quite a chunk by the hour, so if you can refine the question that you're asking 'em by even 15 minutes of their consideration....through hashing issues out with the Horde, you're saving real money.

What's really important is a risk assessment. Who might challenge your will? Will your heirs be situated to defend?
