Whoever Controls the Past (Weather) Controls the Future
There are lots of stories appearing declaring 2012 to be the hottest year ever in the US. But is this really true?
Possibly - but we simply don't know for sure:
But was 2012 really the warmest year on record in the U.S.? It may have been, but the truth is that we don't know. There are two reasons for this. First, the historical data sets published by NCDC and NOAA lack integrity. Those organizations, which receive many millions of government dollars to promote global warming theory, do not publish raw data. Rather, as we explained here, they first adjust the data.
Now you might think that the actual measurements from weather station in the past would be rock-solid and reliable data that you could count on. But you'd be wrong. The Party consensus of climate scientists has been at work 'adjusting' it:
Below is a copy of the national weather data summary for February 1934. If we look at, say Arizona, for the month we see that the state average temperature for that month was 52.0°F. [Ed.: This is the paper version that was published at the time.]
However, if we look at the current NCDC temperature analysis (which runs from 1895-present) we see that for Arizona in February 1934 they have a state average of 48.9°F, not the 52.0°F that was originally published.
And even if the historical weather station raw data hasn't been fiddled with, there's still reason to be skeptical of whether current data really reflects global climate change.
Here's a temperature monitoring station (circled in red) in Marysville, CA. As an untrained, not-accredited, non-climate scientist see if you can spot possible reasons for why it might show a slight increase in annual temperature other than AGW.
Another Candidate For Dumbest Gun Control Article of the Year
Yes 'smart' guns will solve everything - just as long as you don't mind giving up your freedom, security, and privacy to your mostly-reliable gun 'guardian':
How might this work? Start with locational "self-awareness." Guns should know where they are and if another gun is nearby. Global positioning systems can meet most of the need, refining a gun's location to the building level, even within buildings. Control of the gun would remain in the hand of the person carrying it, but the ability to fire multiple shots in crowded areas or when no other guns are present would be limited by software that understands where the gun is being used.
Guns should also be designed to sense where they are being aimed. Artificial vision and optical sensing technology can be adapted from military and medical communities. Sensory data can be used by built-in software to disable firing if the gun is pointed at a child or someone holding a child.

One thing to point out - if women are wired to want a man to earn more then them - and I think the author is correct - feminism's drive to make women's and men's earnings "equal" (irrespective of what the work involves) is guaranteed to make women miserable.

Forbes had an article a while back about a survey of professional women. Something like 3/4s of them wanted to marry, have kids, and be stay at home moms. However, they also wanted a man who had at least a Master's degree and made more than they did, which pretty much meant six figures.
The majority of women currently in college would be better served by skipping it and instead finding work and spending time at the gym and the library and maybe take some community college courses on the side for their personal enrichment.

So another interesting point to ponder. Now that we have gay marriage in much of the country, when they heck is polygamy going to be legalized?
Why do I ask that in reference to nannies? If you are going to have more then one child, and you go the nanny route, your nanny is going to be a major part of your family for a long time. Why not just marry another partner and formalize it?

How do you respond to an ambush? You attack. We need to attack them and force their hand. The left would be terrified of a constitutional convention because there are too many things that could go wrong for them, including a successful vote to dissolve the Union (I think at this point it would have enough support from both sides to form a majority).

There certainly is something of a "husband strike" going on now.
I know a fair number of women in their 30s and 40s angry they can't find "good husband material" conversely, I don't know many men arguing the converse.
From my own personal experience modern marriage, for a man, is pretty damn one sided.

Eh. It works for some people. But there's also a lot to be said for a couple building everything together, going through the broke early years, etc. Women who do marry an older, established man get (unfairly or not) branded as gold-diggers or spoiled princesses. Nobody likes that.
Financial issues are one of the biggest killers of relationships. Having one partner already established is better for a couple than two idiots who have no idea about money trying to figure it all out. Any marriage is going to have plenty of ups and downs to experience, and a man who is in his early 30s who marries a woman in her early to mid twenties isn't going to be so far ahead that they don't have to work at it.

I know a fair number of women in their 30s and 40s angry they can't find "good husband material" conversely, I don't know many men arguing the converse.
"Good Husband Material" means, "Someone who meets my unrealistically high standards". Those women had plenty of time to find someone and settle down. Instead they chose to waste it fucking bad boys and climbing the corporate ladder. Too fucking bad, but they reap what they sow.

Project much? Exaggerate much?
There is no way, lady, that you have come close to knowing how hard or how easy every job compared to taking care of kids.
Ever think that maybe you're doing it wrong?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying raising kids is easy. Just not harder than every job in the whole world.
This Penelope is a drama queen and given my limited experience, I would guess that she's a mild chaos causer.
Drama queens have a tendency to insert chaos into the simplest routines as this gives them more opportunity to dramatize and feel disempowered or empowered depending on what they're emotion they're trying to evoke from their audience. (husband, kids, relatives, friends).
I'm interested in this latest personality "key" thingy but not to the point of paying some maestro to whip up a category for me. Especially since it's probably a computer generated quiz of some sort and really doesn't have much human interaction about it.
The comments were highly amusing.
The article also points out that it's not necessarily men that have been keeping women out of the boardroom. Another interesting point but this will go over many of their heads.
Anything to avoid actual personal self evaluation and judgment.

Where do people meet women these days? That's my problem. I'm in a male dominated industry, a lot of my hobbies involve me being at home alone or doing things with other guys(shooting, golf, etc). When I go to the gym male to female ratio is like 20 to 1. Even at political events, the men to women ratio is like 10 to 1.
People in my generation are starting their lives a lot later and as a result the traditional way of doing things is changing.
Do people still meet their future wives in college? Yeah, but probably not as much as they used to 20, 30 or more years ago.
And don't say bars. People don't go to bars to find husbands or wives, they go there for other reasons.

Heh, I hit yes on two of three with Cougar. To each his own, I guess.
The way I see it, I don't want a single mother/divorcee because I'm not going to raise some other guy's kids or deal with the ghosts of her failed marriage. Single women over 30 become suspect because I've met too many who are looking for a sperm donor and a checkbook. They spent their twenties partying and working and suddenly realized that their biological clock is ticking. The graduate degree thing is because, if the first two conditions are met, she's probably not spent a whole lot of time in the real world and I think I would go crazy trying to deal with that.

Dancing is great because there's lots of physical contact, you put yourself into a leadership role and you don't have to take it too seriously. Plus you'll be changing partners all the time, so you and her get a break from each other before it becomes awkward.

There are a few female friends of mine that I would have a relationship with even if they're over 30, but that's because I've known them a while. The graduate thing may be flexible in rare circumstances, but generally it isn't worth the hassle. The problem is that a lot of women with graduate degrees are going to evaluate you based on whether or not you have one. It ties into the comments above about women wanting a man who can provide for them and any kids. If she has plans to go to graduate school later in life, I have no problem with that.

145 I'm curious to see a gameplan that reacts to more realistic action on the part of the White House. They won't go door to door seizing guns--that'd provoke a response.
So it'll be half measures, bologna tactics, I think they called it in Yes, Prime Minister. The Russians won't invade Dover, they'll just meander over the boarder accidentally-on-purpose. Then stay, and so on. And they'll always leave you a way out.
How out we to plan if we assume that they'll be very shrewd in their actions? Won't they do something that gives us a "reasonable" response while it diminishes our freedom? And then just claim overreaction if we try to resist.
All this furor and raging is fun, but they won't do anything to publicly justify armed resistance. What are they likely to do? How are they likely to pigeon-hole us, and how do we respond without being corn-holed? This is what I'd like to see discussed.

I know of one happy marriage from eHarmony too. You know who always says eHarmony works though? Women. You know who always says it never works? Men.
I've tried both by the way, the quality is not different, at least not in my experience. Some of my matches I had already seen on other dating sites, including one who I learned had a boyfriend, but joined eHarmony because she was "curious"
And I was paying serious money for this. Might as well get that crap for free. Besides, it's all about volume, and the free sites simply have more of that than the paid ones do, for obvious reasons.
I gave up on it, because I've started noticing patterns and that women on these sites aren't nearly as diverse as you'd hope they'd be.

Heh- I thought at least my wife's family would read my book, but a large chunk of her side of the family hated or resented her father, so a story that found the good side of his life and death didn't exactly resonate with them. Outside the family it has very limited appeal. I'm mostly trying to provoke my F-I-L's killer into making a mistake. Not likely, but any solution is a long shot, so why the hell not.

But that's what I mean by lack of diversity: you have the rejects that no man unless he has 20 gallons of moonshine in him would consider, then the ones who work extremely busy careers or jobs that precluded them from having a social life (or any real relationship), the narcissists who just use the sites to fuck around, and then the ones who live out in the wilderness somewhere in a town of 5 people, but still refuse to date anyone who's not "local."
You go through these sites long enough you realize it is the same old shit.

Its reputation among non-women is that it's a Christian gold-digging site. And paying for it makes dudes waste more of their time getting jerked around by assholes than they would waste on a free site. Of course women like it.
On a more important topic--
Judas Priest is gay Judas Priest. Helloween is Judas Priest for sissies.
Important distinction.

Hard to say if NY will actually DO anything about guns, so far it's just posturing. Most of the furor comes from the blue cities, upstate ( where I live) the reception is decidedly chilly regarding any more restriction. Both Dems and pubs share a common thread about guns here, it's a mostly rural area.
Guns are a part of life here, so the idea of confiscation, registry of ALL guns, and MORE regs gets universal contempt.

After "negotiating" with Boner, they might even think they can get it but they ready to back up a notch or two.
Look for the final to be something which advances the ball without inciting rebellion. Like someone said up thread; bologna slicing.
Then every one relaxes because most of what they want won't apply to them for now and they don't feel the passion to throw their lives onto the castle walls because there isn't an ultimate intrusion to raise their blood.
That's Federal.
Some States now, might actually try it (good testing ground for any future Federal roll out) New York looks ripe. Already has universal registration and can easily track the majority of owners. They'll do it like the IRS does it when you get caught underpaying taxes; they send you a letter to comply. Thus alerting you to the eminent threat of physical enforcement and you do all their work for them. Remember Government workers are pretty lazy and don't want to take risks.
It's like killing someone with arsenic. You slip them a tiny dose every day and they just get sicker and sicker and soon enough they die.

I think the last few lines pretty much proves that yes we are supposed to be on even keel with the military as far as weapons as a counter to any standing military, and any ass sucking lib talking point about what the 2nd amendment means is pure bullshit.
"But though the scheme of disciplining the whole nation must be abandoned as mischievous or impracticable; yet it is a matter of the utmost importance that a well-digested plan should, as soon as possible, be adopted for the proper establishment of the militia. The attention of the government ought particularly to be directed to the formation of a select corps of moderate extent, upon such principles as will really fit them for service in case of need. By thus circumscribing the plan, it will be possible to have an excellent body of well-trained militia, ready to take the field whenever the defense of the State shall require it. This will not only lessen the call for military establishments, but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist."

The grocery store is a good place to meet women, especially at night. Singles tend to shop at night, I can vouch for this. So single moms are out of the question? Any bad experiences?
My father had the same advice. He used to work produce and said that women were downright forward. He swore that something about shopping for produce removed inhibitions. His best story was the woman who invited dad and a friend to come to her place and "party" with her and her two teenaged daughters.

Just the tip of the proverbial iceberg OSP. The premise for "The Curious Disappearance of Seamus Muldoon" (search on Amazon) is that during the search for my F-I-L, everybody we ran across had some cockamamie theory, ranging from "maybe he went back to his first wife", to "maybe he was abducted by aliens". Each of those "what-ifs" became the nucleus of a whimsical chapter. Although the events were tragic, the story actually wrote itself, in tribute to Jack. And some of it is actually rather funny.
Short version- the pervert neighbor killed Jack in a dispute and hid the body. Cops have no desire to solve the case, but the solution is out there somewhere.

""Independent of all other reasonings upon the subject, it is a full answer to those who require a more peremptory provision against military establishments in time of peace, to say that the whole power of the proposed government is to be in the hands of the representatives of the people. This is the essential, and, after all, only efficacious security for the rights and privileges of the people, which is attainable in civil society.
If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers, may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual state. In a single state, if the persons intrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair. The usurpers, clothed with the forms of legal authority, can too often crush the opposition in embryo. The smaller the extent of the territory, the more difficult will it be for the people to form a regular or systematic plan of opposition, and the more easy will it be to defeat their early efforts. Intelligence can be more speedily obtained of their preparations and movements, and the military force in the possession of the usurpers can be more rapidly directed against the part where the opposition has begun. In this situation there must be a peculiar coincidence of circumstances to insure success to the popular resistance.
The obstacles to usurpation and the facilities of resistance increase with the increased extent of the state, provided the citizens understand their rights and are disposed to defend them. The natural strength of the people in a large community, in proportion to the artificial strength of the government, is greater than in a small, and of course more competent to a struggle with the attempts of the government to establish a tyranny. But in a confederacy the people, without exaggeration, may be said to be entirely the masters of their own fate. Power being almost always the rival of power, the general government will at all times stand ready to check the usurpations of the state governments, and these will have the same disposition towards the general government. The people, by throwing themselves into either scale, will infallibly make it preponderate. If their rights are invaded by either, they can make use of the other as the instrument of redress. How wise will it be in them by cherishing the union to preserve to themselves an advantage which can never be too highly prized!
It may safely be received as an axiom in our political system, that the State governments will, in all possible contingencies, afford complete security against invasions of the public liberty by the national authority. Projects of usurpation cannot be masked under pretenses so likely to escape the penetration of select bodies of men, as of the people at large. The legislatures will have better means of information. They can discover the danger at a distance; and possessing all the organs of civil power, and the confidence of the people, they can at once adopt a regular plan of opposition, in which they can combine all the resources of the community. They can readily communicate with each other in the different States, and unite their common forces for the protection of their common liberty.
The great extent of the country is a further security. We have already experienced its utility against the attacks of a foreign power. And it would have precisely the same effect against the enterprises of ambitious rulers in the national councils. If the federal army should be able to quell the resistance of one State, the distant States would have it in their power to make head with fresh forces. The advantages obtained in one place must be abandoned to subdue the opposition in others; and the moment the part which had been reduced to submission was left to itself, its efforts would be renewed, and its resistance revive.
We should recollect that the extent of the military force must, at all events, be regulated by the resources of the country. For a long time to come, it will not be possible to maintain a large army; and as the means of doing this increase, the population and natural strength of the community will proportionably increase. When will the time arrive that the federal government can raise and maintain an army capable of erecting a despotism over the great body of the people of an immense empire, who are in a situation, through the medium of their State governments, to take measures for their own defense, with all the celerity, regularity, and system of independent nations? The apprehension may be considered as a disease, for which there can be found no cure in the resources of argument and reasoning""

Short version: AR-15 chambered for 7.62 NATO, was a contender to be the replacement for the M1 Garand. Comparable accuracy to the AR-15, better for long range due to the larger cartridge/bullet/powder charge. Pricy, but that is the nature of the AR platform beast. Not that the M14 is cheap, mind you.

OK, so it's kind of convoluted.....
When I first moved to Silicon Valley, the neighbor in the apartment next door shared the same last name. She was in the process of going from male to female in order to continue his submissive lesbian relationship with a woman whose husband had essentially drifted away into a Zen dojo.
Anyway, in just being sociable, I got invited to local events put on by South Bay Circles and the Bay Area Pagan Assemblies (BAPA, IIRC, had an "adopt a freeway" sign). At some of those events, I kept meeting up with a zaftig female whose license plate said "strega" and ended up working about a block and a half from where she worked.
So we went out to lunch a lot for a while, but she was probably more interested in someone seriously more into "The Craft" than accounting and told outrageous lies to get me set up with someone in her office....and that's how the BH and I got acquainted.
As an extra bonus, the first heavy date with the BH was to the West Coast Computer Faire, only it rained and I thought it was still in the old place....so we drove up to BART in and got thoroughly drenched and squelched to the wrong venue until we ended up at the right one.....and kind of squished our way through the whole thing. You develop a certain cameraderie through shared suffering. We're working on our third decade together, so it must've worked.

Need to do some mission. Boxie stows away on the mission. People on the mission die to save Boxie, Muffit finds a way to save them.
The fleet would have had a better chance if they just double tapped Boxie and been done with it.

ObamaÂ’s nominee for Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is a revolving-door lobbyist who worked at Citigroup in 2008, and then got a $944,518 check from the failed bank on January 15, 2009, according to his financial disclosure statement. That was just weeks after Congress passed the Wall Street bailout, funneling $45 billion in taxpayer money to the bank.
Also, in the 1990s, Lew worked at K Street lobbying firm Van Ness Feldman.
This certainly undercuts ObamaÂ’s talk about closing the revolving door, keeping out lobbyists, and standing up to Wall Street.

But, to avoid causing long-term inflation expectations to skyrocket, he should pledge that he will have the Treasury issue enough bonds to buy back all the newly issued currency as soon as it is allowed to do so.
"He should pledge" is referencing the JEF, who as we know, will always honor his pledges.

Right. TFG is the one who said in his first days "I won"
TFG keeps his word less than Bill Clinton ever did.

The real problem with the weather station in teh asphalt parlking lot is that before urban crawl it was probably in an open field with a nice chilly breeze blowing by regularly, so now they compare the data and voila, the gauge in the heat sink has higher readings.
I don't buy the AGW or even GW. I never bought it and I doubt I ever will by it. What about the arctic ice cover tipping point we supposedly hit a few years ago. Scam of the millennia.
That being said I hope I get a nice cave when they force us to stop heating our buildings.
