— Open Blogger Good evening, Morons and Moronettes. I'm tmi3rd, and Maetenloch is working on his wood chipper this eveningÂ… it fouled up when he tried to stuff too many hoboes into it, and heÂ’s got to hurry up if heÂ’s going to make good hobo sausage before the meat gets too ripe. So, if youÂ’ll permit me, letÂ’s do dis...
So I found this next thing on FacebookÂ…
IÂ’d never heard of Stefan Moyneux prior to watching this, but IÂ’m a believer now. HereÂ’s the thing about this: he bases his arguments on the premise that Brand has the noblest of intentions, and then runs them out to their logical end.
Now, IÂ’ll be the first person to point out that you can get after most liberals with encyclopedic facts, and that wonÂ’t alter their perspective of things. The thing about this approach, however, is for the folks that are wavering or on the fenceÂ… itÂ’s so calm and positive, you almost canÂ’t help but nod along to it, and its warmth is almost intoxicating.
When youÂ’re selling the idea, or rebutting a liberalÂ’s bullshit, I urge you to ponder that youÂ’re not going to change the liberalÂ’s mind, but you may change the mind of the audience watching this unfold. The liberal has no defensible arguments save for their good intentions, and that one weapon they have requires the use of judo or jiu-jitsu against it- use their momentum to pull them into a vulnerable position, and then pound them not with remarks about how stupid they are, but how their good intentions have been so poorly-executed by people who pretend to be on their side.
Much Ado About Nothing
So a post over at Gateway has been making the rounds about “the establishment plans to exorcise the Tea Party”.
It just so happens that our dear friend Conservative Belle, a loooooooong-time Moronette, happens to be pretty well-connected within the party apparatus, and pointed out the following:
LOOOOOOOL! I looked at Open Secrets to see about this Defending Main Street PAC. As a Republican Party member, I have not heard of any strategy to get rid of Tea Party members or conservatives. [NOTE:On the contrary, I do hear about the Club for Growth, Tea Party Express and Paulbots who want to take out Republicans.] This is just some ridiculous rogue group and guess how much money they have. A whole $39K cash on hand. LMAO! They sound like a REAL threat.Stop getting your panties in a bunch about headlines like this. This garbage is meant to rip the party apart and get your faux outrage up. There is no RNC/GOP strategy trying to target anyone except DEMOCRATS.
If anyoneÂ’s interested, the links to the OpenSecrets pages are here and here.
If anyone wasn't aware of it already, there's a big intraparty battle going on for who gets to call the shots... not too dissimilar to what we saw between Hillary and Obama last time. Best way to make sure what needs to happen happens is to stay focused on it, and don't let gadflies and poltroons distract you from the important stuff. Obamacare, amnesty, and a rather large debt are still out there.
CouldnÂ’t Do It Without My Peeps
So my boy Leeroy Jenkins sent me this group of Halloween pinups.

Yummy!
Musical Selections
So, I kind of happened across Tying Tiffany in the past few months, and sheÂ’s got a big YouTube channel. ItÂ’s semi-Gothic electronic, and IÂ’ve been using it as study music. HereÂ’s a pretty good example.
And just because IÂ’m a metal guy, here are the vastly underrated Coroner from a couple of decades agoÂ… these guys could frigginÂ’ PLAY.
Obligatory Bugs Bunny Appearance
Morons and Moronettes, I give you “Waikiki Wabbit”.
Beavis & Butthead
“Scared Straight”
Okay, folks, got a game tonight, so you kids play nice! If you need to get a hold of me, find me at my handle on Twitter. Thanks!

Just learned of another nuclear bomb hidden in O-care. There's a death spiral starting based on the enrollment numbers (which anyone with any sense knew would likely happen). Well, guess what. The federal govt. is on the hook for 80% of any losses to the insurance industry if the death spiral happens.
"Risk corridors" were hidden in that steaming pile of pass-it-so-you'll-know-what's-in-it crap. The federal govt will pay 50% of losses over 103% of actuarial projections and 80% of losses above 108% of projections.
And then the subsidies and Medicaid are also paid for by Uncle Sam. This is a Tsar Bomba of a clusterfuck dropped in the fiscal/economic pie.

A lot of these guys on the national broadcasts feel the need to A) eliminate ANY 'dead air' and/or B) try to make every single situation some sort of dramatic do or die event.
And in between all that, they spew every meaningless statistic they could find in baseball-reference.com.
They need to take some ritalin (or smoke some weed lifted from the umpire's glaucoma stash) and chill, pop out a meaningful insight every now and then, and enjoy the friggin game.

Where's the evidence of that? Every war we've ever fought we've had to be dragged kicking and screaming into, and we keep unilaterally disarming. We retaliate; we're almost never the aggressors. Andwhen we ARE the aggressors, we base it on what we feel are entirely legitimate reasons.
For me, the fact that Moyneux says that those in power are warmongers negates everything else he says.
I hate bullshit. It's the reason we're in so much trouble now.

Unless everyone else is taxed to death, they're not going to step up and give away their wealth.

A data center critical for allowing uninsured Americans to buy health coverage under President Barack Obama's healthcare law went down on Sunday, halting online enrollment for all 50 states in the latest problem to hit the program's troubled rollout.
The data center operated by Verizon's Terremark experienced a connectivity issue that caused it to shut down, affecting the federal government's already problem-plagued online marketplace Healthcare.gov and similar sites operated by 14 states and the District of Columbia, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Root cause? The shutdown.

My suggestion would be to avoid the white plumbing stuff and head over to the electrical department for the gray PVC conduit.
It won't degrade in the sun as fast and seems to be a lot less brittle formulation when pushed hard. PVC conduit is available in Sched 40 and heavier 80

Mom and Dad were devout Republicans, so they did everything in their power to keep Uncle's hands off. After the estates are settled, I'm turning my portion over to my brother.
All my friends are leftist. They can't believe I'd give my brother total control over my finances.
Their mistrust says everything about them and nothing about my brother. I KNOW my brother. I've given him the passwords to all my accounts. He had total control over my parents' finances for the last year of their lives.
He almost died a couple years ago when during a routine hernia operation they punctured his bowel. By the evening he had a systemic infection. They tried every antibiotic and were down to the second-to-the-last one. I visited him every day during the three weeks he was in the hospital. Though the doctors said he'd likely die, I pretended that everything was fine. I made him laugh and did everything in my power to calm him.
After he recovered, he said my visits saved his life.
So if he rips me off, it just proves I was wrong about everything anyway. At that point I'll just check into an asylum and spent my declining years doing jigsaw puzzles.

It's a scene from "That Seventies Show." The actor, Kurtwood Smith, was famous for playing villains before the show. His most memorable villain was the horrifying, utterly repulsive Clarence J. Boddicker in Robocop.
Nobody knew Smith could do comedy. He's a brilliant comedic actor whose forte is deadpan sarcasm. Occasionally, though, he'd scream his head off in exultation, always when someone got his comeuppance.
The meme is therefore a combination of "Let's do this!" and "The bad guys have gotten what they deserve!"

Yup. If my bro shafts me, I lose faith in all humanity, so I won't need money. I'll just turn myself over to the state and not worry about anything anymore.
But he won't. Both my parents were utterly vulnerable by the end. They both had dementia. My brother scrupulously asked them for permission every time he wrote a check. He explained everything to them and always made sure a witness was present.

Funnily enough, most of my leftist "friends" have dropped me. I expected it. As an experiment, I asked one why he no longer e-mailed me, and he said it was to give me room.
I told him I didn't need room; communication is what helps. Did the prolonged, horrible deaths of my parents--ten straight months of suffering--simply make him realize that he himself was going to die?
No response. You know what, though?
He's still going to die.

I'm fifty-one, so I knew both my parents for fifty-one years. It's surreal to keep realizing they're not here. I live next door to them, so I'd go over every night and have late-night conversations with Mom.
I still think, "I'll go tell Mom about--" And then I realize I can't.

One of my brothers is a leftist in the entertainment industry. He came out to be with Mom as she died.
The very first night he was here, he went into a monologue in my living room about the Koch brothers and...wait for it...Sarah Palin.
Mom died, and my leftist brother came over my house. We sat around talking about Mom, and then my brother went into a monologue about...Club for Growth and the Koch brothers. The day Mom died.
After he went back to New York, my investment brother and I agreed that we hope we never see him again. He's not even human anymore.

She then asked, "so there are morons all across the country? How about overseas, can you be in other countries and still be a moron? To which the only reply possible is: "oh, yes.....morons are everywhere." -- which caused her spouse to choke on her drink and say, "he's got a point, there."

It sucks. That seems flippant, but it's the only way I can say it.>>>>
I had to take care of Dad twenty-four hours a day for the last month of his life. He died very badly, screaming and running around the house. He'd ignored his cancer for two years, and he didn't tell us. It was a mess.
For about a month after he died, I couldn't sleep in my bed. I had to sleep on the sofa, with a DVD going. I had the heebie-jeebies bad.
Almost every night, I'd fall asleep and hear Dad shouting for me. I'd jump up off the sofa and take a few steps, and then I'd realize, "It's over. He's dead. I'm in my house, not his."
When I hear healthy young leftists talk about how death panels are a good thing and that old people are costing us too much, I console myself with the fact that every one of them will someday be old and ill, and that's when they'll get it.
Their suffering will be magnificent and well deserved. It'll also be a "teachable moment" for them.

When Mom was in the hospice, one of the nurses said, "I could just kick myself in the ass. I voted for that fucker Obama twice, and I just had my hours cut, and my health insurance was canceled."
Mom was lying on the bed with her oxygen mask on. I looked over at her and she rolled her eyes.
After the nurse left, Mom said, "I can't believe I'm dying surrounded by idiots."
We laughed.
She was worried about my future, so I told her, "Look, both my parents died of cancer, so statistically I'm a sure thing for getting it too. I'll be dead long before the really bad stuff happens."
And we laughed some more.

That's the key. Honestly, even gallows humor is better than none. You get to decide how happy you are, and you get to decide whether to laugh or cry, and usually (not always) laughing is more fun.
My husband and I have been laughing about how much fun we have had since losing the house to the bank this month. I haven't mowed, cleaned out a garden, fixed any plumbing or mended any fences all month. But I have had lots of time to go to the park with the boy, read books I have been stacking up, and even go through all the photos I had meant to sort.
Laughing is working so far. I cried when we walked out for the last time, but then I was done with that crap.

when my Dad commited suicide, all kinds of false "friends" dropped off the face of the earth.. I quite literally never heard from them again. My grief and the circumstance made them too uncomfortable I guess.
Except for my best friend. She dropped everything, and flew to North Dakota in December, got a room in a hotel near my parents home. She didn't ask. She just came. And she called me and said she was there, and if I needed a break or someone to talk to she would be there.
So during the day I sold my Dad's car and guns, talked to the sheriff, got the death certificate, filed the insurance, packed up his stuff for my mom, made memorial arrangements. And then collapsed at the hotel. That's a friend

Both my parents committed suicide by not cooperating in their treatment. They also refused to understand what their illnesses entailed, so they made us complicit in their deaths by forcing us to go behind their backs and countermand their advanced care directives.
We had medical power of attorney over them, so since both had inoperable terminal cancer, we had to choose which medications to withhold so that Dad would die faster, and then we had to tell them to not do chest compressions on Mom if her heart stopped. Chest compressions would've broken her ribs and punctured her lungs. She died of cardiac arrest.
I expect that the vast majority of my absent friends won't come back, but it's actually good. They weren't true friends after all.
My brother and I are in a very small club: people who were forced to be complicit in the suicides of both parents.

A lot of people have such a link in their connection but don't know about it unless that is how it comes to their premises. They're also fairly common for bringing voice links across mountain ranges. In my semi-regular job we've made use of temporary microwave repeater rigs to bring heavy duty bandwidth into places with insufficient pipes or in some cases, none at all.
A few years ago, we had a 200 Mb symmetrical connection into the Ft. Mason Center in San Francisco for the YouTube Live event. It was fun trying to come up with ways to test the throughput.

When "Ian Galt" mentioned that they try to fill air-time with everything under the sun, I get that. What I don't understand is "homers" asking about why announcers think that "great" players aren't "great" -?
Television should be a much easier medium to broadcast upon, seeing as you don't need to "fill-in-the-blanks" with description. Acknowledging that a "great" player made a "great" play isn't "worship". It is knowledge advanced.
Perhaps how you choose to voice your opinion, and through what verbiage is a point of contention, but witnessing greatness often elicits ebullient accolades.
Should one team be the 'victim' of greatness, the viewer may say something like: "Why Don't These Guys Just Bust a Nut on XPlayer?!? They seem to love him and disregard my team and/or feelings!?!"
...Get over yourselves. Your emotions make you Progressive Bitches to What Amounts to nothing.
-When someone flubs names repeatedly? --check.
-When someone slashes the English Language repeatedly? --check.
-When someone predicts strategy wrong repeatedly? --check.
-When someone steps on the "play-by-play" repeatedly, or vice-versa, steps on the color commentary repeatedly? --check.
The folks that bitch, cry and moan about officials, umpires and play-by-play guys have no idea what it takes to stay within that medium or system.
I leave the commentary alone, but the amateurs are there to shit on the professionals time-after-time. I had to write this, as a member of "Those Who Do; Not Teach".
I've done the play-by-play and I can say that Joe Buck is very, very good. Tim McCarver is not always, but that minuta is subjective.
Those of us who grew up on radio have a far better reminder of what is "professional". Those of us who grew up listening to National Broadcasts have an even better idea. Those of us who grew up on baseball, radio and national broadcasts have pinpoint accuracy as to what constitutes correct vs. incorrect, greatness vs. Fandom, hyperbole vs. statistics and Shit vs Shinola.
Announcers are PAID to make situations seem "greater" than they are. However, the finality of the Post-Season amplifies each-and-every situation, whether you like it or not.
As a semi-coward, I post this at this late hour because of two factors:
#1. I am right.
#2. I am drunk.
The rest of you can knock it off. As a "bone", Shannon Sharpe is incapable of speaking The English Language. Ex-NFL athletes are IDIOTS, for the most-part when it comes to decorum and language. They talk over one-another, blow-the-prose and generally suck.
...and that's 65% "white guys".
If I hear, "They've done good", one more time? I'll do what I've done. I'll call the local station. Like a jackass. It never works. I'll continue doing it, however.
Maybe one day, I'll hear, "They've done well.
...perchance to dream.

Police said that Lopez was walking away from them with the pellet gun in his LEFT hand when they ordered him to drop the weapon. The deputy said that when Lopez turned around, he raised the gun in their direction and fearing for their lives the deputy blasted away.
Autopsy reports indicate 7 entry wounds in the RIGHT side of his body.
This indicates that he was turning to his right when he turned, the gun was in his left hand and could not have been pointed at the deputies

When you go with a lie and there's no time to think it out, you miss small details like that.
They'll go with the full turn to the right explanation...and then people are gonna ask how he managed to fall on the toy in that scenario...and then they'll need a different lie for that....it never ends once you go down that path...
...and then when it looks like their story is falling apart, some witness or video will appear saying there wasn't any shouted warnings...etc, etc.
Right now, contradicting witnesses would be too scared to get mouthy.

cthulhu: Hiking areas.
- Medicine Lake Volcano, 30 miles NE of Mt. Shasta. Nearby is Glass Mountain ... lots of volcanic stuff.
- Glass Mountain (a different one) in Mono County.
- Pteroglyphs near the San Antonio Mission, near Lockwood CA. Watch out for stray 155mm HE and various AP rounds.
- From the San Antonio Mission, go north, past Junipero Serra peak to the Arroyo Seco campground and eventually on to Sycamore Cellars Winery

The coming week's trip is Southbound -- the Mt Shasta link was one that I found useful from the trip 2 weeks ago heading Northbound. We did the Haystack first, and it's seriously Out In The Middle of Nowheresville, and the directions dropped us right at the trailhead and gave us good confidence for the hike. Then we did a hike in Dunsmuir on our way back -- good directions, good hints, good description.
I'm leaning toward Pinnacles on Day 1; something in the area of Griffith Park for Day 2; and I need something between Disneyland and the Ronald Reagan Library for Day 10 (maybe another Griffith Park) and something close to I-5, 99, or 152 on Day 11 for heading back.

200 Mb is enough for, let's say, 200 streaming videos, 3125 voice calls uncompressed, a smallish to medium sized corp data center, or, an entire small town ...
Cores are the thick bits in the middle, that everything else attaches too ...
Just like an apple, or, a building ...
Posted by: Joe at October 27, 2013 09:46 PM (/oZbq)
200 Mb would be vastly in excess of what you'd need for those uses. Most video streaming services top out at less than 20 Mb for their best quality. Keep in mind the rate I mentioned for that YouTube event was not something you're likely to see in an inexpensive consumer option.
Gaming isn't that dependent on speed. The amount of information exchanged between the players and/or server isn't very big. In fact, it can be quite small. Latency is a much bigger factor. For example, satellite connections have a lot of added latency because the signal has to go up to the bird and back down again before it gets to the internet proper. This is a big problem for anything that requires rapid responses. Otherwise you can find yourself shooting at where your opponent was a second before you fired.
I couldn't say whether a microwave relay adds any significant latency. The company should be able to say or if you can run ping tests at a location where it is already in use, that data can then be compared to what the game maker says is needed for the game.

So why don't we hijack the process and turn the absurdity up to 11 and pull the knobs off, maybe even create a site (or sites) that create new liberal memes. Memes that give us the giggles.

Rising prices help companies increase profits; rising wages help borrowers repay debts. Inflation also encourages people and businesses to borrow money and spend it more quickly. "
Inflation does indeed help those who are in debt (i.e. the federal government), because debt is paid with inflated dollars. However, inflation also tends to destroy the average person's buying power.

Microwave coms, like photons in a fiber, or electrons on a copper wire, travel at the speed of light (or near). The typical components of delay are the serialization (bandwidth - microwave typically has ample bandwidth), processing, and propagation (distance). Satellites use microwaves but the distances are so huge so they typically are not adequate for interactive traffic (like games).
The only real problem with terrestrial microwaves is that the transmission medium is the air itself, and, as such, is subject to changes in same, or, what we call "weather".

That wouldn't be a bad idea if the MSM were honest, and picked up memes from the environment.....unfortunately, however, they are bought-and-paid-for foot soldiers for the DNC and will only pick up memes doled out to them by their masters. That's why any damned thing uttered by TFG or Fauxcohontas gets echoed -- no matter how idiotic -- while sensible people saying sensible things outside the beltway get the mute button.
Which brings me to a related topic -- Cruz is looking like a fuckin' Vulcan genius playing 4-dimensional chess in that he just caused horrendous drama by demanding something so outlandish, so outrageous.....that the Dems are going to be begging for it four weeks later. He just gave every single R a free advertisement for their next election -- just juxtapose the Dems most strident anti-Obamacare-delay rhetoric against their coming-soon-to-your-website demand for an Obamacare delay.

As someone who almost shot a kid in the face because of a toy gun I can't second guess the cops here with the info given yet Posted by: Navycopjoe at October 28, 2013 01:58 AM
Fatal entry wounds in the right hip and right chest, gun in the left hand. Cops said he turned and raised the gun at them. They shot before the gun could possibly have been pointed at them.
Gun in the left hand was the cops own report. Entry wounds in right side of body was in the autopsy report. That alone means they shot him before he had a chance to aim it at them or even drop it
Why didn't he know when the cops hit the siren? That section of Santa Rosa is a rough area and the relations between cops and the Latino population there is not what you'd call amiable. Cop sirens are probably as common as car horns. Why stop when you're not actually doing anything illegal? It's not a crime to carry a toy gun as long as you're not trying to hold up a 7-11 with it
Why didn't he drop the gun when ordered? It looks like he was turning to see who was yelling when he got plugged by the deputy.
Cops are getting more militarized, more apt to shoot first and ask questions later, and are almost always exonerated if they can claim "fear for their lives". They've even shot family pets using that justification, as if a dog can understand a raging cop. Two Filipina women were damn near killed in L.A. for the crime of delivering papers early in the morning in a neighborhood full of hyped up cops.
Sonoma County has had a rash of citizens killed by police in the last five years, it's not a good indication of a force that appraises their situation before opening fire

Had you shot the kid, you'd be doing time for manslaughter and his family would have sued you into beggary.
A cop doesn't have to use that restraint if his department will clam up, the union will lawyer up for you, prosecutors tend to take you at your word, and you're often immune from litigation
Witnesses often tend to "forget" things if fellow cops start pulling you over for all sorts of bullshit reasons and cuffing you while they turn your car or home inside out searching it for drugs or guns.

I hate to say this, but police need to to be trained in a simulator with a taser in their jock where they get nailed both for a "bad shoot" or when they would have been killed.....and they need to go through months of this at the academy, starting with easy and slow and progressing through fast hard calls, until they get to a reasonable accuracy level. It is unjust and unfair to put guys into a situation where they could commit manslaughter or come home in a bag because they didn't get enough preparation and drill and blame it on "twitchy finger syndrome."
The retired cop's reaction of "boys will be boys" is just infuriating. How many of his men got tossed into the meat grinder for bad shoots? How many of them ended up dead for no fucking reason besides sloppiness? His men deserve better than that.

So in a state with CC, every and any citizen could be a deadly threat to the cop. So therefore the cop is entitled to blow him into hamburger because he didn't respect the cop's authority so must have been thinking of shooting the cop.
Cops should be second guessed, they have power and the means to kill. The greater the power, the greater the responsibility

about them being raised on video games. Twitchy finger syndrome.

In case anyone missed it, I'm feelin' a bit cranky tonight. But I'd like to throw out a scenario. Let's just say you were bored one evening and decided to watch a random movie in a theater in some random town -- I dunno, maybe The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, CO, on July 20 -- and some hypermedicated loonie-toons comes in through the emergency exit and starts shooting up the place. By some sort of miracle, however, an armed policeman enters the theater through another door approximately 60 seconds into the massacre -- unlike the actual event.
How much training, how much drill, and how much professionalism would you want that policeman to have? Several of the people inside the darkened theater were in costume, the situation was chaotic and fluid, every second counted, and the policeman would have been in extreme peril from the moment he entered from someone who had already oriented himself to the situation. Furthermore, smoke grenades were wafting over a scene of carnage, with dead and dying cluttering the area.
In such a scenario, I'd want someone who was really, really, really good and practiced at sorting out the dangerous from the innocent -- and if the death total ended up with "psycho -- 12; cop --2", I'd consider that a reason to sack the entire management of the police department and start over.

The problem with the Lopez shooting is that the cops justification for killing a boy with a toy gun was that the kid raised the gun at them. Gun in the left hand and bullets in the kid's right side is making their version of the incident a bit sketchy to say the least. The elapsed time between reporting a suspicious person and calling for paramedics seemed a bit quick too, but events can happen in a few seconds so I'll hold off on casting doubt based on that

I think cops have less reason to fear a person with a CCW (it is called a CPL in Michigan), but they have to be alert when they come into contact with ANYBODY. It is the random idiots that can be frightening.
A MI state trooper got killed a month or so ago stopping a young man who was driving a truck on a suspended license. He pulled a gun out of the glove box and shot him in the head. Now I'll have to pay for the bastard's incarceration for the next 60+ years, along with his pregnant wife's incarceration as an accessory. Oh, and I'll probably have to support the kid she is going to pop out. Lovely.

Apologize for taking you out of context, but I really think if our Marines have to hold their fire with an enemy setting up an obvious attack by sworn enemies, the cops should be restrained from blowing away American citizens on our own streets because somebody sneezed
The second Dirty Harry had a scene where they were on the training grounds for street level shooting. Back then you didn't pass for shooting too many innocents in the pursuit of the bad guy. Now I wonder if the innocents are written off as collateral damage

It doesn't mean shit for a kid to pull a gun on a cop and the cops know this
I go with the saying about 12/6
As far as the Cali shooting I don't know what I would have done
Do I think the cop have to wait for someone to shoot first or to actually be in the situation to have a chance to get a shot off? Of course not
I just hate second guessing a cop's actions

I've been in management a long time -- I hate to second-guess the guy actually exposed to the problem, in general. If you're running a bunch of assembly workers and have to deal with a stopped-up toilet that they need, I'm not going to summon you before a board of plumbers for your mistakes. Further, I well recognize that dealing with malefactors is dangerous....which is, precisely, the reason I tend to leave it to the police.
But it is also true that ultimate power requires ultimate control and ultimate supervision. If someone is going to be toting around a combined grand jury, indictment, jury trial, sentence, appeal, and execution in a pocket-sized container labeled "Glock", one might expect a few safeguards and restrictions to be involved. I, myself, would find it useful for a jury to hear "I scored in the 99th percentile in the standardized LEO deadly-force exercise during my last run in March." That, along with, "I saw the perp reach into the shadow of his hoodie and begin to pull out something shiny -- after he was down, it turned out to be a reflectorized ticket stub" would put me a long way to "unfortunate, but a good shoot."

As a mil cop we trained and trained and trained some more but our budget was sweet
Big cities cut the training budgets all the time and stick these young cops in dangerous neighborhoods were they are outgunned
The whole situation is out of whack
Posted by: Navycopjoe at October 28, 2013 03:16 AM (1DZOE)
If you're going to put someone out there with the power of life-and-death on their arm -- for God's sake, ensure they're trained. If you're going to put eyes and ears out on the street, no such problem -- but make sure they run away from instead of toward major issues.
Posted by: cthulhu at October 27, 2013 11:31 PM (T1005)
I know I bashed cops the other day, but, as I did then, gotta say that the Aurora cops did some pretty heroic stuff after that shooting at the theatre - mainly having to do with handling the injured in the aftermath. The ambulances got caught up in a bureaucratic cesspool with their emergency director insisting that they remain at a relatively distant staging area and significantly delaying response while children were critically injured. Many of those who were shot were transported to the hospitals by the cops themselves after the roadblock became apparent.
In my own interactions with A-town cops I found them to be reasonable and intelligent, but this hasn't always been the case with family members. There are also way too many of them. And then, there was that one time when, in another "wrong house" scenario, they shot a certified hand gun trainer in the ass because he was cleaning his gun and turned to face them when they came to his door. He's lucky to be alive.

There's actually a very interesting core to this -- Dems are constantly attacking GOP brand loyalty and flaunting their caucus discipline groupthink....but each time they do, they further illuminate that the GOP has actual tenets worth arguing about where the Dems merely have an addiction to unrestricted power.

How many voters would vote for a pro-life, TParty candidate if they had a D? How many voters would vote for a Stalinist if they had an R? To make the experiment the most fun, both candidates would be completely honest about their TP and Stalinist positions on all the issues.

it would the most fun if we could figger out a way to make an escalating scenario -- such as the R candidate openly saying "why of course I'll vote for Reid/Pelosi for leader/speaker, and vice versa for the D -- etc, etc, etc, etc. Set the study up to go to the full length required to find out how dumb is the dumbest, dumb of the truly fucking dumb.
