So Who Shot JFK?
Was it Dallas, that well-known city of hate? Yes, said the NYT back then as well as today in James McAuley's recent article, "The City With a Death Wish in Its Eye." Even Stephen King concurs.
"For 50 years, Dallas has done its best to avoid coming to terms with the one event that made it famous: the assassination of John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963," writes James McAuley in today's New York Times. He goes on to describe JFK-era Dallas as a right-wing "city of hate."
Was it you and me? Yes, say the Rolling Stones.
Was it a sad little local commie Russian defector? Nyet, says Marina Oswald who still lives in Texas and claims that Lee Harvey is innocent.
Was it this guy?
Eh. That seems rather unlikely. His alibi was rock-solid and he was also an FBI informant during that time.
Was it the ladies of Dallas high society and Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews to a lesser extent? Yes, says James McAuley, doubling down on his Dallas-done-it theory.
Well I guess it will always remain a giant mystery although I'm intrigued by this Carol Burnett/Dallas Ladies Garden Society theory.
And when you think about it, they would have had the means, motive, and perfect opportunity to pull off an assassination. With easy access to costumes, firearms and the levers of power in Dallas, it would be simple for them to sweet talk their way through security without even a hint of suspicion. So when they casually mentioned that after tea they were going out to view some wildflowers and do a little target shooting, who in Texas would have given it a second thought?
Conclusion: It's a bad idea to mess with Texas but for god sakes do not ever cross the DLGS. They play for keeps.

The Latest Attempt to Blame Republicans for ObamaCare
Jamelle Bouie, writing in The Daily Beast: "Before we blame the problems with Healthcare.gov on 'big government' or 'liberalism,' we should remember that the Affordable Care Act needed GOP cooperation to succeed."Why? As Robert Gamble noted, "If your plan requires complete control and no opposition, then it isn't a plan, it's a wish."
If "the Affordable Care Act needed GOP cooperation to succeed," why did President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi go forward with the bill when it was clear that no Republican in the House or Senate would vote for the bill as written? Why alienate people whose cooperation is absolutely necessary?
Shorter version: By opposing the ACA you made us fuck up. So it's all on you somehow.
ObamaCare About to Run into 'Irish Democracy'
Now soak that in for a moment. It is a coin flip, at best, for the president as to whether his signature achievement, his only achievement, will fail. It will be repealed in essence by a popular referendum: The mass refusal of people to go along with Obama's top-down, compulsory system that was set to transform a sixth of the economy. That possibility should traumatize and probably is traumatizing the White House. Same goes for any Democratic lawmaker who spent time thinking this through. The political implications of this are almost too enormous to calculate.
Mark Steyn Knows a Monarchy When He Sees One
It is a condition of my admission to this great land that I am not allowed to foment the overthrow of the United States Government. Oh, I signed it airily enough, but you'd be surprised, as the years go by, how often the urge to foment starts to rise in one's gullet. Fortunately, at least as far as constitutional government goes, the president of the United States is doing a grand job of overthrowing it all by himself. On Thursday, he passed a new law at a press conference. George III never did that. But, having ordered America's insurance companies to comply with Obamacare, the president announced that he is now ordering them not to comply with Obamacare.
...But on he staggers, with a wave of his scepter, delaying this, staying that, exempting the other, according to his regal whim and internal polling. The omniscient beneficent Sovereign will now graciously "allow" us "folks" to keep all those junk plans from bad-apple insurers. Yet even the wisest King cannot reign forever, and what will happen decades down the road were someone less benign - perhaps even (shudder) a Republican - to ascend the throne and wield these mighty powers?
Hey, relax: If you like your Constitution, you can keep your Constitution. Period. And your existing amendments. Well, most of them - except for the junk ones.
People have been declaring the bayonet an outmoded tool for 70+ years. But it keeps turning out to be too useful to ever get rid of.
Again in the 1970s, Britain planned to go to a bullpup, and at the time of the spring 1982 South Atlantic War, the SA80 was nearing production. Bayonets were used to great effect by the Scots Guards and the Paras; Platoon sergeant Ian McKay of B Coy 3 Para received the Victoria Cross posthumously for leading a bayonet charge at Mount Longdon, and the Scots went to cold steel when ammo ran low on Mount Tumbledown. As a result of the great effect of the bayonet in clearing Argentine trenches and inducing Argentine surrenders, the new gun was hastily redesigned with a bayonet attachment before going into production as the L85 in 1985. The bayonet is called the L3A1. The media are still eager to entomb the bayonet (for example, in this 2002 story in the Telegraph), but the Army is not.
...It's unlikely the British will give up their Sweet Sister any time soon. In 2004, they used bayonets in Iraq to rout Sadrist militia; the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders - perhaps a descendant of Sassoon's "Highland Major's" regiment - killed some 35 with a full-on bayonet charge.
Oh and do you know what tomorrow is? Here is a hint.
On Before and After Pictures of the $25K Queen Anne
I'm weird and broke, so my After photos are really all During photos. There is nothing permanent in your house. Your house is a direction, or more accurately, it's one of two directions. Getting better or getting worse. There is no stasis in houses. Nothing is "modern," or "updated." Newly installed, maybe. But the hideous stuff you ripped out, usually barely a decade old, was all modern and updated when they put it in, too. What it really was, was a fad.
Fads rule in everything in American public life. There used to be fewer choices for everything you used or owned. There were only three TV channels when I was young, and yet people had a more varied outlook than they do now, even though basic cable has three hundred. Everyone had to have Corian counters when Clinton was President. Everyone had to have granite counters when Bush was President. Everyone wants repossessed granite countertops in Obama's second term, which is almost continuity, but my point stands. In two years every one will sniff at your granite and say quartz is where it's at, dahling, and you'll tear it all out again.
And on dealing with Calsomine:
Three of the bedroom ceilings still displayed their original coatings on the ceiling, two of the three completely untouched, the third on patchwork display after sleeping under a 1970s attempt to put textured paint over calsomine. Calsomine paint -- isn't. It isn't paint. It's paste, like something Tom Sawyer would con you into painting Aunt Polly's fence with. People tried painting over calsomine paint for decades back in the day, and it would peel forevermore, because it's essentially a coat of chalk, and everyone got disgusted with trying, some putting in asbestos tiles, others drop ceilings, desperately trying to keep the lead paint chips out of their Wheaties. That usually worked until they were able to solve the problem once and for all by burning their house to the ground. They often accomplished this by plugging in their leg lamp and their Christmas tree at the same time, using that socket that already had the radio, four other lamps, and an extension cord for a toaster in the next room. The lamp was a major award, so you just had to plug it in. It wasn't their fault.

So my friend's mom fell and injured herself, nicked something and was bleeding internally. She was transferred from her small town hospital to a big city hospital where she got better enough to be transferred back to a rehab facility in the small town. Unfortunately in all the transfers not all her medication orders followed her which resulted in her not getting a medication she needed, therefore throwing her body into withdrawal. She was tranquilized for 2 days because no one realized this was the cause of her agitated state. Because she was unconscious for two days she developed pneumonia and ended up back in the hospital. Now the story takes a turn for the Holy Crap. My friend got a call from one of her mom's friends saying the doctor was trying to reach her to sign a DNR for her mom. My friend freaked, her mom is only 67, was getting better, and the whole situation was caused by medical fuck-up not something being seriously wrong with her mom. Luckily they got it straightened out, her mom got back on the medication she needed, and is once again doing better.
My point of this story is to say that the pulling of the plug on older people is already starting. There was no reason for there to be a DNR on this woman, yet that is right where the doctor went, instead of trying to figure out what was really going on.

She set things up too easy. She brought up the 'disengaged and incurious' slams to just dismiss them without dismissing them. She brought up the very damning 'he doesn't want to hear bad news' thing.
A new thought: She actually believes that Obama is disengaged and incurious and that he punishes those who bring him bad news. She knows this because it is part of the undercurrent of talk in DC. But saying aloud what everyone is thinking will get her cast out. So ease it in, suggest it while saying it is impossible. Make it the easiest case to finish and then leap to the safe conclusion.
The idea gets set forth and she can point and say "I said I disagree," when any accuse her of heresy. And if the idea survives, it may draw others out to say the same thing.*
*And she could also be sending a big warning flare over the White House.

My other long winded ONT comment is that I read that book recommended by OregonMuse on yesterday's book thread, "Gone at 3:17." It was a very gripping book and I blew off doing useful things today because I wanted to finish it. It was an interesting read because it covered more than just the school explosion, it talked about the East Texas oil fields, the way the news story was covered, and the shocking lack of safety regulations in schools--many of those regulations were put into place after this tragedy.
Reading the book resulted in me spending time on the internet today looking at photos and then reading about other school fires and then watching a weird newsreel film by the Los Angeles Fire Department about "Our Obligation" in terms of keeping kids safe while at school. It was from the late 50s. While I am glad things are better in terms of school safety now days, it still all kind of freaked me out.

The entire state of Texas was DEMOCRAT back in the 1960's; when I was growing up it was well-known that if you were a True Texan, you pulled the "Dem" lever - anyone who spent more than a few seconds in the voting booth after the curtain closed was given a big ol' stink-eye by everyone else in the room.

Miraculously the whole crew, save one man killed by a demolition charge, were able to abandon ship and be taken into captivity. When the war ended, only 29 of the survivors had died while being POWs.

Reagan kicked off his 1980 campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi. The black community took this as an appeal to the "Southern Strategy", that is, to race. Rightly or wrongly, that's how they took it, and why blacks were much more against Reagan (at first) than against (say) Ford and Eisenhower.

Exeter's claim to fame is being the ship that crippled the Graf Spee. The six inch guns on Ajax and Achilles chewed up the German's upper works and superstructure but it was an eight inch shell from the Exeter that wrecked her fuel processor. It was the last round she fired before her last gun was put out of action--she had already turned away from the Graf Spee to put some range between them.
The Panzershiffe could have made it back to Germany with her bridge all torn up but not having clean fuel for the diesels and the boilers meant she was doomed.

Obviously liberals have to stretch to make Dallas directly responsible for JFK's murder, given that it was by a guy whose ideology was polar opposite, but there's some truth to the idea that radical ideas on both ends can thrive in a certain environment.
also reading the rhetoric against JFK and how much it mirrors certain overblown "Obama the Communist destroyer of America" rhetoric is kinda funny. Truthfully the only thing Dems are that much more liberal on today are cultural issues because a consensus existed back then that doesn't know

No boilers on a diesel ship - but yes, the Brit cruisers did some damage and the German captain feared that heavier ships were on their way. and considering what happened to the real Admiral Graf Spee in WWI wasn't an unreasonable supposition - British battlecruisers exiting Port Stanley in the Falklands and running just about every German cruiser down is not something you want to remember when you are the raider getting cornered.

If we're looking at rightist assassination attempts, Guy Fawkes is the gold standard . . . he bollixed all that up royally.
The Black Hand at Sarajevo might count, but they were arguably more proto-fascist / nationalist - we got a taste of their ideal in Milosevic.
Leftists are indeed better at murder and mayhem. Of course, more of them are drawn to murder and mayhem - so it makes sense that they get higher scores at it.

I read Arthur Scheslinger Jr.'s hagiography of RFK when I was in college. I was a dumb lib then and took it entirely at face value, because I didn't realize at the time that Scheslinger (sp) had been fellating the Kennedys for decades. I remember what he said about Rosemary: she had, sadly, "fallen behind" and had to be left with the nuns at St. Coletta's. Even then, I thought, "WTF? Fallen behind?" I just thought she was severely (naturally) retarded. I wondered why a family with the Kennedy's moola had to institutionalize one of their one, when they could afford a full-time nurse to care for her.

Because they had the rest of the phalanx behind them, pushing. Physically impossible to move to the back.<<<<
Legions normally did not fight in a phalanx. They preferred an extended line to depth. When they fought against the Greeks the tactic was to draw the phalanx across rough ground and force gaps in its front. Once the legionnaires could get into those gaps and force a melee style fight they were much better equipped for one on one combat. When the phalanx was sufficiently spread apart the Roman second line would charge and mop it up. Pydna and Cynocephelae (sp?) were the Crecy and Agincourt of the ancient world.

Though ABDA Afloat was a Frankenstein that proved it was not even the sum of its parts. HMAS Perth and USS Houston sunk for no gain. USS Marblehead should have sunk but managed to escape. Tender USS Langley sunk trying to ferry P-40s to Java. USS Edsall rescuing Langley survivors, survivors transferred to the fleet oiler Pecos, and then USS Edsall being wiped off the face of the planet after being blown out of the water by Japanese heavy cruisers - only 5 bodies were ever recovered with their skulls chopped off. HMNS light cruiser Tromp being damaged in combat and escaping to Australia for repairs. HMNS De Ruyter was sunk during the Battle of the Java Sea. USS Boise, cruiser, during the aborted raid that effectively destroyed ABDA's cruiser force struck a reef that gouged her keel and escaped first to Ceylon and then to the US for repairs.

In a way, the Catholic vote for JFK was like the black vote is for Obama. My parents thought JFK was great because he was Catholic and they both remembered when anti-Catholic prejudice was strong. And older Irish Catholics, even conservative ones, often have a tough time getting past the tribal thing.
One good thing Peggy Noonan said (she says something good maybe twice a year) is that the irony of it was that JFK had much more in common with the moneyed WASP's at Harvard than he ever had with some bartender in Southie. And of course that's also true of Obama - he knows how to play the race card, but is more like white ideologues like Ayers than he is with the homies in the projects.

For some reason I was thinking the Graf Spee had a cruising turbine in addition to the diesels-maybe it is the k cruisers I am thinking of. Regardless the prcessor cleaned the seawater out of the fuel. She had used up most of her ammo brawling with the Brits and the only had about 5-6 hours of usable fuel when they broke off and fled to the Plate. They couldn't fix the thing so no matter what was waiting breaking out to sea was going to be a death ride.

I don't know that this means anything? the "homies in the projects" as you put it can still look up to someone even if he doesn't share their exact experience. Not that you're arguing otherwise, just that you if you share religion/race/another identity with someone you can sometimes relate to them in certain ways even if it's not every way

And he was smart enough that when the war warning came he had his ships already out. The Asiatic fleet one heavy cruiser, one modern light cruiser, one old light cruiser and a bunch of WWI destroyers weren't going to do anything and Hart knew that. The ABDA thing was just throwing whatever was available into the breach and it worked as well as you would expect three navies that had no training, signals, doctrine, logistics - or really anything more serious than how to drink rum in a waterfront dive - in common. The Battle of the Java Sea only proved that they could stand together and die. The other battles proved that they could flee together or separate and die.

So, one must ask, who had a bayonet in Dallas? And didn't the Brits still bear a grudge - nay, more than one - that might have been vented upon Kennedy? His Irishness a reminder of the Easter Uprising; his Naval background a rebuke of impressment and an echo of 1812; and his Massachusetts roots the very stench of rebellion.
Plus he was hittin' Marilyn Monroe when the John Bulls was 'bout to have no more'n Twiggy.
He had to die.

Jackson's latest ruling means it is likely the Justice Department will have to produce a detailed log of what was withheld from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and why. Rounds of protracted litigation over the legitimacy of the withholdings seem all but certain, unless the sides come to an agreement which has heretofore eluded them.
"The Court is not of the opinion that its denial of the motion to dismiss involves a controlling question of law as to which there is a substantial ground for difference of opinion," she wrote in her Monday order, issued just one business day after Holder's lawyers asked for the immediate appeal. "The ruling was based upon Supreme Court precedent and Circuit precedent, and it was decided in accordance with an opinion issued by another judge of this court in a substantially similar matter.... Defendant has not pointed to any precedent that would supply the grounds for a difference of opinion."

60 year old pipes. 1 1/2 " galv horizontal pipe threaded into 3" cast iron vent stack. I've got wall open, pipe cut down to about 12" from stack, and can't get it to unthread. I've sprayed it with PB and am letting it sit.
Question is - can I heat up that cast to try to help a little? I don't want to crack it and make more work for myself.
Thanks in advance.

If the pipes are 60 years old, you've got about a 75% chance of cracking shit anyway -- don't pansy around with it. Start in the morning and do what you're going to before 10 am so you can shop around for replacement parts and still have something functional by evening.

Almost 30 years ago, I lived in an apartment complex that had its own handyman. They got him from another complex where he'd been futzing around in the walls and burned out three units. They sacked him about 3 months later after he managed to cut through about half the muscle on top of his thigh with one pass of a circular saw.
You could learn a lot from such a man, provided you maintained a safe distance.

Posted by: shredded chi at November 19, 2013 12:55 AM (1S9oZ)
Hmm, well IF I follow you right, you have a length of 1 1/2 galvanize
pipe threaded into a hub of a cast iron stack and its frozen. The thing I
used to see the plumber do if a pipe wouldn't budge, and he didn't want
to break a lead joint loose by accident was to either heat the hub to
expand it and try to unscrew the pipe, or he would cut the fucker off
flush with the hub, THEN put the sawzall blade into the leftover pipe
section that was still in the hub and would make one cut until he cut through the threads
of the leftover pipe and would stop just as the blade kissed the actual
threads of the hub itself, but was through the threads of the leftover
pipe, and then the threaded section would collapse enough to where he
could just tap it out with a chisel. Sometimes he would do 2 cuts, one
across from each other and the pieces would just fall out with a slight
tap. I used that trick myself, so it does work. Just don't don't drop
the old pieces down the stack, that would suck.
Posted by: Berserker- Dragonheads Div at November 19, 2013 01:15 AM (FMbng)
That trick is easier if you don't cut it off completely flat -- if you leave about 1" protruding, you can still sawzall the length of the stub pipe, but then put some crushing on the stub to hasten the collapsing process.

Also: cycle heat and cold a few times. I have alternated the torch with dry ice. Don't be too quick on the temperature transitions, though.
Also: alternate between loosening torque and tightening torque. This seems to do an especially good job while there's penetrating oil working its way down the threads.

How to fix rottin pipe.
Take an over sized potato and drive it inside pipe to approximately 1 foot past coupling, make sure it`s sealed, if not add `nother tater. Now drill pilot hole on tater side of coupling the size of firecracker fuse, place fuse, fill pipe with ether and quickly pound another oversized tater on your end, light fuse, standback and see what happens.

Ooooo ...let me play.
Get Thee to arbor Freight on the morrow, and examine the following items:
24" Steel Pipe Wrench Item #39645 $12.99
20" Chain Wrench Item #97073 $ 5.99
Either(or both) should be long enough to give you enough leverage to turn the pipe (or break it), strong enough to last this one effort, and cheap enough to not cry about if they break at the end.
Further, you might be able to turn out any stubs you leave in the existing plumbing.

60-year-old cast/galvanized threaded junction? That gets into scary self-electroplating weirdisms.
Although dry-icing the male pipe is an interesting concept.....that's -109 degrees, so if ambient is about 70, that should have as much effect as raising the female section to 250 degrees -- with absolutely zero chance of igniting the PB fumes (or the rest of the house).

I'd be more concerned with the zinc, being that galvanized items will "self-heal" when scratched. Seems to me that it might well "heal" into adjacent pipes.

Here's a hint: if it's inside a wall, who cares what the finish looks like? And if the original has become an outmoded pain-in-the-neck, why work so hard to keep it?

When I was a wee lad, my dad built 5 houses in quick succession that made the money that sent my sister and me through college. He'd start one, build it to where it had walls, and move us in....so they'd get painted, trimmed, carpeted, landscaped, and otherwise finished while we were trying to live there -- so this was very much a shoestring operation.
When sheeting the roof for house #3, I got really tired of the burnt wood smell when my dad was shoving his circular saw through plywood, so during lunch I insisted that he buy a new saw blade. We got back and he racked up a piece of plywood to shove the saw through.....and the blade went through it so fast that he fell forward onto the edge of the plywood and caught it in the gut pretty solidly.
It was hilarious at the time, and a nice comeuppance for all his "pooh-poohs" about buying a new blade (the old one didn't have any carbide tips left) -- but it could easily have been a serious injury. He's lucky he just got a bruise.

Ever since the day that we met...
How did i miss that comment?
Anyway - yeah, cth. I guess we've all seen too many of those close calls that are 'funny' only because they're scary. I've had a sawblade bounce off me once or twice. Also have too many scarred knuckles to mention from stupid mistakes and/or lucky misses. Surprised that new blade didn't gut your dad though.
I've seen some mistakes by 'master'electricians that would make anyone cringe. Luckily, never saw a fatal accident.
Posted by: shredded chi at November 19, 2013 03:37 AM (1S9oZ)
Well, the thing with my dad was that he had become accustomed to shoving a whirling dull blade through plywood 2" at a time, so when it went through the entire width of the sheet in one pass, the saw went right on to fall off the edge -- he's lucky it didn't end up embedded in his shoe.
And electricians......I'll do anything with wiring so long as it's cold stone dead. But when you're on the utility side of a box, you could end up like a Star Trek redshirt -- a little pile of unidentifiable ashes with a tiny wisp of smoke.
One cute little fact I learned when upgrading my home service from 100A to 200A....the drop didn't change, nor did the meter. The drop can deliver 220V at +/- 300+A, which can surely ruin your day.

I think Oswald killed Kennedy but then I don't really know. Nobody does and we never will. Key evidence was destroyed from the git-go.
1. the limo was the crime scene but Johnson had it repaired and washed.
2. the autopsy was botched. The Feds removed the body illegally to Washington D.C. where the doctors doing the autopsy were ordered how to do it.
3. Oswald was murdered. The key to the crime was killed before he talked.
4. Many witnesses have said their statements were changed when given to the Warren Commission.
Without proper gathering of evidence and proper chain of evidence, and witnesses put under oath and their statements recorded as a matter of public record, the truth escapes us.

The worms ate his brain. Shame, cause he really should have been someone's wife in prison for drowning Mary Jo, or been stood up at the stake for conspiring with the Soviets during the Reagan years.
Oh, you meant JFK...sorry, wrong Kennedy, it's kinda difficult to tell them apart. I think the only good one died in a B-17 over Europe, and that probably only because he didn't live long enough to fuck up his own legacy. That's a screwed up bunch, there.

Pretty much it.
I mean look Oswald was a fucking self-taught Communist that was born again hard enough in his evangelical zeal to defect to Worker's Paradise. Was Oswald exonerated for his attempted murder of General Walker because "uh derp DFW hate machine derp"? I have a hard enough time keeping track of shit I am actually in control of that being responsible for leftist shit ramps me up.
Yeah leftoids we get it. We controlled the commie who Killed Kennedy, we caused Obama to be a fucking drooling retard of a manager and failboat Ogabecare. It was not Kennedy's ego in taking a bad route, and Ogabe is not an ideological asshole who never even managed the Kwik-E-Freeze which was his ONLY productive job ever.
Circles within circles assholes we get it.

Oswald was a Dallas transplant so you could hardly blame Dallas for his actions. Also recall that at the time of the event Texas (and the rest of the South) was solid Democrat territory.
In short, the people blaming Dallas for the shot are full of shit.

Indeed. This charming hubris the left engages in was one of the things that led me down the path of conservatism. Their Jedi Hand Waving away Oswald's Communism taught me that literally "there are no enemies to my left" for the modern democrat.

9/11 was the first mule hysteric conspiracy cult that transcended the JFK one for Donks wishing away reality fervently.

There were eye witnesses to him entering the building with his "curtain rods".
People in the room directly below the one he was in heard him racking the bolt on the rifle and the empty cases hitting the floor.
The gun with his finger prints on it as well as pictures of him holding the gun were identified.
Witnesses saw him leaving the building without his "curtain rods".
I have also been to Dealy Plaza and looked at the distance to the street from that window. It was an easy shot. The only surprising thing is that he missed the first shot (probably buck fever). (My brother thinks it was because the first one was so close that the offset from the scope made the shot go high)
Like I said, Americans love a conspiracy and they will invent one if none exists.
Posted by: Vic at November 19, 2013 02:23 AM (FTQyq)
True, no leftest can ever be at fault so any leftest who is caught somehow morphs into a right-wing fanatic. Timothy McVeigh is another prime example. He was a neo Nazi (socialist) but they all call him right-wing.
Posted by: Vic at November 19, 2013 02:25 AM (FTQyq)
Over at Tepid you had people saying the shot was "impossible for Carlos Hathcock even..."
right Chief Hathcock couldn't have made an 89 yard or so shot against a target from 6 stories overhead.
I think LHO missed the first shot b/c of buck fever, but he walked his aim into the target just like Military trained shooters are taught.
Posted by: sven10077 at November 19, 2013 02:26 AM (9jfyN)
The media has been doing it since 1996 with EVERY newsworthy story that can't be suppressed.
The commie who flew a plane into the IRS building morphed into a Tea Partier for how long?
I suspect what happened was the Kennedy killing forced Democrats to look hard in the mirror about who they were in bed with and rather than purge the collectivists amongst them they jumped through the looking glass and snapped never to come back.
That is why they have slowly embraced the ideology of the guy who murdered JFK IMHO.
Posted by: sven10077 at November 19, 2013 02:30 AM (9jfyN)
Can I disagree just a bit with this statement? In my opinion they have only embraced in public slowly what they have always embraced totally in private.
Posted by: GMB at November 19, 2013 02:34 AM (nkPV9)
Yeah Sniper One Chief of Accurate shooting Carlos Hathcock couldn't have made the shot.
It blows my mind.
They did a test in '79 85% of military trained shooters could replicate the 66% accuracy LHO achieved.
The legends and myths that have been built up around the JFK slaying blow my mind.

Yes, I have heard all the stories about how you could not work the bolt that fast. They have all been absolutely proven wrong. They even had an amateur who had never owned a gun work the bolt on one of those Italian rifles in less time than the shooting took.
That POS Italian rifle has a short throw bolt and is a low power cartridge which results in little kick and barrel crime.

Here's my wacky JFK conspiracy theory.
Oswald did it. Alone. By himself. Solo. With no one else.
The path of the "Magic Bullet" isn't so magical when your realize Connolly was sitting lower and slightly inboard (to the left of JFK), not directly in front of him.
The "Magic Bullet" was not "pristine." It was damaged. Look at a photo of it.
And his "lucky" third shot? Highly motivated and determined people can do some remarkable things.

Remember that Oswald didn't just have a diary; he called it his "Historic Diary." And he told a fellow Marine that he wanted to do something that would be remembered for 10,000 years.
He was a screwup who had accomplished nothing in his miserable life until November 1963, and then what happened? He saw the map of the motorcade route in the paper and found that fate or history or Marx was delivering Kennedy right to him. I think that was like fate or history or Marx saying to him, "Okay, Mr. Historic Diary. Here's your chance. Are you going to do something for worldwide communism, or are you going to screw this up too? Well, what's it going to be?"
I don't think Oswald would have done anything if he'd had to ride a bus to Fort Worth, or if the closest Kennedy came in Dallas was five blocks away. As it happened, the coincidence was too much to pass up.
And for 50 years I've been wishing I could express the hatred and contempt I have for the liberals who have been blaming Dallas for the actions of a feckless communist dimwit. I'm astounded that this stupid idea won't go away.
