OK, last night we saw that pole dancing is close to becoming an Olympic sport. How about adding tank biathlon? Oh yeah, it's on. No way the Russkies kick our ass.
The newspaper offered a preview of the new sport, covering a test competition held outside Moscow earlier this week. The event involved four tanks painted in bright colors – including yellow and pinkish red – which did three laps over rough terrain, shooting at targets shaped like tanks, houses and helicopters. The best time was 5:28.

So small increases in external dimension require relatively larger increases in O2 absorption surface...or higher concentrations of O2.
A large dinosaur, like T-Rex, would probably asphyxiate at modern 20% O2 concentrations as it started to mature. It wouldn't be like a Jurassic Park T-Rex. It'd be sluggish and and not too sharp mentally...if it could survive at all.

'Bout two months after bilateral knee replacement, my aunt visited Casa de Cthulhu....so we took her up to visit Muir Woods. While just about back down to the entrance, she commented: "oh, no -- I could never walk a whole mile" -- and we got to break it to her that she'd actually walked two....we distracted her from seeing the mile marker where we turned around.

I don't know how true it is but I read once (maybe in the old National Geographic King Tut issue?) that as gold is often recycled that your ring might have a few flecks of gold in it that once were in jewellery worn by the ancients.

I would imagine it has something to do with the size and shape constraints that tanks have to deal with. Guns have no problem attaching the clip directly to the gun (you can stick it just about anywhere, really), and ships have more space to play around with. Tanks tend to be quite tight - to the point where supposedly the Soviets had height restrictions on tank crew members.

There are two kinds of birds that no other bird will mess with....at all. Not raptors, not ravens, no other bird. The first is woodpeckers -- if a woodpecker visits a bird-feeder, all the other birds find themselves busy elsewhere. Nothing (except another woodpecker) will attack a woodpecker.....there's something about "one hit can easily break a leg or wing" that just discourages 'em.
The other one, oddly enough, is hummingbirds. Being that their unique mode of flight allows them not only to hover, but also fly backwards and/or upside-down -- as well as accelerate in ways other birds can't -- they are (rightfully) considered as someone who will be behind an aggressor's head pecking at his back within milliseconds of an attack....which, btw, is why you can frequently see hummingbird nests but not other birds'.

The burglar (more properly a home invader) was in his early twenties and carrying a knife. This is not a calculus which normally works out to the advantage of a seventysomething boxer.
What did work out to the aged boxer's advantage in this specific instance was that the twentysomething knife wielder was whacked out of his head, slow and clumsy.
Against a knife guy with sober fast reflexes and some experience or training, a right cross from a skilled boxer will run straight into the defensive blade. Ouch. And will then be followed up with offensive blade work that's not easy (if at all) for a boxer to counter.
I talked with an Asian martial arts guy who said that in his particular art, there is an axiom to the effect that one blade in an untrained hand negates twenty years of unarmed practice.
Pretty much.
If I encounter a guy in my house at night with a knife, I'm not going to my boxing background. Not a chance. He's getting the twelve-bore, center of mass, with a magnum load of buckshot. He can catch that on the blade all he wants. There are more on the way if required if the first lot don't get the job done.

For those of you unaccustomed to docks, they are typically constructed with vertical posts anchored into the bottom, with the part you walk on floating between with rollers on the posts to keep it in place. That way, if the tide goes up and down four feet, the dock is still in the same place relative to the boats.
Anyway, one morning we woke up, looked out the window, and saw 8 humongous turkey vultures sitting on top of the 8 posts of the cargo dock. We were looking at each other and going, "eh, you think maybe we might not want to dive today?" -- but eventually decided that it was more likely that the supply boat would sink. Neither calamity actually occurred.

I'm thinking there needs to be software to "disappear into the mist". Since there is so much freakin' computer power out there, what it would do is use your computers to conduct RANDOM Google searches every few minutes.....and "watch" RANDOM YouTube videos, half the time going off a link that it had just "watched". What if your computer visited RANDOM blogs and RANDOMLY followed links from them?
Imagine if each computer you owned did each of these 360 times a day, every day.....then imagine if all of your friends used it, too.

Last year, mowing, I got too close to an old unused mailbox and a hornet came out to scout, and thought he'd just give me a little warning while he was there. I had just been re-arranging in the garage, so I knew there was a bottle of ammonia window cleaner right around the corner, and sprayed the sting within a few seconds.

I was first introduced to it by a Kaiser doctor who gruffly said, "it's horse liniment, but it should help" in regards to a boil, with the proviso that I should come back in two days. I had been given the old "hot compresses crap" for years at this point (I was about 14-yo).....and this gorp was just bangin'-the-gong all over the thing I had when I went back two days later -- to get a completely different doctor who insisted on lancing it anyway. Still pisses me off, if you haven't noticed. So I ended up being cut (which I hate), having an almost tattoo-like dark stain where the thing used to be, and gaining a keen appreciation for veterinary medicine.

Light pollution in this area is significant -- only about a dozen to 20 stars visible in the whole sky. Observed for about 5 minutes....saw nothing.

We have a fair amount of know-how here. Some of us are even in the habit of getting paid for our services. So lets work on the problem at your end, because cobs aren't going to stop having animated GIFs because one guy has a bad machine.
