Go away McCain. Retire or stop pretending to be a republican. This kind of behavior that McCain, Graham, King, etc. are doing reminds me of something Ellen Ripley said in Aliens.
I don't know which species is worse, Burke. You don't see them effing each other over a god damn percentage.
I'm pretty tired of republicans spending more time attacking republicans than democrats. Hell, democrats could barely bring themselves up to attack filthy Filner. That's how disciplined they are. McCain republican types? They can't wait to attack non-establishment members. And they do this for what? A higher position in what is now becoming a permanent minority party? Whatever. It's a dying party. Especially if this is what Boner's plan for the shutdown was.
1. Start a fight
2. Give up just before you win
3. Get nothing out of it
4. Look like a total fool
5. Let down your constituents
6. Reinforce the dictatorship

Damn it SMOD. This is waaaaayyyyy too late. Life on Earth could end on March 16th, 2880.
The A-10

I believe we'll find that the A-10 will end up being far more useful than the F-35 ever will be. The A-10 is the Air Force's most awesome warplane - of course the brass wants to kill it.
Animals Stealing Food
Firecrackers and Mouths

I think I would file this under the duh, no shit category. Firecrackers and mouths don't mix.
A “Yonggari event”, it seems, is where you put a firecracker in your mouth and set it off, to replicate the monster’s breath-of-flame effect. Really.
Dangers Of Being a G-Man
Ah yes, the perks of being an F.B.I. agent. Skinvestigation claim: Detective gets 130 lapdances, makes no arrests.
An attorney representing another defendant has claimed that investigatory reports show one undercover officer spent at least $16,835 buying more than 130 lap dances without making a single arrest.
The BK Black Ninja Bacon Burger

I'd give it a try but first, they need to put bacon on it, not a slab of ham. Burger King debuts 'Black Ninja Bacon Burger' in Japan.

It wasn't the poll, the poll was the cover.
It was the story of the big money donors who said they weren't getting the bang for the buck they are used to.
It was the money men that put an end to it.
They told "leadership" what was what and the folded.
It's as simple as that.

Where are they going to go? Doesn't the Searchlight Strangler give the best BJ's? Our party less the ejecta can form a liberty coalition (aka Reagan Landslide) with regular folks who understand what America can become.
What do our rejects do in The Dem.-Commie Party? They move it to the right. Ryan battles Red Betty or Crazy Alan Grayson over tax issues. Sen's. Graham and Franken collaborate on some hot Adult Diaper Baby pron.
Could Pelosi ever have been Speaker if there'd been 20 or 30 RINO's foisted on her party. Nah, prolly not.

Saw him recently in Shatner's World.

I do genetic testing and genealogy as as hobby. Well this week I figured out one of my closer genetic matches -- at about the 4th cousin level, is/was a member of the Obama administration. Campaign, transition and served in the White House, the whole bit.

I just called SMOD a false idol, a cheap cocktease, the prince of lies. Does anything happen to me? No. SMOD is a wannabe, a reject of solar objects that amounted to something, a reject from all solar systems--incapable of finding a mate, joining together, and supporting life. Now, do you see me getting struck by lightening? No.
Do you know who were also SMOD worshipers? The Ancient Egyptians. They made religious tools from iron that came from meteors. Do you know what happened to them? After thousands of years of building temples, building pyramids, and studying the solar system? They didn't die. No meteors, no mass extinction. Just a conquest by Romans and an Arab invasion.
SMOD is not here to help.
SMOD will not save you.

The original concept was based around the Douglas Missileer concept of using what became the AWG-9 radar and Eagle, later AIM-54 Phoenix, missiles [six of them] from Hughes to loiter as barrier CAP and plink the incoming Soviet threat.
Then McNamara tried for Ford style commonality by forcing the Missileer mission onto General Dynamic's TFX F-111 which as I said was designed to be a low level high speed nuclear bomber.
Then Vietnam came along and the US Navy was finding its premier MiG killer was the day fighter F-8 Crusader with cannons and AIM-9s. Not the vaunted F-4 and its AIM-7 Sparrow missiles. And the F-4s did not become MiG killers until the Ault report told Navy high command that DACM needs to be re-established. Hence Miramar started the Top Gun program and how in the closing days of Vietnam the Navy finally got an ace in an F-4.
But all these lessons were incorporated into what replaced the F-111B, the F-14. Variable geometry wing with ADC. F-111 pilots had to manually slide the 'trombone' to sweep the wings. ADC took that off the pilots shoulders. M-61 20mm gun for dog fighting. AIM-9s, AIM-7s, and AIM-54s were the missile claws. AWG-9 was carried over, kill 6 at once and track 24. Also carried over was the millstone of the F-14 program, the F-111's TF-30 turbofan barely churning out 20k lbs thrust per engine plus being stall sensitive and throwing shattered fan blades through the centerline fuel cell.

Eight years old with a flour sack cape
Tied all around his neck.
He climbed up onto the roof,
He's figuring "what the heck"
Licked his finger and checked the wind
It's gonna be do-or-die.
But he wasn't scared of nothing boy
He was pretty sure he could fly.
Well he's one of those who knows
That life is just a leap of faith.
So hold your breath and spread your wings
(And always trust your cape).

It's probably the EQ2 which I think is a Vixen clone, and isn't bad. 4.5" is plenty of aperture for quite a lot of stuff, particularly double stars, clusters, the planets and most of the planetary nebulae. Nice scope!

Except Betelgeuse won't go hypernova. It will go supernova but it isn't massive enough (with it's strong stellar winds) to form a black hole. Neutron star, sure. But for full-on destruction, gotta get a GRB.

In about 10x a googol years, when the last photons denature, and nothing is left to decay, the heat death of the universe will be complete, time will stop, and entropy will hit 0.
We live in a universe of failure.

Is that the Permian and Ordivician? Devonian? The Vendian? The Permian was supposed to have been one that occured over a long time in 2 or 3 waves of extinction conditions. The end Permian might have been the knockout blow, though. With the earlier ones, it's entirely possible that a burst caused them. What's your opinion on the Permian re burst as culprit? It could actually be the case... but, there's a few potential suspects. My shit's old and probably out of date.

1. The media will never EVER be your friend or like you. Ever. Unless you cave.
2.Assume every media opportunity will be an ambush. You'll be outnumbered or sandbagged. Prepare accordingly.
3. Go on the offensive. Reject the premise of every question. Challenge every assumption. Question their motives and the validity of their sources. Talk over them. Talk over the Dems. Learn to say "Let me finish." Use visual aids. Answer their questions with questions.
I wish Pubs would do opposition research on the interviewees on broadcast interviews. I wish Pubs would never ever let the media take their own pictures, and I wish Pubs would never ever consent to an extended broadcast interview without insisting that they have their own crew taping the entire interview.

I think the terrestrial source is pretty much confirmed. The interruption of thermohaline circulation in the oceans created anoxic conditions which created a cascading series of disasters. The eruption of the Siberian Traps and the existence of Pangaea all contributed to create the perfect storm for the worst extinction event in the history of life on earth.

While watching MV a while back, I had forgotten how many future stars were on that show. The future Al Bundy, Edward J. Olmos (though he had been in a few movies, (Bladerunner and Wolfen if I recall)), the late great Denis Farina, Pam Grier, Giancarlo Esposito, and on and on. I also forgot how hot Sheena Easton was. And that Cuban chick who was a regular on the show.

The Republicans do not want to try.
They want to appear on the Sunday shows, talking about compromise, and moderation, and how much they love Obama.
November 2014 is going to be a huge blow-out. For the Democrats. They'll win it all, because they deliver what the promise to their base.
The Republicans deliver nothing, to anyone. Except, perhaps, those who scream how important the "moderates" are.
"We'll never cut welfare! We'll never make the Leech Class work! We'll do everything the Democrats say they'll do...but...we're not Democrats!"
Makes me want to vote for the Dems. They probably store all that info anyway, might as well be on the winning side, right?

The F-35 is supposed to be the Swiss Army knife of fighters. In the era of McNamara they tried that with a USAF program called TFX. McNamara and his Whiz Kids decreed that a concurrent US Navy quest for a fleet interceptor be rolled into the TFX requirements. Grumman got saddled with turning a low altitude high speed nuclear bomber into a fleet interceptor. It did not go well. The US Navy F-111B had very little commonality with its USAF counterparts which also had hardly any commonality between them - F-111A, FB-111A, F-111D, F-111E, and F-111F.
Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at October 11, 2013 10:30 PM (XrBCE)
Even if the F35 does everything that it's supposed to (it won't), it won't be used for much CAS duty. Too dirty, too much risk of losing extremely expensive aircraft to cheap AAA fire.
Plus, the very real possibility that the pilots will dump their ordnance early so they can go up to altitude to play fighter ace. That was one of the arguments when the AF tried to replace the 'hogs with F16s back in the late 80s.
Time to amend or rescind the Key West Agreement.

My moonbat brother keeps pointing to Cali as a Dem success story. He buys all the bullshit about Brown "balancing the budget", why they even have a surplus. As usual, I tried to point out the facts and they are all RW talking points, blah blah blah. He insists that the reason why CA is doing so well is that they raised taxes on the rich and kicked out the Tea Partiers (as if they really ever had any.)

I've told this A10 story before, but back when I was wearing BDUs, we were out on a live fire exercise and I was on a detail putting targets up on a mountain we were going to "assault". The whole top of the hill was solid granite, great view of the surrounding area in the waning light of evening.
Next day, the battalion moves out and we can see the mountain in the distance. For about 4 miles of walking, we watched the Warthogs pound the living shit out of the hill before we assaulted.
By the time we got to the top, the solid granite mountain was....... dirt. And it looked like a giant golf ball, with cantelope sized divots for hundreds of yards in every direction. Not one square inch of the mountain was untouched.
Sobering. And fucking awesome.

Our star looks like a bad makeup effect. He likes pictures of Rottweilers sniffing each other's posteriors. A happy face bus passes his car and drives...um, behind his car, and parks. So there were two little German cars. Parked on the same road. Hey, it could happen! I'm just sayin'.
The bus parked because the driver needed to defecate, and, apparently, in Germany the buses have no facilities and there are no "Rest Areas" when you're fond fond fond auf the autobahn. Our star took advantage of this knowledge and shot the bus driver, and then we cut to a hotel. You can tell it's a hotel because it has a giant neon sign saying "HOTEL."
Inside the hotel, two attractive women are on the phone, talking to loved ones. They're going to a party thrown by a waiter. Hey, it could happen!
Cut: these two women are driving in their sporty rental car, trying to find the promised party. They have no idea where they are supposed to be going, only that an awesome party is in the offing. Oops, a tire is blown. I'm betting there's no cell service.
Yeah, I won that bet, but it was an easy bet.
The women fret. You know, OMG, OMG, OMG. They admit how useless the both are in this particular situation.
I'm going to stop for tonight, because I'd rather off myself than find myself one morning with razor-weilding AoSHQ cuties...no, that sounds better, really. Hey cuties come and kill me!
Goodnight, folks. Maybe alcohol poisoning is a thing and you'll never know how "The Human Centipede" plays out. Hey, it could happen!

Air Force general: "Oh no you don't! That's our mission, exclusively!"</i>

Anyway, a couple of scientists get curious about the restrictions on the time viewing tech. It doesn't add up. They glean every detail they can about the hardware and figure out enough of the theory to build their own. In the process they discover the machine is far less costly than claimed and there is no minimum duration into the past that is required. You can see anything, anywhere, within a second of its occurrence. The story concludes with a government agent deciding not to arrest them because they've already sent copies of the plans to numerous places where anyone can find them and build their own time viewer. He congratulates them on likely having destroyed civilization as there is no longer any vestige of privacy possible.
Yeah, it would be a problem for things like businesses planning new products and things like that. And some people would likely go insane and obsessively watch others to the exclusion of having any life for themselves. But one thing is really appealing about the fantasy. I'd really like to know what those in charge say among themselves about where this is going. Is Obama really seeking to create a doomed to fail utopia?
Actually, it's all too easy to understand what kind of fantasies the left has embraced to march all of us to hell. What I'd really like to know is what those supposedly on the right think this is all leading to. Does Boehner understand how interest works and that the numbers go critical well within his lifetime? Does Ryan really think he's going to lead a comfortable retirement in a bunker somewhere? Why is the GOP so reluctant to lay out for the electorate just how bad things will get if we don't change course in a big way very soon? The left has no problem getting people to buy utter nonsense about climate change but we can't get the word out despite having, you know, FACTS underlying the message? That this is a genuine problem and not just an arbitrary stance to take as a member of the opposing party?
It would be really great to know what those purporting to lead really believe. There would be a lot of shocks for everyone but after the dust settles maybe something can be done to stop digging the hole deeper and maybe even step out of it at some point.

I fully embrace entropy, but even it tooshall fail us.
In about 10x a googol years, when the last photons denature, and nothing is left to decay, the heat death of the universe will be complete, time will stop, and entropy will hit 0.
We live in a universe of failure.

Why can't the GOP/conservatives sway people with facts? I've become convinced that the "masses" just don't give a shit. They think that we're just crying wolf for kicks. We've been hollering about the deficit, the debt, how bad Zerocare is, sustainability, etc...rhe Dems, Rinos, and the MFM paint us as cranks. The golden goose can never die! The NFL is on every Sunday, Miley is twerking, Snooki is saying something stupid. Squirrels abound. What are those crazy Tea Party people talking about?
This is why we lost the chance to kill Zerocare in the crib. People are saying "Oh, they'll turn on it when they feel the pain". We also thought that $3.50+ gas prices would be intolerable, skyrocketing utility bills would change minds, food price increases, etc...people shrug and continue existing in the new normal. The frog is boiling, but he's entertained so he doesn't care.
I'm on my 13th beer, btw, so that may explain my blathering.

It means there will be no more energy that is available to do work.
Life is anti-entropic only locally. The drop in entropy made so by life on Earth is made possible by energy from the Sun. The increase in entropy due to the Sun burning hydrogen far outweighs the decrease in entropy due to life.
The entropy level in the Universe is always approaching a maximum and has no effect on that.

Dude, you just don't know....the fact that I've outsourced the backend cleanup of this stuff helps me immensely -- after recovering data and erasing, I was going to go all nutso on purging the disks and reinstalling OSs and trying to deal with drivers and.....I don't think I even erased half the disks. You probably have four copies of prior versions of my music collection. But I trust you as a fellow moron to do all the crap I didn't have time for (or just put a .22 through the platters) -- which doubles the time available for salvage on the other 12 systems I need out. The only thing I'm even slightly nervous about is the other VAIO, because it's such a peculiar little beastie.

Y'know what -- DO freak out. Point out that end sequester, end shutdown, cave debt ceiling, and fund Obamacare is 0 for 4. Zero for Four. Not a fig leaf, not a compromise, not a grand bargain, not a single fucking reason to be Republican, vote Republican, support Republican, or fund Republican -- or consider them a credible alternative to full-on Proggie leftists. Say it loud, say it often, say it firmly. And, likewise, say -- we have been reluctantly giving you the benefit of the doubt while you supported Cruz....and a backstab like this rumor ever coming to pass will end that.
Even if the rumor is 180 degrees wrong and sanity prevails on every one of those four counts, it sends a worthy message that our support isn't unconditional and that policy matters.

Or is there one standard for the Ivy League Senator with the great speaking voice, the safe seat, and no management experience, and another for everyone else? Oh, crap, the rumors are true: Cruz is just a GOP Obama, cult following and all!

A very well sex symbol is having sex in a crowded club and nobody recognized her and was willing to come forward to corroborate the claims? No other woman involved with Ryan had any similar accounts?
