More Modern Christmas Songs

Shamelessly stolen from previous years here, here, and here. And now including the Dropkick Murphy's ode to Christmas family celebrations.

Ah the old passing out into the Xmas dinner - a classic scene from my childhood that we can mostly all laugh about now. Good times, good times. And just remember that your tatted-up borderline mentally-challenged cousin-in-laws tend to be short-burning candles so enjoy their antics while you can.

14 In the all-too-familiar pattern, Washington now seizes on the problems caused by its own poor policies as the basis for grabbing more power with which it can craft new bad policies that will lead to more problems. Indeed, as noted below, the new mortgage financing rules actually double-down on “diversity” policies similar to those that helped produce the financial crisis.

At the heart of the new regulation is a requirement that lenders ensure that borrowers have the “ability to repay” a mortgage. Borrowers will now have the right to sue lenders for misjudging their financial fitness. Borrowers may also assert a violation of the ability-to-repay requirement as a defense against foreclosure, even if the original lender has sold the mortgage or assigned it to a servicing firm.

The impact of this new scheme is obvious. As Katz says, it “will raise the costs and risks of mortgage lending” and thereby result in less credit availability.

Dodd–Frank Act does offer a “safe harbor” that reduces (but does not eliminate) the prospect of litigation for lenders who meet certain mortgage criteria, such as loan limits, fee caps, and prescribed payment calculations. The existence of the safe harbor for protected classes of loans might well mean the virtual demise of other types of loans.

Posted by: shredded chi, the young curmudgeon at December 23, 2013 10:19 PM (5vAso) Reminds me of a clever tactic by Israeli counter terrorist operatives. They put some C4 and an electronic tone decoder into a public pay phone known to be used by a terrorist they particularly wanted to kill. From time to time they would call the number. If someone answered who was not him, they hung up. When he finally answered, they pushed a button on the telephone and the C4 blew his head off. Neat, huh? It was the remark about the ACLU types that made me think of this.

38 Hey all! I've got a story for you from this morning. My oldest stepson's female friend who works as a bartender at his brewery is putting together a food truck serving Asian food. She is going to work the truck with another girlfriend of hers. Cue the "two girls one truck" jokes! Anyhow, this is the same girl that I'm pretty sure he's trying his darnedest to hook up with. I told you the story of how he watched her dog for two weeks while she went back to Taiwan to visit her relatives. FOR FREE!!!! Probably because she has the pointy elbows. They have a FB and Kickstarter page. https://www.facebook.com/DumpPhoKingTruck http://dumpphokingtruck.com The "friend" is the one wearing the denim jacket in the video. Oh yeah, be sure to watch the video! I'm fairly certain my stepson has MANY MANY TIMES.

But images of urban environments resulted in a significant delay in reaction, before a part of the brain involved in processing visual complexity swung into action as the viewer tried to work out what they were seeing.” More: http://politicalhat.com/?p=4430

My parents took my sister, myself, and friends into town to carol for several years and I decided it was passed time my kids get to do so. It was tough going at first with the "meh" responses but, after we got to the houses of those who appreciated the singing, it got a lot easier for the kids to have fun too.

A&E has developed a raging case of Duck Dysentery.  They're shitting viewers out at a firehose rate.

On the other hand, GLADD has proposed a replacement show.  Dick Dynasty, filmed entirely on-site in San Francisco, CA.

Gimmick is, one dude's wanker quacks like a duck when it's blown.  Word is, Andrew Sullivan is cast in the starring role.

All kidding aside, I'd love to see Fox (entertainment, not news channel), pic up the show.  That'd be at least one quality bit of programming squeezing out some other inferior dreck in their primetime lineup, and it'd greatly bolster the Fox image along the way.

In the checkout aisle, a young boy is ahead of him, wishing to purchase a pair of expensive shoes for his terminally ill mother, explaining to the cashier that he hasn't much time remaining before she finally succumbs to the undisclosed illness and that he wants her to appear presentable before Jesus. However, he lacks enough money to pay for the shoes. The narrator ends up paying for the shoes, to the boy's delight. The song closes on the note that the experience has permanently changed the narrator, reflecting on the true meaning of the Christmas season.

173 There may or may not be a way to accomplish it. I don't know what contracts were signed, and a lot would depend on those details. Posted by: D-Lamp at December 23, 2013 11:00 PM (bb5+k) There's probably a noncompete. A&E likely owns the "Duck Dynasty" name/franchise. Sign with another company. Wait out the noncompete. Change the name of the show. Advertise and push the debut of the new show. The commercials are easy. Show someone from the waist down, in camo, sitting in a blind. Duck call blows. Fade in text. Something like "they're comingÂ…"

Posted by: AltonJackson at December 23, 2013 11:04 PM (JMmQ9) I have read articles to the effect that his vaunted "Genius" is the result of Soviet Propaganda more so than actual fact. The AK-47 was supposedly designed as a result of a contest to produce the next generation of Soviet Army rifle. There were numerous entries, but as the Soviets always do, they wanted to make a political statement. What I read is that Kalashnikov was the sort of fellow they wanted to win, and they quietly combined several ideas of other gun makers to produce the final product, and then they declared that *HE* was the brilliant man behind the entire design. Medals and money thereafter rewarded as appropriate of a Soviet Design genius.

If I were king there are some places the photographers would not be allowed to go, and the Royal Can would be one of those places. I might want to get my freak on in the bath with Her Majesty, and having the Royal Heir there is detriment enough without having some fluttershy snapping photos of my white pasty ass. There are some things up with which I shall not put, after all.

Posted by: D-Lamp at December 23, 2013 11:13 PM (bb5+k)

I'm not saying it isn't true, but that strikes me as kind of odd. Since the Soviet Communists were collectivists, it seems to me that they would be more likely to praise a collaborative design, rather then credit a single individual genius.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the man was being chased by Border Patrol around 1 a.m., when he ran across Highway 77 and was hit by a tractor trailer. The truck hit the man then ran him over. Meanwhile, there's no word on who the man is or where he is from. Border Patrol is now trying to identify the man. We're told the driver of the truck won't be ticketed.

The wife had it done 14 years ago. She had one of the top dudes at the time do it. The dude pulled nothing short of a miracle on her. She was pretty frigging blind before she had it done. Should could not recognize who a person was 20 feet away without her contacts, and she couldn't drive without them. When I was driving her home from the procedure I was testing her since I can see like a hawk. She was reading license plates on cars 3-4 cars ahead of us. We stopped at  McDonalds on the way home, and was was reading the fucking menu board at the drive thru from 20-30 feet away, and this was with those frigging clear plastic protectors she had on. Was truly amazing. She had glasses or contacts her whole life, was blind without them, and then in one shot she had almost perfect vision.

"Last week I was reading Mark Twain's "The Awful German Language" to my teenaged granddaughter."

That's a great essay. Twain had a good time smacking the Europeans around. I remember a story about him conversing with a French snob, who said "Many Americans don't even know who their grandfathers were." Twain replied, "And many French don't know who their fathers were."

Lasik, or any other eye surgery.

Hold off, and find the OPTHAMOLOGIST who works with your nearest Major League Baseball team.  No other sport demands as much in terms of visual acuity, resolution and optical flexibility as does baseball at the professional level.

The eye doc that the team uses will be the best of the best, for a radius of hundreds of miles.

He or she won't be cheap, but will be the best.  And that whole "cheap" thing....who in the F*CK goes CHEAP when it comes to getting slices on the Mk I eyeball?

And yes....find an OPTHOMOLOGIST...........not some mere optometrist.  The former is the Medical Doctor of the eyeball, and the latter is the Registered Nurse of the profession.

I've got a huge degree of respect for R.N.s, but I WANT a board certified cardiologist doing my bypass when my primary pump packs up!  Same for the Mk. I, Mod 0 eyeball.  Only the best will do.

Great. I not only have to worry about a cinnamon shortage, I also need to start hoarding the sriracha chili sauce made by Huy Fong Foods. I was reading in the WSJ last week that the State of California is screwing with this company, laying all sorts of regulations on it and it might have to shut down for a while and revamp its' factory in order to comply. It's a rags-to-riches story - the company was founded by a Vietnamese emigrant, was the first sriracha sauce to hit the national market, and of course, the lib pols in Sacramento hate that sort of success and have to do what they can to destroy it.

Other companies now make it, but I like the original the best.

466 Good evening again all! I'm back at the USO with the wife, volunteering for an all-nighter shift. The call came in without warning and my wife had elected to be on call for overnights, but this was kind of last minute because they are supposed to give you at least a day's notice. She was going to be the only one here tonight, so I felt it would be best if I tagged along again to help her. You should see it here. Not a square inch of floor space is unoccupied. There are sleeping bodies everywhere, along with their gear. We came up with a system to stick Post It notes on them with their wake up times, so we can find them and identify the ones who need to be up again a certain time. We don't want them to miss a flight, especially not this close to Christmas. That would suck. Anyhow, I think this is going to be my first all night ONT! You guys are stuck with me until 7AM.

467 No, sorry. My writings skills are in the toilet- more so this evening than usual. The grandfather committed suicide on Christmas eve. His granddaughter did it 40 years later.so the pastor would then visit the family every Christmas Eve after that to say "How is everybody doing?" How are you all feeling?" so that nobody else got the idea to commit suicide on Christmas Eve.

I never did contacts, have similar problems with eyedrops, and I'm so phobic about needles that I've had two crowns done without anesthetic. I was initially going to do each eye separately with a month in-between because I'm paranoid, but at the last minute I went with both because wandering around wearing glasses with only one lens in them was going to be problematic. It went fine.

I actually get compliments in eye exams. there's a certain amount of corneal scarring that is inevitable with the procedure, and with mine, they have to adjust their lighting to see it 'cause it's so faint.

I've heard of that, and I've experienced a bit of it myself, but I'm not sure it's really a LASIK thing. For one thing, I wear sunglasses frequently now -- but I used to wear photogray-extra auto-darkening glasses all the time. And for another thing, let's say someone was shining a bright light in your face before LASIK and without glasses.....this would end up with a big blob of unfocused light at the back of your eyeball, so all of your retina cells would be going, "meh, it's not all that bright." Whereas now, you get the light shined in your eyes and you can practically read the brand of the light bulb, you're focused that well, and the (fewer) retina cells that are getting all the light that used to spread out more are going, "holy crap, can you take it down a notch?"

511 >> Ever since I had my procedure done, I find myself being very sensitive to bright lights, especially at night.

I know that I am much more sensitive to this as I age. I used to love to drive all night; I planned my trips to get in a bunch of night driving. Now, not so much.

Plus what cthulhu says at 503 makes sense too.

And Happy Bday to Blanco Basura.

512 Lemme guess, you missed out on the manger thing, too.

Only by a day.  There's a relative that's got that day covered, and another on the day after that.

Happy Birthday!!!

Thanks!

Aw, look at the bright side of things -- they were fixin' to steal the young invincible's money to pay for your healthcare. How can you fault the government if you're on the list to get swag?

515 Happy bday Blanco! I bet you felt cheated out on presents when you were young huh?

Only one year did I complain, and was told that it wasn't a good idea to do so.  Papa Basura was a bit more colorful in his phrasing.

We eventually came to an understanding.  I didn't complain, and they didn't try to sell me off to slavers in Tijuana.

Truly nothing can compare to the memories of those magical years.

I'm not on that list.  Check the other list.  Or was it the third list?  Whichever one has the IPAB "pre-denied" stamps all over it.  That's the list I'm on.

And then, of course, the opportunities for mischief. When I first had it done, I'd wake up in the morning, snuggle up to the BH, wait until I knew she was awake, and feign acute surprise when I opened my eyes.

While she grumbled about it at the time, she did a roast for my 50th birthday (she's in Toastmasters) and she used that joke in her speech, with an intentionally out-of-focus picture of her from the viewpoint of someone on a bed.

If youÂ’re lucky enough to be spending Christmas in Hawaii this year but unlucky enough to be staying near the Obamas, watch out. The water might look fine, but you could face a fine of $40,000 and up to 10 years in prison for entering the waters of Kailua Bay.

The Coast Guard has declared the bay a security zone until January 5, when the Obamas pack up and head home. WeÂ’re all for keeping the first family safe, but Â… $40,000?

For another thing, what is the "item" repeatedly referred-to in the chorus? 'Cause my best reading of the lyrics has it as functionally equivalent to "the jack-shit that I've got in abundance. So, the whole basis of the hockey stick is just bullshit.  Tree ring cores from a few trees in AZ?CO  (that are so friggin irregularly shaped that no one knows where the pith can be found anyway) can tell you the history of temperatures all over the world as long as one tortures the statistics until they confess.

565 I was reading an earlier post by Ace where he mentioned that people sometimes ask him to cut back on the use of the word "retard".  Over the weekend I watched "It's A Wonderful Life" for the I don't know how many ith time and it occurred to me that Uncle Billy, the one who accidentally hands Mr.Potter an envelope with $8000 cash causing George Bailey to face the possibility of prison and triggering his crisis of faith, is mentally retarded.  There is another character working at the Savings and Loan (Elwood? Elmore?) who also seems to be abnormally mentally slow.

While I think that it is a good thing for people with mental challenges to be stocking shelves at Wal Mart, I think that it is a different matter for them to be working as executives at financial institutions.  Uncle Billy had his own office so I assume that he had at least an executive title.  OK, it's a family business so I can see why they keep him on but why trust him with that kind of responsibility?  He might trade the money for some magic beans if he runs into some charlatan on the way to the bank.  And why are they depositing their cash in Mr.Potter's bank anyway?  They have a safe in their office.  They are a financial institution themselves and, presumably in the business of lending out money.

585 Santa chocolate ad was made by a Dutch ad firm to promote Alzheimer awareness--it was not an evil chocolate company recycling old Easter bunnies for stickin' Capitalist profits! Tag line says it's what Alzheimer patients experience everyday. Whatever that means.

591 Greetin's and salutin's, Horde-like pipple. This is the first day in two weeks I've felt normal. Whee! The life-sized Navy Seal (complete with scuba gear) who's been swimming around in my chestal cavity is finally gone. For that, I'm grateful. I want to once again extend the very best Christmas Wishes to the Horde, each and every one. I love you guys and gals.

594 Starting the day out laughing at Santa Bunny before heading out 110 miles to pick up No 1 son at the airport from Nu Yawk City is good. No 2 son is already here and up and eating all the food. And baby girl has to work til 2 because she is "low man on the totem poll" thus will drive like a bat out hell from Austin. And tamales for supper. Life is good.
