Welcome to Cuba Comrade!

cartel150512.jpg

In which Michael Totten journeys to Cuba to see first-hand what it's like. Read the whole thing.

What struck me most while walking around Havana for the first time is how dead and quiet it is. This was unexpected, though in hindsight I should have known. Where has communism ever been lively?

...But Havana's establishments are not closed. There just aren't very many of them. You cannot go shopping. There's nothing to buy. If you had millions of dollars, you would not be able to spend it. The city would be horrifying if were in a cold climate with dismal architecture like much of the former Soviet Union, but it didn't strike me as horrifying. It's just static. And vaguely post-apocalyptic.
Next to the front door of one CDR office I saw the image of a faceless man wielding a sword above the words "Always in combat."

Always in combat against whom, you might ask?

The neighbors.

"The surveillance and denunciation system is so rigorous," Fontaine writes, "that family intimacy is almost nonexistent."

Family intimacy is almost nonexistent.

Aside from the slave labor camps and the staggering body counts, I can think of no more devastating an indictment of totalitarian government than that sentence. Something broke inside me when I read it.

I certainly wasn't intimate with anybody in Cuba-and I don't mean physically any more than Fontaine did. I had to lie by omission every minute of every hour of every day just like the Cubans. A person could get used to this sort of thing, I suppose, but that does not make it less alienating. That's the counterintuitive thing about totalitarian systems. They herd people into Borg-like collectives, yet every individual is savagely atomized.

I never felt so alone in my life.

Obama: Our Racist President

In which Aaron Worthing lays out the evidence that Obama is not only anti-white but is in fact racist against everyone who isn't black.

Next up we have the sermon by Reverend Wright, where he says:
"It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks' greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere. That's the world! On which hope sits!"

(emphasis added.)  As though the only greedy people in the world are white.  But Aaron-you might protest-how do you know Obama even heard this sermon?

Well, because it was quoted in Obama's first book, "Dreams of My Father," and the title of this sermon, "The Audacity of Hope," became the title of Obama's second book.  (Source.)

California: Hey Let's Give Free Green Cars to the Poor

Well the rich are already getting subsidies to buy their green cars. And what's a few more billion before the music finally stops?

A new bill would up the minimum voucher to $2,500, and does not cap the upper limit for such vouchers. The CARB has even implied that it could sponsor the full purchase of an $18,000 for families of three looking to pick up a hybrid. Stanley Young, spokesman for the Air Resources Board, said that California should "make sure low-income people can also get into these clean vehicles."

50 SpaceX successfully launched the SES-8 communications satellite earlier this evening. It was a perfect launch after a couple of scrubs last week. It was their first launch to geosynchronous transfer orbit. Here is the full video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqpfiWndz0Q#t=26 The first 20 minutes of the YouTube video is nothing but techno music, which is fine as far as it goes, but you might want to skip ahead. After that, it's as exciting as an unmanned satellite launch ever gets. The website NASASpaceflight.com set a record for most viewers online, which shattered the previous record set during the last Space Shuttle launch in 2011. That's pretty amazing in and of itself. I've said it before, there is nothing like a SpaceX launch.

The primary industry in Haiti is Christian Missions. Go to the Miami airport any day of the week and you can watch multiple planes per day shuttle to/from PAP. The first thing you will quickly notice is that approximately half of the passengers on most of these planes are on missions trips. (Easily spotted by the matching t-shirts for each group.) The second thing you will notice is that it is exceedingly rare to see a non-white member in any of these missions groups.

101 Everyday Ways for Men to Be Allies to Women
Basically, be really, really liberal.  Some of them are OK (and more along the lines of "being a gentleman), some are really dumb and some are just head-smackingly dumb.

Here's a small taste, but I can't begin to adequately sum up the irritating, hyper-liberal male-feminist tone:
3. Recognize that your male privilege (among other privileges) may in fact blind you to othersÂ’ experiences.
18. Be pro-choice.
21. Read websites like Feministing, Colorlines, Jezebel, etc. for your news sources.
Notice AOSHQ isn't listed.

23. Acknowledge the lived experiences of women and LGBT-identified people.
As a male ally, you should never assume or speak on behalf of women and the LGBT community. Your job is to listen and to acknowledge what members of these groups are telling you about their lives. Being an ally to one community carries the responsibility to be an ally towards other communities like the LGBT community.
24. Support same-sex marriage. Given.
28. Journal daily and reflect on your behaviors, thoughts, ideas, etc.
39. Redefine your masculinity in a pro-feminist way.
48. Men arenÂ’t the only ones who have orgasms. Remember that!!!

Oh, now he's just making shit up!
It gets even crazier towards the end.  I read it in the voice of the prissy, hippie teacher from King of the Hill

97 SWEDEN - A man serving a one-month sentence for an unspecified crime, busted out of the minimum security Östragård facility in the municipality of Vanersborg in south-western Sweden...because of a toothache. The 51-year-old jailbird told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper, "my whole face was swollen. I just couldn't stand it any more." He reportedly asked for medical care for the pain but was denied and that's when he hatched the plan for the bold escape. He busted out and headed to the nearest dentist who extracted the inflamed tooth. The man then turned himself into police who took him back to prison. Upon his return, the man was given a warning and his sentence was extended by one day. ??? Hum?

166 Last year I read the memoir of a girl who grew up in the Czech Republic and without putting into words, it was clear from her childhood that family intimacy was almost nonexistent, even among immediate family, and definitely among extended family.  After the collapse of communism she went to the US and married an American.  When she took him home to meet her parents she wanted to have a family reunion with her extended family, but nobody in the Czech Republic knew what that was.  The intentional destruction of the family is one of the great evils of communism.

173 #113: I read somewhere (Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism, I think) that Mussolini really didn't want to join the Axis; he wanted to be with the Allies because he loved America. He only joined the Axis because Hitler blitzkrieged and vichied his ass.

The people of Italy didn't like the choice he'd made any more than he did, and that's why he found himself swinging from a lamppost at the end of the war. On the upside, his brand of fascism was thoroughly discredited there in the process.

On the downside, some of his ideas survived. For example, he talked about how his ideas were a "third way", between the extremes of socialism and capitalism. If you've ever heard a full-on leftist claim to be a middle-of-the-road moderate, I'm pretty sure that claim originated with Mussolini.

that which our country was founded on still endures.

Even if what we know as America seems to disappear, generations from now,it will rise again.  You cannot hide or suppress the idea forever.

As Americans--not just people living here--we MUST NOT forget that.

NEVER be ashamed of your country--the shame falls on those who would harm her.

Germany did not want Italy in the war due to its lack of preparation and stunning waste of resources in Ethiopia and Spain. Italy was more useful for Germany as a gray market for strategic goods. For instance, Germany could not get oil from the US after September 1939 but Italy still could. Mussolini joined because he thought the war was almost over and Britain was about to collapse. Basically he wanted a seat at the big boy table. I'm sure there's a contemporary metaphor about the Obama administration somewhere.

257 You don't need to soak your bird to brine it. You can dry brine to get the same juicy effect. We did that for our Thanksgiving Day bird, and it was wonderful. As for the topics of the ONT: Isolating people under totalitarianism: has anyone considered that's why obamacare costs married couples more than singles? They're trying to break up families. The left has been attacking the nuclear family unit for decades now here in the US, and they're only starting to really ramp things up now.

328 Isolating people under totalitarianism: has anyone considered that's why obamacare costs married couples more than singles? They're trying to break up families. The left has been attacking the nuclear family unit for decades now here in the US, and they're only starting to really ramp things up now. Posted by: elaine at December 03, 2013 11:53 PM (GNZ0/) ___________ It's not Obmacare that does this. It's welfare in general. A married couple making $X will get less welfare than 2 single people making $1/2X. Taxes used to be like this as well. Remember the marriage penalty? Bush got rid of that for the most part. But it's still there in many ways when it comes to deduction limits. Two single people making $75K each are better off than a married couple making $150K each when it comes to deductions available to them.

331 Good stuff by Totten on Cuba. My mother is Cuban and still has family there. My mother hasn't gone back herself but she has a sister, long since a citizen of Spain, who has gone a few times. The relatives are ice cold and want nothing to do with foreigners in general and "gusanos" (former Cubans) in particular. Too dangerous --- and as Totten said, the paranoia becomes a regular mindset. The braver and more enterprising ones WILL take black market goods, however. They smile and schmooze but are just out for numero uno. Socialism builds love and fraternity!!!

350 Way late to this party, and just read Ace's earlier post "Obama: Hey America, Suck My Dick", and it occurs to me that everything Obama has done since about 20 minutes after he was inaugurated is explained by the probable fact that his whole life people have been telling him "dude, just wait until you're in power, you'll totally be the 'deus ex machina' who'll solve everything!"

And then the first crisis came along, and the second, and the third, and Obama waited for himself to solve the problems brilliantly as he had always been told he would, and of course nothing happened.

Or, everything is explained by the fact that he is a fucking arrogant asshole with an IQ of 65.

His reporting is so straight forward, factual, and better researched than anything in the MSM its hard to actually discern his political leanings from it most of the time.

The last 8 years or so he seems to have softened on the liberalism some.  Bouncing around the shitholes of the world will do that to you.

The first step was taking the stigma out of divorce. And that has to go back 40+ years.

Just like they are now doing to Health insurance. Nulling contracts makes you a slave to the state to get special dispensations from the state.

Basically some guy was looking into insurance, since he and his wife are self-employed and purchase it on the individual market. He was told their 18-month-old baby wouldn't be included on the policy with parents and their three other children. Baby's policy premium would be anywhere between low $100 and nearly $400 per month. That's in addition to the family policy, which I think he said would cost near a grand a month. Two policies, I would think, means two deductibles to meet. Right?

Posted by: Angel with a sword at December 03, 2013 11:44 PM (hpgw1)

Well, that you won't find in Cuba. Ford didn't make their 289 until 1964; you would have found a Y-block 292 or 312 in that Fairlane, originally. And since Cuba went commie in 1960, wasn't it, there won't be any American iron there newer than that. Having talked to Canadians who visited Cuba, all those old American cars, or most of them, at any rate, have been re-powered several times with Russian tractor engines and the like, and the rusted-out bodies repeatedly filled with body filler, and sanded smooth and painted. I'd say damn few of the American cars seen on Cuban streets would be worth much to a serious collector in the USA. Because they have been driven to death and mended so many times. But old Fidel may have some nice low-milers in his garage.

405 There will be no relief for you in this post. But Parents go through this all the time with the death of a child. We try our best to protect them but we can't put them in in a bubble we control completely. and sometimes the lessons we teach aren't enough.

I have a story about my parents and my oldest Brother. But I will never know that pain since both my kids are still here. Can't help but I kinda get the pain.

Posted by: The Hickster at December 04, 2013 12:49 AM (DUGve)

I hear you, brother.  It just boils down to:  You're responsible for them, regardless of how stupid they act.  It's a tough dynamic.  As an NCO, you think of all your troops kinda like they're your kids, it's natural.  Closer, I think, than the officers do.

More of a mother hen thing.  I was always protective of my troops... even when they went sideways (bar fights, et, al, infinitum).  I always was there for them... midnight calls: "Sgt! my wife threw me out!"  me:  "ok, shithead, crash at my place then fix it in the morning or I'll PT you until your eyeballs bleed."  and so on....

406 Two term president Barack Obama is undeniable proof that anyone can be president. Posted by: Let me be clear at December 04, 2013 12:47 AM (GihMY) It is a sad day in The United States when a person this unqualified can be elected president twice. Thanks LIVs. I do not usually wish harm on others, but if any misfortune happens to the LIVÂ’s I will enjoy it. We have those fools to thank for the cult of celebrity jerk that is now our president. Did anyone read that SCOAMFÂ’s Uncle Omar has been allowed to stay in the US? Omar was arrested for drunk driving two years ago in suburb of Boston. His sister or half sister Zetunie was there at hearing, same judge & lawyer on the case. Omar was on the deport list for 20+ years. We citizens of MA have to pay towards those two. TFG should take his aunt & uncle to the WH & pay for them. IÂ’m sorry if I repeated something said earlier. IÂ’m exhausted and had a doctor appointment today. I have high BP again. I had it briefly three years ago. I think itÂ’s stress from my younger brotherÂ’s infections.

Anyone read the latest Drudge link from Mediate?

Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute testifying before Congress that it's coming to the point that if the federal government's behavior is setting the stage for armed revolt.

Here's the nut graf, as the newsies like to say:

“That is certainly something that no one wants to contemplate,” he
continued. “If the people come to believe that the government is no
longer constrained by the laws then they will conclude that neither are
they.”

408 #408: Canada, and all our west European friends, can sort of afford to go off on various socialist boondoggles because they have us to help with their defense.

So, who's gonna help us to afford all our socialist boondoggles?

Nobody, that's who.

This makes me grateful for our east European friends, who actually had to live under full-blown communism, and thus now reject it in all its forms.

I know it will never happen because of “racism.” To me it has absolutely nothing to do with race,, it’s his out of control ignoring or chaining laws, the Constitutional lawyer should know that he can’t do things like this. If he was a white republican and did things like this, Dem Congress would have impeachment threats in all forms of media. Issa has hearings, why? Why doesn’t he appoint a special prosecutor?

In 2004, after many gyrations, we decided to remodel our kitchen and used a well-known contractor with a fancy showroom on the main drag of one of the tonier cities in Silicon Valley -- we'll just call them SKB. We checked references that the guy had given us and things seemed to be on the square....then we backloaded the contract so that the guy would always be incentivized to drive the project to completion.

November 11, they tore our old kitchen out down to the studs....and showed up with their hand out for another payment. "Ahem", says I, "your next payment is when you show me cabinets, and according to the schedule we discussed, you've got a buttload of work to do before then -- including framing, skylights, new walls, rough plumbing, rough electrical, and gas."

So they decided to freeze us out -- our kitchen was open to the attic, in November/December, and they didn't bother to show up. For weeks (we stapled plastic up to stop the drafts). When that didn't work, they threw together some half-assed cabinets out of scrap lumber and asked for money again. We gave 'em a punch-list of fixes on the cabinets and they disappeared.

While this was going on, we visited their shop discovered that county court records were online. Based on the number of jobs on their jobs board, an average job length of 10 weeks (as ours had been projected), and the number of lawsuits filed.....they were being sued for roughly 1/7 of their jobs. They weren't so much a contracting firm as a law firm that occasionally built things [in order to have good references].

And when we were extracting ourselves from that mess (we ended up firing them, I finished the job myself with a handyman guy I knew, and we filed a "Notice of Completion" and held our breaths for a year), we discovered that the principal of the firm was engaged in exactly the scam you describe -- it really stood out because it was in the lawsuit database, but he was the plaintiff.

In the particular case of the schmuck I had to deal with, I believe that he pounced when an older couple who owned a property passed away. Particularly with rentals, a family overwhelmed with grief might take a while to inventory all the real estate owned by a decedent.....especially if there was a long illness involved where things might have gotten more muddled.

There is, BTW, a social good in having rules for orderly transfers of abandoned property. As usual, however, strict scrutiny at the margins of these rules is eminently justified.

On the 'quiet title' guy.

He is restricting his work to a small area on the N side of Cincinnati. Of, I believe 11 cases, he has been charged with breaking and entering on 1 case. Trial set for March (IIRC)

The particular area he has targeted is an older neighborhood, with lower  to low-middle income families. Most won't have the $ to get their own lawyers, and it doesn't appear to be very high on the police radar (as evidenced by only 1 charge so far)

The neighborhood also staddles the county line for Hamilton  / Butler counties.  It appears that he has filed his quiet title paperwork in both counties for some of the homes - leading to some more confusion.

I'm watching fairly closely, as this is almost in my backyard.

463 453 My first job was a gas jockey and the manager had an iron clad rule -- never take a check from a contractor. Sadly, their reputation hasn't improved any over the last 40+ years.

Two possible laws come into play on the home possession piece of shit thievery -- mechanic's lien and adverse possession/abandonment. A mechanic's lien comes into play most often on a car someone's worked on, and the customer doesn't want to pay the bill. They take ownership of the car, often in conjunction with the title holder/lender through the courts. But I think there's a contractor version that can be used on homeowners.

Abandonment works like this -- Say you've built a fence on your property over the property line of a neighboring piece of property. Now say the proper length of time goes by, like 10 years, with no objection to the fence placement from the other owner. You can file to have the boundary of your fenced property changed to reflect the fact that the other owner 'abandoned' it. No payment to the former owner is required.

Another way to acquire a property is by buying up delinquent property tax liens. If the delinquent owner doesn't reimburse you plus interest plus costs within a given time frame, they lose the home.

Those are the 3 ways I know of; maybe there's another. You know, it's damn near impossible to make through life in the US without needing the services of a lawyer at least once.

464 As a side note, I was planning on leaving all my Australian dendrobiums out this winter, 'cause they're supposed to be good down to 20 degrees or something, but now I'm thinking I should probably tuck some into the greenhouses just in case.

For any of you who are interested, these are the junkyard dogs of orchids -- species like Dendrobium kingianum and the ilk -- and they really do seem to thrive on abuse. The bad news is that the flowers are only about 3/8" across -- but they throw 'em in sprays. If you can grow tree ferns, they do great if you stuff 'em in the pocket on the trunk when you've cut away a dead frond.

Those are the 3 ways I know of; maybe there's another. You know, it's damn near impossible to make through life in the US without needing the services of a lawyer at least once.

Contractors, by necessity, work in that area described by Tennyson as "Nature, red in tooth and claw." To protect them, the "mechanic's lien" was created. One might think this was another Progressive wet dream pushed by FDR, but it actually dates back much farther and has Jefferson as an early advocate....which is probably why it's a pain-in-the-ass but workable in its native form.

To start with, it has nothing to do with being a mechanic. What it says is those who furnish labor or materials to a property can have a claim to the augmented property if the owner knew they were contributing and they were not paid.

Sounds good so far....but when we're talking real estate, it gets weird. Let's say a renter decides to put up a new fence to split the backyard. How the hell does the owner know? Does this add value to the property? What if the fence-builder called the lumber company and said, "drop these boards on this driveway" -- who knows where they came from? So what you get is a meticulously coordinated dance of lien releases when everyone is a stranger, that are normally waived when folks have a history, that come back to bite everyone in the ass when one of the guys that everyone has a history with goes belly-up.

And, BTW, I was in a situation where a subcontractor told me "those were my guys (employees can't do mechanics' liens)" when they were, in fact, a sub-subcontractor, and I had to pay for something twice.

466 So I went to sleep because I didn't feel good. I haven't felt good since 1989, which is  long time. It has been getting worse, much worse in the last few years since my dad died & I take care of my (literally) crazy mother. My mother who decides she wants to look for something when I am sleeping, and wakes me up. Ugh. My father was a saint to put up with this person (who couldn't be bothered to give him food or water for 3 days, which is what sent him to the hospital the last time). That said, I m SO HAPPY that Dear Leader is now below 40% approval in RCP!!!

467 So it begins. Obama I has spoken that he shall not repeal ObamaCare. This is the ultimate spell, the ultimate Wordsmith Spell. Effectively, Obama I has spoken that ObamaCare shall not be repealed. This spell cannot be broken, for if it is, the world ends. But surely such power does not exist: Obama I actually is, both literally and figuratively, the most powerful man in the world, Academia his loyal advisors and wisemen, and the Press his most loyal bodyguard. So Obama I has spoken (and written!!) ... so let it be done. But ObamaCare is worse than a fraud; it simply does not work. The absolute failure of the 404Care website aside, we see the repercussions of the spell: People really are losing health care, not just health insurance; the cost of ObamaCare policies is ... unaffordable, and the deductibles render them useless; physicians, the coin of this realm, really are being taken out of circulation and effectively out of business; and rumors arise of financial advisors recommending to insurance providers that they get out of and avoid ObamaCare. The Wordsmiths are, of course, completely wrong. Merely speaking that such a thing shall exist is meaningful only if one has the knowledge, money and power to make that thing exist, and that the thing to be created can in fact exist, given, among other things, Reality, Natural Laws and Math. Ye canna change the Laws o' Physics. Or Math. Obama I has spoken the ObamaCare spell. It is crumbling and people are staying away ... and not even all The Narcissist's Academics and all The Narcissist's Organizers and all The Narcissist's Journalists can put ObamaCare back together again. I think a repeal of ObamaCare will happen late-May and July 2014. If Congress does not over-ride a veto, then I think the Senate flips to R and the House becomes even more R, and we try the whole process again in January. Interesting questions appear: 1. Will Obama I accept repeal? He backed down on Syria. 2. Alternatively, what happens if Obama I's veto is over-ridden? 3. Will Congress simply take over running the country until November 2016? Congress likely needs some poking, and reminders that November 2014 is less than a year away.

Evening morons.  My first of 23 shifts this month, all 12 hours.  It's likely to drive me mad.

Today, my niece found a bag of pot in our kitchen.  No one in my home uses.  Which means that one of the people we had in over the past week to clean or take care of our dogs left approximately 2 ounces of finely ground pot just sitting in the middle of my house, in arm's reach of the computer where my niece does her online classes, and we are expecting a home inspection in the next few weeks so we can adopt her.  This, is some f*cked-up sh*t.  Mrs. Crank has since flushed the contraband on advice of her uncle, who used to work narcotics for the State Police.

I don't expect any advice on this, since I can prove nothing and naturally all parties deny responsibility, but I had to share.

There are two very ambiguous bits in there. First, "one of the people we had in over the past week to clean or take care of our dogs" -- er, just how many people does that include? And, second, "we can adopt her" -- does this refer to one of the dogs, the niece, or one of the people from the first question?

All three branches of government are briskly turning the Congressional Record into smeared toilet paper. Why should testimony make a difference?

Posted by: cthulhu at December 03, 2013 11:33 PM (T1005)

479 One of the weird things about the coming months is that people on the right are going to have to abandon their decency when it comes to "I told you so--'s" and forgive and forget--'s.

Phrases like "anyone that is stupid enough, gullible enough, or mean enough to have ....." have to be used like baseball bats on the sides of skulls -- even after it seems needlessly cruel.

Because it is a massive level up -- the final level. This ain't talk of impeachment, or resigning, or vetoing....peaceful transition. The way things have gone for over 230 years.

You might even say -- unprecedented.

481 480 jc ===I caution you to set a very slow clock for all of this. It will drag on and on and on and on ....... and on ...... It will be horrible for our country, ... I think people will die because of health care denial. I'd really like to see stories about such people being saved by others who step in and provide care, etc., and highlight the failure of ObamaCare. I also want to see the RINOs prevented from mollifying the results of ObamaCare. They need to let it hit the bridge abutment. My concern about the time frame is that, like gas prices, if we let it go on, we become accustomed to it. Who considers gas at $3.46 cheap? We all do (here in San Jose- Oakland-SF), because we've seen the pull-back from $4.30 or so. But why is gas no longer $1.85? Further, Summer 2014 is a good time to charge the hill. Election 2014 is THE WEAPON; Hillary! aside, 2016 might be too late. Force the D's in congress to take a stand on ObamaCare ... bathe them in it, and its results. Make Harry Reid act on Repeal, or at least be seen to avoid it. Flip the Senate. Finally, if Obama I accepts repeal, what happens? If he is over-ridden, what happens? Given his use of EOs and general flouting of US law, this is an important question, particularly if the Senate becomes R. We seem to be seeing an ugly side of government.

My biggest worry about testimony like this is:

Despite Obama's claim that he is not an idealogue (laughable at best) - he is of the worst kind, one who would rather the entire world go up in flames rather than admit defeat on this issue. The fact that someone has now uttered the 'armed revolt' words - in Congress - Obama will have (what he and all of his loyal followers believe)  complete justification for an 'emergency power' grab.

In today's militarized police state, how many police officers do you trust to serve and protect the people instead of the powers that be?

ATMs dry up, VISA shuts down and things get ugly in areas where people aren't prepared, general higher population densities. 2. Some Iranian or NOrk cooks off an HEMP weapon, wrecking havoc on the civilian infrastructure and things get ugly in areas where people aren't .... 3. Obama does something really stupid, like double the gas tax or try the trillion dollar coin trick via bureaucratic fiat leading to civil disobienece like blocking the highways and knocking out high voltage power lines, and then things get ugly in areas ... 4. China goes into an economic meltdown, leading to #1 and #2 or 5. Middle East goes white hot, Obama pisses off Putin and it gets out

Although she would sound an easy suspect, she doesn't realistically have any unsupervised time away from Mrs. Crank, and also who the hell would give a 13 year old 2 ounces of pot that she has no money for?

Posted by: Conservative Crank at December 04, 2013 04:04 AM (b2cFu)

Y'see....there isn't even that much confusion. Have a talk with the housekeeper and tell her that she might find pot from persons unknown around the place, and how that puts your life (e.g. adoption) in grave danger and that it must be eradicated. That will frighten her into not leaving it around.

Then have a talk with niece saying that you think the housekeeper or dogtrainer left some around and how it could really mess things up.

Then have a talk with the dogtrainer about how maybe the dogs should sniff out contraband so it can be promptly flushed.

At the end of the day, you'll have a system that will not bring their own shit onto your property, and will promptly flush anything brought in by someone else.

507 Finally, if Obama I accepts repeal, what happens? If he is over-ridden, what happens? Given his use of EOs and general flouting of US law, this is an important question, particularly if the Senate becomes R. We seem to be seeing an ugly side of government. Posted by: Arbalest at December 04, 2013 03:40 AM He flipped on Syria because he doesn't mind giving in to actual terrorists. But fellow Americans who believe in freedom and fiscal sanity? We're an existential threat to totalitarianism, marxism, and all the other -isms obama holds dear. The only way he backs down is if pelosi and reid force him to, which I think highly unlikely. Hell, he's not even going to listen when the little people he claims to love so much start with the real weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. (All we've seen is a small preview, which the administration has waved a dismissive hand at.) There's no way he's overridden unless the Rs control both chambers -- which won't be before Jan 2015 (when the election's winners actually take office) -- and even then, I just don't see the establishment Rs pushing repeal. They want obamacare as much as the Ds do, since it'll mean somewhere down the line they'll gain power, money, and influence. FFS, the establishment Rs want to help the Ds push amnesty through! Do you really think they'll suddenly give a fuck what WE want to push repeal of o-care? Look, the lines have been drawn: there's the people fighting for freedom -- us -- and there's the establishment Rs and Ds, who are all about controlling us and farming us for the tax money they can squeeze out of us. That's the argument we need to start making, whether "we" is the Tea Party or just conservatives. WE have to give people the message that this is a fight between the people who want to control you and tax you to death versus those who want you to be free and successful. Finally, the Ds have proven they can steal elections, so I'm not holding my breath that the Rs somehow manage to take the Senate and strengthen their hold on the House. Not to mention that the establishment Rs are hellbent on fighting conservatives instead of obama and the dems, which means an R takeover is even less likely. We'll get no relief through the ballot box, I fear. The establishment Rs aren't going to suddenly grow cajones and stand up to all the unconstitutional shit the Ds are pulling. The media will largely be Pravda, US, just like they've been for the past five years. And the courts? Yeah, that ain't happening either. I agree with the CATO dude... we're heading for revolution, because that's the only option the progressives in both parties are leaving us.

Posted by: jc at December 04, 2013 05:21 AM They were more than happy to physically push elderly war heroes and lock them out of the mall during the shutdown theater. They'll be more than happy to do the same to us, should we defy them. Now... the real question is: will the military follow orders to fire upon fellow citizens. I want to say "of course not!" but given how the administration has been forcing out any high-ranking officer who isn't marching in lockstep with obama, I'm not willing to bet my life on that assumption any longer. If we took to the streets, they'd use force against us, I can guarantee that. Especially if they have real fear for their own safety. Maybe it won't be the military... maybe it'll be someone else, like the cops, the TSA, or SEIU. I just don't know. No, I don't think we'll go from status quo to revolution overnight. But what you're missing is there's been a whole lot of quietly enduring crap from our government for a while now. Just like the people in the bread lines in Russia, who were willing to stand there for days, as long as at the end of their wait, they'd take home a loaf of bread. And then one day, there isn't any bread. It'll be like that... we've been quietly enduring and then one day something will snap. I'm not sure it pays to spend a lot of time trying to figure out WHAT the spark will be. It's more important to recognize it for what it is when it happens and act accordingly.

And they will do whatever they must to stop us. I get that. But beginning with the non-violent route allows the fence-sitters to feel comfortable in joining us. First it does not matter one whit what any opposition does to the proggies. It will be labeled to whatever advantage the proggies came get. As far as the fence sitters go. I personally don't want or need them. Let them sit on that damn fence until they get herded into labor camps or until they starve to death.

The fence sitters are just as much a problem as the proggies are.

544 There was a lot of subtle sabotage employed by the Chetniks (Serbs) against the Germans during WWII. Hollowing out a piece of coal, filling it with explosives, then tossing it into the pile used to power the train engine. Or putting sand on truck axles. In effect, doing things that would gum up the works when the train or truck was many miles away, so nobody could say for sure who the doer was. Logistics is the way to go in our fight against DC.

547 The Chetniks? They were reduced to a mere criminal band of thugs by the time Tito finished off the krauts in Yugoslavia. The Chetniks spent more time fighting Tito than they ever did fighting the nazi's.

I do believe, correct me if I am wrong, that after the war was over Tito had the leader of the Chetniks executed for treason, for collaborating with the nazis.

Bad example.

Posted by: GMB at December 04, 2013 02:20 AM (nkPV9)

548 Sorry, GMB. You're wrong about the Chetniks. Tito's partisans spent more time fighting the Chetniks than they did the Nazis. The partisans were happy to do whatever "fighting" they did against the Nazis in such a way that innocent civilians were killed. (The Nazis had this fun habit of rounding up a hundred people for every Nazi killed and executing them. Mihailovic -- leader of the Chetniks -- did everything in his power to save Serb lives while also doing what he could against the Nazis. Tito didn't give a fuck about anyone but himself and the communist cause.) The Chetniks saved over 500 allied soldiers trapped behind enemy lines in Yugoslavia. When the partisans found downed fliers, they handed them over to the Germans for gold. As for Mihailovic's trial, it was a show trial to get rid of a political enemy. Mihailovic was an ardent supporter of democracy and a staunch ally of ours, even after we left him hanging. Hey... fun fact: did you know that a couple dozen of those allied fliers Mihailovic saved wanted to travel to Yugoslavia to give testimony in his support? Our State Dept wouldn't allow it, because of the agreement we made with Russia and Great Britain at Yalta, divvying up the world into communist and free. Those men couldn't go to Yugoslavia, but they gave their testimony in Manhattan and sent it to Belgrade, not that it would change the outcome. Rule of thumb: any narrative that praises communists while denigrating their opposition is bound to be a lie.
