Overnight Open Thread (14 Dec 2013)

Three reasons why teenagers can't find jobs. And yet, when they're old enough to vote, they'll vote for the folks that screw them on prospects for ever getting a job and make them beholden to the government for sustenance. Obama Is Killin' It On Foreign Policy

Ah yes, another successful outcome of our misadventures in the Middle East from the White House and State Department. Benghazi, Libya, has become training hub for Islamist fighters. Egypt, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan. Midas touch. I'm tellin' ya.

What Type Of Personality Do You Have?

Well you can take the test and find out! And then once you know your personality, you can see what Star Wars character you would be. Heaven help you if you get the Jar-Jar Binks personality. Of course there is a Star Trek one too.

While we're talking a little Star Wars, how about a little Bohemian Rhapsody: Star Wars Edition.

This Years Biggest Technological Developments

Um shouldn't Obamacare be on this? The website debacle face plant counts as a development no? As Joey B. says, it's a big effin' deal.

Santa Stakeout Kit

You know, some of this stuff in the Santa Stake Out Kit could come in handy for the burning times. I'm kinda diggin' the tactical stocking.

Laser Weapon

This is promising. U.S. Army hails success with drone-shooting laser. It is truck mounted and it shot down a UAV and several mortar rounds. Sadly, it won't be ready for primetime until 2022. If it ever gets funded. But hey, maybe someday we can shrink it up a bit and install it on a shark!

Speaking of sharks, here's your next Shark movie. I don't know, I think it needed at least one tornado. And really, Mecha Shark should have a laser.

10 Drunkest States In America

Hmmm. 10 drunkest states in the U.S. The link is one of those annoying 11 page click to see the next type so here's the list.

10. South Dakota
9. Vermont
8. Montana
7. Alaska
6. Wisconsin
5. North Dakota
4. Nevada
3. Delaware
2. D.C.
1. New Hampshire

I'm sure if the shutdown had lasted longer D.C. would've been #1.

No one seems as certain that they know what the Republicans need to do to win presidential elections as those Republicans who have lost presidential elections, such as Mitt Romney, John McCain and Bob Dole. Their six-year-old daughter said she wanted to be president when she grew up and would provide houses for the homeless people. When he offered her an opportunity to work for him so she could give the money she earned to the homeless, she said, "Why not have the homeless people work for the money themselves?" 94 Laser weapons have advanced a great deal in the past decade. The new systems, like the one tested, are increasingly real weapons systems, as opposed to lab demonstrations. Chemical lasers have been abandoned as impractical and the focus is on solid state lasers. The solid state lasers are less powerful, but are showing steady improvement. Meanwhile these demonstrations are perfecting all the other parts of the weapons systems separate from the laser source. There's no doubt now that the 2020s will have laser defense weapons. So bases in places like A-stan in the 2020s will have laser defenses against mortar and rocket and UAV attacks. The power demonstrated above was only 10kw, but the same laser programs have demo 50-60kw and expectations are that 100kw is near. The more power you have the bigger a target you can take out and at a farther range.

96 I saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug today, in 3D. Peter Jackson is an idiot. Reworking the story line from the original, written for children, to a more or less adult level makes sense. Further, there are quite a lot of actors, and giving them more acting time is reasonable, particularly if it fill in story parts that were explained elsewhere. But the way Jackson does it is weak. He depends quite a lot on action, video-game-level action ... it gets long, tiresome and old. The scene at Dol Guldur is too long and badly-conceived; there's a loooong fight sequence. Having Gandalf do a Ninjy Op (with some Whomping Action™), would have worked very much better. The scene (scenes?) with Smaug is/are far too long, and end up as more video-game-level action. Smaug gets so close and does so much sniffing, I found myself wondering why Dildo didn't simply drop trou, get down on hands and feet and run a Cyclops Attack at Smaug, or at least blow off some stiff wind when he got close enough. Naturally, Jackson makes One Idiotic Change that cannot be forgiven. No spoilers though. But putting all this aside, there is One Thing about the entire movie (at least the 3D version) that is truly unforgivable: - Virtually every non-CGI scene, every non-action scene, and almost every closeup, has the look, feel and ambiance of Daytime TV: "All My Children IN Middle Earth" It's that bad. The scenes look like they really were shot on a set. The scenes scream "set". I was astounded.

103 Mindy, now that D'oh Boy is home I'd love to host a Moron meet-up in Savannah.  In the spring.  We might be able to work in a ghost walk or haunted pub crawl.

I've threatened to host one in the past, but my heart wasn't really into it.

Now that the kid is home, he's expressed a desire to meet the Horde and participate.  And husband is on-board as well.

109 Until recently it was thought that 100kw was necessary to be useful as a weapon. But improvements in beam control have shown that useful work can be done even at only 10kw. The old 80s SDI model called for 1MW. And, so far, only chemical lasers show the ability to achieve that kind of power. But that was to shoot down ICBMs. These newer, smaller, solid state lasers have much more modest goals. At first it's going to be C-RAM - Counter Rocket Artillery and Mortar defenses. And small UAVs, too. Standard base defense. Naval warships in the 2020s are also clearly going to be equipped with laser weapons. Now that the tech is being reliably demonstrated people can start planning how to use them.

110 96 But putting all this aside, there is One Thing about  the entire movie (at least the 3D version) that is truly  unforgivable:
- Virtually every non-CGI scene, every non-action scene,  and almost every closeup, has the look, feel and  ambiance of Daytime TV: "All My Children IN  Middle Earth"
It's that bad. The scenes look like they really were shot  on a set. The scenes scream "set". I was astounded

I've heard that that can happen if you use the normal FPS for video, instead of the reduced frame rate we're used to in movies.

132 I think over in the other thread just before it expired, jewell42 bemoaned the failure to develop a KC area meetup.

We could expand the concept to include all of the areas to the north . . . Nebraska, the Dakotas, Iowa, Minnesota . . . they could all enjoy a vacation in balmy tropical Kansas City some sunny, possibly-above-freezing day this winter.

It's five hours' drive on I-29 to KC from Sioux Falls, a short 6 hours from the southern nether-parts of the MSP metro down I-35.

We could possibly even make it easier for you cold people by finding somewhere in the Northland . . . Liberty, Missouri would (you would think) be a sensible place for such an event.

But I'm an INTP tonight . . . I think about things, I don't actually do them . . .

Spend every moment you can with your mom.  Mine died four years ago (choked) at 81, the very week our son began boot camp at Parris Island.

I miss her so much to this day, and I get up every morning and speak to Mommy and Daddy (their pictures are on my dresser).  I tell them how much I miss and love them.   Daddy died of a fall and head injury on Mother's Day morning, 18 years ago.  He was an amazing, loving man.

143 Myers-Briggs gets at some important variation in human personality -- some people are more introverted and some are more extroverted -- but it claims a level of precision and certainty far beyond what it really can do. And I've seen it used in personnel decisions where people treat it like a real measurement. Like we've measured people's height or blood type. It's crazy.

169 Of course teenagers will vote for the very people that have screwed them over. The reason they will do this is because they have been taught for years that the Republican party are responsible for all of their problems. They are fed a daily dose of Howard Zinn, and they chomp on Chomsky in their junior and senior years. They are shown Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth and Michael Moore movies, and these movies are presented as being objectively true. The teens don't know the differences because they have never been taught to recognize logical fallacies, and they do not understand the difference between an anecdote and scientific study. They've never heard of Thomas Sowell, and they have never been taught how capitalism works. They are taught to hate Hitler, but shrug their shoulders or give glassy eyed stares when one mentions Pol Pot, Mao, or Stalin. They think Communism is cool, cause, ya know, bands like The Decemberists play the Comintern Anthem before every show. Buying vintage items made in the fromer U.S.S.R. is hip, and they don Che t-shirts and don't know that he was a murderous thug. This is why teens vote for the very party that is stealing their future from them. They don't know any better, and since we, the conservative right, have abdicated control of our schools to the radical left, why are we even surprised? We didn't even put up a fight. We let it happen.

You'll surprise yourself with how strong you will be.  I was my mother's primary care giver for 20 years.  My sister (younger) didn't lift a finger.

I was devastated, but comforted in the knowledge I cared for Mother and gave up vacations, etc. to do so.  Not so with my sister.  She could barely be bothered to visit once a year.

The one who has suffered horribly is my sister.  She loved Mother, but was negligent in caring for her.  And my mother always, always, favored/forgave my little sister.

Then we had to mark ourselves on the chart that was hanging in one of the manager's offices so that everyone would know how best to work with everyone else. It was supposed to help us be more productive. Mostly we just used it as a tool for mocking.

I remember that fad. It faded away, as bullshit tends do do in the private sector unless mandated by Big Daddy Government. Would that the same could happen to similarly empty fads like diversity training and Common Core.

201 Good article about why teenagers don't have jobs, some good points raised. But a lot of them don't want the type of jobs teenagers used to have. They don't want to do menial jobs for very low pay because there's an idea that's been floating about that somehow if you take a menial, low-paying job---you'll be stuck there for life. The writer brings up Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and it's funny because it was around that time the idea took hold. The Judd Reinhold character is portrayed as being a dork and  something of a loser. It's a shame. Some of the most successful people I know started out working in fast food places, supermarkets, and for virtual slave-wages for their fathers  or grandfathers....

That laser weapons demo'd was pretty much a finished weapons system. Self-contained truck. Big limitation, especially at 10kw, is weather. Which is why the testing was in low-humidity desert area. While on JC Penney website I found 84 inch silk panels in Quarry Blue that were $200 per panel on sale for $60 per panel. They came Thursday & I finally took a good look at them today. I think they are a good deal, well made, color isn't really blue, more of a pale gray, but I like them. My older brother said they mark things up so much that you think you're getting a good deal. Categorical statements are of course entertaining and nearly guaranteed to get a rise and response from the assembled guests.  However, a man must know his audience, and if said audience should contain a person who will have you strapped to a table and split lengthwise by a laser purely for sport, that should be taken into consideration prior to making certain types of categorical statements.  It's always so sad when a polite dinner conversation turns antagonistic.

360 Don't ask me, I'm busy swapping the flannel sheets off the windows to the bed and taking the regular sheets off the bed to go up on the windows. It's winter, you know.

I don't know whether or not I should laugh at this, but after the other night's list of what every man over thirty should have, I find this hilarious.  You probably have a chainsaw and lawnmower.  Those weren't on the list.  They should have been.

361 Categorical statements are of course entertaining and nearly guaranteed to get a rise and response from the assembled guests. However, a man must know his audience, and if said audience should contain a person who will have you strapped to a table and split lengthwise by a laser purely for sport, that should be taken into consideration prior to making certain types of categorical statements. It's always so sad when a polite dinner conversation turns antagonistic. Posted by: Auric Goldfinger at December 14, 2013 11 Dude, I am in nyc, my audience hates me. When somebody demonstrates that emotional intelligence is something other than a measure created to help people who can't / don't / won't do the thinking stuff feel better about themselves, I'll pay attention.  I don't say this as an antagonist - if there's evidence beyond gauzy social science 55% correlation and it's a real thing, I'd like to know.  As it stands from what I know, it's a measure of how nice you think you are.

487 Re: mass-market entertainment--I'm finding, as things deteriorate, that it's harder and harder to find movies, TV shows, or pretty much anything that will entertain me without clubbing me about the head and shoulders with some kind of heavy, oppressive, obvious 'progressive' message about the evilness of, well, people like me, and the goodness of, well, stupid people.

And on that note . . . I was recently on a cruise, and had the dubious pleasure of sharing a supper table with a raging, mindless leftist couple from Seattle.  One evening, I got into a discussion with the female of the couple (yes, they were a heterosexual couple) in which I mentioned the basic futility of throwing money at social problems and hoping they'd go away.  She had no coherent response, and finally retreated into accusing me of not being able to see things because I was a white male.

Then it got fun.

I got offended at her, for demeaning my humanity and my perceptions in that manner.

She didn't like that at all.  Not one little bit.

(Alcohol was involved, on my part, it's true.  But I grabbed onto the 'offended that you would demean my humanity' line and rode it like a cowboy about to win the World Rodeo Championship.  Alinsky--use their own rules against them--whatever the fuck # of Rules for Radicals it is.)

Anyway, the next morning, I found her, and apologized . . . but only for getting angry, most specifically NOT for what I got angry about.

I don't think she had ever before actually encountered a 'conservative' who was willing to actually get emotionally offended at HER for what SHE had said.

I think it worked.  A little bit, anyway.

So you know how the advice is always "never lose your temper, never lose your cool" in these kinds of discussions?

Bullshit.

Get emotional with a "liberal," if you have a chance (which means, if you have a chance to Alinsky them with it).

Because that's really, in the final analysis, the only thing "liberals" understand:  emotions.  They're obviously impervious to actual rational thought.

Also:  On every other cruise we've ever been on (and it's been a lot of them) my wife and I have exchanged e-mail addresses with our dinner tablemates, and to this day correspond with many of them.  Somehow, that exchange just didn't get made with these "delightful" "liberal" people who were, honestly, the most closed-minded people I've encountered in a long, long, long time.

I'll muddle along somehow, I'm sure.

I liked Seasons 1 & 2 much better than this season. It might just be me. *** I think I'm all caught up with MoS so I'm now ready for the season finale. I left a comment for you on the ONT a couple of nights ago. I am up to the episode 9, season 3, of Homeland so I'm almost completely up-to-speed. It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride. The protagonist is deeply, deeply flawed and, frankly, quite unlikable. I am by far more sympathetic to the Brody character. A couple of times the crap that Danes has, ultimately, gotten away with has irritated me to the point of wondering whether I would continue to watch. However, I am so in awe of the writing and the acting that I can't quit it. They've done a marvelous job of weaving a very complex story, consistently, across three complete seasons. That's quite a feat. Thanks for recommending it.

NDH and BC, I have been out of town and then absorbing all free time reading about this case and not reading this blog or any blog for that matter as am crazy busy. Full disclaimer: I am a Seminole by the grace of God and tuition (half Gator as well, but lean Seminole). I have read as much about this case as there is on the Interwebs, and have learned way more about the disposable sex lives of college kids which cannot erase from brain.

Anyway, after the accuser's discombobulated press conference yesterday,  and reading the facts of why there were no charges, with dates and yada rattling in my head like my Benghazi Rainman facts, well, this was not rape in the sense of what we think of as rape (I saw the medical report as well). This is a cluster to end all clusters and the timing as well as the tabloid that started this should be noted (TMZ as well as Tampa newspaper, just so happened to start this inquiry of a redacted case the day after Oregon lost their #2 spot).

While I need to go to bed, I just want to know what morons are saying as I respect you. But I am the grand poobah of knowledge right now on this case and support Jameis Winston. He deserves the Heisman. Hate to post and run but need my beauty sleep. I am pretty sure I am in the minority, but all I can say is look at what is posted and why the State Attny did not bring charges (it is, or was, in the Tallahassee Democrat and on other sites). Love y'all, I really do and am curious as to what is being said about the subject. Thanks.

508 501 One of my go-to retorts for liberal puritanism since the late 90s has been "You are SO insensitive to my feelings."

You have to judge who you say it to, but a lot of em will at least draw up short like they found an eight-legged frog.

That is good. Another way to take them off of their pre-programmed track is to let them get into a foaming rage (easy), and then say something like "Why are you so angry? I find that I'm a happier person if I don't give in to that sort of anger about things I don't control." Messes them right up.

This is a worthy point. It is hard to cast off the Connery Bond once you've seen it, and arguably he did not capture completely the "coldness" of the literary Bond. But the Bond of the books was cold and relentless when he needed to be, and turned to warmth and passion when pursuing attractive women. Connery did, on occasion, but it wasn't his defining characteristic. The books are different animals from the movies and it's just as well they didn't go that way from the get go. For better or worse, the movies define Bond, not the books. Craig can do "cold" and "tortured", I guess, if that means frowning and looking pissed off. In the context of the movies, Dalton did that much better, so did Lazenby, for that matter and he wasn't even an actor per se. I didn't like any of the Moore ones, they had the charm, but lacked the other side of the equation. Any Connery, Lazenby Dalton and Brosnan's Goldeneye are great. That's probably true. The Bond of the books was sort of a functionary with a particularly challenging and exotic job. It was Connery who made him "the man every man would like to be."

You sound like you are a good husband. *** JC Penney is terrific for window fixtures and every now and then they have terrific sales. I was patient and waited for their big annual sale and bought custom Bali blinds to match the bedrooms. Compared to what they cost elsewhere, they were practically a steal.

622 re: Craig Bond:

The thing is, for some, no one else will be able to fill Connery's shoes in the role. Hey, to each his own.

The new ones will never match nostalgia. For any genre, for any character. Ever.

An old radio station manager I knew said that the media you consume at around age 13 will be permanently imprinted. And, those themes, sounds, images will be a touchstone in your life. I have yet to find that incorrect.

I wasn't around for the Connery flicks. The first Bond I saw in a theatre was View to a Kill. I was super-impressed, but in retrospect the production value was the thing that overwhelmed the 'contribution' by Moore.

The successive Bonds really didn't impress me much. Golden Eye was ruined by Mr. "I'm Inveeencible! Alan Cumming, who was supposedly regarded as a great actor.

Craig and the new Bond production crew returned the franchise to a respectable purchase. Casino was a landmark; a little slow in the 1st act, but an ejection-seat of a 3rd act.

Quantum was a bit of a slip, but Skyfall, imho, was a decent recovery.

YMMV, of course, but considering what *could* have happened to the franchise I think Bond fans should be grateful it didn't become a schlockfest that was charted by the 90's version.

I hear what you guys are saying. I understand what they're going for with the new movies and with Craig. I don't rate Craig at all, but, that's just me... he's doing alright box office wise, so what do I know. I guess old Bond films won't fly with kids these days. I saw "You Only Live Twice" in the flick shack originally and I was ok with having Connery's shoes filled. "OHMSS" was a fantastic movie on the big screen and although Lazenby was no Connery, the film was so good and he did such a good effort, it worked. I'm a 60's Bond person, but, "Goldeneye" was a killer Bond film. It had everything you'd want in a classic 007 movie. I'd rate it as good, if not better, than some 60's ones. On the big screen, it delivered. The opener with Brosnan and Bean, followed by the dead set killer theme... it set you up for a hell of a ride and it didn't disappoint. It had the spectacle, the cation, the charm and humour in just the right mix. Cumming worked fine, in the classic Bond over the top villain sense with a silly touch.

I'm nostalgic, but I just want a good Bond movie and it doesn't have to have Connery.

653 I think a lot of music appreciation is a matter of repetitive hearing. That's why you like the stuff you heard as a teenager; you heard it frequently. I like 60s-80s rock; my parents like old country and western stuff.

But this one time at band camp (no, I was at my parents' house) I was using some gear my dad has for converting vinyl to digital. It has software for cleaning up all the background noise and pops. It took multiple passes to clean, listen, and clean some more. I was working on a new age jazz album, Like Children, by Jerry Goodman and Jan Hammer. Definitely NOT my parents' cup-o-tea.

But after about 4-5 hours of repetitive playback, my mom comes in and asks to make her a copy when I'm done. I got her to liking it just by playing it over and over.

661 Posted by: GnuBreed at December 15, 2013 02:21 AM (cHZB7) I have heard that smell is a trigger for memory, but music is sort of like a set of chronological markers for me; I enjoy the memories of what was going on in my life when I hear stuff I know and may or may not like. Like driving around Alaska in 2003 listening to Static-X, trying to avoid sobriety, frostbite and moose. Or working in the central valley of CA rocking out to GWAR, much to the disappointment of my coworkers.

685 Evening horde! ENFJ Extravert(1%) iNtuitive(50%) Feeling(25%) Judging(89%) Boy, I can tell you all I'm embracing my judgmental side after an evening in Salt Lake City. Attended a holiday jazz concert by a trumpeter/vocalist, Byron Stripling. He was quite good. But my fellow patrons were knuckle-dragging cretins. So many arrived late, interrupted the concert, tromped all over people trying to find their seats in the dark. I don't know if it's from having been in a major city (Chicago) recently or what, but I'm keenly aware of the, shall we say, lack of sophistication and incredible denseness of the locals this week. Grumble grumble. But Byron played a mean horn. Nice voice, too.

686 Adriane that is so not happening...

Their excuse for asking about lunch was to talk about stories.  So talked them into meeting at a used book store.  Talked books and their story problems.  And then we parted ways.

I have heard how they talk about their spouse in previous writer group meetings.  So casual about how they love them to death and next breath how their spouse only has a GED and blah blah blah while they also hate their job and this state.  Their dream is to move to San Francisco and being a best selling author.

I'll hazard a guess that Spouse learned more from getting that GED than the speaker learned getting a diploma. GED's tend to be a little tougher to get from what I've seen, and those who go for one tend to be a little more determined and focused.

Then stripped the baseboards, working on repairs to the floor now. I feel your pain. However, I got a Craigslist score that was perhaps more than I bargained for. Someone's dad was a carpenter, and died when he was 91. They were giving away the wood trim he had been collecting for decades...all unpainted, high quality stuff stored in the rafters of the garage. I said I'd take it all, and it ended up being an assortment more vast and varied than fifty Home Depots. So I'm set there, at least.

CO MoMe +++ , Bebe's neighbor is stealing her water [Omar Sharif's intro scene from Lawrence of Arabia comes to mind], lots of screwing around with the personality test results ["wait, are we all Emperor Palpatine here?!?!?"], discussion about the literary Bond and the cinematic Bond, Alinskying liberals by pointing out that they're bigots for stereotyping conservatives unfairly, the overabundance of soup, and some folks roped Gabe references into a discussion he didn't need to be involved with ["I am not a fruit, I am a free Moron!", as he is pursued across a beach by a giant pink balloon.][Unfortunately, I wasn't around to tsk-tsk this, as I was at the aforementioned Xmas party.....I like Gabe, I've met him and talked with him, he's a good guy and a fine Moron -- and, like any guy, he gets a certain ration of shit, but he also gets random shit no Moron deserves. I hope, like The Prisoner, he gets past it every time it comes up.].

Having a lawyer is like having a hit man on staff. It's embarrassing that he's even around, it's embarrassing that his job is to do something ugly, it's embarrassing that you're in a situation where ugly things might need to get done.....but if you are, and he does, and he's good at it -- you're really freakin' grateful he's on your team and not the other guys'.

748 Mr. Dog, Of course you can're name bed. Like I said, it just made me curious. I used to run retail for small, high-end fitness equip and sporting goods stores from MD down to GA. Had friends/ contacts/ peers in unrelated fields throughout. While many of these were small mom and pops, a few grew to $30m+ operations. All with antiquated POS systems. Anyway, like I said, just made me curious. I may shoot you a line. I just bookmarked your site and will probably spend some time over there reading back - looks like a fine place you have there. And I like the sound of your lawyer, too.

750 OK, some background here for those who seem to understand. This is a regional office for a National chain. Last year we upgraded all their stores to the latest greatest at the time (we were receiving stuff three days off of the assembly line) and their Central Node is now overloaded from the information flow. This is their test bed for having Regional Sub-Nodes and they were chosen because National thought they were the best manned to do it. Whoops, seems they were not! National just got on the conference call!

Now, see -- that is a great example of the kind of shit that is his by birthright, and he gave a great Moronworthy delivery.....which is why the petty stuff is so freakin' retarded. I understand that another great moment had a moron charging him across a Moron Meetup yelling "RINO!!!!" at the top of his lungs -- that's wildly hilarious.

Hell, when I met him, I bent his ear at some great length about why changing the "who" of getting married before understanding the "what" was insanely retarded, especially because people were squirming like hell under the problems of the "what" -- as in prenups, family court shenanigans, and folks (like myself, working on our 3rd decade together) avoiding the hell out of the government's marriage racket altogether. But, y'know -- he's a Moron. We're allowed to disagree and attempt to persuade without being demonized -- he didn't whip out his "H8r" club to start bashing me, and I shook his hand and....well, and drank an awful lot of Bushmills.....

I agree completely that he's OUR Gabe; I wish I could agree completely about the "should take any kidding as a sign of love". I'd go so far as to say, "should take the great majority of kidding as a sign of being well-integrated into the Horde." But I've seen stuff that ranged between irritatingly "off" and outright banworthy filth spouted off about Gabe, and I see no reason he needs to pretend to be above it. That said, some of the swings of the banhammer may have been a bit unfocused....but, as I have said on numerous occasions, this tends to be temporary.

Good deal. You gave him a chit, he gave you a chit. When SHTF elsewhere, you have history. He's worth knowing -- @744 shows he did his homework and understanding what it meant, and check to see if he's behind dragging National in....if he is, he's one canny bastard that is really worth knowing (choosing who is involved in conference calls is frequently the key to success).

Is there anything in his office network that could have been gold instead of the silver that was installed?

Time for the bump to Platinum!

764 Well, I'll be....if there's an armed person within 80 seconds of an incident in a school, it ends with minimal injuries. Who could possibly imagine?

"After that, Pierson set off one of the Molotov cocktails, setting at least three bookshelves on fire, investigators told KDVR.com. When an armed school resource officer entered the room, Pierson believed he was cornered and turned his gun on himself, Robinson said.  The entire attack lasted approximately 80 seconds and was captured by security cameras."

Don't make it too stealthy. Just go in, shake hands and identify, say you're "going to upgrade it to current standards", and give him the nod -- and, of course, make damned sure it's a real upgrade. Think about giving him a hotline phone number that doesn't go through the switchboard or phone tree -- but stress that it's for *him* and not his receptionist.

But there's no such thing as a "good honest Lawyer" -- there's just one that you, yourself, can call upon to smite the other side.....which is why it is more like "a gun up your sleeve" than anything else.
