Something tells me that the White House and democrats will squash the Congressional Medal Proposed For Ex-SEALs Killed In Benghazi. These men deserve this award. It stinks that the media has largely ignored this story and We Still Can't Talk To The Survivors. Most transparent administration my ass. Guinness Recipes

Well it is St. Patrick's day tomorrow. Anyone have any good Guinness beer recipes? Ah, who am I kidding. I'll just end up drinking the Guinness. What are y'all gonna make to eat tomorrow? Can anyone guess the lady above? Answer here at Gorgeous Women Drinking Guinness.

Running

Hmmmm. I don't know if I could change my running style and I don't think I want to go to a new shoe that "chops the sole down to something flat, thin, and flexible". I like my shoes comfy and springy. What Your Body Goes Through When You Run (And How Not To Injure It).

Pron Search Habits

7 Some rocket science history. 87 years ago on March 16, 1926, Robert Goddard, one of the founders of modern rocketry, launched his first successful liquid-fueled rocket at Auburn, Mass. It only traveled 41 ft vertically and 184 ft horizontally, but hey, baby steps. Goddard's early work was often ridiculed by the media and other scientists. His early funding was mostly from his own pockets. The government and the military rarely showed much interest in his rockets even up to the beginning of WW 2. The Germans and the Soviets, however, were very interested. 43 years after his first successful launch, his proven principles would enable Americans to walk on the moon. And 44 years after the first moonwalk we have to hitch a ride to space from the damn rooskies. Could he do the same thing today? Although very smart and driven, he would probably be an old man before he could get all the permits from the bureaucrats just for his first launch. Then a swat team from homeland security would show up in their brand new MRAP's and practice on him with their ammo.

BTW, morons, the end game has already started in the EU. Cyprus just confiscated 10% of bank deposits. I'll say that again, over the weekend, when the banking system was closed, Cyprus just deducted 10% roughly from all bank accounts.

The fools must have a gun to their heads (with Putin on the other end -- Cyprus is a haven for Russian mafia money) as they've just triggered the biggest bank run you can imagine. They'll have to impose capital controls immediately to stop the massive bleeding.

40 7 Goddard's early work was often ridiculed by the media Posted by: ExSnipe at March 16, 2013 09:32 PM (PBm/l) The New York Times specifically, in 1920. That Professor Goddard, with his "chair" in Clark College and the countenancing of the Smithsonian Institution, does not know the relation of action and reaction, and of the need to have something better than a vacuum against which to react—to say that would be absurd. Of course he only seems to lack the knowledge ladled out daily in high schools. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_H._Goddard#The_New_York_Times_editorial To their credit (heh), the NYT did publish a retraction on July 17, 1969, the day after the launch of Apollo 11.

AIDs hadn't yet hit. Not long ago I saw "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" about the '70's single's bar culture. In one scene, the nice Irish Catholic guy who is about to bed Diane Keaton (a slut who comes to a very bad end) pulls a condom out of his pocket and she roars with laughter, grabs the condom, blows it into a balloon and ridicules the poor guy so much he flees from her apartment.

Ah yes, young'uns, there was a time when condoms were considered as passe as Brylcream and poodle skirts. The scene jolted me because in a few years after the film was made, suddenly condoms weren't so funny anymore.

It will look like it was written by a liberal arts major for liberal arts majors."

63 So i set up the new computer. Can't get any video out of the HDMI port.

It is a new cable, so I see three possibilities:

1) Bad HDMI port - the card is doing fine on the DVI port, so it isn't the whole graphics card

2) Bad HDMI cable - just picked it up today and I have nothing else to test it with

3) I noticed that the case has a small bump above the port, so it is not quite as far in as it could be since it bumps against the plastic molding of the cable's connector.

"The 80's definitely gave the 70's a run for the money when it comes to style.... "

Ah, I miss '80's clothes. I'm tall, with narrow shoulders and a small waist (it was smaller then) and I was able to pull off the shoulder pads and big belts and big hair and jewelry. Good for tall women with hourglass figures. Not a good look for more petite types though. The problem with the shoulder pads was when the sewn-in ones in sweaters would get all lumpy when you washed them, so you'd then look like you had some sort of weird deformation. I'd cut the pads out, but then the sweater wouldn't fit exactly right.

83 Good evening. Wonder Woman...of all the superheroes out there Wonder Woman has to be the worst defined. All look with little substance. She's an icon, recognizable damn near everywhere. But try defining the character. If Superman stands for Truth, Justice and the American Way (with an archnemesis in Lex Luthor) and Batman is basically vengeance personified (with an archnemesis in the Joker) what does Wonder Woman represent? Can you name her archnemesis? Bingo! Wonder Woman *maybe* represents some squishy feminist ideal but feminism itself has too many strands ranging from insubstantial to ludicrous. So, can we find her reason for being in her archnemesis? That would be...uuuuhhhh...well, shit. She doesn't really seem to have one. Fights with her mother a lot, though. Short version: Wonder Woman sucks.

When people in the rest of the EU realize that if they do it in Cyprus, they'll do it in Spain, Italy, Greece, etc, they'll be getting their money out as well.

Anyone with any sense about the banking system knows this is epic stupidity, which is why this is end-game stuff and tells us Don Corleone as it were has made them an offer they can't refuse.

109 Wonder Woman was a sort of squishy feminism-from-a-lefty-pervo-guy's POV thing initially, but her history has been rewritten several times. Still a second-tier superhero despite the popularity. Now she's apparently an exile goddess, has several major enemies, and since she's not just an amazon anymore she has godlike strength and stuff. Pummels supervillains with other supervillains. Still kind of superficial, though people have tried to bring Greek mythology forward using her.

George Roop fought. He used to be a lightweight - 155 lb. Then he moved down to featherweight - 145. Now he's at 135. Oh, he's 6'1. 6'1 135. Most of the 135 guys are 5'6 or so. Guy looked like he walked out of a concentration camp. And he won.

Reminder: Comcast own PMSNBC.

Decouple your email from your ISP. You should rely only on Comcast for moving packets around. This will also save you a world of pain when you dump them for a different ISP or when you move and can't get Comcast at your new location.

"I cannot receive the Rush Limbaugh daily email, I get it at my work email and forward home."

Every human resources pro I know says, "Don't allow your work e-mail in-box to contain anything other than work-related e-mail, EVAR." Turn that shit off until you get yourself your own private webmail address somewhere other than work or Comcast.

I complemented well with the stout, breaking into the vacation money so I could extend the free ones.  Fell asleep on the on-and-off bus afterward, missed my stop, and looped around Dublin one more time.  Nice town, though it takes a long time to loop around it twice.  They don't rob the drunks who pass out on their buses - so they got that going for them.

Busch Gardens in Van Nuys, CA had a small amusement park and brewery tours. Unfortunately, (1) I was too young for the beer in those wondrous times, and (2) it was all Bud and Michelob.

Posted by: cthulhu at March 16, 2013 07:11 PM (kaalw)

259 The Samuel Adams tour in Boston is most excellent. They take you out to the brewery shop floor and say "The water comes in over there and goes into that big tank there where we add the grains and hops and heat it and after x amount of time it goes through these pipes into this tank, then on to the bottling process. Any questions? Great, let's head to the Tasting Room and drink some beer." So you go to the Tasting Room and they start dropping pitchers of beer on the table. Highly recommended.

260 Schlitz, before they went broke, opened a brewery in Winston Salem, still there, and they finally had to cut off the beer cause the Wake guys would not leave. There is a Miller brewery in NC too. Sierra Nevada is opening one in the Mts. next year.

Early on, they realized that there were people who would say things like "exerting political power into every aspect of someone's life is as bad as _______ -- you just can't do that!" So they've taken every possible horror and depravity -- and mere social gaffes and eccentricities -- and made them "just as good as" the golden age we've enjoyed.

Accordingly, you cannot say that bestiality is just as bad as child prostitution -- because they'll argue that neither bestiality nor child prostitution is any worse than how things are today. Institutionalized racism, political determination of belief and conscience, slavery, beheading apostates, stoning rape victims.....it's all watered down and devalued, so that the ultimate lefty totalitarian control can't look bad.

361 I wish these UFC guys weren't suffering brain damage. Takes away my enjoyment. These guys are generally pretty impressive people. Hard work. Dedication. With all the jiu-jitsu, grappling, wrestling, boxing -- it's become a remarkably technical sport. And, in general, they behave very honorably and are good sportsman, treating each other with respect after the fight is over. But there's little doubt they are inflicting some serious brain damage on each other.

Superman has super strength, so he just compresses his Clark Kent suit into a wafer the size of a poker chip, and slips it into a hidden pocket of his Super Suit. But, really, I agree whole-heartedly that there is a great deal of the Superman mythos that simply fails to make any kind of physical sense. Like, for instance, why does he fly? There's no evident source of propulsion.

No. The 40% was the agreed figure between the German financial minister (who holds all sorts of strings, since their the only thing holding the EU above water) and the IMF for a bailout the Cypriot government needed to keep making payments on past debts. Cyprus came to the negotiation with the position that the money should have no strings or they'd abandon the EU. The bailout money itself came from the EU central bank, though the whole thing is so incestuous, that hardly matters.

Cyprus banks have been in the toilet for a while now, though.  Their condition was well known.  Their stock value plummeted years ago.  Nobody knew that this, specifically, would happened, but everybody should have known it wasn't a safe place to keep your savings.

You might as well have left your money in a cardboard box with a "don't steal" post-it note on it.

529 So the Government of Cyprus needs the cash to keep paying themselves, they negotiate a deal in which they take over a long weekend 10% of what cash they can get from people, easily. Basically they take a slice of electronic, liquid assets. If you were a Euro, why keep anything in electronic, liquid assets anywhere the EU could lay their mitts on them. Pay your bills by credit card, pay the credit card by money order, keep €20 in the bank. I hope Lew isn't watching this.

552 From Mish's place: http://is.gd/gkcfDK Why would any rational thinking Spanish person keep any money in Spanish banks? They shouldn't and I suspect they won't. Moreover, this is bound to further inflame the situation in Italy, where Beppe Grillo's Five Star Movement is already the largest party. In short, this action was one of the single stupidest things the EU could have done and they crammed it down the throats of all Cyprus citizens, hoping to stop the spread of contagion. My friend Bernd who lives in Germany had these comments. "Judging by the German forums on Focus, Der Spiegel, SZ, FAZ and Die Zeit, there is hardly any support for this action. The name calling and swearing is rather blunt. These guys did not study their Machiavelli. He said roughly if you hurt people, you must never hurt all of them at once." The closest Machiavelli quote I can find is "If you need to injure someone, do it in such a way that you do not have to fear their vengeance." Rest assured there is going to be vengeance over this action. The Cyprus government will fall, and deposit fear will spread everywhere.

I'm still reading on Cyprus. If I had to take a guess at any type of event that would officially mark the start of "DOOM", this would be it.

Outside of paying short term bills as Methos pointed out, no one has any reason to keep more than a couple weeks worth of cash in any European bank.

Posted by: Stateless Infidel at March 16, 2013 08:35 PM (AC0lD)

554 Cyprus banks have been in the toilet for a while now, though. Their condition was well known. Their stock value plummeted years ago. Nobody knew that this, specifically, would happened, but everybody should have known it wasn't a safe place to keep your savings.

Ah, okay, I mistook what you meant.

On another note, given that our stock market is at an all time high, this would be a good time to get out. Banks looking to cover the deposit withdrawals that are certainly going to start tomorrow night have to raise cash somewhere and if that means selling our stocks (if they have any, and who even knows at this point), that's what they're going to do. And that's before getting into any cascade effects.

Most writers have kryptonite as the remnants of why the place blew up. Everybody would have died of the radiation if the whole kablooey thing didn't get them first. Imagine if the core of Earth were being converted to plutonium.

Further elaboration goes into whether this was a natural event, something the Kryptonians brought on themselves, or the act of somebody like Brainiac, who likes to enhance the value of the cities his shrinks and steals by killing off the rest of the planet.

The most recent version has Superman's costume only having the indestructible cape that came with him in the ship that brought him here as the sole item he didn't just buy in a store. A t-shirt with the family crest, jeans, and work boots. It isn't until he runs into Brainiac that he acquires the suit of Kryptonian armor. He doesn't need armor, of course, but it has a lot of other valuable features.

I guess Grant Morrison didn't like the traditional premise of Ma Kent reweaving the baby blankets to make the costume.

Posted by: Grumpy Cat at March 17, 2013 01:08 AM (j3uk1)

Putin has been propping up Cyprus as the RM's banker. The haircut is just a price of doing business. 10% is a lot less than what they would have to do to launder their money through legitimate banks.

Plus, Putin will have the KGB look the other way while the RM makes up their losses.

As far as I can see, the best result possible for Western Civilization is for a bunch of decorations to be hanging on lampposts. If banksters can cram down a penalty against depositors (liabilities to the bank) while continuing to kiss up to borrowers (like governments and schemers) to retain their positions as financial gods, it's a short kick to the big one. If banks are instead liquidated -- where 100 Gazillion in liabilities is deemed satisfied by 90 Gazillion in assets, but the idiots who put things there are taken out and fit with hemp neckties.....that could work. But the idea that banks can continue the practices that put them underwater and rape the guys who trusted them enough to give them money is not a long-term solution.

That said, I'm sure that the governments involved see no problem with this.

At the post-fight press conference Diaz no-showed. But then 30 min in he showed up, said GSP punches like a pussy and demanded a rematch. Then he went into a long whine about how hard his life is and how nobody like him and nobody helps him. And then he let slipped that he's never paid taxes. Ever. In his life. Which is an issue since the UFC has been paying him hundreds of thousands of dollars for a good # of years now. Diaz has no filter. Which makes him a good quote. Might get his ass thrown in jail, too.

771 AP, #722 -- Ford (and all other major manufacturers) has regional offices that usually include a service rep to handle customer problems. If you live in/near a big city, should be easy to find.

You could also look in the owner's manual where there should be a "what to do" section buried under all the Warnings, Cautions and Notices.

Usually they will co-pay with you. You have to get skin in the game, but it made me feel much better on a couple of expensive repairs.

780 Infidel it is far worse now.  Ranted epically though without profanity on FB about this.

The stock Shaker 500 sound system spat out a language CD as a bad disc.  Slot 6.  CD had water droplets on it.  The CD-R with MP3s in slot 5 was ejected by me and it too had a few water droplets.

Driving on the Interstate to exercise the car.  Engage cruise control.  Bumps in the road disengage cruise control.  Repeatedly.

Stop at a fast food place and go inside to eat.  Lock car.  Come out and I see my brake lights on.  Click remote to unlock, brake likes stay on.  Click to lock.  Brake lights stay on.  Unlock and press brake pedal, brake lights go out.  Crank up car and drive home.

Cruise control still does not work on drive back.  Get home and turn car off.  Get out and look at brake lights, they are on.  Pump break pedal and lights go out.

So I call the Service Dept supervisor's number.  Voice mail picks up and I start telling story.  Then supervisor dials me back and talk to him.  He gets offended for me calling his workers incompetent and I reply they were the ones accusing me of putting in after market headlights to explain why the new fog light did not work.

He wants me to bring it in Monday and he is making noises its the brake switch at $100.  And I am still telling him this car was working fine until his people worked on it.

782 Hope everyone realizes that the Euros have just screwed the banking system worldwide.

They have demonstrated very clearly even to the most casual observer that any money you have out of your personal control is at risk.

AT ANY TIME. WITH NO WARNING.

If any other government decides this is the thing to do, for whatever reason, there will be no warning, warning signs.

Anyone who keeps more than 200-300 in a bank account (or whatever is sufficient to cover daily/weekly normal at will expenditures) is a fool.

Possible sources MAY be prepaid debit cards. Those may be slightly harder to get to administratively but they come from a bank so a blanket order would probably cover them also and the fees make it of less convenience.

They're confidant that how and what they did will not affect the bank industry. THEY'RE IGNORANT FOOLS.

No one who's seen this can miss the implications.

Watch for a bank run on Monday or Tuesday in Europe and maybe even here in the larger cities as those will have more foreigners who will be trying to cover themselves if they have any assets or relatives in Cyprus.

This is what happens when Bankers and Brokers are allowed to run things.

789 Anna. Did they change the BULB or change the FIXTURE?

An incorrect or damaged bulb could cause grounding problems. A fixture ditto but less easy to find/replace to check if it works.

I've seen you comment on this before and I'm convinced you've got a ground/short that is imbalancing the system.

Because everything is done through the computer a bad signal on an input line could've damaged the cpu or is giving incorrect readings to other input lines.

Also, if they put in the fixture, they could've connected the wires wrong and is causing the ground/short.

Of course this is an offhand comment with minimal information and no way to do the required voltage and continuity checks to eliminate the various possibilities.

That and I could be as full of shit as a christmas goose.

However in my defense, I worked on missile radars in the military and they are very sensitive buggers which will go wonky if a single line happens to have been reversed or incorrectly attached. (been there done that, sweated hours going through troubleshooting manuals only to find the manu. installed a relay incorrectly. Grrrrrr)

790 As to disrespect for the females by auto mechs/service writers; they mostly see suzy homemaker types who could careless and know less about a car than a dog does about a bicycle.

It breeds contempt that can bleed through the phony smarm.

Read up about them and ask questions from those who know that you know.

Don't go to places that don't respect the customer as contempt can be a poisonous attitude that affects more than their personal interaction with you. They may feel your dissing them or that you are a threat.

Go elsewhere.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at March 17, 2013 04:42 AM (Kpn/z)

791 Bitter Clinger I had to special order the bulb from Ford.  Its a Ford only bulb made in France.  And online comments had indicated its tough to replace.  So decided to let dealership do it.

Bitter Clinger so you know what happens next.  Well the fog light they claimed was not working worked for me on the day after and has worked since.  Samantha and the supervisor both thought possible short.  And then tried to downplay the risk of a short.  I insisted on them checking it out.  So I took it back and they ran diagnostics.  No shorts in system found.

And now all this new junk happening.
