Good luck to all you morons who are playin' Powerball or MegaMillions. Of course, you'd have better odds just playing some poker with your neighbors or playing some blackjack at the local casino but hey, it is fun to dream of winning a large jackpot like that.
At this point in scandalpalooza, I don't think the IRS can ever be trusted to do their job in a non-political, professional way. Not when you have a largely unioned work force that overwhelmingly donates and supports Democrats and is largely incompetent. Are you willing to now trust them to oversee Obamacare compliance? I'm not. I have zero faith in their ability to their jobs in a fair and impartial way. Factor in the Administration's response by asking for resignations from someone who was retiring anyway and from another guy who had been in the job a week, they really aren't serious in addressing what is wrong with the IRS. Resignations aren't enough either. Jail time needs to happen. You know, serious repercussions. Otherwise it's like the 4 State Department folks that got fired for Benghazi. They lay low, wait a bit and then come right on back into a job paid for with taxpayer money.
Now, in regard as to how to proceed, I think Ben Domenech is exactly right here. Republicans and the long game.
HereÂ’s the hard thing Republicans have to do if they donÂ’t want this crisis to go to waste: they have to ignore their id, the temptation of the sugar high of partisan point-scoring. They must willfully set aside ObamaÂ’s presence in the fray, leaving the short term personalized attacks on the table, and go after the much bigger prize. Obama isnÂ’t running for office again. Liberalism is. Making this about him is a short term boost to the pleasure center of the conservative brain. Making this about the inherent falsehood of the progressive project will help conservatism win.Rising PBR PriceThe point is that these scandals cut at the core conceit of ObamaÂ’s ideology: the healthy and enduring confidence of big government to be good government.

Hipsters are to blame for rising Pabst Blue Ribbon costs?
A cheap glass of beer is fast becoming an endangered species in New York City - and you can blame Pabst Blue Ribbon-swilling hipsters for that. They are the reason why "sub-premium" beer prices in the city have climbed 9.4% in the last seven months, say Restaurant Sciences, which tracks food and beverage sales nationwide.
"I believe the single biggest driver in sub-premium beer price increases is indeed specifically PBR," said Chuck Ellis, who heads the research company. "It has become quite fashionable."
Damn hippies. Is val-u-rite next?

Missile Defense

Not too shabby for a system that does not work (if you listen to Democrats). MDA destroys ballistic missile in successful BMD test.
The target missile – fired from a test range in Hawaii at 5:25 p.m. local time on Wednesday – was detected by the SPY-1 radar aboard USS Lake Erie (CG-70). The ship launched a SM-3 Block IB equipped with a BMD kill vehicle that successfully destroyed the simulated threat missile in low Earth orbit.
But don't forget, the President is now in his more "flexible" time that he alluded to Medvedev last year so I get a bit concerned when I hear the Pentagon plans to share missile secrets with Russia.
Motorcycle

This is one sweet ass ride. Man puts plane engine in motorbike.
This is the Red Baron - a chopper powered by a 150hp nine-cylinder Rotec Radial R3600 aircraft engine. Unbelievably, working out the fiendishly complex engineering involved in transferring drive to the rear of the engine, and building a custom chassis (not to mention painting, suspension, electronics...) took its owner, Frank Ohle, just 18 months.
Dog Story

Meet Pep, the dog who was sentenced to life in prison in 1924 for killing the governor's cat. Actually, the cat killin' part was made up by a reporter (stuff we still see in today's news) and he really wasn't sentenced to life in prison.
The account of him killing the cat was entirely fictitious, made up by a newspaper reporter taking a touch more than his fair share of journalistic licence.
The editor loved the story as it was frequently reprinted bearing the mugshot picture.

Repeal the Sixteenth Amendment first.
Replace it with an amendment which allows Congress to choose either of 1) a flat tax on all income from whatever source derived, or 2) a single percentage, point-of-final-retail-sales tax, one or the other but not both. Severely restrict if not prohibit any screwing around with either the flat tax percentage or the retail sales tax percentage. NO WIGGLE ROOM for Congress.
The penultimate sentence of the Amendment will specify a summary death penalty, to be administered by any citizen, for any federal employee--from President to Congress to Supreme Court on down--who even suggests screwing around with so much as a single penumbra and emanation of the article.
The final sentence will read, in its entirety: "And we mean it."

Run it through the car wash first thing in the morning, vacuum it out and register at the show. Either that or register for display only and enjoy the rest of the sights.
I don't usually enter mine for judging, but since I spent all day cleaning it up and denied myself the simple pleasure of a top-down cruise in the beautiful weather we had today I'm hoping to get a Top 50 at least. If not, it will be back to display only for me from here on out, too much work involved in getting it ready to be judged.

Honestly I didn't care about Brenda. She had no personality on the show. So she would have won. And yeah glad Cochran won of them. Dawn was a whiny bitch, and Sherry was clearly too stupid to realize why she got to be at the end. And it does play into my idea on the best way to win. Be the ally of the person that pisses everyone off. That's exactly what Dawn did. And Cochran didn't piss anyone off. The only way a nonentity like Sherry wins is if you get a case of both strategists pissing everyone off.
I'm curious about next season which is "Blood and Water." Which clearly means family members are going to be the makeup of the tribes. But are they going to put family members on the same tribes or have them on the opposite tribes.

Randy Barrnett put together a serious suggestion for such a thing that would avoid some of the risk by the passing of identical legislation that simultaneously calls for the ConConvention and passes identical legislation.
If a single state passes modified legislation in the call for teh ConConvention it is rendered null and void.

Thing about an Article V convention is that the entire apparatus of the Federal Government is Out Of The Equation.
It's between the States.
If the States say it's an Article V Convention, it's an Article V Convention. Before or after the fact.

It was only 1 percent, but still its almost a screwing over to tell the pregnant girl "you could win $100,000" but oh nope too bad. And I think that he might actually be relatively grounded. Last season he mentioned how he did overseas teaching of kids so he actually is a pretty decent guy. I thought the best final three would have been Malcolm Cochran and Andrea. All strong players with strategies that could have swung the jury. That of course is the sort of final that will never happen for exactly that reason.

But since an Article V convention is totally uncharted territory, it's not entirely clear that Prof. Bennett's opinion is necessarily binding.

yup, there is a psychological phenomenon, called the 'triangle test'
take 2 similar beverages and prepare 3 samples, 2 of one and 1 of the other, and arrange them in a triangle
Then, ask the subject to taste all three, and try to identify any one of them. They can't do it.

Lithgow joined the Ellen Jamesians -- women who cut off their tongue in support of a rape victim, Ellen James, who's attacker cut out her tongue to keep her from telling.
it was a wacky novel, and John Irving had another wacky novel made into a lousy movie -- it had 'New Hampshire' in the title, I think. Hotel New Hampshire, maybe.
It starred Beau Bridges, Jodie Foster, and Matthew Modine...who rapes her. And her brother is Rob Lowe...and I think they have sex too. Yeah, wacky off the wall stuff.
Or as I like to call it: Real crap.

Lithgow's character, a transexual former NFL player now known as Roberta, did not join the Ellen Jamesians. Roberta was just one of people hanging out at Garp's mother's home when they became friends. The Ellen Jamesians were the pinnacle of lunatic feminism and it's one of them, who is also a childhood acquaintance of Garp, who murders him.
I don't care for John Irving but I read that one book several times as a kid because it was so bizarre.

It was a relatively cheap way to create unsettling environments. I think he picked it up from going to night time baseball games and spending lots of time in theaters. Both can be disorienting when you leave and find it isn't the time of day your brain has come to believe it is.
Spielberg co-wrote (he initiated the screenplay and handed it to others to make function) and produced but didn't direct 'Poltergeist.' A major effect on that production was achieved by shining spotlights through fish tanks full of water.

Car dealers who were pro-GOP and were shut down by Government Motors are now going after Barry and Friends. Remember the strange decisions about which dealerships were being shut down. I recall several guys on tv saying they had the most successful dealerships in their area--shut down.
Same happened in my area. Sounds like it just might have happened that way after what we've witnessed with IRS and their training in the The Chicago Way.

Was at the geek counter at Best Buy a year ago and a "person" was in front of me. He/she was a transsexual with breasts but was still clearly a man. He/she made Rosie O'donnell look like Cindy Crawford. After "it" left, I made a comment to the guy at the counter who just died laughing. I think that kid at the counter just wanted something to relieve the "what the fuck was that" that he was feeling, and my comment provided the comic relief he needed. Needless to say, in another year I will probably be prosecuted for a hate crime.

WAKE UP someone is talking Benghazi to CBS news and I think it is Hillary, who is throwing Kennedy under the bus!!
Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath.
The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up." Nonetheless, in the eight months since the attacks, this is the most sweeping and detailed discussion by key players of what might have been done differently.
"We're portrayed by Republicans as either being lying or idiots," said one Obama administration official who was part of the Benghazi response. "It's actually closer to us being idiots."

Thursday, an administration official who was part of the Benghazi response told CBS News: "I wish we'd sent it."
The official said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's deputy, Patrick Kennedy, quickly dispensed with the idea. A senior State Department official Thursday told CBS News, "Under Secretary Kennedy is not in the decision chain on FEST deployment" but would not directly confirm whether Kennedy or somebody else dismissed the FEST team.
Whoever made the decision, it came amid sharp disagreement over the FEST's true capabilities. Kennedy and others at the State Department view the team as one that primarily restores communications at besieged embassies. However, the FEST's own mission statement describes a seasoned team of counterterrorism professionals who can respond "quickly and effectively to terrorist attacks... providing the fastest assistance possible" including "hostage negotiating expertise" and "time-sensitive information and intelligence

Under presidential directive, an interagency task force called the Counterterrorism Security Group (CSG) is to be convened when emergency terrorist events are suspected. According to a public military document, it's part of a plan to "synchronize the efforts of all the government agencies that have a role to play in the Global War on Terrorism." But on Sept. 11, 2012, the Obama administration did not convene this body of terrorism expert advisers.
One official associated with the State Department now acknowledges that the CSG would probably have advised decision makers that FEST "was not just backup generator and radios." Said the official: "the CSG could have made the argument, they were upset that they weren't heard." Another former Defense Department official says he finds no merit to using the CSG. "I'd like to hear them say what they could have done."
Last October, National Security Council (NSC) Spokesman Tommy Vietor told CBS News that the CSG wasn't needed because consultations were quickly underway at the highest levels. He indicated that, under the Obama administration, the function of the CSG has become a "lower level group" that "does different tasks" than under the Bush administration. "From the moment [President Obama] was briefed on the Benghazi attack, the response effort was handled by the most senior national security officials in government. Members of the CSG were of course involved in these meetings and discussions to support their bosses," said Vietor

On Sept. 14, the CIA's early version of the talking points credited the CIA with providing warnings on Sept. 10, 2012, that the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, could come under attack and that Benghazi was in a precarious state. Others in the Obama administration saw this talking point comment as an instinctive, "knee-jerk cover your ass moment" on the CIA's part and some officials remain bitter today.
One of them said, "We thought, 'why are you guys throwing us under the bus?' ...They [CIA] made it seem like the State Department was given a warning they ignored. No specific warning was given." Petraeus, who resigned amid a sex scandal days after Mr. Obama's re-election, declined comment

There, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper revealed that Benghazi "had all the earmarks of a premeditated attack."
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., stormed out of the room and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says he uttered an expletive to a colleague sitting next to him. From the view of one Obama administration official who was present, "Something just snapped. [Senators] started yelling and screaming 'Why did Susan [Rice] lie?'"
"It was a turning point," said the Obama administration official. "It was just a stark shift from Sunday with no groundwork laid. [Senators] just snapped... Susan was done."

We were given an early day off by one of our senior VP's for a job well done getting a product to market. He said we could leave at 2PM, but everyone took off at 11AM. LOL!!!
I didn't do anything special. Came home and mowed the lawn since it was about a foot tall and we got an email from our HOA saying they were coming to repo the house if we don't mow. My wife was freaking out and I had to calm her down saying they really couldn't do anything to us. Almost had to go Sean Connery on her!

2. the CSG was never convened because the JEF doesn't use it
3. they had no idea what the FEST team was or what it did, because they didn't convene the CSG
4. State felt the CIA was throwing them under the bus, and that's why they changed the talking points

The official said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's deputy, Patrick Kennedy, quickly dispensed with the idea (of using the FEST). A senior State Department official Thursday told CBS News, "Under Secretary Kennedy is not in the decision chain on FEST deployment" but would not directly confirm whether Kennedy or somebody else dismissed the FEST

They don't really need it for an emulation. Just the ISO files. And a remake only needs the design documents. They'd start with a new engine and redo the art from scratch. Though they should keep the fake spoken language.
Sega produced a PC version in Japan that was the same binaries running under emulation. There was a quite good Saturn emulator project that they brought in-house with a few briefcases full of 10K Yen notes and used for selling Saturn games on PC. Unfortunately, they never saw fit to make the emulator available after they ended the product line. Considering the PC nature of both upcoming consoles, they should dust it off and get some of that product back in circulation.

can't emulate it since the rendering on the Saturn is completely different than everything thing else been made (quads instead of triangles). And if you want them to remake it with a new engine and art, their better off with just making a new game which I don't see happening outside of Microsoft since they seem to have quite the fondness to the IP (considering they paid Sega to make Orta and then hired the people behind the series to make Crimson Dragon).

Don't be silly. Of course you can emulate it. It's been done, as I already mentioned.
N64 used quads, too. So did Nvidia's first chip, which had a version of Panzer Dragoon made for it, by no small coincidence. (It also did audio, which didn't turn out to be much of a selling point.) There was a contingent within SGI that was very big on quads. Some of them founded Nvidia. Others did the N64 design before leaving to form a new company ArtX, which was working on the GameCube design when they were acquired by ATI.
Emulating any of these machines can be done entirely in software and that can be necessary when you have functions that cannot be readily mapped to more mainstream hardware such as modern GPUs. The Saturn is no big deal in terms of horsepower. The lack of good emulators, other than the one Sega bought, is due more to its ridiculous complexity. A lot of the best software for the Saturn completely ignored big chunks of the hardware to treat it as a pure 2D machine. Developers looking to do 3D were pretty much on their own on filling in some of the blanks in Sega's haphazard design, which in turn complicated things for emulator coders because different games take such different approaches to how they get things done.
Most of the time, when you get an emulator working well with one game, a bunch of others that use same engine or general techniques fall into place. This is why so many forgettable titles made it into the Xbox 360 backward compatibility support. They were freebies once more prominent titles were working well.
Sega emulated Saturn games on PC ran fine on late generation P-III systems with Intel IGA. A current CPU wouldn't even break a sweat. If you use the saved binary translation technique Microsoft used on the Xbox 360 for Xbox emulation, you would scarcely need 10% of a Core i3 to do the job.

What I'm saying is the reason is not technical. I suspect there is somebody in a position of power at Sega who doesn't like certain IP and would rather let it remain unavailable. Kind of like the TPTB at Fox who hated certain genres and killed off a bunch of shows like Firefly by putting them in the worst possible slots. During the World Series, no less.

Actually, I had several copies of the original cart. Found them in a Goodwill store and made a pretty nice profit moving them through Ebay. I had a similar experience with finding four copies of PDS in a pawn shop for $20 each. (I already had a copy of my own I'd bought when it made its brief US retail appearance.) They went for about $100 each in auctions. I used to do pretty well on that sort of stuff but it got too crowded.
I wouldn't have bothered with Super Metroid at the regular eShop price for SNES titles but 30 cents made it hard to resist. If Nintendo's eShop prices were more reasonable they'd easily make up the difference in volume.

I never knew dry heaving could hurt so much. Before that, I could have cut steel with the projectile vomit stream.
Most folks don't know: Rosie O'Donnell has been swallowed by whales at least five times-- and was always saved by the resultant violent vomiting.
She's just way too bitter and fatty for anyone to keep down.

I never thought you did...but then again....your Dad....
I will tell you this...I was at Stan and Berk...playing around in the early 80's
not willing to go more than that........it was a job. I was more into medicine and a neophyte of Shumway and DeBakey......wish I would have taken the ride offered by DeBakey.....but I was a party boy....livin in the Bay area and not giving the props to an offer by Dr. DeBakey......missed options....stupid youth and other foul mis-steps that I would rather forget.....

A store just recently opened at my local mall called Book-Off. Rows and rows of used books, DVDs, Blu-Rays, and video games for every popular format. Prices not bad too, and everything appeared at least to be in good condition or better.
Wouldn't surprise me if second-hand stores like the above continue to do well for awhile.

This made no sense when the Apple and Atari were so similar. I knew developers who'd done the primary porting of a game from the Apple II to the Atari over a weekend. It was that easy if you didn't care about adding any improvement via the Atari hardware. Back then, it was common for one guy to develop an Apple II game and port it to both the Atari and Commodore 64. (You could tell them apart bythe differences in the artifacted color the machines produced.) No, the reason EA held back the game's release was that they thought a new copy protection scheme was really going to work. I had a file of the game the same day it showed up at retail.

They bought Bullfrog and basically every game that that company made was blackballed and will never see the light of day. They bought Origin (wing commander) and Pandemic (star wars battlefront) and shut them down. They bought Bioware and has turned that company to crap.
Not to mention the 1.84 million expansion packs to their Sims games from Maxis and their most recent escapade with always online DRM failure with Simcity 5.

Waterhouse, they are Hollywood starlets. They have never heard the word Hallelujah.
Jacques Cousteau, two of those whales died after swallowing Ro'D. One by suicide. The others haven't been right since.
Oh, and checked on the neighbors at 1:05 to 1:15 when their dog alerted on something.

CBS Saturday morning just covered scandal-gates. The crawl on the bottom of the screen was something like "Are Republicans being fair" and then the question was asked "can republicans keep this up without appearing partisan"
you know cause these scandals are all about Republicans...

It is so time to kick these fuckers off the planet en large and total
Bad elections can be corrected by a will of the Majority
We only have to destroy the minority that run the show....

^^^^^ THIS!! ^^^^^
Too many people in the Republican "mainstream," Political Pundits and Our Betters in the Blogosphere are busy looking at the "optics" and political consequences of forcing Choom Boy and his regime to obey the law., without taking the effects of rampant abuse of power into consideration.
Controls and limitations were written into the Constitution for a reason, people. The Founders envisioned knaves and traitors abusing the system, and wrote sensible laws to counter them. What they apparently did not imagine was rampant cowardice and posturing among the guardians of the law.
If we let the Mr Nice Guy tactics prevail -- see NR, Poppin' Fresh, the Republicans in D.C.for examples -- we will be wiped out as a free republic. We will become North Korea with more food and lots of "reaching across the aisle" sweetness.
But to right the ship requires that someone with influence take the first step and demand accountability. Forget all that nonsense about hurt feelings, racism and all-pals-together.
Our government has essentially destroyed itself. We must stop it from destroying us as well.
Who will have the integrity to be first to rein in the felons, incompetents and traitors? I don't see anyone.

It occurs to me that all this talk of future political victories is still built on an assumption of a level playing field.
Which we most assuredly do NOT have.
Posted by: USS Diversity at May 18, 2013 03:38 AM (hC80d)
This past election was stolen by intimidation and fraud. Unless we prosecute them, all future elections will proceed the same way. This is a watershed moment.

standing on the walls....while all else slept(Sleep) safe in their beds!

That is one interpretation. My experience is that it is a tax on desperate people. I understand that your chance of winning the lottery if you buy a ticket is not much better than your chance of winning the lottery if you don't buy a ticket but there was a time in my life when I worked at a job that I hated and came home to a wife who had just had a baby and was insane from hormones. All the time I was home was an endless harangue and some times it would start up in the middle of the night if she woke up. Usually the theme of these diatribes was money. I used to buy a lottery ticket every week in those days.
Eventually I got a better job that paid more money and things calmed down at home. I did not buy lottery tickets then.

Also, just made a $10 donation to the State of California in the form of 10 numbers on tonight's lotto. I hear they give door prizes sometimes but I've yet to see one.
