ObamaCare 'propaganda' on our favorite shows?

Here IÂ’ll just pause to remind the entertainment industry that it has about half the approval rating of the NRA. (In January, at the peak of NRA attacks, the gun-rights group had a 44% favorability score as against 24% for the entertainment industry, an NBC News/WSJ poll found).

Nor is pushing politics a winning business model: In the last frenzy of Hollywood propaganda, during the mid-2000s peak of Bush Derangement Syndrome, we were treated to such dismal and didactic Iraq War dramas as “Lions for Lambs” (final gross: $15 million), “In the Valley of Elah” ($6.8 million) and “Grace Is Gone” ($51,000 — that’s right, thousand, as in “less than the cost of the Evian they drank on the set”).

At least those films werenÂ’t planted by the White House, though. This time itÂ’s different. An industry that loves to trumpet its fierce devotion to the First Amendment is putting itself at risk when it willingly becomes another tool of the DC power elite.

Government At Work

Water supply cut off after man urinates into reservoir. So they proceed to dump 7.8 million gallons of water. Stephen Goddard asks a good question. What do they think about 50 billion animals in the forest passing their bodily waste into the water supply?

An administrator for the Water Bureau, David Shaff, said that because of this incident, roughly 7.8 million gallons of drinking water will be discarded. He said the bureau often finds dead animals in the same drinking supply but the water isnÂ’t dumped.

Indiana Jones

[Click for animated gif]

Interesting discussion. Did Indy matter?

In a recent episode of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon introduces his girlfriend, Amy, to the Raiders of the Lost Ark, which she’d never seen before. She liked the movie, she explains, despite the big “story problem.” Sheldon is aghast at the suggestion there could be any story problems with the “love child” of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. “What story problem?” he demands to know. She explains that Indiana Jones is absolutely irrelevant to the story. If he’d never gotten involved, the Nazis would have still found the ark of the covenant, they would have still brought it to that island, and they would have still had their faces melted.

Cat Smugglers

Evidently, cats are becoming pretty adept at smuggling things into prison. Cannabis cat on a drug run collared at Moldova jail.

A cat was recently used to smuggle mobile phones into a Russian jail.

Guards caught it climbing a fence at the jail in Syktyvkar in June, the Moscow Times reported at the time, adding a photo of the creature being held by the scruff of its neck, the phones and chargers taped to its body.

It was just one of several attempts discovered in recent years, with cats at other jails being used to deliver heroin, the paper noted.

It never surprises me that the people who own/control the media companies would use media companies to attempt to bolster the politicians they own.  Why wouldn't they?  They spent a lot of money and went to a lot of trouble to gain ownership of those politicians.  Why would they let that go before they get the full return possible from their investment?

93 Good evening fapsters and fapstresses. Gumbo is cooking here in sunny north Thailand. Southern boys all around so at least we eat well. 99 Your point? *** I have a friend who, until her 30's still thought a Rhett-type was going to sweep her off her feet. She had an entire bookshelf filled with GWTW memorabilia. One day we were sitting around watching tv and I suddenly, just out of the blue, decided to screw with her. So, I said, "You know, Scarlett O'Hara really was kind of a whore" There is no other way to put it other than to say my friend lost her shit that day. A year or so later I was retelling the story to a couple of folks at work and my friend walked up. I was laughing and told her what we were discussing and, I swear, she went off again, right there in front of our co-workers. They were left speechless other than to tell me that they thought I had been exaggerating until that moment.

I waited an hour because Paul was pissed because last time they left him helpless in the hall all night. I was up very early this morning, 4 am and they had him in CCU. Critical Care Unit in ME, vs ICU here. He called me earlier and has double pneumonia and itÂ’s deep in his lungs. IÂ’m not sure what that means. I have to go find something to eat. I asked, "What are you planning to do for lung cancer awareness?  It's a greater killer of women than breast cancer.  My best friend and husband's aunt are dying of it."  Silence.  "Or heart disease awareness?  Killed my mother and her mother and my father's mother.  It's also a greater killer of women that breast cancer."  Silence.

I must say, on the ride through Macon toward Atlanta, the medians were covered for miles with brilliant pink wildflowers.

Now I'm feelin the ambien.  Later, all.

190 I remember watching the "Went With the Wind" parody as a young teen when it first aired in 1976. Carol's show was one of my favourites especially once Tim Conway joined the cast and began breaking everyone up like Korman in the dentist sketch. The American Experience programme about Burnett was pretty good too from a few months ago IIRC.

212 Late arrival, but I really did enjoy the A-10 pron. Way back when I went through pilot training (the A-10 was relatively new then) they showed us 'motivational' videos and one had the Warthog going through its paces. The one that really got my attention was field testing against some Russian tanks the Israel's took possession of. After the smoke cleared, there was a nice view where one of the projectiles made a hole sideways through the tank's barrel. I have to assume depleted uranium is pretty tough stuff.

216 Billy Bob criticized ace's twitter obsession. Did not go over well. I think ace is really stressed out now. *** I contribute three or four posts a month, always on the weekends and usually just throwaway stuff. I don't put forth near the effort on my posts as Ace does his and yet it is still stressful because whatever I post needs to draw in the crowd and start a discussion. If what I post turns away the visitors, I am cutting into Ace's livelihood. Then, the moment a post goes up, there's the inevitable ass who will take what I say, twist it around, and try to tie me up in knots. Ace goes through this cycle DOZENS of times per week. He must have the thickest skin of any blogger on the net because he allows a helluva lot to take place around here with relatively little censoring. Typically, a commenter must really challenge him before he drops the hammer. I can only imagine how stressful it must be to produce at the rates he does, make it as entertaining as possible, and then sit back and give free reign to the horde of us to either support or pick apart his efforts. I admire him tremendously for what he has accomplished here.

When all the enviro-Libtards were having orgasims over the movie Avatar, still haven't seen it, I really pissed off one my Libtard friends when, after explaining the flick to me with all the political nuances as well, I told him that the whole storyline was totally bogus and illogical. Sensing a fight he started screaming the usually conservatives are closed-minded, ignorant cavemen crap when I calmly mentioned that the bad guys could simply have nuked the planet from orbit then gone down and mined/whatever. No need wasting perfectly good infantry. He shut up really fast.

My mom died of lung cancer. The doc in the hospital said there isn't as much money put to research because it was considered self inflicted, probably meaning because of smoking.

Sooo, over my moms dying body I went nuke on the doc. I said "well then explain AIDS, isn't that self inflicted, or does a dude just trip and fall and his dick falls into another dudes ass by accident? You had every god damn idiot that calls himself a musician and every hollywood retard doing massive concerts, making commercials, and busting people's balls for years to cure aids because waaaaa it was a crisis , and I never heard a doctor say well you know its self inflicted so tough fucking tittie."

My wife sells insurance and had to go to an 8 hr class today to be able to sell ACA health care plans ( which she doesn't want to anyway )

The guy giving the class said don't even try to use the websites, " they don't work" He told them to use paper applications. She was also blown away that the commision you get for signing up someone is like $ 18.00. She figured out she would make like $6.00 an hour helping people with this.

404 More good news on the SMOD front: 2013 TV135 - the asteroid I described here a few days ago has been observed for 2 more days (9 in all). The odds of impact on August 26, 2032 have increased from one in 63,000 to one in 14,000. The Asteroid is about 1/4 mile across and the potential impact energy is about equal to 2400 one megaton H-bombs (2.4 Gigatons) - which would result in a devastation to a continent were it to strike land. In some ways a sea strike is worse due to the mega Tsunamis that would result. The object continues as a Torino one event although it is close to crossing the border and becoming a Torino 2. Another two days of observation will help clarify the impact risk.

Dallas Abbot's undersea impact research has established that the last large impact on the earth occurred around 535 AD in the Gulf of Carpenteria in Australia and likely resulted in the collapse of the Roman Empire and the start of the Dark Ages. That was a double impact of two smaller objects who's total energy release was less than the potential impact of 2013 TV135.

If my calculations are correct, the Earth is struck by a rock the size of 2013 TV135 about every 50,000 years.

460 327 They do play hard, and I think like soccer, one day the US will be pretty competitive worldwide. Have you watched any of the "Sevens" competitions? That is pretty much like an Oregon-Baylor game. Posted by: Ashley Judd's Puffy Scamper, aka MrCaniac at October 19, 2013 11:35 PM Dunno about the US in soccer. Don't watch it. Pretty much only watch, in order... 1) rugby league 13 a side. 2) Gridiron (NFL and some College). 3) rugby union 15 a side. "Sevens" is the 7 a side rugby union? Haven't caught any of that. Mostly the regular rugbyU internationals when not rugbyL club matches. Posted by: otho at October 19, 2013 11:54 PM (9gNQd) The soccer reference is that the US was pretty pathetic internationally in soccer for years, but now we can compete with the world powers and beat them from time to time. Sevens is the 7 a side game, and it is almost like rugby league games except for really open. The US has a sprinter named Kirwin Ilses(?) playing for them because he wants to be in the Olympics, and Sevens will be in the 16 games. When he gets the ball, he about scores every time because he is just so much faster than any one else on the field, but his conditioning means he can only play about 1/2 the game. Plus, he is awful in the defensive side of the game which you have to play pretty solid in Sevens. NBC and Universal Sports Network will show the Rugby Sevens Series from time to time. The only thing I miss about DirectTv is losing Fox Soccer Plus that had the UK and European rugby unions on, and DirectTv's own channels that had the Super14 in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand plus those countries domestic leagues.

461 All that pink stuff for breast cancer awareness just annoys me. My mom had had breast cancer at the age of 83 and they did a great job of treating her. She died 10 years later of pneumonia. The thing is, other cancers are just as tragic for the families of people who have them. Also, the pink stuff is overdone and saccharine. Whenever I see the pink ribbons I think, "Okay, that's nice. Now what color ribbons are we all going to wear for testicular cancer?" I knew 2 guys who'd had it, and I'm pretty sure guys get emotional over having their balls operated on.

463 Oldsailors: I agree TMZ was hard on Rush... but they're hard on a lot of celebrities, including completely non-political ones. It's their schtick: find a celeb on the street, ask an asinine question in the hope of a funny/asinine answer, then let the staff make jokes.

IMHO it didn't help that Rush acted as if he didn't see them and basically stuck his nose up. If he had "played along" about the question re his dustup with Howard Stern et al., my hunch is that they would have just shown his responses and let it go.

Also, I happen to know that Harvey Levin, while definitely a Democrat, isn't a nutcake relfex-lefty like so many others in Hollywood. For instance, he and TMZ did a good job going after Alec Baldwin after his latest anti-gay meltdown, for instance, and even the comments there agreed.

494 Oh, and re the "bag of piss" comment about Rush on TMZ: I don't know her name, but the blonde woman who made the comment has the role of the "feminist bitch queen" of the room.

If you've noticed, they all play a certain "role" on the show. In an earlier episode, after they had done an adorable piece about a dog that was found with only three legs... she said, out loud and on camera, "makes you want to just take your dog and chop its leg off." Of course everyone was (I think truly) shocked, they booed her, and she got this "oh shit" look on her face.

So none of them, I think, are meant to be taken very seriously about their views on anything, celebrity, political or otherwise.

I have been in the top drawer in her room hundreds of times. 553 My schizophrenic grandmother used to tuck $20 bills in books.  When she moved out of her apt into assisted living, the criminal side of the family trashed every book she had looking for those $20 bills.

They couldn't have gotten more than a couple hundred bucks total, but they destroyed hundreds of rare old books from the 1800's worth 10's of thousands of dollars in the process that she'd scored out of the old Troy library for nickels and dimes a pop over the years.

At Comdex, a big computer industry trade show of yore, it was very important for a small exhibitor to bring big table cloths, even if their display didn't need them. This was so you could hide under them while dealing with the highly technical task of plugging in power cords. This was supposed to wait for a union guy to come around to do, which could mean hours.

So, just in case you were wondering, doing conventions in San Francisco is totally union this, union that, and union every-which-way.....and I have a story.

It seems that a certain competitor of ours was doing a show and needed to get product literature to their booth, so they asked for a handtruck. "No handtrucks without union guys runnin' 'em" was the reply. So they went down to skid row, picked up about a dozen junkies and drunks, and had 'em ferry individual boxes of literature across the show floor in return for little bottles of liquor.

We were trying 24/7 to run 'em out of business, but had to sit down and tip a glass in their honor when we heard about that play.

590 The European site NeoDys has additional observations of 2013 TV135, and they calculate the impact risk as about one in 3800. NeoDys is ahead of JPL because of the time of day issues in Europe as compared to California. The asteroid is still rated as a Torino 1. The NeoDys Palermo scale is -.67 as compared to the JPL reading of -1.19. A Palermo scale reading of 0 means that the risk from this asteroid alone equals all of the risk expected from all asteroids that size over the same time period (in this case just under 19 years.)

The JPL and NeoDys use different mathematical calculation techniques - but their calculations usually are in substantial agreement.

592 I went to an OcktoberFest beer/ale tasting exhibition today. There were about 12 producers, each showing an average of 5 products each. Even taking one ounce samples, I left there with a buzz. If they had, they could have easily blended in with the other dozen folks who smelled like urine. Additional bonus detail -- some of their squad got several bottles because it only took about 15 minutes to walk from the dock to the booth and back....while others only got one bottle because it somehow took 'em an hour to make the same trip. All the literature eventually made it to the booth, but word was that some of the "staff" took the scenic route, staggering through other booths, wandering off into restricted areas, and/or generally freaking out.

Oddly enough, none of the union guys offered a single one of 'em a job, despite their obvious competence.

596 The soccer reference is that the US was pretty pathetic internationally in soccer for years, but now we can compete with the world powers and beat them from time to time.

Posted by: Ashley Judd's Puffy Scamper, aka MrCaniac at October 20, 2013 12:21 AM

Oh, ok. I'll have to catch the sevens if it I can find it on fox cable. I think I've seen that sprinter in a clip here a while back. Dude will have to learn to tackle... he's a winger isn't he? If the US has a finisher like him, they could go deep. Though I should imagine the US would be stronger at 15 a side than 7. Sevens would be more passing heavy.

Look at it this way there is one chance in 3800 it will hit us and 3799 chances in 3800 that it will miss us. Does that help?

Don't start to worry until it reaches Torino 4 - it becomes a "threatening object" at that point.

Most likely future observations will cause the threat to vanish.

The JPL site http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/risk/ is the much more user friendly site. NeoDys is more of a nerd site.

The asteroid I have been talking about is the one in Green at the top of the risk list on the JPL site.

The impact probability number - if you click on it - will show you the probability I quoted earlier. Clicking on the Asteroid number will give you more details on it and some explanations of what the various columns mean.

The f'in' pussy RINO establishment wouldn't run it, but there should be an anti-Hillary ad that shows her fawning over Ambassador Stevens and fades to white text on a black background: "This is how she sends Americans to die...."

Then fades to her prancing around the flag-draped coffins coming off the plane and fades to: "....and this is how she mourns them." with a hard cut to her exasperated "What difference at this point does it make?". Fade to obligatory election crap.

It won't convert the other side, but it might throw her off her stride.

621 How did Ace miss this ...

We calculated the answer, following a simple methodology that made the most of the 906,539 ratings on foodnetwork.com. First, we searched out all the recipes that fit a certain description-—sandwiches, for example. Then, we calculated the average rating for those foods if they did not include the word “bacon.” We ran the numbers again using only recipes that did include bacon. The results were pretty great. Of all the foods we analyzed, bacon lends the most improvement to sandwiches. Many other foods also benefitted. In fact, we found that when you crunch the data for all recipes, those with bacon do in fact rate higher.

Among those arrested on corruption charges are a senior agent for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and a Navy commander who escaped Cambodia’s “killing fields” as a child only to make a triumphant return to the country decades later as the skipper of a U.S. destroyer. I plunge to the bottom of the sage  comments,

heart pounding,

so as not to be the last of

those lamenting.

.....

Huh? ...

Nuke it! Burn the f*'er down.      Sorry for all of the optimism. Will there be cheerleaders later? ... Indecisive and irresolute, someone said, as he took another deep pull on the Makers Mark  that had been suffering under his serpents gaze. .. Your 20 and 20 more! Call! (3 kings should be good at this point! ... and if not,  I can blame it on the Ace and his minions)

647 Wrap your head around that -- a fucking LIBRARY putting original 1830's Faraday volumes in perfect condition out at a freaking book sale for a nickle or dime...and that was probably 30-40 years ago. Today the dumbasses would just chuck it into the incinerator.

This is very likely the most horrifying thing I have read all evening.

of Hollywood propaganda, during the mid-2000s peak of Bush Derangement Syndrome, we were treated to such dismal and didactic Iraq War dramas as “Lions for Lambs” (final gross: $15 million), “In the Valley of Elah” ($6.8 million) and “Grace Is Gone” ($51,000 — that’s right, thousand, as in “less than the cost of the Evian they drank on the set”).

Never heard of any of that trash. Guess that shows how far I have removed myself from popular "culture."

It's GIGO at best....

I am a lot more entertained per hour of consumption.  Being frugal with my viewership has led to Justified and other shows being available I suspect.

654 628 I don't remember any of those either but I do remember the flop Green Zone that starred America hater Matt Daemon a few years ago. I remember it existed anyway, I've never paid money to watch that asshole and don't intent to.

655 "So, just in case you were wondering, doing conventions in San Francisco is totally union this, union that, and union every-which-way.....and I have a story." When Buckminster Fuller was told that he had to hire two union thugs ("stagehands") even though he was just giving a lecture, he called up a rental place and had them bring over two pianos. Then, throughout his talk, he'd stop every few minutes and have the thug boys shift the pianos around the stage for a while. Yep, he had to pay, but he made them earn it. "Just because you're going to lose doesn't mean they have to win."
