How Long Does It Take To Get a Building Permit?
One of Adam Carolla's constant complaints is how regulated everything in society is in general and in particular how long and complex the city of Los Angeles has made doing the simplest of (legal) construction projects. Depending on where you live adding a pool to an existing house on flat stable land can take up to a year and cost $100K+ just for the permits and studies. If it's on a sloped lot... well you better be rich and have plenty of free time - although according to Adam even Jimmy Kimmel Joel McHale balked when he found what a new pool would cost him.
Well it turns out that lots of cities have decided to effectively stamp out any new (legal) building.
Here's a heat map created by Prof. Stephen Oliner of UCLA/AEI showing the average time to complete the planning process for new construction projects. As you can see depending on which county you happen to be in it can take up to 10x times longer. Basically any county in dark red doesn't truly want people to build anything new and will grind them down with process until they give up - all the while demanding federal and state help in bringing new jobs to the area.

...In recent tests at a gun range near Austin, Texas, Defense Distributed fired a total of 342 rounds using the magazine with no issues, according to the group's founder, Cody Wilson. Mickelson was telling the truth. If there's anything that should upset or insult Americans, it's just how much of their money the government takes. Mickelson estimates that more than 60% of his earnings are snatched in federal and state taxes (he lives in California). Should a private citizen, no matter how successful, really owe the government more than half of what he or she makes? Intuitively, this cannot make sense to anyone who believes in the principles of hard work and personal responsibility.

I'm fascinated by what Glenn Beck is doing with The Blaze as an internet TV network and it's incomprehensible why media reporters (and business reporters) aren't all over this story. Beck took a cable TV following, ported it out of an established network, and ushered into his own new network, which is not just an internet TV channel, but a pay internet TV channel. How is this not the most interesting, and potentially disruptive, media experiment since the advent of Fox News Channel? And yet when you look around the mainstream press . . . crickets.
...I went on The Blaze's Real News last night and came away even more impressed with the operation. What they're doing isn't an alt-version of Fox. It's actually more like what PBS might be in an alt-universe where it had created a hit newscast for younger, conservative viewers. It's long-form broadcast. It's high-energy, but not shout-y. And it's really, really smart.
Well Last isn't normally one to gush like a fanboy so I'm officially intrigued.

Why she didn't think I would like it is beyond me. For all the singing talent (Latifa, Keys, Hudson) there, I was seriously disappointed that it was not a musical. And btw, there actually is stuff about bees.

That's common in show dogs, from what I've heard. I had a couple of litters of Daschunds and had to watch for that. Had one who broke his back jumping off the back porch one day. Is that the SOFREP info that came out the other day about Brennan using JSOC to hit AQ targets in Lybia? That info is VERY interesting, and the SOFREP guys seem to have their shit together.
The conversion claim doesn't do us any good if the left can simply roll their eyes and marginalize it like the Birth Certificate claims (with a willing propaganda machine to do the heavy lifting).

I am the Radiation Safety Officer where I work. A customs point caught a casting that was low level radioactive at some port in Asia. The casting was less than 2 mrem/h at 6 inches and got caught. It forced us to put the detectors I linked on all our docks. So if we have them just for shits and giggles I'm guessing ports have better ones and hiding radioactivity is heavy.

I don't see much confusion in his writings at all. Economics, and the workings of the stock market are part mathematics, which is clear enough to anyone willing to seriously look at them, at partly psychology, which is anyone's guess when enough people will call bullshit on all the lies keeping the two appear elevated. But it will eventually happen, because the mathematics require it. He's not a nihilist at all, he's specifically trying to avoid the outcome of the current course (or anything as inadequate as 'the Ryan plan'), which is the inevitable collapse of our currency, making all other concerns moot.
As for the tea party, that's more ego than anything else. He tried to start something by mailing tea bags to DC around the time of TARP passage, and saw the tea party rallies (more properly flowing from the famous Santelli rant) as a continuation of that. And then was disappointed when they were pretty much the same people that traditionally side with the GOP (if neber really represented by them).

Water is a great shield for radiation. 40 feet of water stops almost all the radiation from glowing spent nuke spent fuel (that will kill you dead if you were to see it hanging in the air). Four or five layers of containers full of sand or concrete would be very effective too.

To correct, currency destruction is what the goldbugs over at zerohedge are worried most about. KD's thesis is that the Fed will run out of places to stuff dollars before we get to that point which leads immediately to massive deflation (see Japan's stock market over the last 20 years) and/or the inflation on business inputs crushes profit margins which, once sanity returns to the market, will crush their stock values as well, which is effectively deflationary (people who falsely think themselves wealthy today will find those paper assets vaporized one morning).

I have personally witnessed gov't dipshits deciding that rotting trailer courts that were pieces of shit for their entire existence (and effectively beyond livability now) are "historical." I'm talking those 8 foot wide rounded top 1950's vintage shit -- not even a single 14x in the mix anywhere, and none of them in anything resembling good repair. Some dipshit fits the bill exactly.
