Heh, the squealing begins. FAA furlough reprieve: 'No fair!'.
Disability Scammer

Oh, I think this is just the tip of the iceberg. The alleged disability insurance scammers whose frauds got caught on camera.
Disability fraud is not a terribly hard crime to get away with. You claim you’ve been injured, get a shady doctor to sign off, and then you stick to the fakery. If you say you’ve hurt your back, remain recumbent! Don’t go climbing trees or fixing your roof in public. And certainly do not upload to YouTube a video that shows you half-naked and covered in tinfoil, doing “the robot” to the tune of Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride.”
Boston PD K-9 Use
Bob Owens wonders did Boston PD fail to use K-9 units correctly in terrorist hunt? I'm also curious as to how the bombers were able to stroll around for hours with their bombs and not have a bomb sniffin' dog pick up on it at the marathon. I assume they never got close enough to a K-9.
Public Education Decline
This is stupid. Texas follows California in dropping algebra requirement. I guess they expect kids to just rely on apps for figuring out everyday problems that require this type of thinking. Or they just want kids to pay extra for the remedial math courses they'll have to take in college.
Oh, and if you thought the story of the NY middle school forcing students to ask for a gay kiss was bad, Germany would like you to know they can top that. Berlin first graders get explicit sex eduction book. NSFW if you click on the images included in the article (which are sketches instead of photos).
The book, "Where Do You Come From?" ("Wo kommst du her?"), which is recommended for ages 5 and up, shows a couple, Lisa and Lars, in various stages of arousal. In one illustration, Lisa puts a condom on Lars' erect penis. Another shows them having intercourse. The text also veers toward the explicit.
Footee
I'm down with giving this "sport" a try. I'll bring the first keg.
All Plastic Gun

The first all-plastic 3D-printed gun will be available to download in 2 weeks. Really hard to get too excited over this since the plastic gun hasn't been shown to last very long.
If all goes to plan, Wilson says the 3D-printed gun — which will be a custom design, rather than a reproduction of an existing pistol — will be able to fire a “few shots” before melting or breaking. After testing, the design will be uploaded to the web, so that anyone with a 3D printer can print out the handgun. You’ll still need to source your own ammunition and firing pin, though.
Dog Tattoo
I'm gonna have to say that tattooing your dog is wrong.

it just places more burden on colleges to teach more and more highschool-level math.
and because students are still taking highschool-level math in college, they aren't ready to start the introductory college-level science classes.
hence they don't graduate for 5,6,7 years.

re: Bob Owens and K9s
Best NCIS episode this year, directed by the guy who plays DiNozzo, celebrated the role of dogs in the military. Person of Interest also added a military veteran to the cast (a Dutch-trained K9 that served in Iraq).
Boston PD, and all cops (I'm sure NYPD is good on this), need to use the K9s properly

In NYS, we were given the option of taking HS math, specifically algebra, in 8th grade.
Turns out that scientific studies have shown that 7th and 8th graders taking algebra end up being worse at math throughout their entire academic careers than those who were allowed to wait before taking algebra, if they had to at all.
My scientific evidence: I took algebra in 8th grade, and I suck at math

A whole bunch of us were up at the (late, lamented) BFF's and the one tv channel played actual hard core porn after midnight. We had it on in the background and suddenly everyone went dead quiet and then you heard a chorus of what the fuck! The clip that was playing had not been color corrected properly and let's just say that I did not expect to see a day-glo pink schlong. It was completely hilarious.

I'd like to see something like...if you can pass the GRE and LSAT with some decently high score, or maybe sit only for the final exam on a course (and pass it with a B+), then they waive all that shit.
People could save a shitload of money that way.
Of course if you're majoring in basket weaving, then you'd have to actually take the whole course.

No, Canada. When the bad overdubbing started up, there was much Serious You Guys drunken discussion about whether it was an artifact of Canadian language requirements since, from what we could make out, the underlying video was in French. Then the closed caption discussions started and I nearly fell down the stairs laughing.

well FWIW, from someone who is nowhere near Massachusetts: I got a fundraising email from Sullivan (I think) accusing Gomez of being some sort of Obama-loving RINO. (I have no idea if that is true or not.) The only way I can figure that I got this email is because I donated to Scott Brown's campaign in January 2011. So I suppose that means Sullivan has some connection to Scott Brown.

A brutal multi-phase interview process like Microsoft does.
At Microsoft, the HR people only talk to you for a few minutes, then you're handed off to a series of actual programmers who will spend a lot of time with you finding out if you're full of shit and spinning yarns.
When MS was trying to hire me, I related to one of the guys some performance mod I'd made to some video driver while at IBM and how well it turned out. As it turned out, HE was the guy who wrote the original video driver and asked me to identify exactly where the mod was. We pulled the source up from MS's servers and looked at it.
If I'd been lying I'd have been busted on the spot.

Why are.lefties so obsessed with sexualizing children?
/raises hook
I know, ma'am.
I'll assume you're a Christian and you're familiar with what's worldly.
They expose children to a) take away their innocence, b) and fill their minds and hearts with worldly ideas. This serves to separate YOUR children away from you and your beliefs and bring them closer to the world; closer to the state; and closer to the school.
Children are not mentally equipped to process adult matters. It opens them up to ideas that they simply cannot comprehend. It doesn't just confuse them, it shorts out their brains and forever distorts the matter well into adulthood.

In other countries, you may have been to airports where EVERY officer has a dog.. its to scare potential drug smugglers. Most of those dogs couldn't tell a bomb from heroin to shit.
Most people in our culture think these dogs have super powers..they don't.. Hell, some people even think dogs can detect seizures or 'smell' cancer (they cannot)

District investigation finds DISD principal misused federal funds
DALLAS –– An internal investigation accuses a Dallas Independent School District principal of putting relatives and friends on the payroll and misspending federal funds on items including a cash grab machine for a student award ceremony.
The comprehensive investigation completed by the Dallas ISDÂ’s Office of Professional Responsibility and obtained exclusively by News 8 alleges Roosevelt High School Principal Dr. Leicha Shaver engaged in nepotism and mismanaged thousands of dollars in Texas Title 1 Priority Schools grant funds. That money is awarded to schools that show the greatest need to improve academic performance.
The 44-page report concludes, among other things, that Shaver spent $200,000 of grant funds on a student award ceremony in which children received gift cards, electronics and even got the chance to pocket as much money as they could in a ‘cash grab’ machine.

So decades ago when I was still in high school I'm at the gym one day standing at the counter with another guy. John, the other guy, ordered a protein shake.
The kid behind the counter, a college student, poured the foamy protein drink in the cup right to the very tippy top and then laughed and said, "Heh, meniscus!"
John, who happened to be of Greek descent raised his eyebrows at him and said, "What did you call me?"
And that's how John and I learned about meniscus.
True story.

I was practically living on it for a couple of years and then, on behalf of my poor overworked liver, checked with the doc. Whoa, celebrex, awesome shit right there, although I only take it "as needed," and due to the fact the $667/mo insurance doesn't cover it, I rarely take it. Another great, great thing is Voltaren gel. Wonderful stuff. Not as wonderful as an unfucked knee, but pretty darn good. Not many people know about it. Also, I take wads of the chondroitin/glucosamine/msm. Notice a real difference if I run out. Another thing for the Costco list.

67 is 29 percent of ?
29 = 0.32x
x = 29/0.32
67 = 0.29x

Okay, think of this.
Gather around you 5 identical objects. It can be whatever you wish. 5 beer cans, 5 batteries, 5 pennies, whatever. It doesn't matter.
Then, remove one of the objects.
You now have 4/5ths of the remaining objects left. 4/5 is 0.80 or 80%.
That is all that a percentage represents. Some fraction of the original amount that remains.

Plastic Gun - As Purp noted, it would be a great way to acquire a better gun courtesy of an oppressive government. (Supposedly getting a second gun is why those chechen assholes assassinated the MIT Cop.) A printed gun is sort of like what the WWII Liberator pistol was supposed to be. I hope we never need them.
For a "gone to hell" plan pistol like that, it could be helpful if they designed a suppressed version of the pistol with the baffles printed as part of the barrel. But that would require a lot of additional work and ATF licenses to design and test the pistol in the US. I do not know how legal possession of the design would be either?

Maybe this will help. 100% of something is ALL of it. 100%. Anything less that ALL of it, as you say, is less than 1.
1 equals 100%
90% equals .9, or 9/10ths, or 90/100ths

As bad as IE3/4 were, they were a godsend over Netscape 3/4 which I could never keep up for more than 15 minutes.

OK, then upgrade to IE 10. IE is the least-compliant, most manipulative browser out there, and as a web developer I'm sorry that you don't want to look at the alternatives, which generally work better, download and install more easily, are less of a security risk to you in terms of identity theft, and are all free, to boot, but best of luck to you.

quick and dirty math:
if I want to figure out what 20% of $19.00 is, I just multiply 2 x 19 = 38.
Now, using your common sense, "38" must be $3.80, right?
So if a $19 item is 20% off, you pay $15.20.

Okay, now take 1 of those objects and hide it.
You now have only 4 objects in front of you.
The fraction of *remaining* objects is 4/5, or 80%. That is what the percentage represents. A fraction corresponding to the number of currently present objects vs. the total number of objects.
So if I said "there are 4 objects present, but that corresponds to only 80% of the total number of objects", then you'd know that there must be 5 objects total, because 80% of 5 equals 4.
That's what a percentage represents.

Yeah, it's funny that WCW under Turner got hot by buying WWF guys, like Hulk Hogan, the Macho Man, Diesel, and Razor Ramon, but their best business was done with Sting.
When Sting was boozing and taking pills, the company was heading towards rock bottom but feeling good, but when Sting sobered up, the company sucked.
Ironically, if Sting had joined the WWF after WCW folded, he would've been one of the 5 most famous wrestlers of all time (Rock, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Macho Man), but he didn't like how "immoral" the WWF was and stayed in the relative shadows.
Shawn, OTOH, decided that he wouldn't work Tuesdays (Bible reflection day in the San Antonio version of a parish [I'm Irish-Catholic, forgive me] and instead decided to work as limited schedule as possible and put the most worthy people over not through reputation but through ring work.
Since he came back, the best matches at the Super Bowl of wrestling:
2003: HBK vs. Chris Jericho
2004: HBK vs. HHH vs. (a child-murderer)
2005: HBK vs. Kurt Angle
2006: HBK vs. Vince McMahon
2007: HBK vs. John Cena
2008: HBK vs. Ric Flair

Make it a habit of leaving and entering your house with one of your guitars.. At first they will always have to ask what guitar that is, and in a short while will just get tired of asking and just give up trying to keep up with what you are doing.
Thats when you start moving in the new ones.

Yes, if you use IE and you're on Windows 7 (anything earlier doesn't have the option and Windows 8 has it as standard) you should go to IE 10.
It enable more of the HTML 5 goodies and has some nifty new features like being able to show two tabs next to each other to take advantage of the shift to wide screen monitors.
Whether anything will run better depends on some variables. The JavaScript engine is a bit faster than IE9's. Sites that make heavy use of the latest HTML 5 tech will have more features supported. AoSHQ isn't going to run any better because it is a friggin' antique.
IE will always trail the others on features and the latest HTML whizbangs because smart enterprise developers have learned to avoid anything that isn't utterly completely final in the official spec. They'll do work with an eye to the future and test it under FF or Chrome but it won't go into the production site until it is safe and has IE support. There are plenty of places outside enterprise apps to play with new toys.

We need to make this the motto of California.
There are only acceptable reasons to kill another being, human or not:
1) You need it to survive (food generally, Luke Skywalker on Hoth)
2) It has the capacity to kill you (from the bear or alligator on the furter part of your property to the spider or fruit fly in your bedroom - if it can kill you, and it's in your house, it dies)

"dropping algebra requirement" That makes me sick to my f%cking stomach. Without algebra, the only kind of "math" a person can do is arithmetic. In my pathetic school district, geometry is taught without proofs! WTF is geometry without proofs?!? It's art class, I guess.

Sorry, but the average education major cannot figure it out, so there is no way they can teach it successfully. Too damn many of them are too stupid to do basic math, much less calculus. And the ones with Masters and PhDs degrees are the worst.
But they can make a bitching diorama!!!

I only got slightly busted during Irene. I had to move all the shit out of the basement and bring it upstairs because of the flooding I knew was going to happen. It was the first time the entire stash was ever moved from its womb to somewhere else. The amps took out the entire dining room and some of the living room.. The guitars took out the rest of the living room, 1 bedroom, and some of the family room.
There was no fucking way to explain it away. There it was in all its glory making it impossible to walk through most of the house.

I have a Fender Jazz Plus V 5-string. She's been my baby for about 15 years now. Just took her to the Guitar Factory (a local shop featured on the Yes album The Ladder some years back (a couple of the Yes guys have houses down here) and had a new set of light gauge strings put on her.

And I am giggling about "you guys" hiding the guitars.
I bought hubby a nice guitar - we don't spend the kind of money people in the business spend, but he found a nice Epiphone E-5or 6 I think it was, on Holloman Yard Sales - basically an internet yard sale for the Holloman Air Force Base here that civilians can use too, and he was SO excited about it.
I called the guy selling it, and while I was there, hubby called to try to buy it, and the guy covered for me and told him it was sold.
It was hard to hide until Christmas Eve, when we open presents at Dad's house, but I loved the look on his face when he unwrapped the trash bag and saw the guitar case.

I appreciate hubby's music - he just hasn't been in a band for a long time, but it made me happy to see the look on his face! He has practiced with it a bit, but with no gigs in the future, I have to do the "request" thing once and again.
Before we were even married, I bought him a lovely Everly Brothers acoustic, but his fingers didn't fit the frets (they were very skinny frets), and we ended up trading that for an Ovation, that he prettied up and plays very nicely.

And oh, look, the usual lurker even has a wresting story to tell.
My great-grandpa was a huge wresting fan, way back in the sixties. We used to go down to the farm for last harvest, which was picking the "new potatoes" and the last apples, and like that, and we all complained that we couldn't watch cartoons while the ladies were making breakfast, we had to watch wresting with great-grandpa.
When he went in the nursing home, Verne Gagne used to bring a bunch of his compadres with him to visit for greatgrandpas birthday every year, for about 10 years until ggpa passed away at 95.
It broke my heart to see that Verne had lost his way when I read that story about him killing someone, because he really did have a big heart when it came to his fans.

Oh and I am a good German girl, even tho I married a man named Jesse James (not his last name). But my last name is Braun, and his is Wagner, so that is how sometimes it works out.
We had a good time at my class reunion one time. They had rented an old train engine and were giving rides up to the open pit mine in Hibbing, MN (home town), and some guy was giving us a hard time, so I told Jesse James that I had the pistol to rob the train in my purse, and the horses were waiting at the turn around point, and we acted all serious in our "western" garb, and he went and sat somewhere else then.

I'm waiting to see what will be available in that motherboard size for Haswell in June. Since it'll use a BGA chip factory installed on the board, I should be able to get it with the GT3e video, to get a pretty good balance between low power and high performance. I may just go with the SSD alone to keep heat down and add a platter drive later if if I feel the need but I plan to use the network storage for big video file and just have the OS and apps on the SSD. The optical will be a Blu-ray reader, although I have an external USB 3.0 Blu-ray burner I'll use until a good deal comes along. (The motherboard/CPU will likely be much costlier than I usually go for and require some recovery time.)
Then I'll finally have a box for the entertainment center that simply plays EVERYTHING.
I do have another project I'm doing on the cheap. Newegg had a bunch of Free After Rebate deals the other day, including a case, H61 LGA1155 motherboard, and 480W PSU. Add a low end Ivy Bridge CPU without video, use the Nvidia 210 board I got for like $2 a while back, add some RAM and a cheap hard drive and DVD burner, and that should make a decent little machine for well under $200. Something to have for experiments with weird distros or as a loaner.

Technically, I have a TiVo with cable card. But these days it's used solely by my mother and sister. My mother has difficulty staying awake through an entire hour long TV show, so she records EVERYTHING. The TiVo is constantly erasing old stuff she hasn't watched yet to make room for new stuff. So I just leave it to her. If I ever find a good deal on the WD external drive for the TiVo I'll add that but I have no doubt Mom will soon use all of that capacity as well.
I've given up on downloading stuff for her because she just can't wrap her head around the idea of having it any time she likes. She understands intellectually but her mind set always reverts to the bulk of her life when you adhered to the broadcasters' schedule. So the mound of DVDs I've made for her gather dust while she watches the same show in syndication, commercials and all.
Fortunately, there isn't that much on these days I feel any compulsion to keep up with. I'd rather wait for the season to conclude and torrent the whole lot. I've got a few thousand hours of material saved up. If the cable died and I still had electricity in the house, I'd be set for a good long time.
Perhaps it would be different if I was working in an office every day and needed to make conversation but I'm not and I don't.

Could be some wanker trying to knock the HQ offline by posting a bunch of useless crap in order to make the HQ exceed its disk quota.
Or it could be just another attention starved idiot who sees even being talked about at all as encouragement.

The more I think about this, the funnier it is.
Maybe I just need sleep.

Not that anybody cares, but I went to physical therapy today. Got my arm curls up to three reps of 20 at 8 pounds. Straight arm up to five pounds for 20 seconds x three reps. Next week weights go up to ten and eight pounds, respectively. Fifteen minutes on the eliptical. Ten minutes of leg lifts and ankle lifts. Only had to rest twice for albuteral puffs to counter COPD reactions.
Overall, I am making good progress from nearly dead to almost undead. I am grateful for whatever extra time these exertions add to my time on the right side of the grass.
In the spirit of the joyous company here at the HQ, I am celebrating with four fingers of cheap Canadian stilled swill. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Damn. I keep this program going, I'll last another seventy-five years. Oh, did I mention that the physical therapist is a fine looking, rootin-tootin young lady?
Good night all. You are a lovely bunch of coconuts.

As many as he feels like. When the 500 gallon tank runs dry, he'll whip out the war cock and piss napalm.

The truth is I'm not the Gary Oldman character from The Professional.
I'm more like the Jean Reno character.
Oh shit! what did I just say?
Please come save me, Natalie Portman character!

Remind me why I thought you were sexy, but only if you're not a stupid cunt.
I like to see nipples in reminder pictures. BTW.

I don't shoot 5.56 much anymore. Mostly hand cannons, now. Yikes. The price on that gold.

RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) is the only way to go with a hand-held calculator. I'm so grateful that my Physics I prof introduced me to RPN when I decided to go back to school to get my BSME. That technique makes is so much easier to solve equations with multiple operations.
When I tutored physics, most of the students would try to blast through an equation as one algebraic string with nested parenthesis -- which resulted in errors most of the time. Whenever I saw the rare student whip out their Hewlett Packard calculator (those are the only one's made expressly for RPN), it was like a secret handshake!

Oops, sorry for the "all-bold," I forgot to close with the and .
It's been a long time since I posted at the HQ although I still lurk a bit. Finally getting a job certainly cuts into the approved Moron lifestyle.
