This is a good question. When will insurers ever say enough's enough? As it stands, I have little sympathy towards insurers. They willingly got in bed with this administration on this.
How can anyone run a business this way? This is worse than being a federal agency. No federal agency would be expected to stop and start on a personal whim like this. These aren’t rules, they aren’t regulations, they are dictates based on nothing more than Kathleen Sebelius’ momentary feelings.ShoesThese are only the “glitches” that have been made public. God knows what orders and threats are being issued in closed-door meetings.
How long will the insurance industry abide being treated like shoe shine boys?

Alright 'ettes, here's my penance for the spider video last night. Crazy high heel designs.

Flower Ammo

A 12 gauge shotgun shell that lets you fire flower seeds with a shotgun. Um, yeah, OK. 4 shells for $50??? Must have marijuana seed in it. Jeez.
Naval Aviation
Marine Corps Standards
Suhprise, suhprise. OK not really. US Marine Corps has quietly pushed back a deadline that requires all female Marines to do three (yes three!) pullups. I'm sorry, but if one cannot do three pullups, then perhaps seeking employment in something combat related should not be considered.
Famous Movie Scenes...

Obama vs Israel
Jeez. Now the administration is telling Israeli generals to stop being so concerned about Israeli security concerns. Umm, that's their job and is essential to their survival and existence.
Global Warmists Trapped
Australian ice-breaker closes in on trapped global warmist ship as Chinese ice-breaker retreats to open ocean. Guess they should've consulted actual weather reports and not AGW models to plan their route.
Aurora captain Murray Doyle said it was always possible the ice would be too thick for the Xue Long.''We were always option B,'' he said. ''We were always going to be sent on until the end.''
Reports from the Chinese ice-breaker and the Akademik Shokalskiy say pack ice in the area is 10/10ths, which means the vessel is surrounded, and some ice floes are between three and four metres thick.
The Aurora could comfortably slice through ice up to 1.35 metres thick, and crash through thicker slabs by reversing and ramming.
But Mr Doyle was unsure how the ice-breaker would handle ice thicker than three metres. ''It's not what we're built for,'' he said.
Did You Know....
....that this administration believes it has cut the deficit in half since 2009? Just wow.

It's why they tried to make the law unrepealable because it would ruin so many insurers if it was.
This is nothing more than the largest transfer of wealth from the citizens to a few companies and their controllers.
That's the way Hillarycare was written and that's what happened here.

Seems to me it is way beyond just companies that have to go along to survive, the individual (now conveniently redefined as a member of the masses/workers) has little choice but to go along to survive when a massive, intrusive, lawless, unchecked government capable of using the over-whelming force of both a statist police power and a subverted set of pseudo-jurists overruling ethical concepts of "law" is running th empire.

And, Yeah, the canoe stories are cute and all but for real, you'll have to provide some sort of evidence and in some places if you didn't file a report at the time of loss, they can stick you for that.
They ain't gonna buy the lost overboard stories.
If you claim you sold them all, you're required, required mind you to tell them who what when where you sold them. ON PENALTY OF LAW.
Meanwhile you're house and environs will be subject to search warrant and seizure of any "contraband" with arrest likely.
So good luck with having acted as a good citizen all these years.
Just hang a sign on yourself that says: "DUMBASS".

It has its upsides. 3 and 4 day work weeks mean 4 and 3 day weekends. 'Course, I haven't worked a 3 day work week in a while, we're on mandatory overtime so they've all been 4 day work weeks for some time now. This week I'm only doing 3 cause I'm going on vacation. Still...3 day weekends every weekend? I can live with that. (Plus, I'm kind of used to the 12 hour workday, been doing it most of my adult life.)

Well my sympathy for the insurance companies can only be measured as a negative value, but let's throw in AARP for fun too. They didn't have to climb in bed with 404Care, and their 'mission' is to represent seniors. Except that 404 explicitly takes money from Medicare. Why the support? They figured they would get to sell a bunch of new Medigap policies out of the deal.
Moar rent seeking; in this case from a scrunt making over $400k per year as prezzy of AARP.
Insurance companies have long been in the pocket of gubmint. Let's take a quick look -- Flood insurance (required to get a mortgage, co. gets a piece for writing policy)
Auto insurance -- Mandatory to drive in many states. Includes uninsured motorists as mandatory coverage too.
Title insurance needed for mortgage.
Mortgage default insurance if you put less than 20% down.
I'm sure I can think of others if I think about it a bit.

So, you're an insurance company. The Obama mob comes to you with the carrot of requiring everyone to buy your product. That's nice, that's attractive, but what everybody forgets, everybody, is that behind all of that was the mailed fist of government with the stick: "cooperate or we'll regulate you out of business". What do you do? Do you defy them? Ethically we'd all like to say of course, but that's a monumental risk for a company or an industry to take, with very low probability of success. So, ha ha, stupid insurance companies tried to rent seek and now they're getting screwed. Yup. That's true. JJ Sefton was gloating about this the other morning, and panzershorn plays it like a one note band. They're not wrong, but the real and true problem is a government so massive, so intrusive, so overreaching that insurance companies really had no options but to go along. What do you do if your options are to rent seek or fold? Hobson's choice.

Over the past oh, twenty five or thirty years, I've sold or traded uncounted dozens of firearms on nothing more than the cash or trade transaction, a handshake and a smile.
This is by God TEXAS, and that's all the law requires. No federal bastard is going to get any more records out of me than that, and IF that.
The only records of those transactions are the satisfaction in my heart, that each and every one of 'em absolutely fcuks the federal paper trail, whether the transaction was inbound our outbound.
Frankly, I have nearly no idea what I have or don't have, anymore. So many exchanges, I may have nearly sold 'em all, just to pay for Christmas.

If we're doing Raleigh that's somewhere between a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive for me, depending on travel conditions which is fine but that would mean say 6:30 - 7:00 p.m. for me to get there. My comment @189 relates to just such an impossible box....and the answer, however cruel, is to allow monumental miscarriages of justice to occur....because only then will the even more heinous builders-of-boxes begin to see justice.
And, were I in the insurance biz, I'd want my company to be structured in such a manner that I could "go virtual" on regulators, cronies, and looters. It'd never be perfect, it'd never be a job completely done, but all those folks who got shafted out of their plans by Obamacare and saw their premiums double would be happy campers if a company with the same reputation that was headquartered in Singapore could offer them the plan they used to have.

FWIW, a local church was going to have one of those buybacks, someone pointed out they would have to have a CWP holder or require the church to get pistol purchase permits for every handgun that was turned in. I'd volunteer to be the CWP holder...but then all of those guns would be mine since buying them for someone else is a straw purchase, and thus illegal.

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a good air rifle and they are certainly an alternative to gunpowder powered firearms in certain situations (cities, etc). I was just surprised by their cost is all. But, as Mike Hammer pointed out, there's just as much machining involved if you have a rifled barrel, and for the higher powered ones, match grades and such, I'm sure the steel has to be a similar quality as well. Not much like the old brass tube Daisys at all I'm guessing.

That's a good point....
College degrees are starting to be a lifetime DRAG on earnings, since they're financed by slave loans....
I am honestly to the point I am thrilled my son is speaking of going to VoTech and working rather than going to a Moonbat Academy which is all most colleges are these days.
Posted by: sven10077 at December 28, 2013 11:43 PM (9jfyN)
Depends on the Vo, and there's college a la carte....if he's looking to be a machinist, there is all sorts of potential for him; if he's looking at legal transcription, not so much.
I'm an odd sort, in that I was probably "better educated" in a broad sense going into college than were most of the people that I graduated with coming out. Besides my major, I mostly took courses about things I knew about anyway to rack up credits....which is how I managed to graduate in 3-1/2 years when many in my major were taking 5. But it is important to have a classical education. Think of how rich this place is, and how much the right kind of education allows us all to bridge the gaps, so that we can take lessons from the ploughmen of the fields and apply them to the bricklayers, how the military has so many lessons among the peaceful....a classical education (not the current propaganda camps) aids immensely in putting things into a variety of perspectives and situations.
So I would very much encourage you to strongly urge your son towards a classical education if he goes VoTech....but in the most cost-effective manner possible. JC, online courses, and just the right book-list can make him a better man than Four Years Among the Moonbats, and with VoTech he'll be worth employing.

I had just paid about $3K for a competition smallbore, and like a fool asked about Olympic air guns. The owner handed me one, and waited until I had it shouldered to let me know that it was worth fifteen thousand dollars. Good way to get people to quit bitching about Anschutz smallbores. You never saw a man set a rifle down so carefully.

There are many more moving parts inside a precision air rifle than in a firearm, and of course there is valving too so tolerances are critical. They are always more expensive than a comparable gunpowder rifle. There's just more to them.

I also have a bottle of dark Jamaican rum, but my bar recipe book is full of complicated concoctions with all sorts of exotic ingredients. I kind of suspect that rum drink recipes came from the plantation days when the owners had servants or slaves to make their drinks for them. Does anybody have any simple rum cocktail recipes?
I know about Rum & Coke, but I'm not a big soda drinker.
Posted by: rickl at December 29, 2013 12:12 AM
Afraid not. I'm sure someone else will suggest something, but, I've had rum with just about every simple/common mix possible and they're all nasty, except coke. Out of the alternatives, lemonade would be the least offensive, IIRC.
I'm not much of a soda drinker, either, but, jeez, this is grog we're talking about. Priorities. Get the coke, stat! Or, drink yer rum straight. Get some bloody vodka, tout desuite, also. BTW- have a crack at a dirty black russian. Vodka, kahlua and coke. Awesome.

Iowahawk called it something like the most anti-PC show ever, and I can already see how that might be true. Worth checking out if you have a Netflix sub. It's a Netflix production and available on their Instant service. I enjoyed the first episode a lot and will definitely check out more. I'd like to tell you more but it would spoil things. Interesting thing is that the producer and writer names look Norwegian to me, which hints at the idea that some Norwegians came up with the idea of importing a Mafioso into their odd society and watching the results.

For years afterwards VF-41 and VF-84 were called the Hollywood Squadrons. 41 flies the Super Hornet now, 84 (surprisingly enough) is long gone. VFA-103 took their insignia and name.

That ain't like McMurdo. No air stirp, no supplies good for a year, just a cramped cold steel hull to sit in.
And no matter how well insulated, steel gets effing cold.
Did I mention condensation? Humans breathe out warm moist air. Contacting cold steel causes the moisture to condense out so everything's got a coat of wet.
Those engines give out, it's scientist popsicle time.

The ending of the series will make you have a desire to hunt down and exterminate the writers. Friend thought from the Wiki entry it was like Gall Force. Told her nope, Apollo convinces all the survivors to renounce technology and wave good-bye to the 'good Cylons' who keep their technology. In Gall Force the Solnoids, Paranoids, nor Humans or MME got out alive.

The Cylons themselves celebrate a monotheistic religion with a deity similar to the God of the Abrahamic religions. The Cylons and Colonials consider each other's religions to be false, reflecting the current Islam/Christianity/Judaism strife between the Western world and the Middle East, or clashes between colonizing forces and many indigenous or native populations throughout the age of exploration and modernity.

Since they're women, they don't have the perceptions of what they do from the male veiwpoint only from the female viewpoint.
And of course it doesn't make sense.
Women don't make sense to the majority of guys for the same reason.
The only difference I can see is that men don't spend a lot of time telling women how to act like women. (at least I don't or ever did)

No, they are in tent cities under the overpasses.
You *may* see them if it is in real time if you start looking 5 miles north of the downtown area to 5 miles south.

The fact that some genius traffic engineer figured that it's always better to merge to interstates together as you pass through an OH town.
Cincy 71/75 on the bridge, then 71/Rt50
Culumbus 71/70
Of course you have this rule to follow:
If you come into the highway merge on the R, you must cross 4 lanes of traffic and exit far L to continue on the HW you are travelling
