    1 pkg of gum paste (you can also make your own, recipe below)
    Essential or flavored oils
    Food coloring (optional)

    Plastic straw

RIP Harry Reems

Most famous for starring in Deep Throat he died last week of pancreatic cancer. But his life was more than just pr0n.

After getting out of the Marines he was a struggling actor in New York and out of desperation appeared in Deep Throat for just $250. His life and career were never the same. And after facing a Federal obscenity charge over his Deep Throat role he had a minor porn career in the early 80's before succumbing to alcoholism and finally hitting rock bottom:

In 1989 Mr. Reems, then living in Park City, Utah, stopped drinking with the help of a 12-step program. He converted to Christianity, obtained his real estate license and married Jeanne Sterret in 1990.
...For the most part Mr. Reems led a life of contented small-town obscurity in Midway, Utah, golfing, attending church and collecting Brooklyn Dodgers memorabilia. He retained the name Harry Reems, he said in interviews, as a proud emblem of an odyssey he did not regret.

So if you all could please pray for my co-worker who sustained a massive heart attack today. He is in the ICU now, and is not doing as well as he was earlier when I saw him. I've worked with him since 1995. He's an amazing person and a wonderful cardiac surgery nurse.

But being a POW doesn't qualify you to do serve as a senator. I never said it "disqualified" him so don't turn my words around. I never called him a coward. He's just a guy. A guy who's values I sincerely disagree with.

What I take exception to is his credibility bolstered by the fact he was a POW. The two are completely unrelated.

You CAN be a coward and survive as a POW. And you CAN be a hero and survive as a POW.

In either case, that fact does not, and should not, be a fact of consideration for holding seat in the US Senate.

Character, moral obligation, trust and integrity to your constituency should be the only factors.

Getting shot down and captured and surviving? Well, that's a story for elsewhere. And he's the shining example of why NOT to consider that as a qualifier.

The benefits of issue- and policy- activism should not be understated either. It's actually something that's relatively cheap and easy to do, and it doesn't require you to me a part of the GOP. Senators are hard to unseat because of the usual benefits of incumbency coupled with the long election cycle- six years. If you want to unseat an incumbent of your own party, it is just about impossible without electoral victoriries in your pocket and the help of a signifigant portion of your state party. Not to mention millions of dollars of your own money, because fundraising from scratch on that scale is just silly-impossible.

Modified sounds good. I'm about ready to switch to a HVLP gun for the moldings. My problem is I spent years as an interior trim guy doing fancy moldings, so I can't do simple moldings. Nooo... couldn't keep the dining room and living room simple. I had to do corbelled arches and crown top windows with rope moldings, etc, and so when I have to paint it I get flashbacks of the sistine chapel. Every time the wife says paint I don't know if I should grab a paint brush or a chainsaw.

Well there was the episode where I fired a shot gun at a hanging island cabinet when I gutted the kitchen.

True story. I curse the dude I got the house from every time I have to do anything. He was a menace. I always find stupid shit and have to undo his crap before moving forward. When I was gutting the kitchen the assclown had some stupid hanging island cab hanging from the ceiling. the bastard used six 3/8 threaded rods that went through the cab up into the attic. The prick bent the rods over in the attic so there was no way to turn the nuts off up there and where he had the nuts inside the cab were so close to the sides of the cab it was next to impossible to get a wrench on it, so it was like dealing with a chinese handcuff. I remember yelling "Oh.. fuck this guy" I grabbed a shot gun and shot the fucker where it hung.

It felt fucking good, and damn right I would do it again.

529 Found some cool stuff in my old house while doing some demolition: some cardboard from an old Zenith packing crate - had a big Naziesque eagle and the phrase 'Always a year ahead, now years ahead'. I also found a mostly flawless newspaper from September, 1918. It was folded up and used as a shim, so never exposed to bugs or moisture...the articles were about battling the Huns and the flu epidemic.

In my mind, a hero is someone who makes a hard choice when given an easier alternative.

Someone who places his or her well being, or life, on the line as a matter of choice. Now if you ask a true hero, they'll just say they did what they thought they should be doing at the time, and they'll shy away an never take credit because it hurts their heart.

McCain never did that. In fact, he sold out within 5 days of being captured. Being tortured isn't a choice. Does it suck? More than a little bit.
