If Only Women Were In Charge

The world would be a nearly perfect place without war or cruelty or puffy-face judgment according to Feminists.

But Neo-neocon disagrees:

Nothing in my experience or my observation of human beings indicates that this would be so. I'm not speaking of individual men and women, who have a broad range of characteristics with a great deal of overlap. But in the aggregate, there is nothing "better" about the way women operate, either in terms of the way they treat other people, the policies they advocate, or the degree of their propensity for tyranny.

The world wouldn't be better, although it would probably be different. The tyranny of women in charge would probably resemble something like the world Sarah Conly envisions; they don't call it the nanny state for nothing.

But don't expect the Matriarchy to be any kinder or gentler - especially to women.  My mother who fought her way up in business back when women were relatively rare once observed that even men who were male chauvinists might still ally and work with her if they had a common interest - but women always treated her as an enemy no matter what.

And Dan Collins in Men Are From Bad, Women Are From Good points out that modern feminist theory has labored to make women the holders of all virtue while men are but the nasty, smelly, violent dross remaining.

On numerous occasions, I've noted that the entire business of third-wave feminism is simply to place all the attractive aspects of human nature in the bucket marked 'feminine,' while consigning all the ugly ones to the dumpster marked 'masculine.' Mrs. Clinton's recent performances demonstrate that she labors in this peculiar racket, and that she plans on making such rhetoric a Martha Stewart Living centerpiece of her presidential campaign. Should a man exhibit the qualities of tenderness, compassion, devotion, sacrifice, it is merely because he is 'in touch with his feminine side.' He is, as the proggies like to say (and they've been saying it since there have been proggies) more evolved than the general run of men. In what direction has he evolved? In the direction of the condition of womanhood.

Also a 'feminine' trait: social collectivism.

It's nice that it isn't a zero-sum game, but one can't help noticing that all of this metaphorical manipulation is performed with the dual purpose not only of advancing the status of women in our society, but also of arguing for social collectivism, without all of this yucky focus on those individual rights that threaten the security of all those uniquely individual human beings who rely on . . . collectivism, with its zero-sum rhetoric about pie slices, fairly doled out by Nanny Pie Slicer.

Bloomberg: If You Sell a Gun to Your Son, 'There's Something Wrong in Your Family

But giving them away is okay? Somehow I don't think Bloomberg is down with that either.

The bill would require universal background checks for most sales of firearms, including those online and at gun shows.

"The only thing it would not cover is if you sold a gun to your son, for example," Bloomberg told radio host John Gambling.  "Number one, I don't know how we would ever enforce that if it were the law. So to make a big deal about that's carved out, so what? It doesn't change anything."

"Number two, I would argue if you want to sell your gun to your son, maybe you have a problem in your family," he said.  "Why don't you just give-I don't know if you should have a gun or not, but if you have a commercial transaction of $100 with your son, there's something wrong in your family.

And our high-functioning Vice President, Joe Biden, says you're buying guns for the wrong reasons:

"There is a whole new sort of group of individuals now who - I don't know what the numbers are - that never hunt at all," Biden said. "But they own guns for one of two reasons, self-protection or they just like the feel of that AR-15 at the range. They like the way it feels."

Biden imitated holding a weapon and added, "You know, it's like driving a Ferrari, Do you know what I mean?"

"My impression is there's not the same sort of cultural norm about gun ownership with a lot of people who are buying guns now," Biden added recalling a dinner he attended in Delaware sponsored by the "White Neck Hunting Club."

In terms of house prices to average income. DC is #1 followed by the three biggest cities in California. Meanwhile houses in Dallas, Chicago, Vegas, and Atlanta are actually getting more affordable since average income is growing faster than home prices.

What If We All Died at 40?

Sort of a delayed Logan's Run.

I think one of the things that make planning (and living) life so hard is the combination of the facts  that
  1. Its end date is uncertain
  2. It is rather highly likely that one's faculties will be duller towards the end.
If it was certain that when we sleep on our 40th birthday, we wouldn't wake up, how different would the world be? Economically? Culturally? Will it be more peaceful? More left leaning?

Modern Life: Pirate Party Launches File-Sharing Fine Insurance

"On the Internet, it is very difficult to know what is legal and what is not, especially as the copyright law has little basis in public opinion on justice," said Gustav Nipe, chairman of the Pirate Party youth league, Ung Pirat, which is the organisation behind the insurance.

"We are therefore seeing to it that internet users can always feel safe on the internet," he said.

The insurance concept is inspired by planka.nu, a group which pays fines incurred for getting caught without a ticket in the Stockholm metro.

The risks of getting caught while file-sharing remain small with only a small number of people having been prosecuted in recent years.

But the risk remains and the insurance is being marketed as an economical way to insurance against financial penalty.

I foresee the coming of Internet liability insurance.

South Not the Fattest Region After All

Just the most honest about their weight. Especially to strangers on the phone.

The notion that the South is the fattest comes primarily from a nationwide telephone survey done by the Centers for Disease Control, in which the surveyor asks for height and weight, among other things, Howard said.

That survey, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), shows the South as the most obese, with Mississippi and Alabama, the number one and two fattest states respectively.

UAB study compared nine Census Bureau regions and found that East Souh Central was fifth, not first, in percentage of its population obese.

But the UAB researchers found that when people were actually weighed, the numbers didn't add up.

Mississippi was fourth and Alabama was in the middle of the pack, Howard said.

Living the Real Madrid Dream

Abel Rodríguez waxes floors for a living in Los Angeles and takes two weeks of vacation a year to work gratis for Real Madrid when the European football club trains in Los Angeles every summer. He had always dreamed of seeing Real Madrid playing their Spanish rivals Barcelona in Madrid, so his family persuaded him to go. He went. With no hotel or ticket to the game, he sat outside the club's training complex for hours until manager José Mourinho spotted him as he was leaving..."Stop! It's the guy from Los Angeles." Thus began Abel Rodríguez's magical journey.

Well as Adam Carolla has pointed out before a lot of success in life comes from just showing up and being willing to work for free in order to get your foot in the door. One of his examples is how he spent most of a day waiting by a dumpster behind KROQ for Jimmy Kimmel to come out in order to volunteer for one of their radio gags. That gag turned into a career.

7 Today was first day of work. About 75 minutes driving into Glendale; two whole fucking hours driving back. Oh yeah and my front window wipers froze solid so I could barely see at the end of it. I am *not* enjoying this weather.

Also I have to take a drug test tomorrow, because they didn't have time over the past four weeks I waited to start, before they told me they needed one. Which I don't because I don't do drugs, but meh.

Initial impressions, so far, suck. But it was what I could get after these months in the john.

79 Women take forever to leave parties. Because they have to make sure none of the women staying behind are gonna bad mouth behind their back once they leave. When a woman leaves a party and goes to seemingly every other woman to say goodbye individually she's mainly just saying -- You don't hate me, right? We're cool, right? You aren't going to slag me once I'm out the door, right? Ok. Good. Love you, too.

92 A hundred bucks for a gun? Bloomberg is..unacquainted with the economics of firearms, to no one's shock. Unless you've got a fetish for Jennings or Lorcins they run quite a bit more than that. A pretty typical autoloading pistol would be somewhere around $500, AR-15 somewhere short of a grand (pre-panic), and can easily run to $2K for nice copies with optics. For a 30-something adult child and a 60-something parent there's nothing wrong with doing some intra-family sales at near market prices.

95 If women ran the world a year would not go by without a nuclear weapon being used somewhere. I've know far too many women who only had two modes when it came to violence: off and utterly batshit insane intent on killing you dead, with no setting in between.

It may take a lot to inspire them to violence but once they go over the edge they immediately go for the biggest thing in the arsenal.

One definition of "a good person" is that they do (good) things, not because they think they're "good" things, but because they can't see themselves behaving in any other way.  So, therefore, they think that there's nothing intrinsically "good" about how they behave.

I like that definition, personally.

158 There's always a big push to put women in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and the premise they have is that there is some sort of discrimination on the part of men in hiring or taking grad students. Like men in math departments don't like to have young women walking around. Anyway, there are many reasons why women aren't well-represented in STEM, but you can't discount that women are kept out of those fields for the same reason that you can keep a bunch of lobsters in a shallow bucket without having to worry about one of them climbing out.

(They bought my sister a new car before she graduated, but she's attractive and sucks at math.  Mmmrph.)

187 It's my observation that most women bosses run the place like they are in high school.I've had few women bosses that I've liked working for.

As for women in tech, several times a week, some woman will say to me, "Oh I was looking for tech support.". I usually let it slide, although I have lightly tweaked a few for it. It's 2013. Do they really think that women just handle billing? And, I've had a number of women scream at me, one for five minutes straight while I put her on mute. She was still going at it when I got back. I will say that the women do sometimes apologize afterwards. The men, not so much.

More than one woman.  More than one time.  Over a period of several years.

And I don't think it was (only) because I was a particularly good supervisor.  (And no, I was not at the time a particularly studly male, either, somewhat to my regret--some of the women reporting to me were . . . rather attractive, whilst I was basically a pasty white lump).

When I worked doing high end  kitchens and baths I worked in some pretty rich areas where "real housewives" types were the norm, and they'll set up their own little fiefdoms amongst their circle of friends using the hubby's money, and if it was their money the husband was treated like the gardener, or hired help.

If women were completely in charge it would be no safer, or moral, or less violent.

212 Men have a higher standard of deviation for most traits - including IQ and conscientiousness, two traits highly predictive of life success. This is true of the males of pretty much all mammals. The result is the top of society is dominated by men. But so is the bottom. Senators and CEOs tend to be male. But so do homeless bums and suicide and homicide victims. The alphs male life is pretty awesome. Often having multiple wives and more children. But that means the loser males get no wife at all and no kids. Feminists are upper class women upset their alpha male brothers have it better than they do. They don't give a shit about the loser males. But nobody gives a shit about low status males. Biologically they are expendable.

233 I've always liked workplaces with a mixture of men and women. Too many women working together and it turns into junior high school. But I've also worked for and with quite a few male assholes and made lasting friends with some women I've worked with. Women - some are nice; some are not. Which makes them, in that respect, exactly like men.

If women ran the world there would be a lot less violence. Most women I know don't have the nerve to tell someone, to their face, or pick a fight to someone's face.  Now.... there would be a hell of a lot of intrigue, behind the back bitchiness, passive agressive BS. Lots of ganging up, fair weather friends, shifting alliances, plotting and scheming, but everyone would be "just fine" and sweet as pie to each other's faces.

Now, I say that with an asterisk.  There is a younger generation of violent, heartless, flat out scary women out there.  Mostly lower class. But the fact that there are now young women who will kill you as soon as look at you worries me an awful lot.

My daughter (10) has friends who have zero manners, who jump on the furntiure, burp, fart, and run wild.  People used to excuse that behavior in little boys (which drove me NUTS) but apparently now they excuse it in girls too. I blame soccer.

I had an open mind about it when my old boss left and his sidekick woman was left in charge, but she was awful, and drove the place into the ground.

She gave the outgoing boss a backhanded compliment in our post-separation meeting; she's a small, small person. She had no knowledge, experience, or interest in the subject matter of the business. She'd rely on her designated "guru" for technical wisdom.

This guy was an old hippie, with a freakish beard a foot long. He had spent most of his career in or managing a rock band, and his main qualification was that he had taken a single computer graphics course at the local university. He had NPD, like Obama, and would just (literally) make crap up as he went along, and was a pathological liar. He was wrong over half the time.

Indications were that boss lady knew he was constantly lying - even to her - but she was fiercely loyal to him anyway - BECAUSE HE WAS THE COMSUMMATE SYCOPHANT, AND ALWAY, ALWAYS, ALWAYS TOLD HER EXATLY WHAT SHE WANTED TO HEAR. Naturally, they were both barking-mad liberals.

She was very attractive, but aging. She would make little comments that showed her intense jealousy of younger attractive women.

The business declined steadily. I wonder if anything is left of it at this point.

Yeah, she was a "piece of work," and ruined that job, and that business. But I can't speak for all women bosses.

I've had some really bad female bosses in the past, I've also had some really terrible male bosses. The only real difference I could note is that with some of the bad male bosses I've had something would happen, bad blood would get stirred up and then it often it would blow over. With the bad female bosses, well once you made the list that was it - nothing blew over. The moment you got on that radar, your career was over and it was time to start looking elsewhere. That was really the only major difference I saw between the two - but for the most part I'd say a bad boss is a bad boss I guess.

324 Now, I say that with an asterisk. Full disclosure: I am a chick. Posted by: the other coyote at April 15, 2013 11:32 PM (DmLAM) The victims of the War on Boys are not limited to boys. I know a girl who doesn't have a father, only a mother and grandmother. To other women, she is physical, violent, and intemperate. But to men, she is overly differential and seeking their approval. That is a bad combination.

328 "229 ... There are plenty, but not in the 50/50 split they want. I've found in my calculus classes (land grand school) that women are 40+% of the A, A- and B+ students. Then that number drops off rapidly and picks up again in the D's.

But if you look at almost any university the split is more like 60/40 female.

Nobody complains there are too many women in English literature.

Posted by: AmishDude at April 15, 2013 11:26 PM (T0NGe) "

Some of that could just be that women are better students, overall - that's just the impression I get. When I went to college, engineering was maybe 1/4 and 1/5 women. Now my daughter is studying electrical engineering at a huge state university and from what I can tell it's about the same.

When I was in EE, I took an informal poll of what fraction of us were women, and I figured something like 1/10. But I couldn't really say, because honest-to-God the number of "I can't tell which sex" was about equal to the "clearly female".

In my daughter's classes, I occasionally see a class list, and the problem is that she one of about two women in EE with English-recognizable names. There are so many Asians (Indians and Chinese, mostly) that I have no clue what sex a lot of them are. My daughter doesn't seem to be able to get a read on it. She must have really rocked their EE world last semester, when she got a 4.0...

329 Reading a few comments, I just remembered, someone posted somewhere somewhen back a ways that Eddie Haskell died. Maybe it was a reference I missed, because Ken Osmond is still alive (and partying with Abe Vigoda), as far as Professor Internet knows. And Jeff Goldblum. And Paul McCartney. So much for my lead-in context. But anyway... Eddie Haskell was a great character. He taught us so much. A generation that grew up without Eddie Haskell elected him to be President.

Being a barking mad lib probably had as much or more to do with it as her sex. In my experience - barking mad lib female - either obnoxious feminist or New Age ditz. Barking mad lib male - either passive aggressive wuss whose significant other carries his balls in her purse or Rahm Emmanuel grade shitheel. He has all the correct political beliefs so he doesn' t have to be nice or decent."

You might enjoy that boss woman never had any kids, and ZZTop man was always divorced (no kids either) and would show up at the company Xmas parties with a series of women who looked like trashy hookers.

The guy she put in charge of me was a complete psycho, and over time I would realize that he was the very model of the guys you hear about who go nuts and start blowing away everybody at work with a gun. He was too socially incompetent to have ever even go out with a girl, although he was straight. He would baracade himself behind bookshelves in his office. He once sent something - registered mail - to my home, and I thought that was so disturbing that I never picked it up, but reported it to a very alarmed-looking HR. He would literally hide stuff from us that we needed to do our jobs (a control freak thing, I guess). I could go on for pages - I'm not even warmed up yet.

It's a tragedy, because that place started off as great place to work - maybe the best place I ever worked.

I finally forced my mother to get her paperwork together this morning. She wanted me to file for an extension and I told that wasn't going to happen. Even though I have some of the same tendencies I marvel at how she got through life like this. She'll look at a pile of papers that have to be sorted through and just freeze up.

I did that as a child when told to clean my room but that was almost 40 years ago. Anyway, I managed to claw back about $1300 for between state and federal. I probably could have gotten a lot more if she would just exercise the slightest vestige of organization.

It was re-titled as The Best of the Seekers in the UK and spent 6 weeks at No. 1 in 1969, managing to knock the Beatles' (White Album) off the top of the charts and preventing the Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet from reaching the top spot. The album spent 125 weeks in the charts in the UK. So they were kind of a big deal back then.

414 BTW, I work in an almost all women workplace.  Whoever thinks the world would be better if women were in charge must be on drugs.  We have women here, who refuse, REFUSE to allow anyone to transfer to their divisions unless it's a man, or ask to be transferred out if there's a female supervisor in charge.  This is WOMEN doing this. Even they've had enough.

Imagine General Hospital or Days of Our Lives with all the drama, minus the men.  I think this is pretty much what hell looks like.

415 See this on Drudge?  It's a Gallup poll on the "fairness" of income taxes.

"Fewer Americans Now View Their Income Taxes as Fair The 55% who say their taxes are fair is lowest since 2001"
But the article's URL defeats ring-finger-up-his-nose-til-it-bleeds Pixy's world-class GENIUS ....

So I have to shorten it.

...But wait a sec here, while  I call my Indian bike-wallah in Hyderabad, ask him to crank up and boot his battery-powered PC using his tri-shaw "hypothecated to the Nandi Bank",  wait for it to display google, go to "make a tiny URL", and...here it is!

http://tinyurl.com/cxs3c7h

It's a freaking miracle, I tell you!   Time and progress march on --- except Pixy and his love-slave Ace (do you really wonder why no one's ever seen him?) are not on the parade route.

Anyway...

If you look at their sampling methodology (random adults) , it doesn't appear that they ask up front if their respondents PAY federal taxes!  At least they don't say so.*

Yes, I know they show the fairness trend is down, but...

If I paid ZIP year after year, I would say that's "fair"...wouldn't you?  And wouldn't it be pertinent to note how many more such folk pay no taxes, which might influence the attitudes of those who do?

*Maybe they do ask in the actual poll, but you can't find the questions on-line.  Their main site adds nothing to the article, and if you search "methodology" there, you get bupkis.

416 #408 Hard to pick a "favorite" John Wayne movie. The ones that spring to mind immediately: Big Jake Rooster Cogburn - always liked it better than true grit, the interplay between the Duke and Hepburn was classic. Green Berets - only the Duke could have gotten this movie made at the time Hellfighters Two others that spring to mind that most folks don't generally think of, Operation Pacific and In Harms Way

420 I got quite a big-ass refund, mostly because I maxed my IRA deduction.  Then I immediately adjusted my withholding by $300 a paycheck for the feds and $100 a paycheck for the state.  I would much rather owe them than have them owe me, because I know I'm good for it.  Them, I consider that a crapshoot even in a good year.

How did we arrive at a point where only 50% of citizens pay taxes is fair?

If you want to argue from fairness, the government should take the amount of money its spends, divide it by the number of citizens, and send everyone a bill.

If he snipped their spines in the birth canal that's legal, outside it's not. Inside takes skill he didn't have.

Do not read the following if you are easily offended.

"Sluggor, by this stage, can think of nothing more complex than remembering his name and that is not a sure thing as Moonlight Rain continues to work her magic upon his non-resisting or is that compliant body.  The moan that comes out he can not tell if its from his throat or her's as her tongue continues to writhe and cavort in his mouth playing its own little game of seduction.  He can feel her pressing against him, he is trapped by her arms wrapping him up but he does not want to escape the embrace, her breasts are pressing through the thin fabric of his shirt and her low cut blouse, and those nipples of her's are like small thimbles in their erection and are rubbing in tight little circles against his chest."

485 Channel 5 is still covering it. The number of injured seems to increase by the hour. This was a full fledged terror bombing, far worse than I had thought. What's weird is the scant details concerning the JFK library fire.

518 And the Ravelry group is tempting me as I emailed Elizabethe today.

What is really unsettling today.  I was eating a late lunch at a Ward's.  They had CNN on.  Talking about the stock market.  Their financial talking head was pontificating about how in the summer months the market loses value.  The analogy he used was basically 'the market needs a rest like the runner from Marathon."

And what immediately popped in my mind was; the runner from Marathon dropped dead after delivering his report.

Then get home and a short while later.  Boston literally explodes during the marathon.  Ugh.

I know this is not the way you're supposed to feel after a terrorist attack, but because it happened in the Northeast, which is made up of Blue startes, I just don't give a Rats Ass. All that Happy Horseshit about being politically correct tends to make me feel like this is what you voted for, deal with it.

I feel nothing  like I did on Sept 11, when I was frightened and confused and mostly angry.
I just can't manage the emotion. The past 4 1/3 years have been Hell. I find myself retreating emotionally and in a chronic state of waiting things out.
