You know the deal by now. Just be cool and everyone comes out a winner. That means you too lurker-fawn-types. The Ewok doesn't like surprises, bad news, situations requiring eye contact, or people whining about missed contractual obligations. So let's all keep him nice and non-agitated.
Worthwhile Pressure Cooker Policy Announced
There was once a little man called Niggle, who had a long journey to make. He did not want to go, indeed the whole idea was distasteful to him; but he could not get out of it. He knew he would have to start some time, but he did not hurry with his preparations.Niggle was a painter. Not a very successful one, partly because he had many other things to do.Most of these things he thought were a nuisance; but he did them fairly well, when he could not get out of them: which (in his opinion) was far too often. The laws in his country were rather strict. There were other hindrances, too. For one thing, he was sometimes just idle, and did nothing at all.For another, he was kind-hearted, in a way. You know the sort of kind heart: it made him uncomfortable more often than it made him do anything; and even when he did anything, it did not prevent him from grumbling, losing his temper, and swearing (mostly to himself). All the same, it did land him in a good many odd jobs for his neighbour, Mr. Parish, a man with a lame leg. Occasionally he even helped other people from further off, if they came and asked him to. Also, now and again, he remembered his journey, and began to pack a few things in an ineffectual way: at such times he did not paint very much.
He had a number of pictures on hand; most of them were too large and ambitious for his skill. He was the sort of painter who can paint leaves better than trees. He used to spend a long time on a single leaf, trying to catch its shape, and its sheen, and the glistening of dewdrops on its edges. Yet he wanted to paint a whole tree, with all of its leaves in the same style, and all of them different. There was one picture in particular which bothered him.
Salon: Let's Hope the Marathon Bomber is a White American
Because that would be useful to the Left's cause. Also because White Privilege.
Note the category error of treating a sex and an ethnic group as being the same type of group as members of a particular religion.
Likewise, in the context of terrorist attacks, such privilege means white non-Islamic terrorists are typically portrayed not as representative of whole groups or ideologies, but as "lone wolf" threats to be dealt with as isolated law enforcement matters. Meanwhile, non-white or developing-world terrorism suspects are often reflexively portrayed as representative of larger conspiracies, ideologies and religions that must be dealt with as systemic threats - the kind potentially requiring everything from law enforcement action to military operations to civil liberties legislation to foreign policy shifts.
"White privilege is knowing that even if the bomber turns out to be white, no one will call for your group to be profiled as terrorists as a result, subjected to special screening or threatened with deportation," writes author Tim Wise.
Because of these undeniable and pervasive double standards, the specific identity of the Boston Marathon bomber (or bombers) is not some minor detail - it will almost certainly dictate what kind of governmental, political and societal response we see in the coming weeks. That means regardless of your particular party affiliation, if you care about everything from stopping war to reducing the defense budget to protecting civil liberties to passing immigration reform, you should hope the bomber was a white domestic terrorist. Why? Because only in that case will privilege work to prevent the Boston attack from potentially undermining progress on those other issues.
In their Jihadi monthly, Inspire, they have articles like "How To Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mother". I guess using hot plates in the basement is too technical.
Manufacturers are operating flat-out but can't keep up with demand, as consumers snap up every box of ammo as soon as it comes on the market. Wal-Mart limits buyers to three boxes when they're available, and Cabela's is limiting online orders to one box per day of the popular .22 long shells increasingly used as cheap ammo for target rifles and pistols.
...But why the national shortage? Here's my theory: Bullets are easy to store, non-perishable, and they hold their value or even increase in times of crisis. So they're a lot like gold or any other commodity that has served as hard money through the ages (or even the canned mackerel fillets that serve as currency in U.S. prisons, according to this classic 2008 Wall Street Journal story). With states like Connecticut and Colorado passing strict new restrictions on gun owners and the President flying around the country to drum up support for national gun control, ammo buyers are like consumers queuing for gas or loading up on gold in the inflationary 1970s. They're creating their own shortage.
Well according to an old family friend back in the Depression days people often bartered in ammunition and liquor since they could be used as needed or stored for long periods.
The Coming Ricky Jay Documentary
Ricky Jay, who is perhaps the most gifted sleight-of-hand artist alive, was performing magic with a deck of cards. Also present was a friend of Mamet and Mosher's named Christ Nogulich, the director of food and beverage at the hotel. After twenty minutes of disbelief-suspending manipulations, Jay spread the deck face up on the bar counter and asked Nogulich to concentrate on a specific card but not to reveal it. Jay then assembled the deck face down, shuffled, cut it into two piles, and asked Nogulich to point to one of the piles and name his card."Three of clubs," Nogulich said, and he was then instructed to turn over the top card.
He turned over the three of clubs.
Mosher, in what could be interpreted as a passive-aggressive act, quietly announced, "Ricky, you know, I also concentrated on a card."
After an interval of silence, Jay said, "That's interesting, Gregory, but I only do this for one person at a time."
Mosher persisted: "Well, Ricky, I really was thinking of a card."
Jay paused, frowned, stared at Mosher, and said, "This is a distinct change of procedure." A longer pause. "All right-what was the card?"
"Two of spades."
Jay nodded, and gestured toward the other pile, and Mosher turned over its top card.
The deuce of spades.
A small riot ensued.
For some reason saxophones were really big in 80's music. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not. Me - I can take or leave the sax but I do think modern music needs more trombone.
There are various reasons that men get crewcuts, but there seems to be a common factor: a crewcut signals transition and commitment. It means humility, curiosity, perseverance, and purpose. A crewcut means that a man has gotten serious about something, be it God or subsuming his ego to become a member of a football team. I once saw Mark Hamill in an interview say that he felt that Luke Skywalker, his iconic character in Star Wars, should have come back in the third film with a crewcut-a signal that he was no longer a whiny adolescent but a scarred bad-ass who was ready to die for a cause. George Lucas, wrong as usual, nixed the idea.

my poor son gets hassled all the time about his hair by his Dad and stepmom. He won't get a buzz cut, which his father and stepmother think he needs. His dad is always shrieking about how long it is and bitching at me that he will turn into a juvenile delinquent hanging out behind the gym and smoking because his hair is so damn long.
His hair is cut above his ears on the sides and just below his ears on the back of his neck. I guess that is the new defnition for "hippie hair"?

he agrees he made a shitload of money
then he tells her:
"I spent a shitload of money. I had five girls. You gotta remember I had five girls. That's a lot of money. And a lot of PMS!"

1. I have what you might euphemistically call a 'high forehead'.
2. I'm a cheap bastard.

white non-Islamic terrorists are typically portrayed not as representative of whole groups or ideologies, but as "lone wolf" threats to be dealt with as isolated law enforcement matters. Meanwhile, non-white or developing-world terrorism suspects are often reflexively portrayed as representative of larger conspiracies,
As I posted earlier today, I tuned into NPR in the car to see how they were covering Boston: It was exactly the opposite of what Salon described. Exactly. Any Islamic suspect would likely be a lone wolf influenced by something he saw on the web. And NPR is in lockstep with the rest of mainstream media.
Bang up job, Salon. Hope you charge your readers extra for their White Guilt fix.

I don't own a pressure cooker yet, but I'm enjoying my first crock pot type deal. Yeah, let's hope it's a privileged white bomber with white privilege. And a white rubber bracelet handed out in a public school recognizing white privilege. Or demonizing it, I can't keep up. I'm still going with what I figured within five minutes of the second tower getting hit.
My liquor hoarding situation is what I should really be focusing on, since it is still readily available vs. ammo or canned mackerel. I just have a hard time getting ahead of the valu-rite consumption rate. Ricky Jay could be an Endor native. Bill Clinton ruined the sax for me, but Men At Work are solid. The day the Right stops wetting its pants over race is the day we start growing as a movement. This "white privilege" crap is nothing but a broad, insulting generalization of a race of people: what we normally call "racism."
The Left hasn't had anything useful to say about race relations in at least a half-century. Time to stomp them on it.

Kansas: Governor Brownback Signs Pro-Gun Bill into Law
Today, Governor Sam Brownback (R) signed House Bill 2052 into law. This new law takes effect on July 1, 2013.
HB 2052 will make the following pro-gun improvements in Kansas:
Exempts the lawful discharge of firearms—whether for hunting or self-defense—from criminal prosecution.
Requires that government and public buildings that prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for self-defense must screen all visitors for weapons. This would ensure that ALL individuals who enter the buildings are disarmed, not just the law-abiding citizens who choose to follow the law. If a building lacks the adequate security measures necessary to screen all visitors, then residents with a concealed carry license would be allowed to carry a firearm to protect themselves while visiting that particular building.
Makes the personal information of concealed carry license applicants confidential and exempt from Freedom of Information Act requests.
Exempts law enforcement officers from the training requirements necessary to obtain a concealed carry license.
Authorizes school officials to allow staffers and visitors to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense.

Hillary Swank looks clean and fresh. Amy (and I loved her, so it's not about that) always looked like she just crawled out from under a crackhouse. Tragic, yes. Do-able, I am amazed anyone would ever want to hit that. Perhaps I am naive.
LOVED her music, though, she was amazing.

And, yet, I feel nothing but pity for any young girl who doesn't think that the good Lord made her just perfect. And, I've seen too many who were perfect until they, for some incomprehensible reason, thought that they could improve on that with graffiti. I think it's sad. I know some absolutely lovely young women who went that route and it just makes me sad. However, I don't lose sleep over it, do what you will, be happy and God bless.

Many years ago my girlfriend who I was living with managed to lose her key while we had a car full of groceries (she was special).
So we got a locksmith, but didn't have any money to pay him - we'd just bought groceries and spent our money. He could see we were in a bind and told us we could pay him when we had the money, helped us, and was on his way.
I paid him back a few weeks later - over the GF's objections. I guess in modern Obamamerica she was right and I was wrong. Someone else will always pay for your mistakes.

Just to clear some air,
"Tats" in a former time, were a very solemn and dignified giving of ones own skin to state a great event that should the bearer die, the event would be carried to the grave with the bearer...least with seafaring types....
I do not wish to go into all the various tribal aspects.....such have been corrupted and hijacked by the present lot....for being "THE LOOK AT ME!!!! playground types."

Superbad is what first made me interested in her. She walked away with every scene she was in, personality as well as looks. Plus, it was Judd Apatow that thought she'd look good as a redhead, so Superbad is a vital component to her success.
Easy A baffled me. Good script but it completely broke my suspension of disbelief that Olive wasn't plagued with boys constantly trying to get on her good side. But a lot of movies and TV shows have the problem of asking us to believe somebody is only mildly attractive within the setting of the movie while the audience is drooling over her.
There is a movie Hollywood makes over and over. Teenage guy has dark haired female friend he looks upon as a sister/buddy. He is gaga over some unreachable blonde while she pines away or worse, is put in the position of being enlisted to help him pursue the blonde. First example that got my attention was 'My Secret Admirer' in which the male lead has failed to notice his childhood friend has grown up to be Lori Loughlin. Another is the 'The Trojan War' where the hero is pursuing Marley Shelton. All well and good but his childhood friend has grown up to be Jennifer Love Hewitt!

She finally relented and let me get my ears pierced a few years later, when I was 17 and in high school. The kicker was that she let my sister, who was 7 years younger, the same age I was when I pierced my ears myself, get pierced ears, too.
Sux to be the oldest girl.
Anyway, done blabbing for tonight. Have fun kiddos, and as someone said upthread, try not to trash the place.

Yeah, and all that PT 107 was made up by Ted Sorensen when he ghost wrote JFK's book.
Kennedy fucked up and was not where he was suppose to be and should have been court marshaled. Rich is good.
**************************************************
Sorry, but the Navy looked at "all that" and while it faulted Kennedy for many of his actions up to the sinking of PT109 ( not PT107), his subsequent undertakings to save his crew and secure their rescue were considered mitigating. So, yes, his heroics came after the Japanese sank his boat.
Most do not know that Kennedy was later promoted to 1st Lt. and saw a lot of real combat as commander of another boat, the PT59.
A more balanced look at Kennedy's wartime exploits may be found here:
http://www.historynet.com/john-f-kennedy
At least with regards to his combat naval career, JFK was no John Effing Kerry.

when I was in high school I worked as a cashier in the last grocery store that delivered groceries to the little old ladies. One lady would come in, and this was in the early 80s mind you, and she had tats on her arms. She had to be at least in her 70s. Which meant she got the tats waaayy before the curve, and probably had some stories to tell.
I digress. The lines of her tats blurred as her old skin lost elasticity. Looked like pen on paper left in the rain. Was enough to convince me that tats were not for anyone looking to get old

pretty much, its just the think for a person who feels like they have heard it all and it sick of every frickin thing i was hearin. through the years they have changed, but they did do a song about a TraKtor and every time i hear it, i think of Robert, and see the title in Cyrillic. the later stuff has a thrash edge. they get more current and less eighties/seventies covers as time goes on. this concert was filmed in entirity 2 years after peristroika

I know many older men with those...I guess if you think about it, they're cool in their own way (full disclaimer - I am ink-free), since you had to have been there and done that to get the tat in the first place, and even after all that you had to have lived long enough for it to fall into disrepair.

You can get itty bitty Bluetooth keyboards that aren't much good for serious typing but are a convenient way to add cursor controls that are difficult at best in touch-only environments. I've got a little rubbery flexible one that is good for entering passwords on the PS3 and is also well suited to use in bed if only because you can fall asleep and roll over it with stabbing yourself or breaking the keyboard.

Being that my home range maxes at 100 yds. (it's in a valley), I won't have a chance to find out anytime soon. I've no doubt my little CZ .22 could go further and stay on target in good conditions once I found the hold, but there's really no good place to try it around here. I have to drive quite a ways to find a spot that flat.

I've seen the youtube videos of long shots, so I know it's possible, and I have decent ammo (Eley, but the Mexican low-end stuff). However, this particular CZ will never wear a scope, as it has the "droopy" Euro-style stock which makes for a perfect cheekweld with irons, and no weld at all with a scope. It points and fits perfectly the way it is, so it will stay the way it is. I've shot other .22s that don't do either, so I know what I have, and how special it is when you have a rifle that fits you and its purpose nearly perfectly. I've been looking for one with an American style stock to mount a scope on, but with the current inventory situation, I've had no luck thus far. If I do find one, the barrel is getting 1/2x28 threads (and you know why), I'll bed the stock, and float the barrel. I. Can't. Wait.

I suspect that all the shootings, bombings, etc as of late may be the left ramping up. Whatta they got to lose? Full Throttle. Investigations?
They mean it.

Israel does a better job in these criminal investigations than Boston.

Men; Long hair -> Ear ring -> Tats-> Body modifications
As one thing became accepted the next needed to be adopted to show your cool and to stick it to the man.
And to be unique. Like everybody else.

For years, the left-wing media has been spewing accusations at Tea Party patriots and right-leaning Republicans for every act of terrorist violence on American soil. When Soldiers in Arkansas and Texas were murdered by radical muslims, the MSM switched into high gear over a "backlash against muslims and in some cases, blamed the victims.
The leftwing bullshit machine did the same thing during the Texas murders of three white district attorneys, which they quickly blamed on “Aryan Brotherhood white supremacists”. A white male Justice of the Peace pulled the trigger, so there's that "white extremist" they hoped for.
They've been consistently wrong: Bill Sparkman, Joe Stack, Amy Bishop, John Patrick Bedell, and Jared Loughner were all leftwing wackjobs with an anti-society ax to grind.
When muzzie extremist Faisal Shahzad planted a car bomb in Times Square, lefties got in a real funk when they realized it wasn't a McVeigh clone.
McVeigh, whom the left holds up as a poster child for "white extremism" was an agnostic, and did not have a world-wide network of support from like-minded religious zealots, like for instance, the Islamic muslim fundamentalists who want us all dead.
With shitty odds like that, you’d think they would have given up on the “right-wing violence” meme.
Just a reminder: Janet “Big Sis” Napolitano gave "trusted traveler" status to Saudi passengers.
Feel safer?
