Look no one reads this stuff so I'm just going to post something that looks all efforty and official and stuff.

Our Top Story Tonight Bla Bla Bla

Brother to a Prince and fellow to a beggar if he be found worthy

The Law, as quoted, lays down a fair conduct of life, and one not easy to follow. I have been fellow to a beggar again and again under circumstances which prevented either of us finding out whether the other was worthy. I have still to be brother to a Prince, though I once came near to kinship with what might have been a veritable King, and was promised the reversion of a Kingdom--army, law-courts, revenue, and policy all complete. But, to-day, I greatly fear that my King is dead, and if I want a crown I must go hunt it for myself.

The beginning of everything was in a railway-train upon the road to Mhow from Ajmir. There had been a Deficit in the Budget, which necessitated travelling, not Second-class, which is only half as dear as First-Class, but by Intermediate, which is very awful indeed. There are no cushions in the Intermediate class, and the population are either Intermediate, which is Eurasian, or native, which for a long night journey is nasty, or Loafer, which is amusing though intoxicated. Intermediates do not buy from refreshment-rooms. They carry their food in bundles and pots, and buy sweets from the native sweetmeat-sellers, and drink the roadside water. This is why in hot weather Intermediates are taken out of the carriages dead, and in all weathers are most properly looked down upon.

Five myths about Margaret Thatcher

2. Thatcher was prim, dowdy and moralistic.

Not at all. As a number of her colleagues told me, she has a ribald sense of humor and was quite unconcerned when her ministers got themselves into sordid adultery flaps. One of her civil servants, for example, remembered desperately trying to finesse a compromise between Thatcher and her chancellor, the Cabinet minister responsible for the economy, during a dispute over the budget.

His delicate diplomacy was upended when Thatcher came back to No. 10 Downing St. from the House of Commons, apparently quite drunk, and discovered her chancellor holding a secret strategy meeting. She strode in uninvited, kicked off her shoes, tucked her heels under herself and declared, "Well, gentlemen, let's just settle this now, shall we?" She "held court like a queen bee," the civil servant said - and thus was it settled in her favor.

Afterward, the others could be heard muttering among themselves, "Phwoar, wasn't she sexy tonight?" French president Francois Mitterand is said to have called her Brigitte Bardot with Caligula's eyes.

Soft Serve Ice Cream: One of Thatcher's Lesser Achievements

"As a chemist for food manufacturer J. Lyons and Co. in the 1940s, Thatcher was part of the British research term that made soft-serve ice possible, according to The Washington Post's Caitlin Dewey, citing a 1983 New Scientist article. Thatcher, and colleagues, invented a way add more air into the ice cream so that it was less dense and used less ingredients, which also made it more cost-effective. The new formula also made it possible to push ice cream through a machine as soft-serve in the signature swirl we're familiar with today."

And how she became known as the Iron Lady:

More Margaret Thatcher Quotes

"No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions; he had money as well."
"My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police."
"He would rather have the poor poorer, provided that the rich were less rich. That is the Liberal policy."

Melissa Harris-Perry Doubles Down on 'Collective Raising' of Children

Here's what she declared in a commercial for MSNBC:

"We have to break through," she urged, "our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families."

And after all the criticism and disagreement she declared:

"What I thought was an uncontroversial comment on my desire for Americans to see children as everyone's responsibility has created a bit of a tempest in the right's teapot." She reiterates the premise of the ad and goes on to list different figures that influenced her throughout her upbringing.

"One thing is for sure," Harris-Perry concludes, "I have no intention of apologizing for saying that our children, all of our children, are part of more than our households, they are part of our communities and deserve to have the care, attention, resources, respect and opportunities of those communities."

But the problem is that children aren't everybody's responsibility - only the parents are expected to provide for them and only the parents will go to jail if they're not. The state may step in as a fallback when parents fail but there's no question that children in a legal and moral sense do belong to their parents.

Death of an Industry

That grew too contemptuous of their consumers.

Michael Lewis reports in the New Republic on the '96 Dole presidential campaign: 'The crowd flips the finger at the busloads of journalists and chant rude things at them as they enter each arena. The journalists, for their part, wear buttons that say 'Yeah, I'm the Media. Screw You.'* The crowd hates the reporters, the reporters hate the crowd - an even matchup, except that the reporters wield power and the crowed (in effect) wields none.

'Mayor Against Illegal Guns' Arrested For Gun Threats

A member of the Michael Bloomberg-sponsored gun control organization "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" has been arrested and charged in connection with a handgun incident at his home.

James Schiliro, a.k.a. Jay Schiliro, the mayor of Marcus Hook, a small town in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, faces charges of official oppression, reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and furnishing a minor with alcohol. He surrendered to authorities on Thursday morning, and his attorney declared that "we intend to fight these charges."

Schiliro, 38, allegedly ordered a local police officer to bring a 20-year-old male friend to his home, where the mayor plied him with alcohol, and made sexual advances which the man refused. Schiliro allegedly brandished several handguns and fired one of them into the floor in an apparent attempt to intimidate the young man, who reportedly was in fear of his life.

The mayor was freed on $50,000 bail and told to stay away from the alleged victim and give up his stash of firearms.

Sadly Schiliro is a Republican.

Can You Patent a Steak?

Well Oklahoma State University says yes:

The school says its researchers, working with an outside expert, discovered a new steak. They call it the Vegas Strip Steak. It's hidden somewhere inside a part of a cow that's now commonly used for hamburger, Price told me.

The school is trying to patent the steak (and the method of cutting it out of the carcass of the cow) so it can license the process to big meat companies.

When I talked to Price last year, the details were a secret. Then, last week, all the details were revealed to the world when the . That's why Price sent me that link.

...But as we found out last year, for what they do, and for the role patents play in their work. In any case, it's now up to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to decide whether this steak is worthy of a patent.

The Flatulent Demon, The Priests, and the Lawyer

Walk into a news story and the big takeaway is 1) avoid fart ghosts and 2) don't do exorcisms for lawyers.

Madalin Ciculescu, an attorney in Romania, was plagued with foul-smelling demons in his house who constantly turned his electrical gadgets on and off. So he hired four local Orthodox priests to exorcise them. In his lawsuit, Ciculescu argues that they didn't finish the job

...But the lawyer for the Archdiocese from Arges, Anton Alin, rejected the allegation of fraud saying that the exorcism had been properly carried out and they believed the allegations of further demons and more bad smells were simply a product of the man's imagination.
The Romanian court agreed with the church and rejected the application against Bishop Argatu as well as priests Ionut Cret Ovidiu, Gheorghe Nicut, Marius Dumitrescu and Gheorghe Dunitru - and ordered Ciculescu to pay legal costs.

I don't have a problem with communities caring for children and feeling responsible for them, but I do have a problem with the State thinking that children belong to them and not the parent. If she had said that it's valuable for children to have numerous people in their lives who care about them nobody would have said anything. I have other people who sometimes look after my kids because I am at a meeting or something. I have a friend who tutors him in Spanish because she knows Spanish and I don't. This is NOT the same thing as saying kids belong don't belong to their parents and it is naive of her to assert that she didn't understand exactly what the problem with her comment was.

Harris Perry is a fucking moron (and not the good kind found here).

She confuses that fact that some people have job which pay them to work with other people's children (namely teachers, babysitters, etc.) as having responsibility for them thus making them community property.

Total and utter bullshit.

Similarly, the guy who reads my water meter is not responsible for how much water I use (or the bill for that matter.)

Melissa Harris -  Perry is a Leftist political animal, who pumps here propaganda tripe on MSNBC.\

She meant exactly what we all think she meant.

What she wanted us to hear:  We need to care more for the underpriviledged kids from poor homes, and spend more money on schools, because we all know that more money for schools is going to solve every problemd.

What she really meant:  We need more money for the teachers so they can pump more money into our political party. Kids?  Who gives a damn.  We need to turn them into lifetime Democrat-Leftists, and we are going to fill their heads with shit.

What will probably happen:  More stupid rules, more Federal interference in local schools,, more mispent money. What Democrats do best, destroy capital.  Of course they want to pay the teachers a lot more, and do lots of other stuff which will only  strengthen the hand of the various teacher's unions, and run money back into the Democrat Party coffers.  Kids are way back there in priorities.

Melissa Harris Perry is just another damned Leftist liar.

Meh, there are certain argument that I'm responsible to an extent for those I keep company with.  But it's a complicated nuanced argument dependent on the right to free association.

It also is partially predicated on a much smaller conception of "state" than we have now.

And virtue, it's dependent on a notion of virtue.

So broadly speaking you're right, and the drunk is..well..a drunk.  Leave him where he lies.

A week or so ago I was lamenting the decay of society while I was getting a haircut. The guy I use disagreed. I asked him if he thought society was advancing, he said "yes". 154 Retirement …To Each According To Their Needs President Obama’s budget for 2013 includes a limitation of how much people can put away in their IRA in order to save less than a billion dollars a year and to achieve greater “fairness.” Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) would be limited to funding not more than about $200 thousand a year. While this may seem like a lot, expenses at the end of a persons life can be huge. The Obama administration’s attitude is that many people can “accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving.” http://politicalhat.com/?p=1901

171 I read about "normalcy bias" the other night

It's a syndrome most of the public has, particularly the low information voter

They have a belief that no matter what, the government fixes problems because they always do, no matter what happens in other countries, it can't happen here. It also can't happen here or happen to them because it never has before.

As long as the tv works, most people think everything is fine and the government has everything running great

Until something happens that they were assured could never happen here, then the MSM runs constant cliches of "we lost our innocence that day, blah blah"

178 The human male possesses the Italian designer faucet of penises. They’re pretty big, the biggest of any primate’s relative to body size. And they’re showy, too, right out there, front and center on our upright bodies (i.e., they don’t retract), as if they were meant to be seen as part of the décor. Why?

A study released today in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) offers an explanation: Women are attracted to penises, and the bigger the better.

“Penis size does affect attractiveness,” lead author Brian Mautz, a University of Ottawa post-doctoral researcher said in an NBCNews.com interview.

I've been surprised at the things I hear through the grapevine as to who's read my posts and at least considered the information. It's a lot easier and carries less social risk (even e-risk) to comment on cat pics or dinner mentions than to engage in sobering discussion. Doesn't mean the info wasn't seen. Every little bit helps, imho, depending on how comfortable one is in throwing stuff out there attached to a real life name.

Millions of people's brains, souls and spirits are rotted out. They are, in a way, zombies, just wandering through life.  Nothing is going to fix them, and they will communicate their rotteness to their kids and others, infecting them with the same empty thoughtlessness.

276 If you remember, it was actually the one-off triumvirate of all time: Reagan, Thatcher, Pope John Paul II

"Two conservatives and a crypto-Maoist walk into a bar..." Classic joke!

Popes are philosophers. Half-assed ones, mostly, but--that's the job. They declare the meaning of all over which the Church claims authority. JPII did that. Pretty good pope, per se. Made his many declarations.

And one of them was an encyclical on "labor," a timely counterblast to the rise of Thatcher-/Reaganism in which JPII revealed himself (and his Church) to be a slavery-endorsing piece of evil lefty shit.

Link below!

(Warning: It's an incredibly boring and obfuscatory bunch of pseudo-intellectual blizz-blazz--but with a tasty Mao-y center! Start with the paragraph containing the phrase "possessed against labour" if you just want the straight-up third-world-commie-in-Aquinas's-clothing dirt.)

277 How do you have eugenics and "fellow feeling for humanity" I'm pretty sure those two things are fairly contradictory.

Yeah. You're right. Eugenics implies that humanity is currently not "eu" - not the way the eugenicist likes it. So the eugenist wants humanity to be made more palatable.

It starts with misanthropy or, at best, paranoia that the people could become a plague. I look around and I don't see much good in humanity.

The next step is, what do we do about all these future generations of assholes? That's where the state steps in. Or the people making the choice themselves. Something has to step in.

As mentioned I passed the first stage a long time ago. The second stage is where I'm at. Maybe in-vitro engineering to prevent People Of Flashmob before they get born. That would at least also prevent the deaths-by-abortion.

Today was a good day.  Three-year-old granddaughter came by with our daughter.  Rode the ATV and looked at puppie and kitty videos with the grand daughter. Then spent about half an hour talking with my daughter about the Founders, Declaration of Independence, difference between simple democracy and representative democracy, and the notion of the individual versus the commune.  She and her husband are hard-working, intuitively conservative and hungry to learn, but don't have a lot of formal schooling, so she was soaking it up eagerly.  So, like I said, it was a good day.

309 Some of Greenfield's eloquent words on Maggie Thatcher today:

The missing element is conviction. When conservatives remember Thatcher and Reagan, they hear the echoes of clear and principled messages. Neither of them were perfect as politicians, but their rhetoric was perfect because they knew what they believed, said it clearly and colorfully and enjoyed themselves doing it.

Modern conservative parties eschew that kind of plain talk. They flee from principle selecting candidates who speak as indirectly as possible and mean as little of what they say as they can get away with. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. But no cause is advanced in the course of these evolutions from communication to obfuscation.

Conservatism never wins. It loses. It comes to be associated with slick empty men and women who smile a lot and lie a lot. And that in the long run is far more devastating than the occasional senate candidate who says something horrible or idiotic. Candidates like Mitt Romney are more damaging than a hundred Todd Akins because they fix the image of a soulless party that cares about nothing and no one.

It is better to have the public think that the Republican Party stands for horrible and divisive things than to think that it stands for nothing. There are people who will vote for horrible things... but who will vote for nothing except in opposition to the something that the other party is selling?

Conservatives bemoan that Obama, who blatantly said that he would raise energy prices, redistribute wealth, diminish national power and ram through a radical agenda, could be elected twice. And the wrong lesson that GOP leaders have taken away from that is that the country turned to the left and that they have to turn with it. The real lesson is that voters will choose a radical agenda over no agenda at all.

319 I've worked with a post-abortive ministry. I think the pro-abortion people tell women who have abortions that, essentially, it is self-defense. Because having an unwanted baby will destroy a woman's life. In my experience, these women know on some level that it's not okay, but have been brainwashed (yes) for years and years that a baby at the wrong time will destroy their lives. They have culpubility 100%. They killed. But they should also be offered a chance to understand what they did and to ask for forgiveness. I have a harder time with abortion doctors. I leave those people to God.

Bacon Vodka

Ingredients

1 large sterile mason jar

5-6 strips of cooked bacon, drained and patted dry

1 bottle of premium vodka

How to make it

Add bacon to the mason jar and fill with Vodka. Let the bacon steep in the Vodka for a few days in the refrigerator. After the Vodka is infused with bacony goodness, remove the bacon, cover the jar with cheese cloth, secure it and strain the Vodka into another sterilized jar.

325 The thread on the abortion doc has collapsed like a dying star, but I wanted to post my thoughts on it here. I read the story earlier this afternoon and could almost feel the darkness and evil tugging at me. I wanted to get home and see my kids. how this man could commit such atrocities with such scant media coverage isÂ…well, words elude me. Maybe this nation doesn't deserve to keep going if we have 50% of the population think this is either okay or are willing to turn a blind eye to it. Someone talk me out of my malaise.

Is it God's plan for the world unraveling the way it does, or is it the collective effort of Man's free will making it happen? Or is it the two in concert? Or are there bit players such as demons and angels influencing humanity? Devil or no, it seems, isn't really needed in the equation, I think, because I'm quite sure man has made demons blush with some of the atrocities he has committed.

Supports affordable health care, more school spending, gun control, and is apparently a little on the homosexual side, having demanded gay sex from a teen male. Repeatedly refused to answer a public position poll by a voting group (designed to get politicians on record with their positions). Also appears to be crazier than a shithouse rat. So, several similarities to Bloomberg. Or Christie, for that matter. But, you know, we need more moderates.

Based on what I said, she and I are not talking politics anymore, when we had had many discussions over the years. (In fairness, I took a harder line in the spat than I needed to, but I'm fed up with this attitude. Have been for years. I wanted her to see the flippin' point I was making, and her response was to say "oh, we can't be respectful to each other, so let's just not debate anymore." I call bullshit on that, but whatevs.) If/when churches start getting bulldozed and browbeat into doing the states bidding on this....a whole lot of people's friendships/family relationships might get similarly blown up. 397 Two stories (most likely apocryphal) about the Iron Lady that I always liked. First, is that while on a visit to the SAS in Hereford, they put her in the live-fire Kill House and a squad of troopers stormed in with full ninja gear, throwing flash bangs and hosing down the targets next to her with MP5s (live ammo). She was thrilled, had a great time. The other story is that immediately after the Iranian Embassy hostage rescue in '80, Thatcher and her husband had beers with the SAS troops while they were still wearing their ninja gear and smelling of gunpowder and blood. Denis Thatcher actually scolded the SAS for leaving one of the terrorists alive. 'sup jackwagons

The Romney faction adopts stands a few ticks to the right of whatever the current Democrat line is. But when the Democrats skew further left, so do these "moderate" Republicans.

This means that they cannot help us, as they will never actually agree to advance conservative goals since they don't believe in them.

Posted by: Blanco Basura at April 09, 2013 11:43 PM

Gosnell not only makes the leftist sacrament of abortion look horrible, but I'm sure it makes all those lefty women journalists very uncomfortable. What goes on there is pure evil, and no one wants to think they're turning a blind eye to evil or behaving in a way that makes them a monster, so they convince themselves thoroughly that it's just tissue or a clump of cells, "not viable". Not one of those women would club an infant to death in his or her cradle, that would be monstrous

Yet I think the reason so many women who've had abortions are fucked up in the head is that deep down, the self justifications won't make those thoughts that they may themselves have committed an atrocity go away completely

Brother, I went to SHOT this year.  You could have tracked me from my 1911 drool.  I have 2 guns to buy to complete my operational collection.  I blew $800 on a Para Nighthawg that has an op malfunction due to a slipping takedown pin (put 2 rounds through it and it slips 1-2mm, enough to keep the slide from locking back after the mag is empty.  PITA).  And I even approached them at SHOT in Vegas about it and they were dicks.  Never buying another Para pistol again.  Stuff happens, but crappy customer service = no go.  Red light.

That was my 1911 allowance, so saving up for another.

Kick ass team, Emerson.

About that Marxist at MSDNC saying children belong to society; I remember not too long ago there  was  a cry for parents to be jailed for their childrens' crimes (I'm sure this idea came from the Left). But, if children belong to society, will they start wanting society jailed? LOL.

I love Ace's take on this  that if something is everyone's responsibility, it becomes no one's. And of course the whole government-wants-to-own-our-children thing that goes without saying (and something government has wanted for decades and has accomplished  with  the public schools; they teach children to hate their parents and encourage rebeillion, thus they are stealing children away everyday).

549 Re that Indian train pic:  LOLZ!!!

In 1974 I was traveling though India with two other guys.  Our train was expected to take only two hours, so we decided to ride in the mail car, which had no seats, only racks to store mail bags.

Halfway, the train shuddered to a stop.  We got out to take a look at the cause of the delay, and found that the main shaft driving one of the diesel locomotive's wheels had sheared off.

We weren't going anywhere, it was clear, until a new locomotive arrived to pull us out of our predicament.

Nonetheless, about a hundred Indians clambered up onto the engine and its tank car, hoping somehow to be taken away before the rest of us.

Didn't happen.  We all waited twelve hours before being rescued.

I have the pics.

578 Green was a standard VW color, so there's nothing wrong with green.

The rehab was strictly a cosmetic hack though.  The ratty original engine compartment tin shows it wasn't a really pro job

The worst thing about callsigns is you never get to pick yours.  And you'll hate it.  It'll never be "Cowboy" or "Reaper" or "Doom"  it'll be fkn "tangerine"

My vice CC was "Whale"... sure he was just thrilled about that one.

604 Read a bio on M Thatcher a few years back.  It was interesting.  Wish I could recall the title.  I loved it when she told Bush to grow a set over the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

On another interesting note to me:
Wind waves here 15 feet
2 P3 sub hunters (and killers - so stay the heck off my shore) left to find and pick off enemies off our shores tonight.  Go America.

Lacy Wigs, anyone? So, who do I have to know or blow to get an invite to the HQ FB page? I know I do not post frequently, but I am def. moron qualified.

And, does anyone know if the Equal Pay deal is the same thing as the LeadnButter Act? I thought the brilliant O regime fixed it already.

611 Late to the discussion, as usual, but I did want to mention a story from my own life... my niece, always troubled, became pregnant at nineteen. My sister pressured her to have an abortion "so as not to ruin her life." My niece was adamant that she wasn't going to kill her baby. Of course, this child is now 18 months of adorable walking, and she is the Apple of my sister's eye. While I am so happy for her, I can't help the little voice in the back of my head that says, "How can you forget that you wanted to murder this child you love so much?" And, also, my niece is a surprisingly good mother. She discovered something that she cares about more than herself.

614 If Chuck Norris and Margaret Thatcher had a child he would be awesome. He could take Obama's hoppy changy unicorn and make ice cream out of its farts, build a nuclear shield out its hide and conquer North Korea with its horn: Still have time to have the most awesome unicorn BBQ by lunch.
