May the Fourth Be With You. Yup, you guessed it. It is a Star Wars celebration day. But did you know that Margaret Thatcher was the first to use this term back in 1979?
Margaret Thatcher has won the election and become Britain's first woman prime minister. To celebrate their victory her party took a half page of advertising space in the London Evening News. This message, referring to the day of victory, was 'May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.WTF?

I miss the days where, you know, the President of the United States would actually say good things about America while overseas and not throw us under the bus. Mexico's greatest arms dealer blames U.S. citizens for gun violence.
Of the 8% of American “civilian” guns recovered at crime scenes, 302 murders of those murders were traced directly to guns smuggled to the Sinaloa cartel via Operation Fast and Furious, a weapons smuggling plot that transferred 2,500 guns to narco-terrorists that the Obama Administration wants to ban.

The Walking Dead Score
I think AMC screwed up big time by not releasing the original score from The Walking Dead. Bear McCreary is the composer and he also did Battlestar Galactica which was outstanding. Over at Bear's blog, he goes into some very nice detail on his scores and what he was thinking when he composed various songs. Here's his blog on The Walking Dead episode Days Gone By which had I think had one of the most powerful scenes in a TV show in quite some time.
This story arc reaches its climax in a powerful six-minute montage, where we intercut between Rick’s mercy killing of a zombie in the park and Morgan attempting to shoot his undead wife with a sniper rifle. The sequence is big, powerful and crescendos on its own. Having established the near-silent musical world of this series, I quickly realized that a traditional emotional cue would be too big for this sequence. Instead, I wrote a soft chorale, evocative of a distant cathedral pipe organ:As Frank said, the music needed to “hover over the action,” instead of commenting on anything specific in the scene. The result is a marvelously ethereal sequence. Though I had no doubts it was effective, I was still pleasantly surprised to see that people in the audience at the theatrical premiere last week were openly weeping during this montage.
Here's the clip in question: The Walking Dead-Bicycle Girl Scene

½ teaspoon mixed spices
Coarse black pepper
;">Sage and Bay leaves
2 cloves garlic - crushed

When cool remove all meat from the skull mixing it with the breadcrumbs and spices and finally pass it through a coarse mincing machine. Now add the beaten eggs and mix into a semi-solid paste which is to be rolled out into a square, and the chopped hard-boiled eggs placed in its centre. The sides are now rolled up and the whole placed in a floured pudding cloth and boiled for 3 hours. Alternatively, the pudding can be encased in water-pastry and steamed for the same length of time.

Now, I'm not writing this because I think this is any big deal, much the opposite. What I did was simple, handy around the house stuff. It took, oh, maybe 45 minutes. My father or grandfather wouldn't have thought twice about it, "Oh, mower's broken, got to fix it". That's just what one does, y'know? But I can't think of a single one of my friends who would have done what I did. Some of them would have bought a new mower. Others would have taken the mower down to the repair place and paid $69/hour to have them do a simple part replacement which, if they used the right part instead of adapting the wrong one, would have consisted of removing 3 bolts and two cotter pins, then replacing 3 bolts and 2 cotter pins. Easiest thing in the world, and yet...nobody I can think of would have done the job. We've lost something as a culture there, and the thought of that makes me sad.

The Ride supports the camp's Hospital Outreach program, which sends out camp staff to visit with and entertain kids with life-threatening illnesses at over 20 hospitals in the Northeast. My son Jonathan got hours of enjoyment from the program while he was hospital-bound in treatment for cancer.
While the ride takes place less than 6 months after my heart attack (hey - I'm a stubborn Sumbitch), it's the 10th anniverary ride, and it takes place almost 4 years to the day after my son's passing, so I'm not missing it. You can make a donation at http://tinyurl.com/cwyczc8

I dented in the trunk.....
seriously you could see my fist's impact points....
was over Xmas eve went to Myrtle Beach wife was in comm blackout because she was rocketed three times in a day and they took casualties...
charming gentlewomen at the front desk of the Day's Inn on ocean Dr at Surfside beach told me I was at North Beach where the beach bums and drunks hung...had boy in the car had just drove 20 hours....
snapped like a rubber band in the parking garage and did three nice combos on the trunk and broke my left hand....went to mother in law asked for a bucket of ice and some tape...
Wife's dad was in awe...
I had to drive to OH on the 26th so anyway my dad is in awe.... I am still moving the hand and when I went back to work in Louisiana we were working on getting the shop in order and building the steel building so i didn't have time to fuck with a cast so every day I'd tie and tape the hand two or three times...
I mostly did a good job and it healed relatively normal looking and held for the time since...
about a month ago I got pissed at Choom King on the TV and clenched my hands...
my pinky knuckle sheared and split....I didn't hit anything....
so know I need it rebroke, possibly shaved, and likely bolted.....
moral of the story always lead with your right....I broke it enough over the years I don't think it would have been dramatic.

Innovation used to be commonplace, but I agree very few people take the time to try to fix anything themselves. My father believed that you should be able to do almost anything for yourself and passed that philosophy on to me and I am forever grateful. The Yankee version was something like "Eat it up! Wear it out! Make it do!"
The level of design sophistication in many products does make it much harder to do many repairs that were possible for the shade tree mechanic in the "old" days.

hell it held for what 6 years or so I think...5 anyway
It is not in deep pain it is swollen but maintains work mobility...Doc is afraid of arthritis but hell it's doomed...so is my right hand....
See I put my right hand through a StreetFighter II video game back in what was it 1993 or so....I was pretty drunk and Blanka reminded me of my boss and I just could not beat him that night so around the 11th defeat I winked at the game and went *pow*....
that was a nice 2100 dollar moment of glory....
the vendor comes in the next day and just looks at it and says "that is supposed to be able to take a brick.....
and I said "yeah well I guess the kid really swung it" and just reached for the wallet.
My right hand still had plastic in it and I had superglued the wounds shut....
that was another "duh"
I'm a lot calmer now but one day my body is just gonna derez like Tron

I found out that some of this had been passed to one of my kids. Washing machine was not working right, Mrs H wanted a bigger one, so I told my middle son it was going out the door. He shows up in his truck, carts it off for me, and I later find out that he bought a replacement valve from an appliance repair shop, fixed it up, and got another 5 years of life out of it.

Posted by: BCochran1981 - Credible Hulk at May 04, 2013 10:44 PM (GEICT)
It's easier to pull, but you don't get enough resistance to tear. Picture it this way -- your torso is above the TP roll, and you give it a tug with a bit of sideways to initiate the rip. If it comes off the roll on top, it pulls half-off the roll before any sideways resistance kicks in....if it comes off the roll on bottom (against the wall), it'll be ripped halfway-through before the tug finishes it off.

The US president engaged in hostility with a contained tyrant by acting as air cover for the Muslim Brotherhood and had no plan for after the Tyrant fell except ask for the weapons back and pretend enough normalcy was there to leave a functionally unguarded Ambassador waiting for the same operatives that the Air Campaign was waged for to attack the United States' Ambassador and compounds after engaging in illegal arms trades.

Sort of true. The F-16 can pull more than nine Gs, but only for a few moments. They have a G-limiter built in that will not allow them to pull more than nine sustained Gs. I have been told the Israelis have changed the program but that is just a rumor.
Side note: The Block 40s that Osan flies, many were at Homestead AFB where I worked on them. After Hurricane Andrew, our squadron was reassigned to Shaw AFB and the other two were assigned to Moody AFB. Shortly after that, we transitioned to Block 50s and some of our 40s went to Osan AB. At the time, Osan and Misawa AB, Japan were flying Pratt and Whitney engines and we at Kunsan AB, ROK were flying GE engines. The Air Force finally did something smart and all of PACAF are now flying GEs.

Beautiful outside
Had nice Pho lunch with my man
Had some iced coffee and sat outside chinning
none of the cats have thrown up yet to-day
having home made pizza for supper
have a nice supply of good gin
Cons:
thought a daily currant story about Bloomberg being denied food was real (heard rumours there was an underground movement to do this) and posted it
Douche friends on FB claiming they were GOP but grew a conscience and became Dems posting jackass shit that I end up feeling obligated to respond to
posted a comment on a fan page and pissed off some people (and they are my potential reading public - whoops)
Haven't written much to-day (see distractions above)

Conclusion - Thank God for AoSHQ where losers like me are always welcome.

Been told by rollers I'm not bad. I play for position rather than the stack. Usualy finish top 3 out of 10 to 12. The problem is, I just want to play more and get better. Real world tables are great. But, I cant play enough of those in person. Online is great for playing a billion hands. But, it's full of monkeys who go all in, etc with shit. But, the most frustrating thing is the fucking clock. I play cautious and need to double check everything in my head before I fold or call. That timer is just too fast for me to keep track of what everyone's doing and what possible combinations I might be facing, etc. Could do much, much better if I wasn't forced to make a decision without thinking it all through. It's like poker for the attention deficit croud. Is there a place online where you can play serious poker without such time pressure? They all seem to give you only 30 secondfs or something. Thanks!

Speaking of getting back, I just got back.
But speaking of Smith's mom, wow, all respect to the lady who reared an incredible son, and all condolences to her on losing that son, but who in this late stage of the Obama years would ever believe the "we'll get back to you" line?
There have been *so* many repetitions of that and they've all been transparently false.
My favorite was the woman whose husband was a laid-off engineer not finding new work. Hundreds of applications to no avail. The Won said confidently that in the booming new green-jobs economy he had created, it would be unthinkable for a skilled engineer to go without lucrative offers. Obama told this woman he would make sure her husband got a great job building the sustainable American future, and he said that the woman should send in her husband's resume. She did, of course. And of course that was the end of it and she never heard back. Not a word.
You would think people would quit falling for this particular well debunked scam of Obama's. Then again, they keep falling for street corner three-card-monte scams, too. I guess the supply of marks and rubes really is the only perpetually renewable resource.

Hmmm....I play almost exclusively on Partypoker, and have an account on PokerStars that I use occasionally, and both of those are pretty much the same time-wise (which is about what your describing for the non-speed or non-turbo games). I assume others sites are fairly similar, but I really don't know.
Probably not the 'easy solution' advice, but all I can really recommend is more playing time. Like anything else, the more you play the more comfortable and automatic those decisions will become.
Maybe try doing multiple tables simultaneously on the free games (or really cheap ones, whatever you're comfortable with)? That will give you lots of experience while forcing you to make lots of decisions quickly. All that beeping and moving from table to table will probably help with dealing with the time pressure.

Yeah, that's exactly how I play. I don't put dollar one in, unless I have to. Check, check, check. I usually wait until all the cards are on the board to make a move. Then it's usually check or limp. I wait until I got the shit nailed then wait for them to make a bonehead move. It means folding lots of good hands and watching quads et pass you by, but, it gets you into a top place finish.

Anybody here hear about Ultimate Poker? (*Not* the same site as Ultimate Bet.) It started up a week ago, and is supposedly the USA's first 100% legal online poker site. Operated by Station Casinos, which has a few actual real-world ("brick-and-mortar") casinos in Vegas and I think elsewhere in Nevada.
The software's already available, and you can actually deposit either in person at one of Station Casino's locations in Nevada or via ACH. You can withdraw the same ways.
Downsides however: they're still working out all the legal logistics, so only residents of Nevada can play. They actually have a setup where they require your mobile phone, then use the towers to triangulate your position. If you're outside of the state of Nevada, you're electronically barred from sitting at a table. Also, even if you're in Nevada, Verizon Wireless customers are barred due to the fact that Verizon won't allow Ultimate Poker to triangulate their customers.
Why more folks can't see what a bonanza (both for USA business and taxes) online poker could/would be, I'll never understand.

The trick with online poker is self control. We're talking Texas No limit holdem btw. Get in cheap for the flop, fold most, except AK, and suited connectors. actually there's not really a way to teach it, you have to be higher intelligence, emotionless, and competitive in nature.
And Bingo was his name-o! I loosen up a bit for live games, but I find tight-aggressive works best for online NLTHem in the long-term.
I would add to that advice, don't play AA or KK type hands candy-ass pre-flop. It lets in too many people and brings your winning % way down.
You'd rather win a small pot than lose a big one.

I like playing with yanks. Most of the english speaking world are good too. Yanks, brits, kiwis, canadians know what they're doing and don't usually play like monkeys. Some decent asian playes too. It's the russian east euro players I can't handle. They play like retards and the game finishes in 5 minutes.
Yeah, I mostly agree with that. Although I try to use that to my advantage. Russians, some Eastern and sunshine Euros, Brazilians, etc. tend to play very aggressively and sometimes quite emotionally. I write down notes on them and hope to see them over and over, and take advantage with less than optimal hands (ie. they'll push preflop with garbage and I'll call with hands I normally wouldn't).
You get screwed every so often but long-term percentage wise you're golden.

Some years ago my response to some knee-jerk left-wing fucktardery about 'fat Americans' was to say "I'd rather my country have an obesity problem versus a famine problem."
I'm not sure I think that anymore. Set aside the suffering of innocent people, and I tend to think the West could use a good famine. Might re-orient some priorities.

Agreed. South Americans are weird. Some decent players. Argentinians seem sharper than Brazilians for some reason. Maybe that's just due to limited sample. Dunno. The west euros are a mixed bunch. Tend to be sharp, but some wild players too. Best to be cautious, generally, with them.

Yeah, LC, I know what you mean. I stopped commenting at the rag about 18 months ago because their stupidity hurt too much.
No doubt. I actually don't really comment there much at all....or anywhere else for that matter anymore. My local rag every so often....AoS the most.
But I do occasionally get some perverse enjoyment out of being called racist for reciting facts. It's the little things you know.

There are places in America where I'm sure you could eat like a king, in perfect health, on what your "betters" have snootily deemed unsuitable to have on their tables, and thrown in the garbage.
Would I do that in New York City? Not on your life. Because I've seen how big and bad NYC rats can get. A twenty-two, if you could carry one there, which you can't, will not even slow one of those things down. A retired Manhattan cop told me he hit one local rat with the then-issue .38 Special, center of mass, several times, before it stopped making trouble.
On the other hand, I would pay to see Ben Affleck, making a sappy public relations piece about "hunger in America", get bit right in the face by a hungry rat larger than a rat terrier. I would pay a lot, in fact.

The major cover on the patio is a 9' market umbrella that sticks up through a hole in a six-person teak table. Because I'm tired of its BS, its ribs are bungied to a 3' section of train rail I keep on the table as a centerpiece. This makes it relatively immune to springtime zephyrs, but when it does lose stability the umbrella, the table, and things nearby can be at risk.

Before most grocery stores put in those closed compactors, I did some grocery diving during a few lean years.
They'd chuck out whole cases of lettuce that had one small brown spot on a head, tons of fruit with one small soft spot, etc. All trivially trimmed off.
Never dabbled in tossed meats though, that seemed kinda risky.
One day I nabbed many sealed cases of cooking oil the dates had expired on. Yea, like wesson oil goes bad. I'm still using that shit up 20 years later.

The trick with online poker is self control. We're talking Texas No limit holdem btw. Get in cheap for the flop, fold most, except AK, and suited connectors. actually there's not really a way to teach it, you have to be higher intelligence, emotionless, and competitive in nature.
And playing for funsies does not teach you how to play poker. You have to have some skin in the game to learn.

I'm being really deliberate about it because I was up at 5 am getting the BH to the airport and I'm at 40% cognition levels. Also, we're candy-assed clueless Californians that imagine everything is going to be just peachy until it shows unmistakeable signs of being not-so-pleasant, so we tend to leave stuff sprawled out -- e.g. I had some seeds that had blown off the table and I figured I'd collect 'em off the floor when I was ready to plant 'em [doesn't work with 10% rain].
