What the Modern Spy is Carrying

On Tuesday the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested  Ryan Fogle, a third secretary at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow and accused him of being a CIA agent and attempting to recruit a Russian as an agent.

The FSB also released a list of the equipment he was carrying:  wigs, sunglasses, lots of cash, a map, compass, a recruitment letter, cellphone, flashlight, pocket knife, key holder, pepper spray, batteries, notebook,  and a cigarette lighter.

It's decidedly lo-tech but then there's no school like the old school. Hell I carry about half of this on a daily basis - and more when I'm out looking to have a pretty good weekend in Vegas.

Quote of the Day

"Unfortunately you've grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that's at the root of all of our problems. Some of these same voices do their best to gum up the works. They'll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self rule is somehow just a sham with which we can't be trusted."

-- Barack Obama (May 6, 2013)

Why Liberals Hate Christianity But Ignore Islam

It's the Original Enemy and there's no hate like your first one.

Because they are locked forever in an ideological time warp, says Wiker, liberals (or Progressives or Leftists or whatever else they call themselves to avoid the taint their ideas leave behind) cannot contemplate the possibility that there is another enemy, greater than their old foe Christianity.  Which brings me to a post I did today for Mr. Conservative.  It concerns Michael 'Mikey' Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and one of the most rabid anti-Christians you will ever meet.

When I wrote the post this morning, it made me uncomfortable that such a venomous man is somehow Jewish, whether genetically or in actual practice.  I hate to see that kind of hatred emanate from a group with which I'm affiliated.  However, having read Wiker's essay, I realize that my concern is unfounded.  Weinstein's hostility to Christians isn't because he's Jewish, it's because he's a Leftist.

Plus a lot of Leftism basically comes down to opposing whatever middle America likes.

Get ready For the New Campus Speech Codes

Courtesy of the DoJ and the DoEd.

In a letter sent yesterday to the University of Montana that explicitly states that it is intended as "a blueprint for colleges and universities throughout the country," the Departments of Justice and Education have mandated a breathtakingly broad definition of sexual harassment that makes virtually every student in the United States a harasser while ignoring the First Amendment. The mandate applies to every college receiving federal funding-virtually every American institution of higher education nationwide, public or private.

The letter states that "sexual harassment should be more broadly defined as 'any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature'" including "verbal conduct" (that is, speech). It then explicitly states that allegedly harassing expression need not even be offensive to an "objectively reasonable person of the same gender in the same situation"-if the listener takes offense to sexually related speech for any reason, no matter how irrationally or unreasonably, the speaker may be punished.

So hitting on a girl at a campus party will now involve the risk of rejection and prosecution.

A Movie With a Parasitic Worm as the Protagonist?

Well apparently that describes the recent film, "Upstream Color".

In "Upstream Color," the hero is a parasitic worm. (The role seems to have been played by a mealworm, the pale, segmented larva of a common beetle.) We first see it being shaken out of the root bundle of an orchid by someone identified in the credits as "the Thief," who has detected the worm's presence by a telltale blue scale on the orchid's leaves. Teens help the Thief find such orchids; the teens' reward is Diet Coke that a larva has percolated in, a shared swig of which seems to impart the power to synchronize their movements even with closed eyes. In the hands of the Thief, the neurotoxin is put to a more practical use. Outside a nightclub, he assaults a woman named Kris (played by an exquisite Amy Seimetz) and, using a plastic medical device, forces a worm down her throat in order to brainwash her. Once she's under the worm's spell, he tells her that she's unable to look at him because his head is made of the same substance as the sun and commands her to turn the equity in her house into cash, which she surrenders along with a strongbox of precious coins. To stall her while he works, and then while he makes his getaway, the Thief also imposes elaborate and apparently nonsensical tasks, including the transcription and memorization of Thoreau's "Walden."

And that's just the beginning.

The Flimflam History of Tarot Cards

Most of what you know about the Tarot isn't true.

But tarot cards were still meant to tell fortunes, right?

Nope. The 78-card deck was actually used for playing trick-taking games, along the general lines of Spades or Bridge. A popular variant, French Tarot, is still played widely, especially in (as one might expect) France.

How To Get Power From a Phone Line

Land lines aren't totally useless. For long time I kept a land line with classic old analog phone that works off of the line power just for emergencies. But the price for even minimal phone service just kept going up so I finally dropped it.

And speaking of phones here's an 1885 audio recording of Alexander Graham Bell speaking that was recovered by optically scanning the fragile disc.

Isn't it interesting that while technology in general has been falling steadily down the Moore's Law price curve, classic phone service has been getting ever MORE costly? Well, consider that the price you pay is not just the cost of the service itself.

Read the fine print of your bills. A metric fuckton of taxes go into that bottom line.

Leftism is ANTI-WESTERN CIVILIZATION. It revels in the freedoms it guarantees, then insists that it is no better than any other-- indeed, worse, because serious you guys. So they seek out every foundation of it they can find and concentrate on dissolving them completely.

There's actually a name  for it: Critical Theory. Developed by Leftards in a   kollidge (there was a video here recently explaining its roots)  whereby everything   about America is attacked 24/7. That's it. No  recognition of anything good or wholesome or anything like that in our society.

Which   is  what kids are being taught in skools today.

I once took care of a 5-year-old with pneumonia. After he had completed his course of antibiotics I pulled out his IV and slapped a Band-Aid on the insertion site and stepped out of the room for a couple minutes. His dad, a mid-range NCO (E-6 maybe) was in the room with him. When I came back into the room, the Band-Aid was hanging by a thread, hadn't stuck properly. I said, "Hmm, I guess that didn't work very well, did it?"

The little boy said scornfully, "Yeah, cheap-ass Army Band-Aid!"

Posted by: AltonJackson at May 16, 2013 10:17 PM (JMmQ9) It won't even be that obvious. The flunky you deal with face-to-face or over the phone won't even be the problem. There are near infinite number of bureaucratic ways to delay treatment...and treatment delayed is treatment denied. For instance: "Mr X, we've received your request for your son's CAT scan and I assure you it is in process" "Mr X, regarding your request for your son's CAT scan, the Review Board is requesting a few follow up items before we proceed. So if you could schedule a follow-up with the doctor and resubmit the paperwork I'm sure we can get this approved....Yes just go to the nearest NHS facility, turn right at the 12 ft. Obama statue and give them your name and the will get you scheduled...." "Yes Mr X, we have received your updated form. It has been approved at the initial level and has been forwarded to the Regional Commission for Compassion and Caring for Final Approval. Once we get that, we will be able to move forward with scheduling your son's CAT scan......" and so forth

If you know anything about unions it's that you never ever do any work outside your job description. The union believes that doing so allows you to be taken advantage of by management AND it takes a job away from someone else.

It is not in the Marines' job description to hold an umbrella for another grown man. Hire some Obama rump swab to do that shit; they'd probably be honored to do so.

259 Not even the President of the United States can request a Marine to
carry an umbrella without the express consent of the Commandant of the

So Commandant of the Marine Corps > President of the United States? Got it.

264 65 Weinstein's hostility to Christians isn't because he's Jewish, it's because he's a Leftist. Let's face it, a lot of Jews are leftists, for whatever reason that I've never understood. Posted by: Jay Guevara at May 16, 2013 10:06 PM (IDSI7) Yeah, what the fuck is up with that? We had an emergency parents meeting earlier this week to discuss the options for my son's cub scout pack if the national scouts vote to admit queers later this month. The Baptist church where we meet, which has supported a cub pack and a scout troop for 35 years, told us that they would pull their support at the end of the summer if that happens. That was just context. The tie-in with Jay's comment above is that the scout's Jewish contingent has already said that not only will their organizations will stop supporting packs and troops, but if the queers-in-tents thing fails, they will pull out - so to speak - of scouting altogether. Is "An eye for an eye, a bugger for a bugger" somewhere in a part of the Torah that didn't make it into the Old Testament? Didn't the God of the Jews destroy a town called Sodom for, well, sodomy? Individual American Jews may be intelligent, but they sure seem stupid as a people.

My arm hurts thinking about how they had to hold those umbrellas out. Here's my theory: It was a brief rain shower. Surely someone in the White House looked at the radar and saw it was coming. IMHO, they held the press conference long enough so that the rain started right near the start of the press conference in order that the rained-upon press wouldn't ask so many questions.

293 What's more, Obama is supposed to be Mr Pro Union.

If you know anything about unions it's that you never ever do any work outside your job description. The union believes that doing so allows you to be taken advantage of by management AND it takes a job away from someone else.

Sooth - One day a veteran walked into my building wanting service to take care of a financial matter.  He walked up to the desk of the secretary who is a big union goon/ Obama supporter and asked her if she would find someone to help him.  She told him "Sorry, but It is my break time now.  Please have a seat and I will find someone for you when I get back."

Unfortunately for her I was walking by at the time and heard the whole thing.  I went and found someone to help him and my next stop was her boss's office.  She got hammered by him - retired Army Captain.

I told my two co-workers about this bitch and whenever she comes to us now for help we tell her "Sorry, we're on our break."  She's stopped coming by.

You'd have to be crazy to rob a gun shop, yes?

HOOKSETT, N.H. – Police in New Hampshire are asking the public's assistance identifying three suspects who stole a gun from Riley's Sport Shop in Hooksett Thursday morning.

Police in Hooksett said two black males and one black female entered the shop on Hooksett Road at about 9:23 a.m.

An employee saw the male suspect with a gun and took it back, but as the employee walked away, the female suspect reached around one of the cabinets and removed a knife and a gun, police said.

The female suspect is then seen walking to the back of the store where she allegedly cuts the security tag off the gun and leaves the store.

The gun that was stolen was 357 Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun.

They were wearing hoodies. Because everyone 'shops' these days with hoodies on.

Actually when the Marines volunteer for White House special service part of their job does entail butler-type duties:

"There are usually four Marines detailed to the White House at any given time. They volunteer for what is considered the exclusive duty. Their main duty is to act as (mostly ceremonial) guards outside the West Wing lobby, where they open and close the door for White House officials."

It did put them in conflict. That's why a smart CinC wouldn't have done it. However, the rule is you follow the last order given and let the giver of that order deal with any conflicts. The Marines in question did exactly that, as they should have. That does not mean there was not a conflict, but I will agree that it was a minor issue. 426 Cowboy: Dealing with the IRS must be done legislatively, by voting (November 2014), and judicially, in Federal court. I don't hold out much hope for correcting the IRS in November 2014, but I think that many R candidates should use the current events against the Ds ... the question is, will they? Judicially ... well, you have to show injury. The IRS claims all sorts of privileges, jurisdiction, stuff, but running to Federal court is not something they can prevent ... If the interviews with the IRS agent(s) are videotaped ... then put on YouTube, with instructions to 20 friends (maybe "commenters") to download and distribute ... then using them to force a Federal judge to order appearances, hold fools in contempt, send in Federal agents to make arrests and seize files, and other things suddenly becomes possible. This isn't easy, and I prefer to not experience it ... but it is what the IRS fears, as, ultimately, they must obey.

491 431 Maybe this has been said already, but how fucking stupid is Obama or his vast array of midget-minded minions, ... THIS is incompetence. All the rest of the shit we're witnessing is intentional malfeasance. Narcissism might play a big part, but I think it's a combination of a sense of destiny (2nd term), a sense of invulnerability (due to Reid & Holder), and the belief that they are the smartest people in the room (mostly bullshit degrees, and incestuous promotions ... and a lot of marginal- and in-competence) and therefore know what's best for everyone else. They're obviously wrong; unemployment and government assistance are the highest since WW2, and due to their decisions ... and the unfolding scandals are high-visibility proof. I think the main problems are the manager levels; most of the workers are probably still loyal Americans, who will spill their guts to the IG, or anyone who can report and get action, while protecting the source. Keeping these scandals going, perhaps in a tag-team sequence, should put real fear in any remaining Democrats (i.e., not the Progressive Democrats) and make 2014 the Year of Redemption. New ones are welcome, but these scandals have to keep going, and periodically reappear. A lot of LIVs understand the IRS ... IRS abuse plays well among them.

Because it let's him off the hook....he's acting all outraged, as though he didn't have anything to do with this abuse of power.

Barky is acting like a spree killer, who is blaming his rifle for shooting people.

"Bad gun. Bad, bad. Shame on you, you bad bad gun."

519 DC Comics goes full retard. In the comics series tie-in to a video game, 'Injustice - Gods Among Us,' where Superman stops respecting governments after the Joker nukes Metropolis and causes a hallucinating Superman to murder the pregnant Lois Lane. The POTUS seeks to recruit Batman and like-minded superheroes to take on Superman and his followers.

In the meeting Catwoman, a career criminal, tells the POTUS (who isn't Obama and actually looks somewhat like a young Reagan) "We'll fight against this regime but you need to do a better job."

"How?" asks the POTUS.

"Health. Education. Gun Control. Poverty. The Environment. Not telling people who they can and can't love. The reson so many support Superman's actions is because they're disenfranchised and disheartened and they want the world to be a better place. This country needs to have compassion again. You need to do better."

Go figure. A career criminal in favor of gun control and free stuff that somehow is always somebody else's problem to pay for. While standing next to a man who is a multi-billionaire and hoards technology for his personal use. And somehow this stuff is why the Joker thought it was hilarious to murder a million people and use drugs to induce a man to murder his own pregnant wife. Yep, the Joker is all about building support for the Great Society.

561 'Taxpayer Revolt. Why pay the IRS one thin dime if this is how they treat us? If one of us revolts, he's crushed. What's the feeling for a general, moronic revolt, tho? Possible?"

Here is the enforcement model for the IRS (and yes, it works).

The IRS knows that it can't enforce the law uniformly against all offenders. No one could. So, they find a few cheats, a few offenders. Then, they prosecute the very living hell out of those few offenders. They come down on them like a ton of bricks. LIKE A TON OF BRICKS!

And they make sure that the cases become high profile and get a lot of press time.

And, voila, the rest of us fall in to line.

We should try that enforcement model for illegal immigrants, IMHO.

No matter how much history says otherwise, a Marxist true believer will always believe it just hasn't been done right yet. It wasn't the theory that was flawed but the execution.

Well, one thing you can count on whenever Marxist take over a place is lots and lots of execution.

I always get a giggle from the computer displays that are so recognizable to an Atari 8-bit user. Some of the screens are lifted directly from a demo produced by a German user group. The same demo was used for displays in 'Enemy Mine.'

The guy who did most of the coding for the Genesis Sequence animation, Loren Carpenter, also wrote a great book on understanding computer graphics, with all of the included demos written to run on the Atari. He then created a game using much of the same fractal landscape generation code from the movie. It was at first known as 'Behind Jaggi Lines' and it was vaguely set in the Star Wars universe. It was finally released as 'Rescue on Fractalus.' The first Lucas game, along with Ballbla2er, which also did astounding things with the aging Atari.

Original Trek, most of the characters had some level of maturity and experience, like adults with responsibility were expected to have back in the old days. (Yeah, I know, right? Crazy.) I know, younger, alternate universe versions, but still...these versions lack that feel. It all feels wrong as a result. Fifty years, and that's what 'adulthood' is reduced to. Too many American Jews still see Cossacks chasing them in the snow. As a result, they're politically ignorant. As some doomed Holocaust survivor said after it was impossible to leave Germany in the late '30's "We do not recognize enemies."

Well, the Israelis do. But the Americans - with apologies to the sensible Jewish comenters here - with them, it's (Cue 'Fiddler on the Roof Themesong') "Tradition! TRADITION! The Christians want to kil us and we don't care what you say!'

Cumberbatch portrays the best Sherlock Holmes ever, even beating out Nigel Rathbone.

I like Robert Downey, Jr., but not as Sherlock Holmes. Whoever he plays in those multi-zillion dollar Sherlock Holmes movies isn't Sherlock Holmes.

Posted by: troyriser at May 16, 2013 08:52 PM (ptcFO)

594 Although the new Trek movie looks like a fun action movie to watch, the Abams movies don't "feel" like Star Trek

ST 11 had a bit of similarity to ST 1 in that it relied heavily on special effects and the story itself dragged

Abrams should have built more on the human relationship aspect of WOK with a great and time honored storyline

The main problem with Pine as Kirk? At his essence, Kirk was for all intents and purposes Shatner in a mustard velour shirt. Pine just doesn't have that ego and presence of The Shat. It's kind of like casting Leonardo DiCaprio as Dirty Harry

True, we were told Kirk was the youngest man ever to achieve his rank but Shatner didn't look like it happened just a few weeks ago. And it was implied that much of it came from being one of the few survivors of a big important battle that TPTB felt needed to promoted by promoting Kirk. (The time he spent recovering from his injuries was later retconned as the period when he met and became involved with Carol Marcus, and that Gary Mitchell was much longer in recovery and didn't advance as fast as a result.)

The reboot characters look way too young to be running the ship. Especially that ship as opposed to something much smaller. On TNG they gave it a bit of thought and did a better job of filling in the previous posts of the career officers.

The reboot Kirk has such a different childhood than the original that it seems a bit presumptuous for old Spock to tell young Spock that this guy is going to be his bestest buddy. No father, no siblings. (The original Kirk had at least one brother who was killed on the planet of the flying booger parasites, and a nephew who survived. Although in the awful fifth movie Kirk makes a comment that suggests he has completely forgotten his brother ever existed or just holds him in low regard. "I lost a brother once but I got him back," he says, referring to Spock. Uh Jim, you lost an actual brother and you didn't get him back. Spoken to your nephew recently?)

I know what you mean, Mæt...I have kept a land line, just for emergencies.

But the price had kept going up.

So I called to cancel it...and ATandT offered to cut the price in half!

I said "Uh, I dunno..."

And they cut the price some more.

So we still have a land line.

617 Sorry, from last thread... You know the FAKE ONT!!! Okay 'Nettes... After Jury Duty last week, I got pretty drunk, went into the shower, and got just fuckin' TIRED of the ridiculous mess that my long hair had become. I'm unemployed, so obviously I can't afford the quarterly, super short, awesomely colored, pixy style I used to sport, to much acclaim. The one guy who averred that he thought long hair sexy (about 7 yrs. ago) I haven't talked to in 6 months. So, what am I doing with this MASS of HAIR that, I can't braid, will never be part of a neat ponytail, (unless someone else with a variety of combs and hair fixants is there to pull my scalp back for an AT MOST 6 hour deal)?! ANYWAY... I shampooed, put it back in a mid- ponytail, stepped out of the shower, dried off, and cut it off with a pair of office shears. Just fuckin' ALL of it! ANYWAY... I think that this "new haircut" works for me. It's much more attractive than the aged hippy look I have been sporting. Forward swinging, just between my jaw and cheekbones to highlight my anime green eyes. Turns out that after I got some of my "kitchen" under control I DON'T want to go to the salon to "fix" it. I've looked at the back of my head and the line IS a bit chunky but, in my experience, NO-ONE ever compliments you on the BACK of your haircut after 1 week. So. I think I might stick with it! As is. For all Morons out there, I am advocating ANARCHY! Plastic Guns, pshhhaw!

649 Let us remember an oft-quoted (and commented) maxim: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity” — “Heinlein’s razor.” Teh JEF simply does not have the intelligence to contrive IRS-gate, as we know it so far ... but his handlers and controllers do. This means he can go before the cameras and reporters, say the things he says, and appear to be truthful ... because he likely has no direct or even indirect knowledge otherwise. What about "others"? Dingy Hairy Reid made a claim about Romney's taxes ... any chance, given the recent IRS revelations (and AP phone record grab!) that Hairy actually had records direct from one of the IRS operatives? Enquiring Minds Want To Know. I've read (elsewhere) the claim that IRS-gate is a diversion, of sorts ... I think it's a power-grab, just one more that "they" thought "they" could get away with. This time "they" failed. Keeping this, Benghazi, F&F and the general collapse of Teh Jef's Mid-East policy in the public spotlight should make a lot of non-Progressive Democrats real nervous ... ... the 2014 Campaign season starts in 6 months, and several of these scandals look like they will generate jail time ... one of them even has a body count.

I don't think the JEF orders anyone to do anything, except hold an umbrella. He's got that "we are the ones we've been waiting for" line which let every closeted totalitarian take their ids out for walkies and has smiled upon their worst excesses and used the power of the government to shield them from consequence. It's not that I don't think he's evil enough, I just don't think he's creative, intelligent, or industrious enough to compose all the mischief that's gone on.

Take Pelosi, for instance [PLEASE!!!!] -- does anyone actually believe that Obama gave her marching orders? She's twice as intelligent and ten times as hardworking as he is. All he told her is "let your freak flag fly, and I've got your back." I don't think he gave direct orders to the politicized scrunt who slow-walked all the tea partiers....but his minions were the ones who rewarded her by putting her in charge of Obamacare at the IRS and publicly sacking her replacement over things she did.

The real counter to all this nonsense isn't impeachment; it isn't criminal charges; it isn't legislation.... It's sunlight, the best disinfectant. We need a President that will open the floodgates of true transparency into Washington.

Just think, could the DoJ's Voting Rights Section survive if every sneering email for the last 20 years were made public? If every racist file were thrown open? If every political payback were made explicit? How about the Department of Education? Agriculture? The EPA? The IRS? ICE? DHS?

In 30 seconds, enough solid data about the totalitarian "progressive" assholes and their evil plans could be churned into the cloud that their failed ideology would be seriously crippled for decades. No more of the RINOs covering for the Dems so that the RINOs get a turn at the controls....

I greatly doubt Obama sat down with any IRS people to lay out a strategy of harassment against conservatives. Obama has a standing army of flunkies for such communication. That isn't the type of stupid they embody.

Remember, the only thing separating Nixon from JFK when it comes to such behavior and why we think of something other than a hotel when we hear Watergate, is one single disgruntled employee who got passed up for a promotion. If not for that FBI agent American history might be very different. It might actually be worse, considering how easily Nixon took to wretchedly bad economic concepts but it would definitely be different.

663 Once you have public employee unions it's just a matter of profiling. Promote the right people and they'll do what you want via groupthink without needing any pesky communication that might be recorded.

Much as Scientologists ask people they are unsure of, "Are you clear?" I wouldn't be surprised if the progressives have a nomenclature for subtly asking about a person and how they'll likely act, given the chance. Obama used to give classes in Alinsky technique and he was but one of many. I've no doubt there is a phrase once can speak to declare allegiance without making it blatantly obvious to an uninformed listener.

I've met several people who, when asked what they do, will declare themselves a progressive activist first and give the occupation that pays their bills second. At the low level, these are the bookstore employees who purposely make books by conservatives hard to find or hide them entirely.

I think that IRS-gate is a truly unforeseen pile of fresh, steaming dog-logs that Teh JEF and his handlers will track all over the public arena. If there's one thing LIVs know, it's that the IRS is bad ... and anyone who uses the RS to push people around is even worse. The burning of the temp commissioner and promotion of someone who likely ran the persecutions will play badly ... firing her is no longer enough. I think that if the National Enquirer, The Globe, The Star, and maybe a few other "organic information transferral media" would put 10 or so reporters (of the type that hound Hollywood types) on IRS-gate, we'd have Congressmen and Senators calling for Roto-Rooter-grade investigations, cleanings, etc.

This is a very different thing, and I think that the facts will show that the deaths could have easily been avoided ... why were they not? Were they a sacrifice, to appease a small punk in the ME, who lost 60 fools, and would no longer play ball with us, unless the SEALs in Benghazi were left to their fate? Things seem to point this way, and I think that once IRS-gate takes a breather, Benghazi will reappear, looking even worse, if it is not quashed.

672 Keep your eyes on the prize. The Obama presidency is already a train wreck less than six months into the second term. Keeping it that way won't take much. More important is the list of likely DNC candidates in 2016. Benghazi may sink Hillary yet and I don't believe Biden can pull off a presidential run. Is there anyone on the left who honestly think he has it in him or still will in three years?

The DNC knows this. Who are their fallbacks? It isn't too early to start building the case against them. I'd hope to hell the GOP has a few people on the payroll doing just that but I've little faith in the GOP collectively doing anything right anymore.

There are some sections of the tax code that are extremely readable....and serve as reminders to those in the business as to what is really going on. For example, section 61(a) of the IRC states "Except as otherwise provided in this subtitle, gross income means all income from whatever source derived, including (but not limited to) the following items:" and lists 15 items. The short translation of this is "we're going to tax it unless we decide not to".

play games (or atleast afk in DOTA and TF2) and get cards and emoticons, collect whole set and craft a badge. BUT there is a limit on how many cards you can get in a game and it doesn't reset so you're stuck trading or selling to get a full set. And there are special edition foil variants of the cards.

Promptly sacking her is the only thing that might keep this from metastasizing into inconvenient harassment/persecution revelations about all the other cabinet post agencies.

The longer this drags on, the more people are going to start going public with their stories of getting fucked over, and some of them are gonna be real doozies.

The last thing Obama needs is horror stories about EPA and Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, etc heavy handedness surfacing.  Most of those victims were effectively intimidated into silence, but they are legion.

689 Star Trek  - Into Darkness isn't as bad as some claim.

I have issues with the directing style, and dark toned scene design that permeates most of the movie.

There's one monstrous continuity disconnect with TOS regarding Pike that wasn't even necessary and could have easily been avoided with a modest script change.

The interior detail of the ships is interesting and has much more gory visual detail than any of the other Star Trek series or movies and it gives a sense of the huge size of a starship quite effectively.

There's a plot fail regarding the range of the transporter tech which seemed pretty obvious, but overall it didn't put me to sleep, which is a big plus.  I get the sense that the writers of this didn't watch too much of TOS for background and continuity.

696 The killing off of Pike was an unnecessary arc disconnect.  Leaving him fucked up and in a coma would have worked just as well and dovetailed into TOS.

Necessary incompatibilities are fine, gratuitous ones smack of laziness.

ex. The original Stargate movie had two-way wormholes, and so did the first few episodes of SG-1.  Early on in Season 1, the writers obviously realized that one-way wormholes were a dramatically more useful plot device and abandoned the two-way shit before they became too committed to it.

697 Necessary incompatibilities are fine, gratuitous ones smack of laziness. Posted by: @PurpAv at May 17, 2013 03:01 AM (/gHaE) Well it's a different timeline from the birth of Kirk forward, so it's a little difficult to say what's gratuitous. Other than saying changing the timeline is gratuitous... I may disagree with a number of their decisions, but they're not continuity issues. TOS universe didn't happen in this timeline, different history.

723 I'm lurking. I don't know Deety. It was a really random post. Hopefully just a drive-by drunk post.

725 Deety does a lot of one line per paragraph, stream of consciousness writing, often of a mysterious quality. Sort of uses AoS like an anonymous confessional. I don't see anything that far out of the ordinary, for her.

741 Report: Russia sends warships to Syrian coast Moscow sent dozen or more warships to patrol waters near its naval base in Syria, Wall Street Journal reports. New York Times adds improved Yakhont missiles also sent to Syria Ynet Published: 05.17.13, 09:53 / Israel News Russia has sent a dozen or more warships to patrol waters near its naval base in Syria, a buildup that US and European officials see as a newly aggressive stance meant partly to warn the West and Israel not to intervene in Syria's bloody civil war, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday. On Thursday, Syria's official news agency SANA reported that five Russian warships had crossed the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean Sea. A Russian Navy spokesperson said that this was the first time in decades that Pacific Ocean Russian warships sail in the area. Related stories: Russia says still committed to Syria arms deal PM meets Russia's Putin for Syria talks Analysis: S-300 to prevent intervention in Syria According to him, the Russian warships are heading to Cyprus. The Russian defense minister said: "The Russian Defense Ministry started setting up a special force of warships in the Mediterranean in order to protect Russia's interests in the region." Meanwhile, the New York Times reported that Russia has sent advanced anti-ship cruise missiles to Syria. The missiles are apparently an improved version of the Yakhonts, which Russia has previously provided to Syria, and have been outfitted with an advanced radar that makes them more effective. While obama sleeps the bear is creeping back into the Middle East and up to no good.

755 According to Politico, President Obama is expected to name White House staffer Daniel Werfel as the new acting IRS Commissioner. Werfel has been controller of the White House Office of Management and Budget since 2009. The appointment will likely fuel the political fire surrounding the IRS. Werfel would replace Stephen Miller, who resigned on Wednesday as acting Commissioner. Miller at one time was expected to be nominated to head the agency. He also served as head of the Tax-Exempt division of the agency, the group at the center of the current IRS scandal. Much of the scandal revolves around fears that the IRS was acting for the political benefit of President Obama. Its targeting of tea party and conservative groups seems driven by a goal of limiting their political activity ahead of the 2012 election. Replacing Miller with a long-time White House will not allay those fears. The IRS Commissioner is subject to Senate confirmation. White House bro of obama's in charge of IRS. Yeah what could possibly go wrong?

note: Miller served in this capacity before the scandal occurred, pre-2009

without mentioning this, it's just spin on the part of Politico to somehow justify Steve Miller's firing as somehow prudent, when the firing was just a political stunt

786 Regarding the DOJ/E new "sexual harassment" views--since men are required by cultural norms to ask women out (the number of men asked out is probably in the very low single percentage points), the new standard will have a "disparate impact" in punishment upon men, and thus can be argued is hence not allowable per standard Supreme Court rulings, if one desires fairness and equality before the law as the Left has attempted to define it. Certainly men are usually minorities on campus. Of course, we know that equality and fairness is not what the Left really wants, but still, I'd like at least to give the system a chance to prove its lack of consistency before dismantling it.
