You're Mitt Romney and it's October 31, 2012 and a witch comes to you and says, "I can help you win 72 percent of the Hispanic vote or give you an extra 4 points of the white vote." Which one do you pick?
Looking at the raw politics of the immigration debate, it's amazing to me that more GOP pros haven't asked themselves some version of this and then bothered to run the numbers to find out which is best for them.
The answer is here (select to see):
But what if Romney had been able to reach a mind-blowing 70 percent of the Hispanic vote? Surely that would have meant victory, right? No, it wouldn't. Romney still would have lost, although by the narrowest of electoral margins, 270 to 268. (Under that scenario, Romney would have won the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College; he could have racked up huge numbers of Hispanic votes in California, New York and Texas, for example, and not changed the results in those states.)
According to the Times' calculator, Romney would have had to win 73 percent of the Hispanic vote to prevail in 2012. Which suggests that Romney, and Republicans, had bigger problems than Hispanic voters.
The Great 'Naturally Conservative' Hispanic Vote
Doesn't seem all that likely to vote for republicans and more importantly doesn't appear to change who it votes for according to major immigration debates or reform.
Here is the Republican share of the Hispanic vote in those elections:
1980: 38 percent
1984: 37 percent
1988: 30 percent
1992: 29 percent
1996: 23 percent
2000: 36 percent
2004: 43 percent (probably more like 38 percent)
2008: 32 percent
2012: 28 percent

Brooklyn Bar Holding Smallest Penis Contest
Do you think your micro penis is the itsy-bitsyest in all of Brooklyn? Then Kings County Bar wants you to sign up for their first annual Smallest Penis in Brooklyn pageant! It's the ultimate wet t-shirt contest for infinitesimal penises.
"The Contest" will be held on Saturday, July 20th starting at 5 p.m. at the bar, located at 286 Siegel Street near the Morgan Avenue L train. The event is open to anyone 21 and over; photo and video submissions will not be accepted, no matter how much you want to send them. Oddly, you don't have to worry about being completely nude, even if you are totally proud of your lilliputian penis: "While nudity is not required, contestants should expect to wear wet underwear (which will be provided)."

Cruz today refusing to be scolded by McCain
The senior senator from Arizona urged this body to trust the Republicans. Let me be clear: I donÂ’t trust the Republicans, and I donÂ’t trust the Democrats. And I think a whole lot of Americans likewise donÂ’t trust the Republicans and the Democrats because it is leadership in both parties that has gotten us into this mess. Â… What we are doing to our kids and grandkids, I think is immoral. Now, I commend the Democrats in this body for their candor. The Democrats and President Obama have been very explicit that it is their intention to raise the debt ceiling and to do so with no conditions whatsoever, just to keep borrowing and borrowing and borrowing money without any structural reforms to fix the problems. That is an intellectually consistent position. I think it is a dangerous position, but it is at least candid and that is the reason why everyday for sixty days the Democrats have opposed taking the debt ceiling off the table in this discussion. But unfortunately, one of the reasons we got into this mess is because a lot of Republicans were complicit in the spending spree, and thatÂ’s why so many Americans are disgusted with both sides of this House.

Context: The Senate took up and passed a budget resolution for the first time in 4 years, on March 23. Republicans gave them a lot of grief for taking so long. Usually the House and Senate pass separate budget resolutions and then they have a conference and get a final bill (called a conference report).
Some of the newer GOP senators (Rubio, Lee, Cruz, Paul) are objecting to the Senate naming conferees and going to conference because they want to require that the conference report not include a debt ceiling raise via reconciliation, which only takes a simple majority vote. Reconciliation got us the Bush tax cuts and Obamacare. This has been going on since a week after Easter. The usual way to tell conferees what to do is via a motion to instruct, but it isn't binding.
Yesterday McCain went to the floor as the request to go to conference was objected to again, and he got mad that the newbies were circumventing the regular order and not allowing votes on motions to instruct (which the Democrats could vote down). Same thing happened again today.

from the Daily Mail tonight about Woolwich jihadis
Last night Newsnight correspondent Richard Watson said: ‘I received a very interesting phone call from a source who knows the British jihadi scene very well and [he] said that one of the attackers was Nigerian in origin, has been living in the UK for many years, [and] was radicalised by the Islamist group Al Muhajiroun [a banned extremist group] in 2003.
‘He suggested to me that just last year this young man was stopped or arrested ... on his way to join Al Shabaab in Somalia.’
More than 200 far-Right English Defence League supporters descended on Woolwich last night. The mob, some wearing black balaclavas, chanted ‘Rule Britannia’ and ‘EDL’, and were kept penned in by police officers.

I did. I don't know if I would have noticed the partner if I had been the driver, though. Target fixation.
I also would have responded differently than the driver did. I would have delivered two shots to the center of mass and then I would have immediately thrown the vehicle into reverse and backed up over the first perp.
Getting an all-terrain tire rolled across his face didn't do Tspeedbump Tsarnaev any favors, and I figure it would be just about the same dealio here. Extra points for a well timed burnout.

45 years ago on May 22, 1968 the US Navy's nuclear attack submarine USS Scorpion ( SSN 589 ) sank approx 400 miles SW of the Azores. She was returning to her homeport in Norfolk, VA after a deployment to the Med. The last radio message sent by the Scorpion was on May 21, 1968.
The exact cause of the sinking is unknown. Some possible causes was a flooding/fire casualty, battery well fire/explosion, a torpedo that exploded in the torpedo room. There are some who claim the Soviets sank her, but that theory has been debunked.
Recent sound analysis from the Atlantic SOSUS records indicate the most probable cause was an explosion in the battery space, probably from a buildup of hydrogen gas. The explosion prevented the crew from maintaining depth control and she imploded at approx 1530 feet. She lies at a depth of 10,000 feet in four major pieces.
99 crewmen died with the Scorpion. In keeping with Navy tradition she and her crew are considered "On Eternal Patrol."

Ah, 2005, the good old days of a functioning economy (relatively speaking).
However, in 2005 I was keeping my son company while he underwent his second heart cath and 2nd major heart surgery. Get married and start a family and no water needed to achieve this "awareness" of which Foster speaks.

This latest massacre by the Religion of Peace have the UK political-media power structure seriously freaked out. They now see the very real possibility of mass defections to UKIP from the other political parties by ordinary British voters who are sick of this imported muzzie nonsense and want their good old country back.
David Cameron in particular has to have shit running down his trouser leg and into his shoe. The Conservatives are sinking like rocks in the polls and losing members to UKIP at a steadily increasing pace.
I was on the Tory-leaning Daily Telegraph site today and they had turned off comments on every single article or blog post related to the jihadi attack. Trying to kettle the wave of public revulsion and anger. Apparently the Twitter activity around the English Defence League has gone completely off the charts.

I said last year that Cameron was going to lose his PM place and maybe the Tories would also lose, due to this very issue.
I was in Canterbury last spring and heard outright disparaging comments about the Muslims. "They have made London a sewer," one shopkeeper told me, and then asked me if I knew anything about the KKK!! I heard tales of parents forced out of their homes due to Muslims moving in, disparagement of Prince Charles, anger at Cameron. They also hate the EU with a white hot passion.
UKIP is going to be a force in the next elections. They already gained a huge number of local offices in the off-year council elections.

Let's face it, they make everywhere a sewer.
and then asked me if I knew anything about the KKK!!
You told them, I trust, that you're not a Democrat?
Seriously, a major problem with all this PC crap is that suppressing criticism and other expressions of annoyance of another group doesn't make it go away, but rather compresses the social spring that eventually goes "boiinnnnggg" and results in over-reaction. EVERY group - Muslims, women, blacks, men, Jews, Lithuanians, Zoroastrians, gingers, Hispanics, southpaws, albinos, whatever - does some antisocial shit that irritates others, and deserves to be criticized for it. Pretending that that irritation doesn't exist, or has no valid basis, just compresses the spring.

there really is no good way to explain THAT.
but i found this confusion endlessly funny as do the morons who actually met my little hairless cat. She was like an adorable and particularly friendly baby gargoyle who just wanted to give kisses and steal your warms. Even her voice was charming. She died of lymphoma around Christmastime and i have been horrendously busy in Meatspace building a Tiny House on my property as a guesthouse/ office. But i always check in and lurk with the Horde. Even sometimes following you all on my phone, reading the threads on horseback. What REAL hard to explain is when you are boppin down the trail on your big black colt, laughing your ASS off, reading the HQ. Though my cowboy friends are more inclined to Grok "Moron" than my artist friends...

HI!!!!!! yeah i will be here for a while tho grimmy wants me to play Castle Crashers with him (the only video game i seem capable of playing)
My little Cecil is doin better and Tater is completely healed from the coyote attack so i guess i got two more indoor Kittehs. I am thrilled they are such wonderful cats, but though she seems to like Cecil, getting Tater and Jellybean to get along is turning out harder than anticipated. seems they are fighting over me. Cecil is more chill and just snuggles with daddy when i am not available. I think to her he smells right... and he should! hes her brother.

Wanna read something funny? It's an interecpeted transmission from Kos. Count the lies, as they are many. Or, play "Where's
Subject: Social Security news so good it will make you giddy
[redacted silly name], as the deficit shrinks, the chances of Congress striking a "grand bargain" and cutting Social Security are fading.
At the same time, populist politicians, grassroots activists, and numbers-based wonks are lining up behind a new idea: expanding Social Security benefits.
The vast majority of Americans think Social Security benefits should be increased, and the wealthy should pay more in taxes to do it. Now, people in power are starting to agree.
Red and purple state senators like Mark Begich (D-AK) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) have introduced bills that would expand Social Security benefits by as much as $800 per recipient, per year. They accomplish this by changing the way benefits are calculated and by finally making millionaires and billionaires pay the same rate of Social Security taxes the rest of us pay.
What's more, respected analysts like Ezra Klein and the New America Foundation have directly confronted the long-time consensus in Washington, D.C., by making the case for expanding Social Security benefits.
More than 100,000 people have already signed a petition from Social Security Works endorsing Sen. Harkin's bill.
This is all just the beginning. The tide has turned, and now we are on offense.
Keep fighting,
Joan McCarter, Daily Kos

It's hard for me to get angry at any one of those government hacks. They are a symptom not the disease.
Monstrous Bureaucratii Pestis allows these creatures to pop up at the head of problems not cause them.
The whole point of the TEA party was to point out the corrupt, inefficient, and capricious nature of our current Federal government.
The MSM and the Left are avoiding this point because it's spot on; our Federal system is a fucking plague. No matter how much you want Big Government to work it is more than obvious now that it cannot by its very nature.
TEA partiers need to work on their human engineering, take this issue, and run with it.
Sadly, yes, it takes money to do this and an instinct to rhetorically headbutt any RINO statist whose looking for cover. But it has to be done.

The Left does these silly things for one reason, primarily: to get Republicans to oppose it. Step 2 is to demonize.
The Republicans are always put into these precarious positions by their political betters. It's the perfect win-win for the Left. If the Republican opposes it, he's vilified for hating the elderly. If the Republicans wimp out and support it, government is expanded (which always means Democrats gain power).

Clearly today we must all be aware that political expediency and latino ethnicity takes precedence over rule of law and constitutional procedure. However you say – WTF ! – what does this mean… in relation to the tabulation whereby we must once again realize that the great reconquesta story is now being rehearsed before our very eyes, in the rise of Marco Rubio… indicating that only a two-faced … I mean a bi-faced … I mean a bi-polar … I mean a bi-lingual hombre can receive…the award for reconquesta, unlike Kenyan Hussein Obama whose reconquesta plans don’t drink water.
And as Miller once said in one of his great novels- what did he … that language is only necessary when bilingual communication is endangered. And you sit there bewildered, and Pinter who went further said “It is not the lack of communication, but fear of communication.” That’s what the damn thing is that we fear – communication – especially all the Spanish communication that’s even on a box of Wheaties now. Damn it! And through all this Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have attained, and have created for themselves serenity, and it is only their cognitive dissonance that is keeping them alive in their absurity.
Senors y Senoritas, Ladies and Gentlemen. The time will come when a first world America will outlive its usefulness. Marx, either Groucho or Karl, I canÂ’t remember which, maybe it was both or maybe it was Harpo, once said that America is the opiate of the people. I say that when America outlives its usefulness and becomes a majority latino nation , then opiumÂ…will be the opiateÂ…Ahh thatÂ’s not a bad ideaÂ… we are going to need that badly especially when the booze runs out Â…
And the completely unbiased and bi-partisan panel, has determined to give the grand prize to Marco Rubio for his EARNESTYÂ’S RAINBOW. Now EARNESTYÂ’S RAINBOW is a token of this manÂ’s geniusÂ…he told me so himself and repeatedly Â… that he could change perceptions by calling his plan for knocking down those pesky borders EARNESTY Â…in other words, he could have been more specific, but rather than allude to an articulation of the mundane, he has come to the conclusion that brevity is the importance of our nationÂ’s shallow first world existence. God damn!
Marco Rubio’s . EARNESTY’S RAINBOW – is a small contribution to a certain degree, since there are over seven billion people in the world today. 450 of them … million live in the United States and Mexico which is a very, very small amount compared to those who will be miserable and dying elsewhere…Well, I say that you will be on the road to new horizons, for we who live in a society where citizenship is a commodity and a politician can become a TV personality, it’s not easy to conform if you have any morality…I, I, I said that myself many years ago…
But I do want to thank la Raza…I mean the RNC … I mean the DNC and it’s subsidiary the RNC, the organization for the $1,000 in affirmative action latino scholarships they’ve given out…tonight they took in over $4,000,000, but they do have expenses for their consultants you know, and I think that I have another appointment. I would like to stay here, but for the sake of brevity I, I must leave. I do want to thank you, and I want to thank Marco Rubio – acting el Presidenta of la Raza Mexiamerica and also Mr. Obama – acting Pharaoh and Drone Commander of the World – and also I want to thank Professor Irwin Corey and thank you. …

Woolwich courthouse is where they try all the British jihadis. From Bloomberg
The court first drew prominence in 2006 as terror trials were moved there from the Old Bailey in central London. In October of that year a British Muslim pleaded guilty to plotting to carry out a series of deadly bomb attacks in the U.S. and U.K., targeting sites including the New York Stock Exchange, the World Bank and Citigroup Inc.
Since then, more than two dozen people have been convicted for terrorism-related offenses at the high-security court in Woolwich.
As recently as February, three men were found guilty in Woolwich of planning a U.K. terror attack meant to be more devastating than the 2005 bombings of London buses and trains.
Woolwich is where the trials are. And where the terrorists are. So, they are pretty sure they were terrorists. And the "Akbar!!" stuff, oh, and they said so.

yeah, unless you live in the NE, about the only reason to like Amtrak is (1) for the "experience", and (2) because you're Joey Choo-Choo Biden.
I am at least glad that our terrible fiscal situation at least put the brakes on the whole high-speed rail nonsense, at least on a national level. (California, well, they are 'special'...)

At any rate, you’ll notice that several of these provisions could be applicable in the present instance, notably (b) (2), (b) (3) (A), and (b) (7). If I were Ms. Lerner, Mr. Miller (who relied heavily on 6103 in his testimony), or anyone in that chain, 1203 would be a huge concern. It is for every Service employee, which is why I and others were always very cautious about taking unapproved initiative in areas that skated close to 1203. (Getting that signature, for example, even in Title 18 seizures, which probably aren’t covered. But when you’re talking “shall terminate the employment” “probably” isn’t safe enough.)

I would be thinking you definitely need some security. To include professional physical security. This has all the hallmarks of a situation that could work to your detriment in many ways, all of them bad.
I've had friends work with me before, and I've had it turn sour, and it's a real problem.
Someone who is let go for nonperformance who knows you outside work is highly likely to take the firing personally, as a betrayal, and try to get at you by various means. Whereas, ceteris paribus, someone who has no outside social connection at all to the person firing them will usually be more objective about the job loss.
If your firm has a solid HR department, let their Catberts deal with the niceties and the not-so-niceties of the fired friend. One HR pro said to me, outside the office, "Being a stone cold bitch but with a calm face and voice, and always perfectly letter-of-the-law professional at the same time, is a difficult combination of skills I had to work to acquire."
I don't have that combination of skills. No way. My own temper is volcanic, VEI 5 volcanic, and can crack the veneer of letter-perfect professionalism right quick, believe you me. At a level that could get both myself and an employer in various civil and criminal legal trouble. So I am very happy there are people who do that for a living instead of me.

One thing I can guarantee you from way back when I was doing BOP brews -- I stood on that hill, silhouetted against the sky holding a turnip, and said, "as God is my witness, I'll never do bottling again!" And then I went and built a kegerator out of green curtains.

according to WSJ and Roll Call tonight:
Obama reportedly plans to end restrictions on sending detainees to Yemen in the coming weeks, according to the Journal, citing unidentified U.S. officials. (A White House official would not confirm the lifting of the Yemen restrictions while Pentagon press secretary George Little said in a statement Wednesday that his office is “not commenting on press reports of transfers associated with Guantanamo.”)
remember the AP story last night about why the JEF won't detain or drone the Benghazi attackers;
The decision not to seize the men militarily underscores the White House aim to move away from hunting terrorists as enemy combatants and holding them at the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The preference is toward a process in which most are apprehended and tried by the countries where they are living or arrested by the U.S. with the host country's cooperation and tried in the U.S. criminal justice system.
our new policy is to ask jihadi countries to prosecute the jihadis that attack us, or help us prosecute the jihadis that attack us
by that reasoning, Pakistan prosecutes Bin Laden
Afghanistan prosecutes the Taliban
and now Somalia and Yemen are in charge of our criminal prosecutions
what could go wrong

You may want to wait until the process is a bit smoother -- I'm hoping that Ninkasi smiles upon my humble first efforts, but there were some questionable moments (such as the wort chiller leaking into the wort, the wet yeast exploding when opened [shoulda sanitized the outside of the bottle!], the yield coming out at 4.5 instead of 5+ gallons, etc.). The target is that I'll be drinking this batch in 3-4 weeks. If this batch goes sour, I have half a mind to try distilling it.

In many ways it's a great place, but there are so many fools doing foolish things (like building bike racks that block fire trucks) that it becomes maddening.
When Giuliani was mayor, there was a sense that New York was a place of infinite possibilities, as long as you didn't fuck with other people.
Now...Bloomberg has allowed the worst of the idiot liberal mindset to become the status quo.

When other peoples' money is gone, you'll squeeze blood INTO stone. It never fails.

Someone was asking about Deadpool the other day. It turns out that there's a game focused on him due out for release late next month. I put together a tinyurl for it, but Pixy's not letting me post it here (and I've never had a problem with that before). Unfortunately, the official site wasn't really functional when I visited. But Steam has the trailer, and you can check for it there.

What bill burr forgot to mention is that there's a sure fire way to mitigate the poor influence one's dick can be. Exercise, plain a simple. I suggest that a peepee is like a dog. When it gets plenty of exercise, it's mellow and mostly harmless. When it's pent up all day, it gets rowdy, unmanageable, tears up the cushions and shit. In the old days, if some anthropologists are to be believed, men boned everything in sight that was possible to bone. I'm told we've evolved to a higher, more intellectual form but our dicks haven't. We can't go around trying to give gals the two-ball cure-all in an unrestrained manner anymore, because we're more civilized, we've a better chance of going to jail, and lots of people carry guns. So, if mr Johnson can't be let out to run in the wild and indulge it's wild instincts, the next best thing is a treadmill. Who would've ever thought I'd be thinking of my hand as a treadmill? Damn. The deluxe treadmill version comes with baby oil. My life is small and shitty. I wonder if there's a paleo-diet for dicks. Gettin' back to our nature.....
I've no idea what the fuck I just wrote.

This is sort of the antithesis of the current attitude in Britain. I love this poem because it is both patriotic and pessimistic.
An Irish Airman Foresees His Death
I know that I shall meet my fate
Somewhere among the clouds above;
Those that I fight I do not hate,
Those that I guard I do not love;
My country is Kiltartan Cross,
My countrymen Kiltartan's poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.
Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public men, nor cheering crowds,
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.

And women do not get it; what does love have to do with it? New territory is the one and only consideration, and it is powerful.
An honorable man, one who is faithful, understands the only solution is to avoid the near temptation of sin. But even that requires a higher sense of love.
And for men, when do they understand that the love might actually be worth it?

Reports only say the videographer was an onlooker. In an era where nearly everyone has a video camera in their pocket, taking that video and being prepared to run was the right thing to do if you lacked the means to bring down the guy with the blades. Keeping the guy busy ranting and raving kept him from leaving the area and evading capture.
I like to think I'd be looking for some good throwable objects and a trash can lid or some other improvised shield against a thrown cleaver. Stoning the lunatic into submission would seem appropriate for an Islamist. These days, a public trash can would probably lack much in the way of good missiles. Something to regret about the shift from glass to plastic bottles.

I was in the Ryder with the FIL, with my car on a trailer. Wife and MIL were in her car. FIL is a gadget geek, so he brought his hand-held CBs. Naturally built in HDD was wasted throwing all sorts of recalibration errors, and new ones are made out of unobtanium...so I fitted a Microchannel Future Domain SCSI adapter.
The CPU chip was an IBM manufactured 386, not an Intel. Not ceramic packaging like Intel's. This one was in an aluminum can with epoxy filled bottom. Very IBM'ish manufacture methods.
Alas, IBM was using the early Intel 386 masks, and all those were B1 stepping level -- i.e. chock full of very nasty errata, so I swapped it out for an Intel made 25mhz D1 stepping level 386. It won't run any faster, but it won't have all the chip bugs either.
Fitted an Intel 80387 math coprocessor. That was some Rolls Royce shit back in the day. That chip was selling for like $900 when they came out. They only people who had them were the engineering workstation crowd. About $15 now on eBay.
The most critical upgrade was an external 360k floppy drive so you can load the old vintage software. Luckily, I had one and it passed all diags fine.
IBM used a 15-pin monitor connector with one of the pins blocked off. IOW - a new LED flat screen with all 15-pins won't plug in. Turned out the blocked pin spot is just superficial and soft plastic and can be drilled out with a 1/16" drill and there's actually a pin socket hiding underneath, so you don't gotta drill far at all to expose it. WIN.
1.44M floppy was dead, replaced that with a working spare.

I've been working (slowly, a hobby kinda thing) for the past 25 years evolving this app that sucks up the output produced by compilers then rewrites the emitted code into a smaller more linker efficient package as well as being able to diddle all sorts of thing like external names, segment names, fix bugs that some compilers injected into the code they produced. There's code I've written that does a flow analysis of the machine code and can hack it and improve it automatically.
Its something I fiddle with when I need inspiration.

I've still got a bunch of Model 95's and a wide selection of T1/2/3/4 processor complexes for them.
About 8 months ago I ditched a pile of old Model 80's and 60's and a half dozen 95's just to get some space back. I still have one 50z, a model 60, and one model 80 though, and a few different motherboards for the M80.
The Model 60/80's have one major problem -- the foam used to seal the air channels on the covers depolymerizes and turns to sticky black goo eventually. Real PITA to clean that shit off and replace it. The power supplies and motherboards are pretty bulletproof. I've never seen one fail. Having the battery on separate dingus keeps the leaky dead battery gunge away from the electronics.
The Model 95's are amazingly robust machines, and I love them to death, but they use a CR2032 carrier on the planar that can leak and wreck shit.
I see someone trying to sell a pimped out Model 95 on eBay for $1000. I'm guessing they ain't having much luck. I got all mine for less than $50 years ago.

Holder has already done some very criminal things - F&F, Black Panther poll watchers, just to name two.
I don't doubt he'd do something else criminal. Probably already has. But I'd be shocked if he ever gets called on it.

Gotta build a vintage machine like I am. An old 486 with a VGA running DOS should go it.
All those old 80-500M IDE drives of that era are gonna be pretty wheezy by now though. I've scrapped out stacks of dead ones in the past couple of years.
Scare up an old ISA SCSI Adaptec or Future Domain ISA adapter and you'll be pretty future proofed for DOS'ish things. There's tons of SCSI drives on eBay. Adapters for wide-to-narrow, SCA-to-narrow are all available and not hideously expensive.

I always assumed it was straight up AA, but you could be right.

Wish I could do that. Dunno what all those fancy pants words and letters are, but they sound important. I know what DOS is and also drive. I think. I can use a hammer on a computer if it gets uppity. There are a few old games I miss from back in the day.

Don't panic.
I just did an inventory...there's still 13 Model 95's left in stock...well a few are 85's that have the CPU on the planar rather than a processor complex, but the cases and power supply arraignment are identical.
Its a mix of 8595 and 9595. The 9595 had two LPT ports on the planar and a slightly longer opening in the case for it. with a bit of sawzall magic to make a bigger hole, the 9595 planar can be fitted to the older cases.
I also have a stack of spare 9595 planars and a handful of the vaunted P60/66/90 processor complexes for them...and a shoebox full of 8M memory modules.

I sure I can get them again from somewhere, if I don't already still have them. It's getting them to work on a new system with widescreen thingy and not-DOS and stuff. I really wish I'd kept the old ones like the ram line and what not. Back when comps were steam powered.

Tried dosbox before. Just can't get it to do whatever. At least with old DooM. There seems to be things you got to do besides getting someone to put it in the comp, and typing- "start damn you, start!".

The PS/2's to avoid are the 386SX ones, like the Model 65 and 55SX. They used those damned Dallas DS128 RTC chips and every one of them is stone dead and they won't hold a configuration anymore.
Replacements with fresh manufacture batteries are unavailable, so you'd be into a nasty chip peeling and fitting of a CR2032 carrier job to bring one back to life.
I did that a couple of times, then decided it wasn't worth the effort and gave every Dallas equipped machine I had a dirt nap.

Yeah, I tried that once with Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, as some bastard nicked my copy. But it wouldn't work. Dunno why. Couldn't figure it out Want to get SSI's Second Front again, but last time I managed to run it on an old comp, by todays standards, it played too fast to follow what was happening, even on minimum speed setting. It was from 87, or something. Worked a treat on the old floppy disk ram line thingy. I might have to consider getting some tech dude to do it and buy the games on ebay or something.

If you find an old Pentium 75-133mhz machine, fit it with an ISA slot VGA card, disable any L2 cache (usually just yanking a module out on that era machines, no chips), then disable the L1 via BIOS setting if you can, that P75 will slow to a 386 speed crawl.
All the modern CPU's of the Pentium era are heavily dependent on their L1/L2 caches for their speed because the 66mhz FSB main memory subsystems they were fitted with were were so slow.
I put an old Trident ISA video card in a 200mhz Pentium Pro as an experiment and it slowed to a crawl.

All had weak power supplies that eventually resulted in their final retirement and dirt nap. I'd find'em with dead drives and/or a bad PC100 module, fix that shit and run'em for a few more years with SCSI, decent video and a few more memory modules (scarfed of course from other freebie curbside organ donors)
I kinda settled on the old Matrox Millenium Mil1/Mil2's as my "standard" video card for older machines. I picked up a stack of used 4M and 8M ones for like $5/ea years ago and they've served me well for a very long time. Not a gaming card, but for general use and development they're great and the Matrox drives are solid.

Thanks. I'll write that down. Second Front is available as a free download. If I can get it work and it runs to fast, I'll have some sort of recourse.

Probably doesn't need a GPU fan. If they're looking to push old recycled hardware out into the countryside schools, something like that would be perfect. Mediocre video is fine for a lot of things.

You might look for a IBM Server 320 for a case. They're spacious, the power supply is stout, and the front is loaded with 5.25" openings and there's room for two floppy drives.
The first image on this search is one.
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=ibm+server+320&FORM=HDRSC2
Be aware, they came in two major flavors -- PCI/EISA and PCI/Microchannel. The EISA flavor has 8 standard card slot openings in the back, the Microchannel one has two standard PCI slot openings and the rest have Microchannel spacings.
I ran a PCI/EISA one for a few years with Windows 2000 and it was quite nice with dual 233mmx's (not stock). Sadly, the dual Pentium PCI/EISA planar has that fucking Dallas chip.
The PCI/Microchannel used a CR2032, but that motherboard is a major headache, won't run Windows 2000, and won't boot if you take the CPU's above anything other than plain Jane P133's

The stock Model 70's used that goofy DBA drive and had no standard internal power connectors cuz they were snapped together like Legos by robots.
