CEO magazine put out its annual business friendliness ranking of the states and here are the bottom 10 states:
And unshockingly they're all nearly all blue states with blue state legislatures (can you name the exceptions?). And all of them either lost congressional seats or stayed the same during the 2010 reapportionment. So people are voting with their feet.
By contrast the top 10 are almost all red states and most gained seats in Congress. And are in general just nicer places to live.

Western Manhood and the Message Sent
After beheading the British soldier the two Jihadi killers fearlessly strode around, demanding people record their statements and only allowing women near the body. The crowd complied.
The women came forward. Children in nearby schools were locked down by their teachers. This incident illustrates, if nothing else, the endpoint of the social engineering of the West. It has been remarkably effective.
From a certain point of view, the British crowd behaved perfectly and this is the way "they" all want us to behave. The populace sheltered in place, didn't do anything rash, talked to the perpetrators as people. They waited for the police to come and the hospital helicopter to take the corpse away. Some will doubtless get counseling to overcome their shattering experience.
And then they will congratulate themselves on how tough British society is; resilience and all that. The more caring will leave some flowers by a railing and hold a few candle vigils for healing and peace, until these wither and blow away and the news cycle washes up a new object of attention.
The attackers knew they were actors in a drama - as keenly watched in their communities as on the BBC. And in that other audience they were asking: "How will the locals behave?" We know now. And that other audience may derive an entirely different lesson from this tableau: "See? Only their women act like men. They follow orders. They are nothing anymore - these Westerners. They are a civilization whose core has been destroyed."
News junkies - which probably includes you and me - are aware of what Mickey Kaus called "undernews" - stories that never quite break out of the blogs. John Edwards' scandal was well-known to most in the political press, but a lot of mainstream media institutions averted their eyes for a long time from the evidence. (Working in the news-gathering profession does not necessarily expose one to undernews, as shown by the woman who didn't understand why President Obama was joking about eating a dog in his 2012 White House Correspondent's Dinner speech.)
Well I've visited Canada often enough to have picked up a bit of the native tongue - mostly common nouns and curses. As best I can tell this is an account of one man's struggle against nature along with the occasional involvement of beer and hockey. Could just be a lucky guess though.
For years, I was a keener, but after my short-lived stint as reeve of Dildo, Nfld., in which I stumped for the still-unpopular Gouge and Screw Tax - dinged in the polls and my approval rating going downhill as fast as a runaway toboggan or a bus shagger - I put the kerfuffle behind me and tried to forget the fact that I'd been soundly turfed, even though Joey Smallwood's buddy had cherry-picked me himself. I got off the chesterfield, threw on my old housecoat and thongs, hucked a forty pounder, half-sack of swish and mickey of goof in a Loblaws bag over my shoulder before leaving my bachelor apartment to head due west past fire halls and hydros and parkades and corner stores in the direction of Dead Rear, Oilberta looking for some kind of joe job - cleaning eavestroughs; stitching hockey sweaters; packing Smarties; anything! - although damned if I knew whether I would find work once I got there.
Hipsters Are Full of Shit - Literally
Since diapers are so bourgeois, square and un-ironic the in thing amongst hipster parents apparently is to simply do without them AKA elimination communication:
Instead of putting diapers on your baby, you wait for them to somehow let you know that they have to shit at which point you run to the toilet and hold them over the bowl so the little fledgling craps in the commode. This week is Go Diaper Free! Week where I live in New York City, a holiday of grossness spearheaded by the assholes that follow this nonsense. So I got to see a hipster dad, handlebar mustache and all, get the "signal" from his baby at a restaurant, try to rush the defecating little bastard to the toilet, and not make it in time. This kid dropped a huge deuce right in the middle of the dining room. The poor bussers had to help this dickhead dad clean it up. He then sat back down and I heard him proudly explain this EC crap to his party. When I went home I looked it up and I saw this article on DNAinfo.com explaining this diaper free bullshit. Like I needed another reason to want to punch a hipster.
Next step poop baggies at every public facility along with the occasional golden puddle and shit loaf in the lobby.![]()
In March 2013, the U.S. government invented a new way of calculating GDP. The Financial Times reported that starting from July 2013, U.S. GDP would become 3% bigger due to a change in statistics. [GDP] now includes R&D spending, art, music, film royalties, books, theatre. This change in GDP statistics has not been implemented elsewhere in the world. So the U.S. is the first to accomplish this rewriting of the GDP number.Research and development (R&D) spending, which shouldn't even be accounted for as investment, adds a significant amount to the U.S. GDP number. It accounts for around 2% of U.S. GDP. Art, music, film royalties, books and theatre add another 0.5% to U.S. GDP. Another adjustment has been made to pension accounting. Previously, pension spending was included in GDP. After this adjustment however, we also look at the "promise" to pay out pensions. So we are talking about imaginary numbers that are now included in GDP. A last example is found in real estate. Commissions, legal bills and expenditures on real estate transactions are included in GDP as "investment." Obviously these expenditures aren't associated with real production.
One of the consequences is that comparing the GDP number between other countries and the U.S. is not transparent anymore. It is like comparing apples and oranges. GDP should measure real production (like building a factory) and what the U.S. government added here is not real production. It is a measure of spending in the economy and there are items in the GDP number that don't add real value to the economy (like writing books).

It's Hell Being Posh on £100,000 a Year
The Broke Generation are now too poor to shop in Chelsea or even get a proper shagging:
We spent weekends at his country house near Oxford. I never cooked because he employed a chef. When we had arguments about money, it was because he had spent thousands of pounds on a 17th-century chair on which I was not allowed to sit lest I damage the upholstery, or complained about my smoking because it 'wasn't good' for his Zoffany paintings. The other day I bumped into a mutual friend and I asked after my ex.
'He's not doing so well. He had to sell his house and his art collection,' he explained.
'Did he go bankrupt?' I enquired in horror.
'No, he still earns about £200,000. It's just you have to be an oligarch to live the way he used to.'
These days, many members of the Broke Generation are finding that the money they earn can't even buy them love.
'I can't afford to have sex at the moment,' says my former school friend Rosamund, a slender, 40-year-old lawyer who broke up with her banker boyfriend after he demanded she pay half the rent on his Mayfair flat.

So I heard the rumour recently, about that car that hit our bus on Tuesday, and bashed up my head and spine and hip - that the owner of said vehicle had had problems with his brakes two weeks ago.
I'm feeling better though. I think (so far) that the effects are all on the level of bruises on the skin. The bus drivers think that I should get checked out anyway. But as a rule I don't want to get sucked into Lawyer World (even as a plaintiff).

But then normally, the woman has been bearing and raising a few kids as of the age of 40 (my mom had three by this point). This, this woman didn't do.
I am guessing that she didn't want to harm her figure. This, given that if she *had* been awesome as a lawyer and if she *had* been serious as an equal partner: she would have *demanded* that she foot half the bill. That is how internally-consistent feminism works.
One lives with the choices one makes, ultimately.

On usdebtclock, the revision of the US GDP numbers pushed the gross debt to GDP number below 107% but it's almost back to 107% again - despite the lies.
Here's the next step. The government counts the work of all housewives in the GDP figure.
If you're against that, you're part of the war on women.

TPH, something else to note, is what Raymond Chen (oldnewthing) talked about some time ago (I can't find the post right now.)
The general gist of it is that you only hear about a disaster if all the failsafes...uh fail.
You never hear on the news "The powerplant almost went down today as overload detector 1 and 2 died, but 3 and 4 prevented problems."
It leads to this idea that "if only we had 1 more failsafe we'd have been ok."
I think at least some of the Texas plant has issue revolves around this too. It was a worst case scenario.

The moronic thing is, at a pure philosophy level he reached a reasonable conclusion (if you give him a generous interpretation), but he achieved it by moronic premises invalidating it.
If a society supports the free exchange of ideas then there is actually an impetus not to be a douchy heckler shouting down people who are scheduled to speak. (Whether or not you agree with them.)
In fact, such actions are anti-speech.
However Obama's a moron so he made it a narcissistic thing: "I have a right to be heard." No not really, you have no right to be heard, and truthfully you have no right not to be interrupted, however others have theoretical moral obligations not to do so, but they are not rights as you use the term dipwad.
Better to make the point that heckling is anti-speech (but he's only capable of seeing things as "I, me, mine."
But like I said, she was a plant there to justify his opinion. He got a two-fer for it: 1) he get to say "see angry people about Gitmo. Gitmo is bad!" and 2) he looks sane on the other issues by comparision (to LIVs).

The US food looks like crap. That's probably a good idea. Why give the plebes the notion that there's anything better out there? If they always expect crap, then they don't complain when they get crap.

In France and much of Europe, it is common for people to bring their dogs in with them.
Years ago we were out to dinner in a little French restaurant in the Opera district of Paris, and a lady I worked with picked up her purse from the floor as we were leaving, and it had fresh dog shit on it.
Nice.

PBS Detroit (yeah, I know, pbs...) had a great documentary "Detropia" that interviewed several people and chronicled the decline of the city. The film makers shut up and just let the people talk.

The failed bridge in Minneapolis-St Paul a few years ago had a chronicle of deferred maintenance, and corrosion problems that frankly were caused by neglect and bird shit, but mostly bird shit.
Just seeing one picture of that bridge collapse on I-5 looks like some of the bridging trusses failed catastrophically, probably due to corrosion and neglect.
They probably painted over the corrosion as "maintenance" and did not sandblast it away and then paint. Rivets probably rusted and when a few started to fail, the structure just unzipped.
Pretty freaking tragic for those poor souls on the bridge at the time.
I hope that diversity isn't lost over this. That would be really tragic then.

My guy to replace Kay Barely Republican was Michael Williams because I had never heard of Cruz. Of course I voted for Cruz once the runoff came. Dewhurst was not an option unless he was the runoff winner, could not have voted for any Demo, never have never will. Williams would be a good Cornyn replacement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_history_of_Argentina#Export-led_boom
Argentina, which had been insignificant during the first half of the 19th century, showed growth from the 1860s up until 1930 that was so impressive that it was expected to eventually become the United States of South America.[46] This impressive and sustained economic performance was driven by the export of agricultural goods.[47]
During the second half of the 19th century, there was an intense process of colonization of the territory in the form of latifundia.[2] Until 1875 wheat was imported as it was not grown in sufficient quantities to supply local demand;[48] by 1903 the country supplied all its own needs and exported 75,270,503 imperial bushels (2,737,491.8 m3) of wheat, enough to sustain 16,000,000 people.[49]
In the 1870s real wages in Argentina were around 76% relative to Britain, rising to 96% in the first decade of the 20th century.[50] GDP per capita rose from 35% of the United States average in 1880 to about 80% in 1905,[51] similar to that of France, Germany and Canada.[52]
Peron has a very special place in Hell.

St Leo's School in Arlington. I like the school. His teacher is married to an Army officer, so she understands deployments. That helped. Not much opinion on the church, but to my Baptist ear, the mass sounded pretty traditional.

The book is "My Teachers are Zombies."
Three friends find out that their teacher is a zombie (spoiler alert!) and have to stop her. Of course their teacher is a her. Because, Patriarchy.
Read the sample provided on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CKJ70AW
It's quickly paced and doesn't take up a hundred pages to describe the damn drapes or how anyone is brooding. There's action and plenty of things to pick up on if you read between the lines and into what isn't said.

Floodgates of decay have opened recently?
Every major big city (and plenty of small and medium size cities) that are in financial, political and social turmoil, are the direct result of populist Democrat politics. Bankrupt, ruined, monuments to "tolerance and diversity" triumphant.
It's been going on for decades AND IT WAS PLANNED!
Urban renewal and gutting the middle of cities by ramming through Interstate highways (and always someone on the inside making a fortune selling land for the easements) and the flight of the white middle class. The legacy of Lyndon Johnson and the Great Society, now bears fruit with the travesty of ruined cities and solid Democrat voters.

Yeah! Me too. Glad I brought my kids up with some religion, though, to give them a basic understanding of what's up. This is what is wrong with our society today. Parents, raised in the church, decided they didn't need it, so neither did their kids. Hence, no structure. We are reaping what we've sown, but almost no one can connect the dots. I know, I beat this drum almost every time I comment here, but there's nowhere else to do it. I'm viewed as a trog amongst my peers elsewhere.

No doubt that in the bill will be a definition of media, as a descriptor of who and what will be covered by the bill.
Now, I'm not a lawyer, and I have a hard time being as concise as you folks, so bear with me, but when we may think of those descriptions as necessary parts of defining what a bill covers, those in government, wily in their legalese, craft those definitions specifically for the exclusions. ( Was that a classic run-on sentence, or what?)
Long sentence short, if'n you ain't in, you're out.
So while you may read a bill that says what it can't do to "authorized media", those bastards will read it as "if you aren't authorized, you're fair game".

Which leads me, Carolla-style, to another thing. The word infrastructure has an "r" in the second syllable. It's not pronounced "infastructure". Mmmkay?
And another thing. Entrepreneur, likewise, has an "r" in the second syllable. It's not pronounced "antapinure".

There was an old Star Trek ep on tv the other day that I'd never seen. At least I don't remember it. Some weird thing with Gary Lockwood and Sally Kellerman. They were all wearing pastel coloured turtlenecks. No McCoy. I think it was the original doctor. Have seen the pilot episode with Jeffrey Hunter a fair few times, but not this one. Was it another pilot episode? I'm pretty sure it wasn't included in the reguklar season broadcasts and reruns for some reason, at least not around here. I think it always started with "Charlie X" or whatever it was, as the first episode. Dunno.

I've watched reruns of Star Trek for decades, and don't remember it as the season 1 opener, or episode 2 or anything, at all. We'd get the charlie x one, or the jeffrey hunter pilot one first, IIRC.

Ok releasing my trek geek.
The jeffrey hunter one if I remember right never aired back then, it was supposed to be the pilot, but I don't think it aired. It eventually got cut up and reused in that later episode of the regular series for that episode called "the menagerie".

At least I don't remember it. Some weird thing with Gary Lockwood and
Sally Kellerman. They were all wearing pastel coloured turtlenecks. No
McCoy. I think it was the original doctor. Have seen the pilot episode
with Jeffrey Hunter a fair few times, but not this one. Was it another
pilot episode? I'm pretty sure it wasn't included in the reguklar season
broadcasts and reruns for some reason, at least not around here. I
think it always started with "Charlie X" or whatever it was, as the
first episode. Dunno.

That one is called where no man has gone before I think. It was the 2nd or 3rd episode aired, although it was filmed first IIRC. It was definitely a regular episode and has always been shown.

Yeah, I know about the 2 parter that the it got used in. That Hunter pilot wasn't shown originally, but sometime in the late 80's, I think, it got included in the TV reruns, sometimes as the 1st episode. IIRC? Anyway, just trying to get a handle on the status of the Lockwood one, as it looks an awful lot like a 2nd pilot (different cast, different uniforms, different sets) and I don't recall it at all. Mind you the episodes of various series get changed up a bit with series, even in first run, over here. Dunno. Maybe I'm more retarded than I think I am.

"Even the most insidious accusation, that Microsoft now has the ability to Morgan-Freeman-in-The-Dark-Knight everyone who owns an Xbox One, is almost passingly absurd. A scandal from something like that might literally shutter the whole damn Xbox project. These are not no-warrant spy devices. They are game consoles. And further, if the Xbox team wants to see me in my damn underwear, go ahead, get an eyefull boys and girls. If it wants to listen to me sing along to rap songs I donÂ’t actually know the lyrics to, or watch me mouth the words to every scene in Never Been Kissed, it can go right ahead. I am not trafficking in State secrets, and it seems deeply paranoid (and more than slightly conceited) that anyone has much interest at all in watching me sit on my ass being awful at Halo."

I think the confusion is because even though the hunter one wasn't aired, its still counted as 1st episode, and the one with gary mitchell is counted as episode 2, but it is the first episode with kirk. Both were pilot episodes, its just that the kirk one was aired, so I guess that explain the similarities in costumes.

When Roddenberry and crew realized they were not going to make the quota of episodes for a season they took the un-aired footage from The Cage and made a two-part episode. Spock kidnaps the now disabled Capt. Pike along with USS Enterprise and sets off for Talos IV. Commodore Mendez and Capt. Kirk hold a court-martial aboard Enterprise for Mr. Spock. It is during the court-martial we see the footage from The Cage. Once Enterprise reaches Talos IV Spock's purpose is revealed. It is to give Capt. Pike at least the illusion of health and happiness. And Commodore Mendez vanishes from the briefing room, he was also an illusion from the Talosians. So last scene is of Capt. Pike, Jeffrey Hunter, holding hands with a youthful Vina, Susan Oliver. And Mr. Spock is absolved.
** When they were shooting the original pilot they were doing screen tests on Susan Oliver to see what green body makeup would work best. But a strange thing happened, when they got the tests back Susan Oliver was her normal skin tone. So they tried even darker green makeup and same thing happened. They finally found out the guy in the film lab just 'knew' no one was supposed to be green skinned so he had been adjusting things. Once that was sorted out, Susan Oliver as the seductive and deadly Orion slave girl was born.

Hi runningrn!
Looks like according to KIRO they have the truck, or at least its load, a bit south of the bridge. It's a weird open box. It was an oversize load. The driver may have clipped the bridge on one side without even realizing it, because it drove on.
Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at May 23, 2013 08:39 PM (RZ8pf)
Don't think so, there's a wide load truck stopped on the side of the road with a pilot truck in front of it. If that's the truck they're talking about, it appears to all be a horrible accident.
And nothing more.

PGiS I saw a show about mega quakes. Talking about the Chile super quake, this was before Japan, and part of I think I-5 had been damaged in an earlier quake. But all they were doing was monitoring that double-deck roadway because they did not have money to strengthen it. All I could think of, someone's priorities are screwed up if they did not make those repairs a priority.

That was "Where No Man Has Gone Before" with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Gary Lockwood and Sally Kellerman as the guest stars. It aired intact somewhere in the first season.
"The Cage" was broken up into two episodes, "The Menagerie" in order to fill season one. New filler material (most of the first episode) was filmed to make it fit into the canon.

I was referring more to the makeup than the costuming. There is a definite relation between the prototype Spock and the Klingons. The makeup department came through on delivering an alien character that didn't require a ton of work every day on the set but he was just too menacing. But they knew they had something there and found a use for it.
Part of what made how they looked on a B and White TV was that they were metaphoric vaguely Asian bad guys. Barbarians while the Romulans took on the more far thinking and restrained menace, although both were standins for Cold War opponents of the US.
It wasn't Nimoy's first alien. He, like Andreas Katsulas and Ron Perlman, built a career out of being a bit odd looking and giving the makeup department a head start on creating an non-human.

His [Spock] skin tone had a yellowish tinge. As a footnote it mentions Spock started out with reddish skin. But they tried various colors which looked fine on a color TV set but on a black and white TV it looked phony. Reason why Spock looked greenish was because local station mixers would adjust things.

849 I suspect the hooligans had not yet risen for the day. Sumbitches are never around when you need them.
I think some of them woke up...and took to the streets that night.
They were yelling "Enough!"
The decline of the land of half my ancestors saddens me. I think we need to repatriate some hillbillies and remind the British what they're made of.
Yeah, Tammy...it is sad.
It comes from letting the Leftist elitists define what "being civilized" is.
It has happened to other countries, in ages past.
Like with the ancient Greeks...who were too busy navel-gazing to be bothered with worrying about enemy invaders.
It's funny that the term "hillbillies" actually comes from the hill folk over there, who were loyal to King William.

Yeah, I saw it. They're advertising upstate NY -- Buffalo -- which actually may be sincere."
Yeah, that's the one. Buffalo is completely f-ed up. Buffett is probably in it because he owns the newspaper, which is a rag. That stuff they say about taxes? Hell, this must be one of the most-taxed states in the union. The population is aging; there have never been any major new employers in the last 50 years. The top 5 employers are all the govt. At least half of the people who graduate from our high schools ultimately leave. It's unusual to run into anybody here who is not from here. The state is run by NYC, and Buffalo has never had anything but a Democrat governor. The population of Buffalo proper has dropped in half over the last few decades. The only new things worth mentioning are a GEICO facility that probably employs less than 1000, and a new Yahoo facility that probably employs fewer than that. The yahoo thing is actually kind of interesting, though - it's for massive quantities of servers, and I guess they like the moderate temperatures around here, and they found a spot that's pretty windy.

That episode will always be a favorite of mine because I contributed some labor on TOS era props that had to be recreated for it. I was helping a friend who had designed that year's Hugo award (the one that appears briefly in a B-5 episode) and while we were standing around waiting for stuff to be ready to come out of the molds, we were put to work on helping pour silpak in other molds and painting phasers and stuff.
I also liked it a lot when Sisko has to go before the Federation Time Travel authorities and explain what happened. He starts by mentioning Kirk and both of the agents exchange a look and a brief interchange.
"Kirk."
"It's always Kirk."

You gotta love the Scotch-Irish, and I got some of that in me, too.
They were encouraged to go settle in Northern Ireland by the English, then where they were very industrious and prosperous, and started to compete with the English, who then came up with a bunch of laws to screw them over. They essentially became a people without a country, and emigrated all over the anglosphere. In the US, they got the opportunity to "show their appreciation" for all that the English had done for them!! Ah, the "magic" of central government planning!
As I understand it, they were tough as nails, and incredibly good shots.

If it weren't for the Scots-Irish 'hillbillies'...we may not have won the Revolutionary War.
We can also thank them for words like "Y'all" -- which is a contraction of "Ye all".
Also "trailblazing"...which came from making a notch on a tree trunk, which looked like the 'blaze', or white mark, on the face of a horse.

Another part of that Hugo was my work.
http://www.thehugoawards.org/hugo-trophies/1996-hugo-award-trophy/
The Chesney Bonestell moonscape background was the part we (Mike Donoghue and I) did with the same material Proper was using for the Trek props. The film reel on the bottom had stills from various SF and Fantasy movies as individual frames. I captured those from VHS tapes using a Snappy device from Play. At the time it was remarkably hard to get this done without really expensive gear, so the Snappy was a real bargain at the time for under $100. It would be trivial today but getting a good set of frame grabs ate up most of a day.
Mike drove the core concept and made the spotlights by chopping the ends off some flashlights and modifying those. Or that might have been Barry Workman. Barry was very adept with machining and built small steam engines as a hobby. I cannot say for sure but I'd guess that the bulk of the graphic execution was done by Shawn Crosby as that is his sort of thing

How so? You didn't specify the conquerors.
The UK is in the process of being conquered and their only choice is whether the conquerors are foreign invaders or that portion of themselves that still possesses some vitality. Either way, a country that allows something like that to happen in the streets of its capitol is in need of conquering.

A medieval love tale. Exactly like Excalibur (only different) the Bone of Supremacy has supernatural powers. The Bone of Supremacy was formed when a sabretooth tiger was bitten by a radioactive spider and struck by a meteorite while he was leg humping a mastodon. The Bone of Supremacy was lost for thousands of years and sought after by adventurers of all kinds to no avail. Until one day when a plucky little ginger lad retrieved it from the mouth of a snoring bear. This is his story.
See the Bone of Supremacy, now playing in theaters near you.

888 I'm just saying that whatever it was that drove the Scots-Irish to settle this frontier, it's part of their genetic makeup, and while minority victimization and the feminizing influence of liberalism tries to castrate this conquering impulse, it's a hopeless endeavor. They will always be conquerors.
---------
If I may...I think it was the dream of Freedom, that was the driving force of our ancestors to settle here.
They wanted to be left alone.
They wanted to make their own way, and be left alone.
If they had to conquer a wilderness to do it, or fight off hostiles, then so be it.
The 'conquering' part was necessary achieve their goal of...freedom.
Thank God they had the defiant spirit, coupled with the courage and perseverance to get it done.
This is still in our collective DNA.
It has not been bred out of us.
Well...not all of us.

I honestly don't follow the local news much (it's horrible), but I don't know of any new thing going on that would make anything different. The Governor is a gun-grabbing fascist (we may all hear more about that in time), but has bragged about getting the budget done on time (which used to be rare). I think they may have eased up taxes a little, but they still must be ridiculous. I don't really know about regulations, but I would be extremely pessimistic.
I thought Buffett owned the Southern Pacific, or something. He's never in the news regarding railroads, which - you're right - don't amount to much here. Like I said, he owns the newspaper, which runs Obama propaganda and never even mentions (that I've seen) that he was literally a memer of Obama's team.
Here's the culture: A few years ago somebody came along and said they might be interested in investing a Billion dollars turning the abandoned Bethlehem Steel plant into some sort of coke (a by-product of coal) processing plant. The politicians were almost unanimously against it, and the news media dug up some local professor from the state college, who said he didn't think it was practical.
So get that - somebody wants to invest a BILLION dollars in your town, without the usual bribe of millions in tax breaks, and they TURN UP THEIR NOSE AT IT, in an economically-depressed area where they should be doing cartwheels instead. We're suppose to listen to some weasel academic, instead of a business that has $1B that they're foolish enough to want to invest with this sorry town.
It never happened (pretty much nothing ever does), and so the square mile of rusted-out abandoned steel mill is still sitting idle, like it's been doing for 40 years.

He's been quietly buying up railroads all across the country...ever since Barky was elected.
That's sad about the spurned Billion-dollar opportunity.

But it would likely be short term, and expire after a period of time.

sure, we'd take a call center from Microsoft.
but our retarded city council, they think the way to revitalize downtown is to put a casino down there.
that is just a cheap gimmick. it is not a solid base for economic growth.

isn't that just fitting

Working midshifts opens up oppurtunities to watch late night Cartoon Network programming. Take Family Guy for instance. Its hit and miss. A funny part followed by lame not remotely funny parts. MacWhathisname thinks he's clever doesn't he?? He has his moments but for the most part,,,,lame. American Dad is the same. Squidbillies & Ventura Bros. is some funny shit though.

Family Guy should have never gotten a second chance and with the way South Park destroyed Family Guy, it's even worse

Well I gotta sit through three different teleconferences in a little while, so I'm gonna wonder around the FOB a bit before I get tied to the phone.
I don't know how we ever fought a war before powerpoint and conference calls.

Department of Education? No national security there. Dump every hard disk on every machine in the agency out on some FOIA request about "what are the criteria for "Teacher of the Month?"
I don't think there's any national security in the Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, EPA, Department of Interior....
Open it up. Let people see how bureaucrats hold them in contempt and manipulate them. Let it be shown how politics trump facts. Let sunlight fall across the darkness.
