The Amazing Mystifying Stupidity of Meghan McCain

She's really rather special - even by ditzy zaftig politically-connected blonde chick standards - and her vapidity contains multitudes. Here is a bit of her rantings last night about Sanford's victory in SC:

None of you crazy, extremists scare me. I've been doing this since my gestation. Gay marriage will be legal everywhere in America very soon.
- Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) May 08, 2013

But guess what she was advising America to do back in 2009: Forgive Mark Sanford. Ah but see that was like then - this is totally 2013 and all uh, post-gestational and stuff.

Meanwhile she continued on with her tweet-trum...

@carolinemanzo I just can't right now. I am furious. You can lie and cheat and still get sent back to Washington!
- Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) May 8, 2013

And Iowahawk finally had enough of her blatherings.

@meghanmccain if it wasn't for politicians cheating on their wives, you wouldn't exist.
- David Burge (@iowahawkblog) May 8, 2013

Followed by:

What was the blast radius on that last tweet?
- David Burge (@iowahawkblog) May 8, 2013

*mic drop*

Aaron Worthing points out that Meggie Mac's struggles with English grammar and vocabulary (as well as basic facts and logic) are hardly new. Here is a snippet of Leon Wolf's epic review of her last book:

It is impossible to read Dirty, Sexy Politics and come away with the impression that you have read anything other than the completely unedited ramblings of an idiot. This being a professional website for which I have a great deal of respect, I searched for a more eloquent or gentle way to accurately phrase the previous sentence - but could not find one.

...The most obvious problem with Dirty, Sexy Politics is that grammatically, the book appears to be the work of a high school sophomore. To be more accurate, it appears to be the first draft of an essay written for a high school English class; the one turned in before the teacher makes all the pretty red marks in the margin that helpfully keep students from turning in final papers riddled with comma abuse, sentence fragments, and incorrect punctuation. Each subsequent page of this book contains one grisly crime against the English language after another.

Meghan McCain graduated from Columbia University with a BA in Art History in 2007. She registered as a Republican in 2008.

Air Force Chief of Sexual-Assault Prevention Arrested on Sexual Battery Charges

There's crashing and burning, screwing the pooch, shitting the bed, nuking the fridge, and raping the koala - and then there's what this guy did.

But then the Air Force's own sexual assault prevention brochure warns that looks can be deceiving.

Test: Feminist Complaint or Satire?

Here's just one to ponder:

2. Observation by a feminist musicologist concerning rape and sexual abuse themes in Beethoven's last symphony:

The point of recapitulation in the first movement of the Ninth is one of the most horrifying moments in music, as the carefully prepared cadence is frustrated, damming up energy which finally explodes in the throttling, murderous rage of a rapist incapable of attaining release.

Cheney on Benghazi

'They should have been ready before anything ever happened,' Cheney told MailOnline exclusively during a party in Georgetown celebrating the launch of a new book by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

'I mean, it's North Africa - Libya, where they've already had major problems,' Cheney said. 'You know that al-Qaeda is operating there, and you have some of the other al-Qaeda-affiliated groups there like Ansar al-Sharia and others.' .

'When we were there, on our watch, we were always ready on 9/11, on the anniversary,' he recalled. 'We always anticipated they were coming for us, especially in that part of the world.'

'I cannot understand why they weren't ready to go,' the former two-term vice president said of the Obama administration.

'You've got units in the Defense Department that are superb. They practice for this contingency. And they didn't have anybody in the area[.]'

The Great Dresden Bombing Lie

If you've ever read Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five, you've heard about what an atrocity the allied bombing of Dresden during WWII was. And the Left was denouncing it even before his book came out.

Well it was all lies.

The bombing of Dresden in February 1945 has passed into popular history as one of the atrocities of the second world war. It is one of those events that seemed to shift the moral ground. The "fire storm" that laid waste Dresden allowed the Nazis to claim the status of victims. Like Hiroshima, it became a symbol of the misuse of military power. And it trailed some chilling questions. Why Dresden? Was it an attempt to eradicate the best of German culture? How many died? Was it 100,000? Was it 200,000? Is it true that the British and the Amer-icans targeted refugees fleeing the city? Did low-flying Mustang fighters really strafe helpless civilians trying to shelter in parks?

Almost certainly not. As Taylor points out, we owe most of our ideas of the raids on Dresden to a handful of books, one of them by the "revisionist" historian David Irving. His account, The Destruction Of Dresden, was first published in 1963, long before he was discredited. Reasonably accurate accounts by German historians were largely ignored and most of the official information about the raids was buried by the communist regime which inherited Dresden in 1945 and was quite happy with western breast-beating over the "atrocity".

The actual number of people killed is now believed to be less than 25,000. And it turns out that the Soviets asked the Allies to bomb Dresden to keep reinforcements from getting to the Eastern front. Dresden was hardly an innocent, 'museum' city:

Dresden was also the site of one of the most important railway marshalling yards in eastern Germany. It was a nodal point on the network with hundreds of thousands of troops, guns and tanks being shunted through Dresden on their way to the eastern front. Politically, the city was solidly Nazi. Hitler's visits were met with wild enthusiasm. There was an SS barracks in the suburbs. Hundreds of Hitler's enemies had died on the blade of Dresden's electric-powered guillotine. One way or another, Dresden was a "legitimate" target for the allied bombers (if bombing of any city can be regarded as legitimate).

The Colorful Life of Antonia Larroux

She passed away last week in Bay St. Louis, MS and we may never see her like again.

Waffle House lost a loyal customer on April 30, 2013. Antonia W. "Toni" Larroux died after a battle with multiple illnesses: lupus, rickets, scurvy, kidney disease and feline leukemia. She had previously conquered polio as a child contributing to her unusually petite ankles and the nickname "polio legs" given to her by her ex-husband, Jean F. Larroux, Jr. It should not be difficult to imagine the multiple reasons for their divorce 35+ years ago. Two children resulted from that marriage: Hayden Hoffman and Jean F. Larroux, III. Due to multiple, anonymous Mother's Day cards which arrived each May, the children suspect there were other siblings but that has never been verified.

...Any sendoff for Toni would not be complete without mentioning her lifelong buddy Myrtle Jane Wingo Haas and her adopted daughters Liz & Laura. She considered Aaron Burrell to be a distant grandson (not distant enough) and had the ability with family pets to usher them toward heaven at an unrivaled pace. Her favorite activity was sipping hot tea on her back porch with friends seated around her porch ensemble from Dollar General (again, not kidding.) This will be sold to the highest bidder at her garage 'estate' sale. Any gifts in her honor should be made to the Hancock County Library Foundation (to the overdue book fund.)

44 The Authority of Published Authors.

I love books, at least books on subject I like, so I've always though Published Authors were like GODs.

There has always been something called 'vanity press', where you could pay someone to publish your book, and then you would try to sell them yourself. Those people were not gods. They were money grubbing frauds.

Even Published Authors who wrote something not interesting to me were still Published Authors because *someone* liked their stuff enough to pay for it. Then politics invaded the field where you could get published because you were somebody important.

So, now we have self published eBooks, and looking at some of the self published stuff, yes, it's good, good enough. So I'm thinking I could write a book. . .
Ya, sure, you betcha! At least the bar is low enough it most certainly wouldn't be the worst thing ever written (I hope)/

154 Good evening once again, my fair morons.  After the success of a purchase here last night, let's see if I can double that.

I recently published a children's novel called "My Teachers are Zombies!"

It's the nice story of three friends who discover their teacher is a zombie who is trying to make their brains bigger so as to eat them later (with a dash of pepper).

I would like to encourage people to at least read the sample provided on the Amazon page (available at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CKJ70AW) and if it catches your interest, please feel free to purchase it or gift it to a friend!

I double edited it as well, to avoid the common spelling and grammar mistakes that plague most first time writers (of course, mentioning that guarantees at least two errors will crop up in this message). I also made sure there was a bit of light foreshadowing, use of Chekov's gun, and lamp-shading. Additionally, it's a self-contained story, not a series, which appeals to me in an era of unnecessary trilogies and sequels.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

182 I too am a long-time Vonnegut hater. How he got to the slaughterhouse was, he was in the 106th Infantry, one of the few WWII units to be so cut up in battle that it was never reconstituted. They were green and on the front line of the North Shoulder the morning the Ardennes counter-offensive began, and surrendered like there was no tomorrow, which, for them, there wasn't.

The 99th, next in line, devolved into pockets of resistance and fell back slowly, as units of the 2nd moved up through their retreat. Right there, in the vicinity of Krinkelt and Rocherath on the Elsenborn Ridge, is where Germany lost the war.

Vonnegut was awfully touchy about that. He felt that he had the mark of cowardice on him, and was willing to construct a whole world-view in which his failure in war was not relevant. There is no dishonor in defeat, but to twist reality to make your own shortcoming seem less by comparison is the definition of despicability. Also, he signed his name with the symbol of a human anus.

That's what I think of him. Thank you.

190 What kind of vehicle is it? I've changed quite a lot of fuel pumps. Posted by: Diogenes' Lamp at May 08, 2013 10:52 PM (bb5+k) 2001 Ford Focus wagon. Posted by: Captain Whitebread, Designated Commenter at May 08, 2013 10:54 PM (5J54Q) I think i've done one of those some years ago. It's not terribly hard. Do you have any mechanical abilities? You pretty much siphon out all the gas you can, Jack the Vehicle up, put it on Jackstands, disconnect the wiring connectors, disconnect the fuel lines, (there will be at least two, and possibly three.) remove the bolts holding the straps on the fuel tank, and lower it to the ground. (It helps if you have a friend to help hold it up when you remove the straps. ) Now you need the car jacked up high enough to drag the fuel tank from beneath the car because you have to be able to get to the top of it easily. The Fuel pump is held in with a locking ring. You take a screwdriver and a hammer, and you bump the tabs on the ring so as to rotate the ring in a counterclockwise direction. It will rotate about 90 degrees, then it should release. You can then lift the fuel pump out of the tank. You can buy the entire assembly, (fuel pump and sending unit, with filter.) or sometimes you can buy just the pump itself. Sometimes you will discover that the piece of hose connecting the pump to the fuel line outlet has rotted and is leaking, and if that is the case, you can simply replace the hose and save yourself the cost of the pump. Reassembly is the reverse of dissassembly. Don't know if this helps or not.

My BMW 325? Two latches, lift the back seat base out, six screws, done. My RX-7? Open hatch, lift carpet, six screws, done. My friend's Buick? Jack up the car, drop gas tank, remove some godawful toolless fitting clamped with about 300 lb-feet made of soft metal and 18 hoses and part of the exhaust, then extract the pump.

He always wanted to write this big deal book about his war experiences, but when the time came, all he had left was bullshit.  By that time, we was written out.   Everything he could write he had already written.

Player Piano and Mother Night were actually pretty good novels, and Cat's Cradle and The Sirens of Titan, were both pretty funny.  But the rest is dreck.

The Wankel rotary engine  (Mazda)  had a lot of problems with the oil seals failing.

They did indeed have a lot of power output for their displacement, but fail of the seals, you could fry the engine real easy because you could lose most of your oil in no time.

I guy I used to work for had an old RX-7, and put that Teflon suspended crap in his oil periodically to keep the failing seals tight, because he was too cheap to have them replace.

Of course it could also work the other way, "I'll do this for you if you make my daughter a celebrity". . . and none of this is ever spoken aloud, never written down, but the language is well understood by all the players. Dealer mechanics *brutalize* the fucking engines, they have no concept and thing you can just fake it because you rebuilt V-8's for 10 years. Rotary engines are hand-finsihed and the tolerances are *nothing* like people are used to. People rebuild them in their garage with hand tools but dealers made grenades by the semi-load. You'd think they would've made their rotary engines for bigger vehicles. Posted by: soothsayer at May 08, 2013 11:23 PM (+oin+) No low-end torque, have not been very fuel efficient. You might say trucks aren't fuel efficient, it would be worse. They are *package* efficient, tons of power from a small package, but for typical daily driving they are not well-suited to the "traffic game." They do it fine but city mileage is teh suck. They're born to rev high, most people drive low-end. There are easier places to get 700 hp - just not from 1.3 liters displacement.

I have a feeling it is not going to work out as well as I had wished.

269 The rotary engine is just not made for the performance envelope that people face 99% of the time. But there's a reason they were banned or rulesed-out of so many classes of racing. Not only do they make more power than God intended, when you beat them like a red-headed step child, they hold up. Mazdatrix was founded by people who switched to Rotary engines for racing in the 70s - to save money, because the engines lasted twice as long (running at 10,000 rpm all day). But between poor maintenance and carbon buildup at low revs, especially older models, they didn't last on the street.

Less than my 412 hp pony car (I average 22.5, mostly highway but mostly with the top down). There was an RX-8 on the dyno when I put mine on, he developed a whopping 185 at the wheels IIRC (I put 336 hp to the wheels through the automatic trans). 'Course, I had much more displacement as well...but more power + better mileage+less maintenance?

285 BSA had the rights to the Wankel, and passed it on to Norton in the NVT scandal. From 1969 on, they were always just about to bring out the rotary motorcycle. In a particularly British turn of irony, the Norton rotary had its championship season, sweeping all before it, in 1991, thirteen years after the company ceased operation.

They ran total loss lubrication, kind of a three-stroke if you will, and made a sound something like a pre-Granatelli Novi.

322 Country Singer check out Marshall Ramsey's vote comment.  Here is an excerpt for Vicksburg.

"Vicksburg. Sigh, where do I start with this? You have a very nice candidate who used to own a brothel. You have an incumbent who is on the FBIÂ’s speed dial (allegedly) and then you have a legislator.  If they would just walk into a bar (at a casino, of course) it would remind me of the old joke.  Add in a couple more candidates and it is safe to say there will be a run-off in VÂ’burg, too.  WeÂ’ll see."

But an RX7 had about the same performance as a small-block V8, and used about as much gas. Compared to other high-performance engines, the rotary isn't all that bad on fuel. Compared to an economy 4-banger of the same displacement, it uses a lot.

Our fine would be $40, on the spot. Between three guys we had about $20. Under threat of arrest we pulled the back seat out and found about another dollar in change. The good thing about smallblock pushrod Chevy V-8's is that EVERYBODY makes parts for them, and you can make a lot of power for a little money, relatively speaking.

Yeah, I'm a Mustang guy, but I'll say that the Chevy small-block V-8 is the finest mass-produced V-8 motor ever invented, period. It's like the VW Bug of V-8 motors, easy to work on, easy to modify, and you can do so much with them.

Mexico ran out of money when building the highway to Ensenada, but they started at both ends, and a five mile stretch in the middle it just ended with a 4 inch drop off into dirt road then a big bump back to the highway. No marked lanes the whole way, although it was a 4 "lane" width.

We flew into San Pedro Sula, Honduras, with a passel of SCUBA gear and watched as everyone else slipped the "customs officers" some cash and get processed first. We thought it was hilarious. Anyway, it finally got to the point where we were the last people there keeping six officials from going home for the night....then they opened the bags and went "WTF is all this shit?!?!?!?" We patiently explained it all (in Spanish) -- that we weren't going to set up a clandestine chemical plant, and that it was perfectly normal for SCUBA enthusiasts to travel with odd specialized equipment. And they hurried us through and left.

It was worth every extra minute to see how a thoroughly corrupt government squirms to deal with the inevitable conflict between actual duties and personal gain.

I'm guilty of a sin. I used to think that my ignoring the machinations of government was a rational response; that by going about my life in an innocuous manner it inured me from their main meddlings. I just wanted to be left alone and thought they mostly wanted to leave me alone too. TFG and Bloomberg, among others, insist on proving me wrong.

Actually the droog reference is very apropo as Beethovens Ninth features considerably in Clockwork Orange .Indeed inspires him to indulge in a bit of the old rape and ultra violence. Kubricks movie about Napolean didnt happen and many a film critic said that CO was the Napolean movie he never made. Beethoven is also relevant as he composed many a ditty in honor of Napoleans rampage (and I suppose rape) of Europe. So that silly woman may have a point, but it wouldve better if she implied the Ninth was tainted by Kubrick or Napolean himself instead of going all AshleyJudd on us.

484 You know, her ramblings (especially where she calls other Republicans crazy extremists) reminds me a lot of her father.  THAT apple didn't fall far from the tree.

486 So, we bombed Dresden because Joseph Stalin asked us?  One of the world's most notorious murderer and tyrant?  Does no one see the problem with this?

487 I failed to guess the correct "Fake comment" on the which comments were written by feminists article. I assumed that the Beethoven quote was made-up due to its over the top bizarre rhetoric. Silly me. I underestimated the insanity of that mindset.

Subject: Social Security news so good it will make you giddy

[redacted silly name], as the deficit shrinks, the chances of Congress striking a "grand bargain" and cutting Social Security are fading.

At the same time, populist politicians, grassroots activists, and numbers-based wonks are lining up behind a new idea: expanding Social Security benefits.

The vast majority of Americans think Social Security benefits should be increased, and the wealthy should pay more in taxes to do it. Now, people in power are starting to agree.

Red and purple state senators like Mark Begich (D-AK) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) have introduced bills that would expand Social Security benefits by as much as $800 per recipient, per year. They accomplish this by changing the way benefits are calculated and by finally making millionaires and billionaires pay the same rate of Social Security taxes the rest of us pay.

What's more, respected analysts like Ezra Klein and the New America Foundation have directly confronted the long-time consensus in Washington, D.C., by making the case for expanding Social Security benefits.

More than 100,000 people have already signed a petition from Social Security Works endorsing Sen. Harkin's bill.

This is all just the beginning. The tide has turned, and now we are on offense.

Keep fighting,
Joan McCarter, Daily Kos
