Anthony Weiner: A Grower, a Shower, and an Utterly Worthless Congressman

You might know him for his cock-tweets to young girls and his current campaign for Mayor of New York but there are other less well known aspects to his prickitude as this devastating NYT profile lays out. Here are just the opening paragraphs:

When President Obama needed every Democrat in Congress to back his health care plan in 2009, Representative Anthony D. Weiner threatened behind the scenes to torpedo the package in favor of a more sweeping measure. He backed off after he was promised a bigger share of the spotlight during the highly watched debate.

The previous year, when advocates of immigration reform invited Mr. Weiner to a round-table discussion with business leaders and more senior New York City members of Congress, he demanded to turn it into a hearing, featuring himself in a gavel-wielding role. Rebuffed, he failed to show up.

In 12½ years in Congress, he sponsored and wrote only one bill that he steered to enactment: a measure pushed by a family friend who gave his campaigns tens of thousands of dollars in donations.

Quote of the Day

I don't have to listen to your phone calls to know what you're doing. If I know every single phone call you've made, I'm  able to determine every single person you talked to - I can get a pattern about your life that is very, very intrusive. And the real question here is what do they do with this information that they collect that does not have anything to do with al Qaeda? And we're gonna trust the President and the Vice President of the United States to do the right thing? Don't count me in on that.

  -- Joe Biden, May 2006

Well in Slow Joe's defense he may not even be aware of what the VP's office is up to these days.

How did a geeky douche who could write the above without a hint of irony ever get access to our national security secrets?

Meanwhile no one knows where Snowden's girlfriend is and it turns out she used to live in China and may already be in Hong Kong.

Heh:  "I have NO confidence whatsoever that some sort of gun registry doesn't already exist, in light of the NSA revelation, IRS revelation, AP wiretap revelation, etc." Don't be ridiculous. A gun registry would be in violation of federal law. Our law enforcers would never break the law.

Meanwhile in other news the NLRB is ignoring the law.

Completely Unsolicited Political Advice from Moe Lane

  • Don't appoint your gay adulterous lover to a key position in your state government.
  • Don't be in a position where you have evade wire transfer laws in order to pay off your hooker debts.
  • Don't go and get one woman pregnant while your wife is dying of cancer.
  • Don't send pictures of your penis to girls that you know only from the Internet.
  • Don't grope your staff in an election year where Jesus Christ would have difficulty winning a swing district on the Democratic ticket.
  • Don't dress up as a tiger and do. anything, really.

SWF Seeks Roommate, Must Be Into Walruses

No rent if you meet certain conditions:

Hello, I am looking for a lodger in my house. I have had a long and interesting life and have now chosen Brighton as a location for my retirement.
I have, over the last few months, been constructing a realistic walrus costume, which should fit most people of average proportions, and allow for full and easy movement in character. To take on the position as my lodger you must be prepared to wear the walrus suit for approximately two hours each day (in practice, this is not two hours every day - I merely state it here so you are able to have a clear idea of the workload). Whilst in the walrus costume you must be a walrus - there must be no speaking in a human voice, and any communication must entail making utterances in the voice of a walrus - I believe there are recordings available on the web - to me, the voice is the most natural thing I have ever heard.

The Modern Police State: Sweden Proposes 'Total' Ban on Bestiality

Sweden on Thursday proposed legislation that would completely outlaw bestiality, tightening current rules that only prohibit sex with animals that causes mental or physical harm.

...Until now, bestiality was illegal in Sweden only if it could be proven that the animal had been subjected to suffering.

Starting on January 1st, 2014, however, any sexual act with an animal will be punishable by a fine, a maximum prison sentence of two years, or both, even if the animal shows no sign of injury or suffering or is a very sexy walrus.

The Father's Day gun thread reminded me of the time I was probably 5 years old and helping my dad run his reloader.  We were depriming some cases; he'd put the case in the old Rock Chucker, and I'd pull the lever.  We had a pretty good rhythm going, right up until the time I pulled the lever a little too soon, trapped his thumb, and ran a de-capping pin straight through his thumbnail.

Now I know why parents say that God makes children adorable so you don't kill them when they do things like that....

I can arrange it if Tony would just visit my Washington apartment. Its almost as good as being in a San Francisco bathhouse.

Also, was just visiting my favorite site, the Huffpo and I was astounded at the main headline about MI6 spying on every member of the G20 in real time. I think Barky could learn a lesson from that.

I'll save you the huffpo clicks and let you have the raw piece from the Guardian:

I am impressed with the real-time 15 square meter screen mapping of all the conversations in a simple yet complex fashion. It only took 45 analysts to monitor each phone call or email in real time. That is "man" power well spent. We need that type of information to keep on top of the situation.

60 Rubio a disappointment? He's exactly what he always was, a populist politician from Flo-ree-da. A crazy place full of crazy people. Better than Charlie Crist, but not by much. A lesson in projecting our own beliefs on someone who spouts populist drivel. Rubio is looking our for Rubio's career. He may not realize just how bitter one faction of the Republican party is about this. I was amused by the anger on the NRO thread about Lizza's alleged remarks. The Republican party is about to implode, and Rubio and Graham really won't understand why. McCain and Biden are just giving each other reach arounds, they are such old dotards.

69 It's unlikely that a Dem-leaning purple state like Florida is going to give us an ultra-reliable rock-ribbed conservative. Charlie Crist is the definition of a soulless politician. He didn't change parties out of ideological conviction -- he has none. He changed parties because he looked at the polls and demographic trends of Florida. Crist is spineless, but not stupid. Rubio is, sadly, about the best we can expect from Florida.

I guess he'll have to console himself with his beautiful wife, charming children, and piles upon piles of money. Really though, bummer for Phil. I like the guy. Tiger was miles away from the lead (+13 or something). Merion Golf Course held up beautifully. The "small" course kicked the best players in the world asses. Nobody was below par.

84 I just read that AT&T is going to preload iPhones with alerts from the SCOAMT that we cant' turn off. I have an iPhone 4S and will upgrade when the new one comes out. WTF do they think they are doing? I might switch to TMobile but I don't know if they have iPhones. I got mine in October 2011 and have waited for my contract to be up, it was in May and now waiting for iPhone 5s or 6. Every time I have read anything on the internet today I've ended up enraged. 98 68 If Snowden was really turned, the play for his handlers would have been to tell him to STFU and keep him in place rather than all this leaky shit. True, but consider this. While Snowden is acting (assuming he is) the loose cannon role, various governments such as US and the UK are wasting time and media attention on issuing various rebuttals. If these distractions serve any greater purpose, it is not clear at present, but notice nobody is talking about things such as the China/Japanese island dispute issue openly now, are they? Even if there is no such greater purpose for Snowden's "plight" and loose tongue, at least the increased general feeling of distrust by Snowden's revelations of things already known but not openly discussed have taken attention off of China and onto the US. Again, only time will tell if there is some greater point/plot to all of this.

I dunno, the explanation makes him look like an idiot. Politicians don't usually like that much. Three possibilities:

(1) Someone got to him. That's what you're implying.

(2) It really was confusing, and now it's all straightened out.

(3) He really is an idiot.

And then the WaPo got stampeded into this, too. There's something wrong at the NSA, really wrong. But all this bullshit from Snowden is just that. There is nothing to be trusted about the Obama Regime. They are harvesting all kinds of information, developing connections between all their potential political foes. I think half of Congress is running scared thinking of all the dirt that the NSA may have on them. Most of them are probably guilty of either sexual indiscretions or illegal fund raising.

131 Most of us DGAF about Snowden, honestly... if he stays in the limelight it could only be as an act of self-preservation (his disappearance would raise suspsicions.) He's simply using his leaks to play the big powers against each other. The reality is that in such an interconnected world, without trust, secrets outed by a single man could plunge the world into war.

Whether Snowden is a traitor or not or somehow involved with the chicoms or whatever to me is of no interest. The ramifications of his actions are what is interesting. And his leaks, if proven true (as I believe they will be) will possibly end our technological age with a big crash.

Faith in internet privacy is disappearing and will be gone very soon. The effect that will have on openness, which the internet needs to keep expanding, might be profound and irreversible. There was a point at which a crankish sort such as myself could warn people about internet privacy and it would come across as simply crankishness. Now I can just say, NSA, Snowden.

That alone is interesting, even if Snowden's leaks are false.

Either he did it because he's a fool or he was at the end of his rope and did maybe the only courageous thing he'll ever do, who knows.

Either way, based on the leaked docs that he has so far, he was well aware that the great powers would become hungry for his blood. Could have just really liked Johnny Mnemonic.

177 I still don't get how the Wolfking Awesomefox thing isn't an obvious joke. Gabe must be exerting some serious reverse gaydar on the minds of many folk here.

Anyway, on to more important things. How do we justify this? The Boomer generation essentially tore the beating heart out of their culture because they were a bunch of coddled weenies and wanted things to be more 'just' and 'fair'.

There is no way to come out of this without more damage, I think, to our nation. Who is thinking constructively about the aftermath? It's obvious based on things like the Port Huron statement that the Boomer generation was not thinking clearly or practically about what could really work, but simply wanted to tear at the thing that offended them until all of the bad things were gone.

Before a single rifle is raised, there must be some serious thought and what amounts to a plan for what comes after. And just 'return to the Constitution' is not enough; Yes, that is where it starts, but there are a lot of statutes and other myriad things that must be dealt with and cannot be ignored by simply referring to the Constitution.

This is another way of saying, our own founders had their documents in order before the fighting started, not after. Let's do the same.

"SECRET Service spooks are disguising themselves as FARMERS to protect Barack Obama from terrorist threats at the G8 summit.
They have even bought a fleet of TRACTORS ahead of the US PresidentÂ’s arrival in Northern Ireland tomorrow for the two-day meeting."

Just another chapter in the ongoing saga, "Obama is a Pussy". Fer fux sake, even Jimmy Carter managed to face down a half drowned rabbit with little more than a dozen or so armed SS agents, and an oar....while King Putt had to cancel his "safari" in Africa because some hippo a mile or so away might give him the ol' stink eye, requiring armed snipers to put the animal down, and ruin some really great photo opportunities.

Did you 'Rons and 'Ettes know that Obumbles even has a food taster? He does. It was in the news a few weeks ago....not covered by the MFM, of course, as they were too busy tongue bathing his balls to notice.

201 This is another way of saying, our own founders had their documents in order before the fighting started, not after. Let's do the same. *** There were state governments prior to the war...but obviously no federal structure. In fact, it wasn't until years after the war that we got the Constitution. The core necessity, it seems to me, is to assemble the right people to work on what comes next. Of course since founding I don't the world has seen a brain trust comparable to what we had then. I think though as far as the most critical line item, you need a way to permanently deny those who take from the government being able to vote themselves more. It would certainly largely cure what ails us now.

Sure. An especially thorough absence. Just semantic games. It's like the "if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound" puzzle, which hinges on the fact that "sound" in that context has two meanings in English. It's really about pointing out bugs in our language -- it only pretends to be a meaningful discussion about anything but language.

The universal franchise is destroying us. There must be a way to restrict voting to the responsible and productive members of society.

Guaranteed universal income.  Give every American 18 and older $30,000 per year.  Then you impose a voter registration tax of $30,000 per year.  If you want to vote in any one year, you have to pay the tax in January.  This way you weed out the LIVs, who will happily take the government bennies, and ensure that the people voting are the ones who had to give up their government cheese and work to live.

Would it be kind of expensive?  Yes, but if the result was an electorate that actually respected hard work, paid attention to what was going on in Washington, and voted for responsible adults in office, then the payoff would be far greater.

Posted by: Colorado Alex at June 16, 2013 11:38 PM (lr3d7)

Sounds good in principle, but what happens if you pocket the thirty G's for three years running, and then pay the poll tax in a Presidential election year?

Honestly, I think it would be better if, in order to vote for any level of government, you had to show proof that in a three-year running average, you were a net contributor (taxes vs disbursements) to the budget of that level. A three-year running average would protect you to some extent against losing your vote because of a bad earnings year.

Ebola virus? No known cure, IIRC. Or simply put potassium cyanide in micro-capsules that will not dissolve until they reach the small intestine, several hours after ingestion.

For now, the "natural area" is BYOL.  It is also an area where individuals who are permitted to do so may carry weapons, but the easiest way to scare off most of the 2-legged fora would be to declaim love of Reagan or Goldwater - they'll scatter quickly.  If approached aggressively, the Ranger said to loudly proclaim "Patriarchy! Patriarchy! Patriarchy!", which should cause them to run.  If that doesn't work, he recommended having both bar and pumped liquid soap on hand.  He told us after that to just shoot 'em, because the crowds are getting stupid this time of year.  I'm not sure he was supplying legal advice.

Gee thanks guys but you assume there is enough technological infrastructure on the ground.  That the people have electricity and oh the excess cash to afford a computer.  Google I think assumes this will pay for itself by the sale of the Google specific antennas  - wonder how fast a bootleg black market will spring up to sell these antennas?  Then there is the sticky problem of such balloons transiting over countries that censor the Internet like the PRC.  I would bet the PRC would accuse of Google deploying spy balloons.

There's a ton of stuff going on, but it's just churn at this point. The BH knows I want to GTFO, but is imagining this will happen sometime next decade. Myself, I'm dreading the thought of moving -- but dreading more the thought of moving in my 60s, 'cause it won't be better. Her job situation is all weirded out, and she needs to get her head screwed on straight about it....which I can have only an indirect influence on.....in short, I'm trying to keep my head above water.

On the good side of things, she's actually conceding that there are nice things to say about various areas, and that there is more of interest than the SF Bay area and a hotel room in Greensboro, NC.

In the meantime, the local stadium is getting closer to doubling in cost and, of course, California.

I'm also concerned that I'm going to need a new career for my next job (being that SOX compliance hit the wall some years back and is now as useful as sorting caterpillars by touch), so I'm going to have to re-gear. I've had about six careers over the last 25 years, all named "accountant," (EDP systems implementation consultant, tax accountant, internal audit manager, Controller, EVP Operational Administration, SOX implementation consultant....and I'm probably leaving out a couple) so it's not really scary....so much as irritating -- because dollars will get you donuts the best career swerve here won't be the best career swerve there (e.g. Silicon Valley is hung up on increasingly abstruse revenue models and needs revenue accountants with Jesuit-level sophistry; Charlotte, NC needs accountants for banking). And, like I said, I'm getting old and it will really tick me off to do this twice.

524  Won't be with ONE MORE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE who sees the 2nd amendment as not a personal right:  remember, Heller was only decided by ONE VOTE.  That's why this current rash of people promising to vote dem next election is so infuriating.

PLUS, in between the passage of the law and any successful court challenge would be mucho time when all this would apply and be enforced.  Elections have consequences.

542 Are the NORKS brain dead, or just ... brain dead!? High-level talks? They want WHAT?!  We have a gang-sign for that kind of thinking, boyz. ... it ain't the ring finger. Young master Kim has got to get some new material, or advisors, or both. The momentum has dissipated from his yoyo, and he is either just plain stupid, or his advisors think that they can play the same old cards over and over, forever. Fallacious reasoning at it's finest. ... but that would be better than an IRS/Benghazi/NameIt scandal I guess.

544 Stop Oppression of Women in the Third World http://stopow.tumblr.com/ We are a new organization that is committed to stopping the oppression of women in the third world countries. Women in the Third World suffer considerably from the following problems: -daily domestic violence -brutal rape and torture -patriarchal culture without any moderation -abusive men -honor killings -forced poverty and are unable to free themselves since women are considered as property, not human beings, in many third world countries We are committed to trying to END this oppression. One of our goals is to create a political lobby or organization that lobbies for visas for single or divorced women from third world countries, so that we can bring them to the West and help them escape the abuse, rape, poverty, and violence of the patriarchal system in most third world countries. If you are interesting in helping out by donating, or web designing, or campaigning for us, please drop me a line at sowtw1987 AT hotmail DOT com

545 527 DAve, The 2d amendment being held hostage is how the McCain gang gets "permission" forf Amnesty & "donk lite." 30 million guys named Juan don't like the 2d amdt anyway & *if* they like guns they're alrady known to be quite content to just ignore the law anyway. I figure I can join them in their "noble law breaking ways." What I can't do is reward the GOP for rewarding them.

Back during the Clinton years he was ALWAYS willing to appear on camera defending Clinton,  even at one point standing out in the rain in order to be n TV.  I always figured when there was an opportunity of appearing on TV he was like one of thoseover-eager kids in a classroom:  "Pick me! Pick me!  "
