Insanity: Prosecution Attempts to Silence NRA T-shirt Boy with Gag Order; Reporter Covering Story Threatened with Arrest

Prosecutors were hoping to bar Jared, his father and his lawyer from sharing their story with the press, under the guise that their request would serve Jared's better interest, something Jared's father Allen Lardieri sees as ironic.
"It was for Jared's better interest is what I was told, which seems to be a bit odd to me," Lardieri said. "These are the same individuals that are trying to prosecute him, so as far as them knowing what is in his better interest, I have a lot of questions about that."

Update: According to reports the charges against Jared were dropped today.

Chinese Culture: Riot after Chinese teachers try to stop pupils cheating

The relatively small city of Zhongxiang in Hubei province has always performed suspiciously well in China's notoriously tough "gaokao" exams, each year winning a disproportionate number of places at the country's elite universities.
Last year, the city received a slap on the wrist from the province's Education department after it discovered 99 identical papers in one subject. Forty five examiners were "harshly criticized" for allowing cheats to prosper.

So this year, a new pilot scheme was introduced to strictly enforce the rules.

When students at the No. 3 high school in Zhongxiang arrived to sit their exams earlier this month, they were dismayed to find they would be supervised not by their own teachers, but by 54 external invigilators randomly drafted in from different schools across the county.

The invigilators wasted no time in using metal detectors to relieve students of their mobile phones and secret transmitters, some of them designed to look like pencil erasers.

Years ago when moving to a new house, a small bag of flour somehow fell out of the moving box and wedged its way under the bottom of the trunk and into the spare tire space. Weeks later, we started smelling a really awful smell. We searched and searched, but couldn't find the source. Finally, we lifted up the trunk floor cover thingy and BAM all those eggs that were in the flour had hatched and there were awful worm maggot monsters ALL OVER THE TRUNK . I made my husband go vacuum it out, but I swear the smell never fully went away. Bleeeeeech.

I learned today my 3 yo yellow lab is a moron (the good kind)!

She loves everybody, expecting they'll give her attention and love. However...

Today my wife took her for a long walk, then stopped in a park. There was a really nasty looking hobo there and Bailey wouldn't quit barking and lunging at him. All the time ignoring all the other folks around.

My wife came home and was freaked, said our dog was profiling people. I said sure, she saw a threat to you.

Sorry, the cops came by and shooed the hobo off. No hobo jerky for the Moron Horde. (And dammit I just bought more soy sauce to add to the worchestershire.)

150 #123: Occasionally, I'll buy a cheap roast and put it in the crock-pot with half a cup of soy sauce and half a cup of water. Once it's cooked, it goes in the refrigerator. After it's cold, I scrape off the layer of fat from the broth/aspic (as that particular fat has no flavor, anyway).

Then I'll tear big chunks off the roast to mix in with ramen. I also like to add some of that aspic along with a little vinegar and hot sauce.

Unknown time from fire to repair(at least 2 weeks) Freezer in basement needed to go and it was stinking BAD closed and the guys put it on a dolly and taped everything shut. We slammed the lid down, and hustled the freezer out into the back yard. It was a walk-out basement, praise the Lord.

I just realized how much I hate New England weather. We have about 4 months out of the year, April, May, September, and October that are kinda nice. The other 8 months are either too cold or too hot.

And humidity? Florida or even the Tennessee Valley ain't got much on us. Our summers here suck. Our winters here suck.

People say oh I just love the different theathons! Stick your seasonal weather up your ass.

358 When I first started growing roses I joined the American Rose Society. I'm still a member. One man used to write a monthly column for the longest time. It was the first thing I would read each month when the magazine came. He used both chemical and organic fertilizers and organic soil amendments. I had decided to dig up some of the asphalt in the back and make a garden back there. It took me a month or longer to pull out all of it. My brother said nothing would grow there. I listened to what organic materials I could use to improve the soil. I bought a 50 pound bag of fish meal. I hate fish, I can't stand the smell of it and won't eat it. I dumped the entire 50 pound bag in the back, worked it into the soil lightly. It smelled like fish for a day or so. Then it turned into a rotten trash bag smell and stunk up the entire street. Then maggots showed up. I have never smelled anything as awful as that. I went to garden shop ands they looked up what I should buy to kill the maggots. I later found out I was supposed to dig deep holes and put the fish meal in and cover it back up. I think I bought Diazinon to kill the maggots, which of course turned into flies.

378 So today I went to Frank, Ab., where a mountain fell on half the town ( well, about a third ) in 1903. In retrospect, digging all of the coal that the mountain is sitting on might not have been the best idea in the world ( fascinatingly enough, the shift in the mine at the time of the slide survived basically unharmed and dug themselves out in 18 hours ). There's a visitor center there now, and it's really well done. Interesting stuff. I may be getting slightly punch drunk stuck for a week and a half in a small (250 ish ppl ) town on the Ab. prairie though. Looking at the slide through the big panoramic window, one of the guides came up to me and asked if I had any questions about how it went down. " Yea ", I said, " where was the boat Francis Scott Key was in anchored all night?" The guide was confused, so I said, "never mind, just a joke", but I did find the whole place worth an hour or so of my time. Then I went to Sparwood, B.C. and looked at the world's largest truck. It was big.

The Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology is well worth a visit. Not some fusty old museum full of fossil fragments in oak cabinets; it actually gives one some pretty good insight into what the place was like when dinosaurs roamed the shores of the inland seaway.

And a 20-minute drive the other way down the canyon, you can go to the bar at the Wayne Hotel. Nice little watering hole, too.

Drum is only about 50 miles from my home. If I weren't leaving on a road trip myself tomorrow, I'd love to have you and Dave stop by for a visit.

The scent takes me back to my childhood... remarkble, really, how evocative scent can be. It seems to me that it is the sense tied most strongly to memory. o.o Sights are wonderful... sounds are incredible... but scent is so... I dunno, visceral.

omg, it was something I randomly read on teh interwebs, after searching relentlessly for "how to get rid of flies." I got one basil plant and it reduced the flies in my whole building by a LOT. And, except for one little asshole fly the other day who clearly did not read the memo, completely off my patio. srsly, if you have a fly problem, go buy some basil plants, it's like a fuckin' miracle.

To keep bad smells at bay, I have an 8 gallon trash can with lid in the kitchen. It's about half the size of most folks trash cans. Family & guests think it's weird to have such a small trash can, but that's all the trash I want in my house at any given time. When it gets full, it gets emptied. Sometimes it gets emptied more than once a day. I don't care, I just don't want a huge hulking can of stinky garbage in my house all day long. Better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

Just proto-meat, you know, like eggs. And meat pus, you know, milk. But not meat. Well, except for bacon at my mom's. And maybe some gyros if we went to the Greek Islands. And turkey at Thanksgiving, of course. And some fish, but "fish isn't meat." Other than that, strictly vegetarian. There are still times I go without meat. Sometimes I have whole meals without meat. 568 worst smell..... The XXXXXXXXXX dairies hay fields. Back in the early 80's they let the run off from the Dairy go into a man made pond. They may have even dumped the manure into the ponds as well after the cleaned out the pens. They then pumped out their irrigation water out of that pond. They all had hand lines, the water out of the sprinklers was green with the sun behind it. Nobody want to change pipes for them. They may have had to pay more to deal with shitty handlines.....

I haved used a produced called " Natures Miracle"for about 20 years through house breaking about 6 dogs and potty training 3 kids. It has even removed the smell of vomit from my car on more than one occasion and I live in Texas and have the same car since my kids have been born.

693 Worst smell? Back in high school my stepdad decided that our bare lawn needed to be fertilized, so he had a couple truck loads of chicken shit dumped on it. It was a hot and wet summer that year. Did I mention that we didn't have air conditioning? No central air, no window units, in Richmond, VA. Best smell? Our local Kroger 20 years ago had a Cinnebon inside the front door. Oh god, was that the worst thing to smell when you are grocery shopping because you just had to buy some.

718 The smell of baking bread in Turkey when I was a young soldier. We were in the middle of nowhere, near the (then) Soviet border for reasons not told to us. These old ladies made it for us using these ancient outdoor stone kilns. The crust was hard as a rock but when you broke it open the bread was soft and delicate and filling. I can remember that smell to this day. Roasted sesame, I think.

i have a defective one now. hes got fur. a whole litter of Hairless ones with one tiny white fuzzball. He Charmed Grim and hes daddy's little boy now. But Damn I miss Tini. She died just before christmas, of Lymphoma she had pretty seriously for a year.

815 R-Studio comes through again. C: drive on old Core 2 Duo (still cannot get used to saying that) system failed to boot yesterday for client, although it did get far enough to offer recovery options. But none produced any results after a few hours and I was called in. If I'd only been there a day earlier I would have been delivering the new machine and just peeled off all the old date before the drive crapped out. Booting a utility disc revealed a supposedly blank drive. Not even a partition.

Brought the old machine home, pulled that drive and put it in the USB 3.0 docking station. Sicced R-Studio on it. It's recovered about 40 GB of files already. All I really want is the PST file with the three days of email since the last backup.

If you need to do data recovery with any frequency, R-Studio gets my recommendation.

834 Oh, I'm not a coffe fan by any stretch. Although Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald is a masterpiece, even with coffee flavor in it. If I'm going the degenerate route for breakfast, it's usually after an overnight shift and I'm tossing back a shot--often whiskey, but I've done Fire Water or even straight gin before if I just wanted the numbing effect to get to sleep.
