The George Zimmerman Reenactment
Here DMartyr at the Jawa Report does a service to the blogosphere and puts together pertinent videos and diagrams in the Martin case for you to watch and judge for yourself.
This is Zimmerman reenacting for the police his actions on the night of the shooting. Note that this is less than 24 hours after the shooting and his account has never varied from what he told the police that night.
His description is compelling and after watching this I simply cannot comprehend how a prosecutor could bring a case against him in good faith much less a murder charge.
Another thing that become clear from the video and diagrams is that is a relatively compact neighborhood and everything took place in a small area. So Trayvon Martin must have gone home first and then returned to confront Zimmerman.
Go here to see it all.
The Strange Case Of Paula Deen
So as I understand it Paula Deen admitted at a deposition that she has used the N-word during the past 30 years and so she's been branded a racist and is being treated like a carrier of race crime who might infect anyone she comes too close to. She's been fired by the Food Channel and nearly all of her sponsors. Even though her next cookbook is already #1 on Amazon just through pre-sales her publisher just dropped her - essentially throwing away millions of dollars of sales.
I've never watched her show or followed her but this just seems...well insane. Often when you see a shunning cascade of someone over what seems to be a minor offense it's because they're a nasty person and people are just using the incident as an excuse to get rid of them. But as best I can tell this isn't the case with Deen. Charlotte Hays at NRO says Deen's biggest crime is being Paula Deen, a large white Southern woman who violates all the norms of the elite:
Paula Deen isn't really on trial for using the N-word. She's on trial for the crime of being Paula Deen, a woman who cooks with lard (yum!), shows up for the Today Show wreathed in tears and garbed in an inappropriately girlish hue of pink, and says unfortunate things such as "I is who I is."
And Bill Burr weighs in on the whole Deen affair.
Glenn Greenwald, the First Amendment, and Espionage
Before taking the job in Hawaii, Mr. Snowden was in contact with people who would later help arrange the publication of the material he purloined. Two of these individuals, filmmaker Laura Poitras and Guardian blogger Glenn Greenwald, were on the Board of the Freedom of the Press Foundation that, among other things, funds WikiLeaks. In January 2013, according to the Washington Post, Mr. Snowden requested that Ms. Poitras get an encryption key for Skype so that they could have a secure channel over which to communicate.
In February, he made a similar request to Mr. Greenwald, providing him with a step-by-step video on how to set up encrypted communications.
So, before Mr. Snowden proceeded with his NSA penetration in March 2013 through his Booz Allen Hamilton job, he had assistance, either wittingly or unwittingly, in arranging the secure channel of encrypted communications that he would use to facilitate the publication of classified communications intelligence.
If Greenwald was talking with Snowden and helped setup encrypted channels before he joined Booz Allen in order for Snowden to pass secrets back to him, why wouldn't he be considered a co-conspirator? Is the title 'journalist' a license to run your own spy rings against the government and publish whatever you can uncover?
Jimmy Carter: Christianity Mistreats Women as Much as Islam
In citing more inequalities for women around the globe, Carter said that, in Saudi Arabia, women are not permitted to drive or vote; that, in some cultures, girls are forced to marry before their tenth birthdays; and that, in the United States, women are paid about 70 percent of what men earn for the same work.
"The point is that the voices demanding these circumstances change are few and far between," Carter said.
Oh Jimmy haven't you done enough for one lifetime.

Because that might upset local Muslims.
In a statement posted on the EDL's Twitter feed, the group said: 'Tommy Robinson & Kev Caroll arrested for obstructing the police and carted off.' Scotland Yard yesterday said it was imposing conditions due to fears that both the march and gathering would 'result in serious public disorder and serious disruption to the life of the community' and a breach of the conditions would be a criminal offence.
Also Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer have banned from entering Britain because this might upset local Muslims.
Taylor Swift: Fornicating Whore
The Westboro Church finally gets around to heterosexual sin:
Yes, that's right: THE WHORISH FACE OF DOOMED AMERICA, the pop-country star formerly known as Taylor Swift, has been guilty of "hopping from one young man to the next and strutting across the world stage like a proud whore," according to the WBC press release.

The Amazing Falling Bead Experiment
Granted it was a heart attack but it sure couldn't have helped anyone's snake fear.
A German snake expert died after being bitten multiple times by a viper during a presentation aimed at helping people ease their fears of the scaly reptiles. Dieter Zorn, a 53-year-old herpetologist, died Tuesday evening of a heart attack minutes after he was bitten by an Aspic viper, according to Germany's English-language newspaper The Local.

Not looking forward to the riots, and given the weirdness of Florida juries, anything's possible, but I can't see in a sane world how any reasonable person finds Zimmerman guilty of 2nd degree murder under those circumstances.

Savannah’s celebrity chef has been lynched — figuratively and publicly in the court of public opinion, and without a full and fair accounting of the facts. Why? Mostly because this 66-year-old woman who impressively built an empire from scratch said “no” to the equivalent of a shakedown.
When Deen refused to pay $1.25 million in hush money last year to a former employee of her brother’s restaurant — a white woman who claimed, among other things, that Deen’s brother was guilty of racial discrimination — the lynch mob began forming.
“Exposure of the racist and sexist culture of her corporate and personal life is going to permanently, and irreparably, damage the value of the brand,” Savannah attorney S. Wesley Woolf warned in a Jan. 31, 2012, demand letter to Deen’s lawyer. He stated that “if we are unable to settle, the Complaint will not be quietly filed. I am making arrangements for a press conference on the day of the filing. I have identified the journalist for the New York Times who covers civil rights matters and he will be provided a pre-filing exclusive. A nationwide press release will be issued to the major networks, newspapers, newsmagazines and news websites across the country.”
And finally, the closer: “I hope that upon full and deliberate consideration of this offer, (your clients) will come to understand that the small price they quietly pay and that my client quietly accepts will allow Paula Deen a chance to salvage a brand that can continue to have value.”
Woolf was a hangman of his word. Except for one thing. The Times didnÂ’t break the June 19 story about Deen using the N-word. The National Enquirer did. Still, the illusion of the First Lady of Southern Cooking as an unreconstructed bigot spread faster than grease on a hot griddle.
Today, the celebrity chef that Forbes said earned $18 million in 2012 is being hung out to dry financially. To add insult to injury, the woman behind the lawsuit, Lisa T. Jackson, admitted that she never heard Deen make a racist remark. Or, do anything discriminatory. But when you’ve threatened to inflict “permanent” harm on someone, facts don’t matter. It’s about whipping a mob into a frenzy.

32 The diagram that shows the events of the Martin shooting are pretty damning of the prosecution case, and the race hustlers. The prosecutors and the family are trying to make out that Trayvon Martin was a terrified child, hunted down and murdered in cold blood by a white hispanic. The diagram clearly shows that if Mr. Martin, who towered over Mr. Zimmerman, was afraid, he could have ran into his father's home, where he already was, and called the authorities on the "crazy ass cr@cker" he was talking to his girlfriend about. Instead, in sight of the safety of his own home, he doubles back, in the rain, to beat the crap out of Zimmerman, who is then forced into an act of self defense to save his life.
And yet some will claim that since Zimmerman got out of his car he was seeking a confrontation.

He says that holding the beaker up higher makes the arc higher because the beads are going faster. I say that's because there's a column of beads supporting the arc with a more powerful ground-hitting backwave.
I figure I'm right, because there is visibly no arc until the things hit the ground. Easy to test -- let the beads down from a really high balcony, and see if you get an arc before anything touches ground. Bet you don't.

If you do not have a humidor, smoke it or protect it (depending on your climate; if you're in Louisiana, for example, do not worry). My humidor is a 48Qt Igloo cooler with a couple of humidification devices I got free with a cigar order. But some florists' "wet foam" in some sort of enclosure would do fine.
I knew the Macanudo would be good.
Macanudo is really consistent, great construction. They often lack that last little bit of character, but I have not tried the new Maduros, and the Vintage are amazing.
I'm curious about this one. La Gloria Cubana Serie R.
Good stuff. But almost all La Glorias are much better if you can forget about them in your Igloo humidor for at least a year; they tend to be a bit raw when first purchased. (um, did I mention that cigars age? They do.)

I finally got an opportunity to poke around here today, and just added the comments below to the Sanderson post from earlier today. I'm cross-commenting here for those who might be interested.
Sanderson is an *extremely* prolific writer. He's got two YA novels out this year, one short novel (The Emperor's Soul) published at the start of the year, and the sequel to The Way of Kings due out this Fall. I think I've read pretty much all of his adult novels. They're all tied together in a shared universe called "The Cosmere". They all take place on different worlds, but they all have certain rough rules that work across all of the settings. It's worth noting that the magic systems are *not* among the shared items. There's an individual named "Hoid" that's popped up in all of his Cosmere books, and Sanderson has confirmed that it's the same character. How and why he's turning up in multiple books on completely different worlds is still unknown (he's the missing fool in "The Emperor's Soul").
Sanderson's adult novel settings are -
Mistborn - His breakout trilogy. A sequel set a few hundred years later entitled "Alloy of Law" was published last year. In the sequel, technology has (amazingly enough in a Fantasy setting) advanced right along, with guns, trains, and a combination of the Wild West and Victorian England. Alloy of Law was supposed to be a stand-alone book, but will apparently get a sequel of its own, Shadow of Self. Alloy is meant as a bridge novel to a new trilogy set in the Mistborn world after time has advanced to bring the world's technology up to more or less modern standards.
Elantris - One novel so far, although he's apparently working on a sequel. Probably my least favorite of his novels. His short novel, "The Emperor's Soul", is apparently set on a different part of the same world as Elantris. Unlike Elantris, I really like The Emperor's Soul.
Warbreaker - One novel so far, but with a definite sequel hook at the end. This novel is available for free on Sanderson's website. I personally loved it, but I've no idea when he's getting back to it.
The Way of Kings - Part 1 of a planned series of 10 novels, with a world that's unusual in just how alien it is (Fantasy settings generally stick with an Earth-like environment). As noted above, there are multiple threads running through this novel, with multiple viewpoint characters. And Bad Things(tm) are about to start happening. Novel #2, Words of Radiance, is due out this Fall.
He's also got a few YA novels/series. The Rithmatist is a just released YA novel that involves a magic system revolving around chalk art. Steelheart is a soon to be released (I think) YA novel about superheroes gone bad. Alcatraz is a series of YA novels, but unfortunately I don't know anything about them. I think Steelheart is supposed to be part of the Cosmere, but the other YA novels are separate.

Oh. Well, now you're doing a taste test, so go for it.
If you decide not to, and your local humidity is below 50%, lightly moisten a paper towel and stick it in the bag if the cigar is wrapped, or in an outer bag, not touching the cigar, if it is not.

Florida. I guess I should mention, in case you're considering just leaving it outside, that there's some high temperature at which some sort of worm that likes to lay its eggs in tobacco leaves, hatches. People in some climates get really good at spotting the characteristic holes in their cigars. So better to keep them inside, and give them some humidity.

Crowd seemed smaller that recent gun shows. Firearms availability and prices were better than a few months ago, but not back to pre-election levels. Ammunition in most calibers was available, except for .22LR. Better selection of reloading components than earlier in the year, but limited powder types available, in particular rifle powders. Seemed to be plenty of pistol power.

Actually, they are just a bunch of lawyers trying to provoke people into something they can sue them for, and then rake in the bucks. IIRC, Fred Phelps requires all his children and grandchildren to go to law school, and if they don't, they have to marry a lawyer. It's just another shakedown scam, along the lines of race hustling, only this one is tax-exempt, mostly on the say-so of Phelps.
And they are going to burn in hell, so they have that going for them, too.

Zimmerman going to jail? Not likely, but what he has gone through was no fault of his whatsoever. And he is going to have to sue to get any satisfaction.

I am determined, among my many habits, quirks, and hobbies left undone to begin having tea ala Downton Abbey on a regular basis. I am almost ready, with stuff arriving momentarily or maybe weeks from now on the tea ship from the UK. Reading on how to brew the perfect cup in teapot, as I mostly use ye olde teabag. Directions:Warm teapot with hot water, pour boiling water (not too boiling! Not over milk! Over milk if you want milk!ack) over measured tea in warmed pot. Steep 2 min or directed. Filter through strainer into china cup. Add sugar or booze (ok, added that last part). I have even ordered sugar cubes and a tong (not to be confused with bong, boys). Ok, wunderbar. Directions shrill not to leave too long or bitterness and suicide result. Ok.
So: along with the milk/not milk in cup question: "If you leave it too long in pot, but cannot serve all the tea, huh?" Won't that result in the dreaded bitterness? Thank goodness I have not ordered a "cosie" thing as what is the point? This question does not need to be answered as if I start making cosies I will know the camp is not far off in my future in one way or 'nuther.
I suppose I have to be exact, children, which I am not tres good at doing as it might require patience and math and measure. But if I want two cups, make two cups. then the one left in pot will become bitter and suicidal. What to do? I am thinking of unorthodox measures, for more than one person in my busy social calendar, of just brewing in quart measuring cup for allotted time and pouring through filter in fancym warmed teapot and, walla! Won't have to sweat the small stuff #ChristyistryingnottothinkaboutBarky&WWIII

Just pour in one cup of water, but only let it steep about 1/3 of the prescribed time. Then pour your tea and enjoy it. When you're done, pour in the other cup of water and let it steep for maybe 2/3 of the prescribed time, the leaves having given up some of their essence by now, pour.

No wondering here. As I have noted repeatedly before, the GOP is making a huge mistake if it views "Hispanics" as comprising any sort of a monolithic entity. They are not. There are huge internal schisms.
Where I live, Hispanics are absolutely overwhelmingly likely to be Mexican. Which is also pretty much the case now in most of the country.
Their worldview is pretty simple. If you're not Mexican, you don't count. If you're Mexican, you might or might not count, depending on where you're from. (Do *not* get anywhere near, say, a weekend night dustup between Sinaloa and Michoacan. I thought it had rained in the parking lot. It had not. It was human blood. Puddles of it. Everywhere.)
I hear people talking up Ted Cruz to "appeal to the Hispanic vote". Bullshit. Sorry. I am a massive Ted-head, but Cruz is of Cuban descent. A Mexican does not give a shit about a Cuban.
Zimmerman's "Hispanic" side is Peruvian. There just are not that many Peruvian "Hispanics" in this country. Mostly it's Mexicans. And a Mexican does not give a shit about a Peruvian.
Better start studying up on this shit. This is the country we live in now. Balkanized as all get out. With most of it not liking the rest of it. In fact, really, African Americans are close to being the *only* close to overwhelmingly politically unified ethnic bloc there is.

Just pour in one cup of water, but only let it steep about 1/3 of the prescribed time. Then pour your tea and enjoy it. When you're done, pour in the other cup of water and let it steep for maybe 2/3 of the prescribed time, the leaves having given up some of their essence by now, pour.

Thank you! This makes sense. Somehow I missed how to do this growing up, as the tea just appeared like a miracle in my cup.To balance this new habit I am also drinking wine (husband says this is not new). No doubt this will be a passing phase, like Rubio, and I will go back to the olde microwave teabag and the fancy-pants stuff will gather dust.
One of my addictions is porcelain and I figured I need to start using this stuff before the fireball or meteor hit (or camps). Sadly, in 2004, better known as the Year of Frequent Hurricane evacuations, I brought some of my grandmother's china and crystal but few clothes. Husband said we would eat our MRE nude but with class in our moldy FEMA tent.

Years ago, when I was about eighteen (a year older than Trayvon Martin), I was in my car, driving through my hometown, and noticed I was being followed. At first I thought it was a cop but as he came up closer behind me, I noticed he was a shaggy-looking guy driving a piece of crap car. Unmarked police cars are rarely rundown-looking Datsun compacts. I drove down a one-way street and stopped, stopping him behind me. I got out and started walking towards his car, determined to ask who he was and what the hell he thought he was doing. I was unarmed. He backed up in a hurry, turned around in a driveway, and drove off. Found out later he was the very jealous ex-husband of a (slightly older) woman I was dating at the time. Never met the guy, didn't know what he looked like, don't know what he thought would happen when he caught up to me. I don't remember being particularly frightened. I do remember being highly pissed off.
My point? Up to the point Martin started beating Zimmerman's head against the pavement and threatening his life, Martin was doing what I'm guessing a few of us would've done: circled back and confronted the asshole who was following us home. That Martin sold drugs and broke into lockers at school and was possibly one of the young black males breaking into neighborhood homes is beside the point. Martin lived in that neighborhood. He had a right and a reason to be where he was. There is, to my knowledge, no evidence Martin was doing anything illegal when Zimmerman started following him.
Zimmerman made the wrong move as soon as he stepped out his car. He knew Martin might still be in the area, and given that Martin had circled him earlier to size him up, knew there was a probability Martin had not run away. Again: if you, a capable adult, were being followed on your way home, wouldn't you be at least tempted to find out who the hell it was and what the hell they wanted?
Zimmerman supporters are trying to make him into a hero of some sort. He wasn't. He made horrendous errors in judgement. Martin supporters are trying to make him into a martyr. He wasn't. He was an impulsive, drug-using, locker-stealing 17-year-old ne'er do well who ended up dead because he thought the creepy little cracker following him home posed no physical threat. The combined stupidity of both Martin and Zimmerman escalated to the point of life-and-death violence and the police arrived too late to stop it. As a result, a 17-year-old kid is dead. I don't give a damn how tall he was, or how much he towered over Zimmerman. He was still just a kid, shot to death by a member of the local Neighborhood Watch.
It wasn't a clean shoot.

Many of us thought EVH was the nicest guy based on his public persona from the '70s through the '90s. But I've now come to the conclusion that he is a phony of epic proportions. Just the way he treated Michael Anthony, who is truly one of the nicest guys in rock, is enough to make you hate EVH.

My problem is this notion of the use of race as a grievance category. Is race a positive or negative identification? In the case of a lot of black Americans, it is purely negative - and only positive in its negativity (i.e. its bad but not worse than whatever.)
Things like Black History Month are not a problem for blacks and a great; it lets them know (if it is honest) the good stuff about being black. But the reality is it is foisted on whites (and Jews and Asians and etc.) Because it's not enough that blacks should know a positive identity; no, black history month is not for them. It is for the ignorant and evil other. I think Morgan Freeman said something to the effect of wanting to get rid of it. He knows it's not there to help black people understand their history; those who need it (probably people like Jeantel) don't care anyway, and to make matters worse there is evidence that in some programs they have falsified information (like claiming a black man invented the elevator when in fact the black inventor was just one of many inventors who came up with the idea and patented something, but whose patent did not ultimately lead to the elevators we use today.)
There is a necessity for blacks to forge a positive identity - which they were in the process of doing prior to Democratium, or become something like a doctor where race is a minor factor.

I worked for 5 months where the only station that came in most areas was country. I could tolerate the Swift songs. I could tolerate a few others. I own a bunch of large screwdrivers but am not a burglar. Yet for a teenager with no apparent mechanical aptitude, no visible interest in fixing cars or in carpentry, a large screwdriver *is* an awfully odd thing to be carrying around, wouldn't you say?
By the way, the courts agree on that, and certain common tools can and do get parsed as "burglary tools" depending on who is carrying them and whether or not they have a sensible explanation for their doing so.

Won't have to sweat the small stuff #ChristyistryingnottothinkaboutBarkyWWIII
Posted by: ChristyBlinky, Redneck Queen at June 30, 2013 10:34 PM (baL2B)
I enjoy a pot of tea almost every day. The bitterness is about the order that things extract from the tea leaves -- first, you get "nose", then you get "body", then you get "bitter". So you want to steep long enough to get just the first two.
Once the leaves are out of the water, your tea goes bad through evaporation -- first, goes "nose", next goes "body". So an old pot will lose all the delightful aromas and nuances that makes a cuppa so pleasant.
If you want to use extra hot tea for something, don't leave it around to evaporate -- pour it over ice so it stops evaporating and feed it to someone later who likes iced tea (like the BH).

I don't know, I think the shakedown in the Paula Deen case was in retrospect a little dumb. So, you now have cost the woman you are trying to get a couple million dollars from millions and millions of dollars, basically ended her livelihood, doesn't that make it slightly more difficult to get a large sum out of her?
Yeah, I know, probably not, since juries often try to get large sums of money out of people with not very much money to cough up too.
By the way, I wasn't particularly dissing Taylor Swift, to be honest I did think she was one of the young celebrities who was into that celibacy thing. Plus I don't actually know how old she is, I didn't think she was even 21 yet. Shows how little I know about her really.

I watched the reenactment at the link that Zimmerman voluntarily performed for the police. Yes, Martin committed a violent crime when he assaulted Zimmerman. Zimmerman was correct, at that point, to protect his own life. He was clearly in imminent danger. My point is that Zimmerman is a complete dumbass who put himself in that situation.
Zimmerman will possibly/probably be acquitted (as he should be) for murder. Idiocy isn't a crime. That said, stop making the guy out to be blameless for the situation he now finds himself in. By Zimmerman's own account, Martin started 'acting suspiciously' when he noticed Zimmerman tracking him. I'd react, too. So would any of you.
Oh, and yeah, in case you forgot: Martin was 17 years old, on his way home from the convenience store until his life intersected with Zimmerman. So those of you giving me shit? I'm not playing devil's advocate to stir anyone up. I'm pointing out what I see as the truth of it, without all of the racial hype and controversy. Too bad we can't get Martin's version of events without using a Ouja board.

Oh believe me, after college I could never be a White Supremacist. It's not because it isn't awesome to be Albionic. But because I ran into examples of white people so unfuriatingly self hating and horrible that I could never really be pro-white without making huge qualifications which would essentially make it no longer really about race.
For instance, white people are cool as long as they are not liberals. White liberals I hope to God are a subrace of their own -- but probably not. I blame my own race for not exterminating our own stupid, but instead slaughtering millions of our good young men (and women.)
Why couldn't you abort Karl Marx, instead of 50 million kids? Adorno could have been a victim of violence; Gramsci, of disease. All of the purveyors of Faustian Stupid could have had untimely deaths by the thugs that instead murdered Christians and Jews.
Honestly, I think based on the crimes we've committed against ourselves (the final one being abortion and liberalism) we've done our penance; everyone is even and lets start over.
If I run for office that will be my explanation and it will be a very short run but whatever.

To be fair, it is easier to watch the neighborhood if you're slinking around, constantly hiding, out of a gripping fear of a misconstrued confrontation. Best to call in the professionals if you even thought someone spotted you spotting them. This includes squirrels, foxes, the occasional vole and obviously free range alligators.
911: Yes?
Watch: ... I think it saw me.
911: What?
Watch: There was a squirrel. It saw me. Holding position until further orders.

FiremanÂ’s Prayer
When I am called to duty, God
whenever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age.
Help me to embrace a little child
Before itÂ’s too late,
Or some older person
from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling
and give the best in me,
To guard my neighbor
And protect his property.
And if according to Your will
I have to lose my life,
Please bless with Your protecting hand
My children and my wife

Well the 80's or earlier station likes their claim being 52 minutes of music every hour something the other station can't do. Too bad so much of it is the exact same stuff the other station plays. The other one is the demon spawn of I Heart Radio which means that the DJ's are not local at all. In fact the evening DJ on it also does the afternoon DJing of the rock station about an hour north. The thing is I wished I got that station here because they actually do play some current rock.

What was Zimmerman's poor judgment exactly? Calling the cops to report the suspicious person roaming around townhouses in the rain who ran from him for no apparent reason? Or to go back to his car to wait for the police when Trayvon decided to attack him? I guess Zimmerman could have ignored his duties as a member of the Neighborhood Watch and go back to his place and cower under the covers of his bed. I also guess Trayvon could've went back into the townhouse from which he left and never confronted Zimmerman. But you seem to have less of a problem with a teenager punching a member of the Neighborhood Watch for simply doing his job than you do Zimmerman actually doing the job he volunteered to do.
In all the uninformed, idiotic comments that you've posted on this case, you still can't persuasively explain what Zimmerman should have done in that situation. As a member of the Neighborhood Watch of a neighborhood that had experienced multiple burglaries, he calls the cops then tries to go back to his car to wait for them. That's it.
It's lousy attitudes like yours that make people not want to help others. People like you and Trayvon are part of the problem, not people like Zimmerman.

Yeah, see -- that's exactly where you go off the rails. Try "the next time you, presumably a grown adult male, start *lawfully* following a teenager through the neighborhood *with the best of moral intentions, to protect your community* *and in an ethical manner -- i.e. merely observing rather than confronting* and that kid ends up dead....then, yeah, I'd be sad.
And I might have dreams where this cup might have been taken from me -- some lightning bolt or meteor at precisely the right time, perhaps.
But when the guy I thought was gone popped up and tried to kill me, there wasn't time for that.

Its only when you have no sense of self identity yourself, that you will fall back onto your racial subgroup.

While most accounts of the Firemen’s Prayer conclude with Author Unknown, the world renowned poem was written by Firefighter A.W. “Smokey” Linn. As a young firefighter in 1958 Linn and his crew responded to a fire in which three children were trapped behind security bars and died in the fire.
His granddaughter, Penny McGlachlin said that back then there were no grief counselors to help the firefighters. Penny believes this was an actual prayer from him, to god for the sake of his own family, the other fireman, and the families of the children.

Actually, yeah, I was hassled by adults as a 17 year old, usually when I was up to teenager shenanigans but often for no reason because the adults wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything that I shouldn't have been doing. Not once did I or my friends turn the encounter into a physical assault, either by us or the adult who confronted us. Funny that, huh?

They really kicked in when I was reading a story on FB earlier about how this kid with prosthetic legs was competing in a kid's triathlon and the stress caused his prosthetics to fail. Marines in attendance picked him up and carried him the rest of the way across the finish line.

You mean the girlfriend with the Michelin neck who can't read cursive? Her testimony really "helped" the prosecution case, didn't it? Maybe troyriser can take her in as a boarder after the case to show his undying devotion to poor Trayvon. Groceries for her alone ought to cost him about $500/week. Plus, the learning how to read cursive DVDs will be another $39.95. But anything for good ol' Trayvon, right troyriser? After all, Trayvon's the victim we should be concerned about. Not Zimmerman, who can't work, will probably be bankrupt by the time the case ends, will likely face a civil suit that will cost him even more money (whether he wins or loses), and will never be safe again because people like troyriser unfairly made him out to be a murderer.

Someone at Weather.com has apparently been sniffing glue. They list yesterday's (Saturday's) high here in my city (LA County, far away from the beach) as 94 degrees. And said high occurred at 11:45am on a blazingly hot sunny day.
It may very well have been 94 degrees at 11:45am, but that definitely wasn't the hottest time of the day - not by a long shot. They list a similarly confusing high of 93 degrees at 12:05pm for today... which is considerably less than the high that the Windows 8 weather app on my PC lists - 104 degrees. I'm not sure where the app pulls its numbers from, but I am quite confident that it's a lot more accurate than the nonsense that Weather.com is throwing around.

No, I would've said nothing of the sort. You and your like-minded pals, on the other hand, have implied (or said outright) that kid had it coming. Zimmerman had a right to defend himself, certainly. His head was being pounded into the pavement. He was crying for help. Based on eyewitness evidence, there's little or no doubt Martin was intent on doing serious injury to Zimmerman.
Zimmerman is parked. He's been driving around alone on Neighborhood Watch. He sees a tall black male in a hoodie (it was raining, remember). Martin, coming back from a trip to the convenience store, starts acting suspiciously when he notices Zimmerman staring at him. Martin circles around, no doubt to check the plates and see if Zimmerman's a cop. Zimmerman isn't cop. Zimmerman, in his car, starts following Martin, parking again in the clubhouse parking lot. Martin heads down a cul de sac and keeps going down the sidewalk since he's on foot. He goes as far as his own backyard and then cuts back and more or less ambushes Zimmerman, who's now on foot, walking on the sidewalk, having parked his vehicle in the cul de sac. A struggle ensues. Zimmerman, being severely beaten, crying for help and in fear for his life, draws his gun and shoots Martin. Martin dies. Those are the facts as told and shown by Zimmerman in his voluntary reenactment.
Question: would Zimmerman have left the safety of his vehicle if he wasn't armed? Martin, who had circled Zimmerman before without Zimmerman tracking him, was not in sight. Zimmerman had no way to know Martin was gone.
Zimmerman made a terrible mistake when he left his vehicle. Doing so made him legally vulnerable. He's a member of the Neighborhood Watch. All he's supposed to do as a member of the Neighborhood Watch is observe and report, yet he got out of his vehicle with a flashlight and a gun while he was following a 17-year-old going home from the convenience store. A good prosecutor could run with that, I think. Fortunately for Zimmerman, the prosecutor is a self-aggrandizing publicity whore under pressure from Washington.
Even if he's acquitted, Zimmerman's life has been ruined because of the judgement he used and the actions he took that night. Put the politics aside for a moment: a man's life is ruined and a 17-year-old kid is dead. Turning this into a political issue or, more specifically, a racial issue, is just plain wrong for all who are doing it.

Watts Up With That? pointed out that the temperature readings are probably massively off because the weather stations are so effed-up, junior. I think there was a link with a précis on Friday's or Saturday's ONT.
------------------
I haven't been by Watts Up in a while, but my recollection is that he'd pointed to weather stations being in areas that drove the temperature up a bit. I don't think that's what I'm seeing here. The fact that Weather.com is claiming that the hottest part of the day was at around noon is a huge red flag in and of itself. On days like today and yesterday, the temperature doesn't peak until mid-afternoon.

Oh, will you just fuck off with that already?
Interested parties are invited to view the reenactment video to see the key points which are being discreetly elided here.
To wit, Zimmerman saying quite clearly that (a) his jacket rode up as he squirmed on the ground, exposing his sidearm, (b) Martin looked down and saw the weapon, (c) Martin said, "You're going to die tonight, motherfucker," and (d) Zimmerman felt Martin making a grab for the weapon. AND THEN Zimmerman drew the gun and shot Martin.
That is at 12:28 on in the video.
Whereas in troyriser's version, Zimmerman was being "severely beaten" and promptly responded with a gunshot, with nothing intervening.
So troyriser, it isn't clear why you're pushing this particular highly selectively edited version of events, but you are, and it's not welcome, and as I said, fuck off with that. Paying attention? Fuck. Off. With. That. You're not being taken seriously, and it's because you're not a serious individual.

If you'd gotten away clean and were in your own yard, in doing so you just drew a line through the chronology and created a second incident -- one in which Martin straight up ambushes Zimmerman.
Anything Zimmerman did prior is irrelevant to this second incident. He had a right to be on the street and walking around back to his vehicle.
Zimmerman's response to that second incident, the ambush attack, would be entirely proper and perfectly legal.
You might want to rethink your approach to social interactions...just saying.

I've noticed that a number of the Trayvon worshipers live in high income low crime neighborhoods, where the cops respond quickly because they know the residents are likely to be on a first name basis with the commissioner and mayor

Bad shit going down there.
God be with the people of Egypt. I've been there. Like everywhere, most of 'em are good people, who just want a good life for themselves and their loved ones. Sure, they've got a fucked-up religion. Well, more fucked-up than most, anyway. But that doesn't make them less human. In fact, it maybe makes them MORE human.
Poor bastards.
There but for the grace of God go us, in the U.S.A.
It CAN happen here.
This week, we commemorate the Declaration of Independence, easily in the Top Five of Greatest Political Documents Ever Written By The Hand Of A Human Being.
Possibly #1, although the Constitution of the United States kicks ass too,, if you bother to read and actually comprehend all of the big and small words in it.
This is the week that we should look back and remember why the United States of America exists as an independent nation.
And then we should go take a long, long, LONG look in the mirror.
And then we should roll up our sleeves and get to work.
I'm outta here for the night. But we know that the "tragic vision" of humanity is the correct one, and the leftist "heroic vision" is fatally flawed. The current seeming ascendency of centralized statism will inevitably collapse, sooner or later, because . . .
It. Won't. Work.
Stout heart, Morons. We will prevail. But it will suck--a lot--before we do.
I'm outta here. (for the night, anyway; got an eight-hour drive to the ancestral demenses tomorrow--er--today)

Why doesn't Zimmerman have the same right to walk through his neighborhood as Trayvon in your mind? That seems silly. Are you of the opinion that white-Hispanics be required to remain in their vehicles at all times while traversing their neighborhoods? If not, why the exception for Zimmerman? What is it about his particular actions that you feel justifies Trayvon's attempted murder?

I only write things about others that I would say openly to their face. It's a rule I follow. It usually keeps things civil on my end--or at least not overtly hostile. Besides, anonymous Internet people calling me names has little effect unless I happen to know and usually agree with that person, whatever they choose to call themselves online. That's me, how I view things.
However, the whole point of argument is to persuade. I don't think I've persuaded anyone that this whole Zimmerman business is just an overly politicized, dismal mess without any side to cheer for. That I kept going even though I was antagonizing the daylights out of people, some of whom I like, is my fault, part of a sometimes contrary nature, for which I apologize.

PS -- He's a long term moron lurker.
If the judge in this case really wanted to avoid riots, what she should do is issue a directed verdict of not guilty with prejudice. In her written opinion, she could unequivocally say that the State had no case nor cause to bring charges.
Judges still command a fair amount of respect in our society. While there would still be lots of grumbling, she could calm the waters a lot with this action. A fair hearing was held, and case dismissed.
Now do I believe that is is what will happen? Nope, it sounds like the judge is in the prosecutor's ball court for the most part. Just look at her agreeing to keep Zimmerman's parents out of the courtroom.

Likewise yuppie-liberal gun control types.
It's absolutely inconceivable to them that anyone would not just "wait for the police to arrive," because in the well-off, well-behaved affluent communities where they live, police response times are amazingly short.
The idea that others live in places where police response times are measured in multiples of 10X that number, if the police even show up at all, is totally outside of their experience.
I noticed some shock & confusion in the UK that after the brutal daylight sidewalk knife killing of Drummer Rigby by a pair of jihadis, it took nearly half an hour to obtain an armed police response to subdue the killers, despite there being a police barracks right down the road.
Same thing. They can't fathom that when they dial for help in a crisis, that help would not be there promptly, and when confronted with the hard factual reality of it not being there, they flounder and sputter.

However, there's only about 2 NYSP officers out on patrol at any given time to cover probably in the range of 500 miles of road 75% of which is twisty dirt back roads scattered over 75 or 100 square miles, which include a couple of mountains.
A 30 min response time to a 911 call would be considered excellent there.

No worries. It's just so freakin' obvious that someone has never experienced both when they say something stupid like, "115 is just like 100, but warmer." It immediately brands their mouth-spoutings as completely worthless and uninformed.

yeah no kidding. 100 feels like winter compared to 115. Oh its dry heat.... yeah dry your fucking ass. I have seen my share of 100 degree days here, and nothing ever came to remotely close to that "dry" 115. That shit was flat out retarded. It was like sitting in a oven sucking on a blow dryer. I didn't apologize for being wrong. I apologized for taking an antagonistic stance that negated the whole point of reasoned argument in the first place. The facts bear me out. Zimmerman, a member of the Neighborhood Watch, got out of his vehicle with a flashlight and gun and headed on foot down that sidewalk that started at the end of the cul de sac, which was the most likely direction Martin would take. Zimmerman turned around and began walking back to his vehicle only after the police, with whom he was talking, told him not to do that. Martin came forward and attacked Zimmerman just as he turned around. Martin's attack was a serious assault. One of the deadliest things you can do in a street fight is kick or pound the back or front of someone's head into the pavement. Zimmerman, in fear for his life, shot Martin.
The sequence of events I just described are derived from Zimmerman's own account. That action (getting out of his vehicle and heading in Martin's likeliest direction) compromised Zimmerman and brought about everything that happened after. That isn't conjecture or supposition.

The shooting was not 100% clean as Z exited his vehicle to pursue, but it should allow him to be acquited.
In the end, him leaving his vehicle does not justify the violent attack upon his person by Trayvon.
My verdict? Nice shot Mr. Z.

Posted by: MountainTurtle at July 01, 2013 03:13 AM (J4Z4U)
Our "home park" is Sanborn County Park, Santa Clara, CA -- http://tinyurl.com/6uunzp2 . The "em eucser" trail is from the parking next to the Peterson Grove, across the little mess by the stage, up the Peterson trail to the Sanborn, across Audrey Creek on the Sanborn and back down to the car. We did it once in 0:35, but today it was more like 1:10. It's always enjoyable -- today, we heard some Stellar's jays that actually sang instead of squawking and saw a nicely patterned snake near the Sanborn junction.
When we're feeling rambunctious, we go up the Sanborn past Audrey Creek and the Peterson junction, and continue way up to the San Andreas. Then we come down the San Andreas. That's the "big loop". There's a quarter mile detour up the mountain from the "big loop" that gets you to the Todd Creek Redwoods, which are really nice.

You're implicitly arguing a strawman. We're talking context, specific situations. When Zimmerman told the police on the phone that he had left his vehicle and was proceeding on foot (to check house numbers in order to furnish a specific location), the police directed him to stop and go back to his vehicle, which he proceeded to do until he was confronted and attacked by Martin. So yes, in this specific instance, Zimmerman was told by police not to walk around freely in his own neighborhood. You think the police were wrong in this instance? Make your case. Tell the police that Zimmerman had every right to check out house numbers or whatever. Because freedom. See how it flies.

Not true. The 911 dispatcher was not a police officer and she admitted during the trial that her statement was not a command and further that she had no authority to order Zimmerman to stop anyway. Zimmerman was free to walk around just the same as Martin was.

No, I'm not a liar, and no, I don't consider myself an agitator, and no, I didn't fabricate anything. And yes, it was an implicit command given the authority of the person saying it. If a cop told you to desist in a certain action by saying, 'We don't need you to do that', under those circumstances, would you continue to do that, whatever 'that' is? Not likely. Say you're in the military and your superior says, 'Please report to such -and-such person', does the use of the word 'please' connote an option, one which you could refuse?
Calling me a liar and engaging in granular semantic nitpicking doesn't prove your argument, although I loved your line, "That's a command, at least in English, at which I'm pretty good." You've got a kind of a meta-irony going there, really: the stilted construction, the clunky syntax, the manifest contradiction between exaggerated self-appraisal and cold, harsh reality. You should write a book. Critics will love it. They'll think you're doing it on purpose.
And yes, as it happens, I do have more positive and productive things to do. It's just that when I'm convinced I'm right, I can't let it go. But this? I'm letting it go, anyway.

Bitch,
The person on the other end of the 911 call was not anyone with authority to command anyone to do anything. She could have said "don't shoot that dog", and the crime would have been shooting the dog, not disobeying a call center attendant.
Quit saying "the police" when you mean the 911 attendant.
No disrespect to that person, I know it is a stressful job. But you are dissembling. NO POLICE OFFICER ORDERED GZ INTO HIS VEHICLE.

That Zimmerman was given anything remotely like a command by a person with any authority greater than advisory is demonstrably, factually untrue. To perpetuate such a claim would be to engage in the act of lying. At which juncture you become compared to a cloth container of feces is more vague but you are assuredly on that path.

1: Pretty much all of this is wrong. Bad things happen all the time to people who have exercised good judgment. People make good, well reasoned choices with the best of intentions and things still go to shit on the regular because they are cancelled out by people who make bad choices (or just because fate has a hard-on for them that day). So your post hoc standard is an irrational basis to judge one's actions in pretty much any situation... let alone this one. If Martin had assaulted someone else, invaded a house, or raped someone your logic would dictate that Zimmerman would have exercised poor judgment in NOT following Martin even though he had exactly the same information on which to make his decision.
And to the extent you could even remotely claim that Zimmerman exercised poor judgment here it is of the same sort that a woman exercises when she dresses skimpily and ends up being raped. He was acting within his rights and harming no one when he himself was harmed. You don't get to blame the victim even if they put themselves in a dangerous situation. Especially, as in this case, when they put themselves in danger to help others.
2: But even if we accept your standard and "measure by results" then you are making a value judgment that one less thug who jumps people being on the streets is a bad thing. I could easily argue that the results here are pretty close to optimal. Yeah, we could hope Trayvon would have found Jesus and reformed had he lived, but Zimmerman is not required to give up his right to walk around his own neighborhood unmolested, much less give up his life, in order for us to find this out. Natural selection is a bitch and she isn't big about allowing do-overs.
3: Martin didn't just "end up dead." That rather inelegantly elides over the whole assault and act of self-defense. Martin was the instigator of his own demise.
4: Far from taking the high moral ground you are really just counteracting the only good which would have come out of this had it not been politicized... which is namely that thugs would be more likely to think twice before they commit acts of violence lest they be shot to death. Jumping on the bandwagon to send a mixed message and give them justification to act as they do is the antithesis of civilized behavior and is a large reason our society is so fucked up. It is the recipe to maximize future tragedies.
And the left absolutely hates for there to be consequences for bad acts unless they are the ones doling out the punishment. They want you to think that the only legitimate actions are the ones that they take and thus assure you remain docile and compliant. Only the police can act.
5: Zimmerman was a hero by any definition that makes any sense. He went out of his way to see to the well being of his neighbors and he put his life on the line for them when they wouldn't even answer his screams for help. For at least some amount of time he followed a potentially dangerous individual so that the police would know where to look for that person. You don't get to blame Zimmerman for being smart enough to be armed and you don't get to excuse Trayvon for being stupid enough to think he didn't need to be --- or being enough of a punk to start swinging. There is no moral equivalence here. Zimmerman did exactly what we would hope any decent person would do.

I don't know where you will find it since it comes from South Africa and there is only one store around here that carries it. Maybe it is on Amazon.
The stuff is never bitter. No matter how much you abuse it, the tea never gets bitter. I don't know how they do it. You can brew it one day and then pour it into a cup and microwave it the next day and, while it is not as good as freshly brewed, it is not bitter. I don't know of any other tea that is like that.

I don't really care what your overall reputation on this site USED to be. There isn't much left of it anymore. In my experience, people who are as arrogant and sanctimonious when expressing their opinion on an issue as you've been on this one, despite lacking knowledge of the issue, tend to be from the left side of the political aisle. Your constant appeal to emotion while ignoring key facts and details, which is what you have often done when commenting on this case, is aggravating, to say the least.
Maybe one of us should have told you that you're acting like a liberal when you first stated with you comments about this case a couple of days ago, as that may have scared you straight. The "I'm convinced I'm right" comment pretty much sounds like the verbatim comments you would hear from a far Left global warming or 9/11 conspiracy believer. Though you seem to have tried to get more of the facts of the case correct over the past couple of days after some of us exposed your ignorance of many of them, you still don't have a complete grasp of the facts, are poorly analyzing them, and seem to be including spin from those who want Zimmerman put on Death Row. It's your cross to bear but you've expended a lot of effort and sacrificed a lot of your reputation discussing this case. You'll have to live with the self-inflicted damage to your reputation that is the result.
