— Open Blogger Good evening, and TGIF, Morons and Moronettes. Hard to believe we're halfway through 2013, but I ain't complaining. Your usual hosts are unavailable this evening, so I've got the duty.
Thanks to the rest of the co-bloggers, we have a fair amount of content this evening, so please proceed below the fold to begin. Remember to keep your arms, legs, and any other appendages inside the car while on the ride.
First of all, some updates on stories we've been following:
John Wayne Bobbitt updates us on his penis: "It's never been better."
Just because you all wanted to know.
Wisconsin Man Pleads Guilty To Couch Sex
According to a criminal complaint sworn by a Waukesha City Police Department officer, Streator’s 11 PM furniture tryst was interrupted by an off-duty cop out jogging. Officer Ryan Edwards reported spotting “a subject leaning over the couch facing down and it looked like he was having sexual relations with someone on the couch.” Edwards added that he “could see the male’s hips thrusting up and down on the couch.”
We were all over this last year when it happened.
Musical Interlude
This quiz is more anarchic than libertarian, but it's interesting to see what you come up with. I only scored a 57, but your mileage will certainly vary.
Another High-Flying Story
Couple Died Having Sex Against Window Which Broke
Wow. No confirmation that this is what it sounded like (start at the 0:35 mark)...
Second Musical Interlude
So, as ever, an Obamacare update...
Longtime Moronette Teresa in Fort Worth decided to touch base with the folks at the Obamacare hotline. Here's what she found. Go read the whole thing, and be warned- you ain't gonna like what you read. Thanks to Teresa, and while you're over there, please check out the whole blog.
Pssst... hey, buddy! Wanna buy a windmill? How about 14,000?

The US has had wind farms since 1981, what the left and the green movement don't want to talk about regarding windmills is (as usual) the truth. The truth is: windmills, like solar panels, break down. And like solar panels, windmills produce less energy before they break down than the energy it took to make them. That's the part liberals forget: making windmills and solar panels takes energy, energy from coal, oil, and diesel, energy that extracts and refines raw materials, energy that transports those materials to where they will be re-shaped into finished goods, energy to manufacture those goods. More energy than those finished windmills and solar panels will ever produce. There are many hidden truths about the world of wind turbines from the pollution and environmental damage caused in China by manufacturing bird choppers, the blight on people's lives of noise and the flicker factor and the countless numbers of birds that are killed each year by these blots on the landscape. The symbol of Green renewable energy, our saviour from the non existent problem of Global Warming, abandoned wind farms are starting to litter the planet as globally governments cut the subsidies taxes that consumers pay for the privilege of having a very expensive power source that does not work every day for various reasons like it's too cold or the wind speed is too high.
The US experience with wind farms has left over 14,000 wind turbines abandoned and slowly decaying, in most instances the turbines are just left as symbols of a dying Climate Religion, nowhere have the Green Environmentalists appeared to clear up their mess or even complain about the abandoned wind farms.
And this episode's installment of...

DPUD, AliceH, Skylia, Chad, Eddiebear... all names headed for the Moron Hall Of Fame. I've met most of these folks at Moron MeatUps, and I'm extremely proud to call a couple of them my good friends. They've been associated with the HQ for a decade now, and the writing is always poignant and funny. Check 'em out. Hell, bookmark the site, and go daily. I do.
Over the past few months, I've had the chance to get to know Walt at Damn Dirty RINO much better, and I can't say enough about the guy. Insightful, funny, engaging, and a friggin' AWESOME photographic artist. As he's got a real job (that allows him to assist in the highest standards of Moronhood), he doesn't post every day, but when he does, it's awesome. You can also sign up for Facebook updates from his site. Check it out.
Oh, and he has cool SWAG you can buy from his site.
I've watched what Hat offers via the Yahoo group, and it's really thoughtful commentary. He updates the hell out of the site, it looks good, and his is engaging reading with fun graphics. Hat's a good guy, and his site is definitely worth your time.
Movie Of The Week

I can only say, after a long night of spicy food, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
Final Musical Offering Of The Night
After this week in politics, this song asks a good question.
And this is just awesome. Thanks to Walt at Damn Dirty RINO for the suggestion.
Thanks, in no particular order, to rd brewer, Maetenloch, Jammie WF, Drew M., Walt, BenK, Slublog, CAC, Gabe, and anyone I forgot for helping me compile all this for tonight. If you hadn't noticed, folks, there are some seriously talented people who keep the blog running because they like to do it. Disagree that we may, all of us are ultimately after the same conclusion: that our nation remain the beacon of true liberty in the world. Like family, we can all get after each other, but in the end, we still love each other. I know that there's no place in the country I've been since discovering this blog that there hasn't been a Moron or Moronette waiting to welcome me. We're lucky to have each other, and as we approach Independence Day, let's be thankful for that.
As ever, please come find me on Twitter, and have a great weekend. Thanks for reading!

Good evening. I have been severely restricted from posting at work.
A supervisor told people on his team to remove Google Chrome from their desktops as its instalation violated company policy and slowed down our web based systems. In an effort to retaliate against the sup, 4 people on his/her team called HR to complain.
The Head Retard was asked why they had installed it on their desktop, and retard replied so "they could watch movies faster."
Yes THR admitted to watching movies on company time/dime and bandwidth. Needless to say upper management was livid when notified.
I pray those people have not bred.

Re: The Libertarian Purity Quiz
I'd like to note that I've got a house full of creepy old Libertarians across the street -- Ron Paul signs on the lawn every election day, whether he's running for anything or not, and so on.
Yet they're the same folks with handicap parking stickers for their cars, who drop a dime to the cops if they feel someone is in one of "their" street parking spaces, as well as summoning the paramedics whenever they stub a toe.
So purity.

Streator had to fuck the sofa because he is a unionized teacher driven mad by Walker's victory. I tell ya, everywhere you look in Wisconsin, you see union thugs having public sex with sofas, chairs, recliners and even the odd Ottoman or two. It's Walker's fault.

I have never seen Apocalypse Now and know nothing about the political flavor of the movie. My husband's band usually mentions their appearance in the movie and plays the song they performed in the movie (Suzie Q).
In your opinion, would mentioning this be appropriate or inappropriate for the Magpul Freedom Festival 2nd Amendment rally tomorrow?

Tough question. Although I like this movie- not sure why- it is considered by many to be an anti war film. So perhaps it might be better to mention that he was in a war film and performed this song without mentioning the film.
I'm a non-veteran, so maybe they have different ideas.

This is the most perfect death I have ever heard of: a friend's aunt Dottie lived to be 98 and could still walk and had all her marbles. She went to her daughter's New Year's Eve party a few years ago, sat chatting and joking with her family and had 3 Brady Manhattans. Then she got sleepy and her son drove her home. She died in her sleep.
All good people should die like that. Unfortunately, they don't.

Beluga whales are the cutest little dudes. They come up the inlet outside Anchorage and park their big backsides at the mouth of one of the rivers and just inhale salmon until they can hardly move. The pods are fun to watch because they slow down for the babies and the babies come up lots for air.
Way cool.

Oh, it gets better. I wasn't intending to triple major, the double was planned, but then getting the poli sci one required a bunch of history classes and it wasn't that much more work to go ahead and add that one in too. It's amazing how much you can cram in at 22 credit hours a semester.
Technically I have minors in theology and psychology as well.

Can I ask you guys for some prayers? Turns out this nagging stomach pain I'm having is more than likely gallstones, and pending an ultrasound, my doctor has strongly suggested that I get it lopped out. Not only is it gonna be really expensive (THANKS OBAMA!), but I'm under 30 and I shudder at a lifetime of having to avoid ice cream, butter, and cheese. Not that I haven't eaten a lifetime worth of these things already...
I'm just kinda hoping this thing goes away and I can just tone down the fats and be done with it.
xx
I am well over 30 and had my gall bladder taken out a few years ago, after 3 years of no one quite knowing what the problem was.
There are very few things you have to avoid, although if you have IBS, they might put you on meds to keep it at bay. Typically, I only have to worry about things like bacon and certain fast foods- greasy things. Did not have to give up butters or dairy at all. The surgery is not bad, it's done the least invasive way possible, you'll get a few very small horizontal scars, that's all. They will fade away.
I asked my doctor if I could use nutrition to make the gallstone go away. She said sure, I know people who have claimed they are doing that, but once it's gone, your gallbladder will make more. That's why they take the gallbladder out, it's gone kind of wonky.
Good luck and ((hugs))

The Atlanta Black Crackers (originally known as the Atlanta Cubs) were a professional Negro league baseball team which played during the early-to-mid-20th century. They were primarily a minor Negro league team; however in the brief period they played as a major Negro league team, they won the second half of the 1938 split-season but lost the play-off for the Pennant.
Yeah. I’m sure that Blacks everywhere will instantly embrace the term “Black Cracker” ... in your dreams

86 point medium core libertarian. Some of the questions were retarded. "Relax immigration laws" - uh, yeah, USCIS is a bitch, I've been through it with my wife, but I guess they mean amnesty for evading laws altogether so how do I answer that?
Privatize the police? What?
And don't Libertarians think liberty needs to be defended? I find Conservatives to be overly nannyish in their own way but I can't associate with this idiocy either. Guess I'm just an odd duck.

One tip from me (I have an a/c unit in my bedroom that I have never turned on)? Put some towels down on the bed, couch, wherever you are hanging, lay yourself out buck nekkid with a tupperware full of water and ice cubes and a wash cloth. Welcome to healthcare in the new millennium.

Actually, no. Blue Cross. The surgery by itself will max out the deductable/coinsurance, so I don't necessarily mind a night in the hospital, and yeah, it did raise an eyebrow. But that's what the doc and the insurer said.

I had mine out, and was just as worried as you were when I did. Tried to make it "go away" for a long time but it never did; when these things show up having the gallbladder removed is usually the only option.
It took my digestion a while to adjust afterward, but for the most part it's stabilized and I'm able to eat pretty much what I want. Now, this did spur me to eat a healthier diet, and I do have to be careful with dairy, but I didn't have to give up anything at all. So long as I'm very careful to take them in moderation I can have ice cream, cheeseburgers, all the stuff I used to eat pre-gallstones. Number 2 (to put it delicately) might be somewhat, eh, looser than before, at least at first and quite possibly for weeks and even months afterward, but a healthy diet helps your system compensate and bring this back into balance too. It's an adjustment you'll have to make for a lifetime (your bowels WILL let you know if you fall off the wagon and eat too much heavy shit), but it should work for a lifetime.
Most doctors do these things as outpatient procedures; you're home the same day. You'll be laid up for a good week and like I said, your digestion takes some time to adjust itself to not having a gallbladder to help filter stuff, but after that you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel. As with everything medical, your mileage my vary, but my doctor told me my results are typical for a good 90-95% of gallbladder operations. Good luck and don't worry.

Just like Lurker said, you make some adjustments. Mine was done out patient as well- I have several horrible attacks over the years and no gall bladder was way better than horribly painful attacks.

The problem is when they were not directly elected, they were bought and paid for by the "big businesses" at the time through the more easily controlled state legislatures. But as you can see, crony capitalism still lives on and much more readily because the employers are freaking stupid voters and not (less stupid I hope) state office holders.
Terms for the senate need to be two or three years NOT the six years that they currently enjoy. They act right for a year or two and then go full liberal for four. Its Bullshit. Look at fucking ORRIN HATCH for an example. Marco Rubio, Jeff Flake, and Dean Heller though are different animals. They all FREAKING LIED to get elected. That should be a fire-able offense.

Another aspect of the genius that the Founders gave us was labyrinthine paths to the seats of power so that it was more difficult for any group to conspire to use similar techniques to gain control. The "people" had a direct vote for their Representative and an indirect vote for their Senators via their votes for members of their respective legislatures.
Now of course, liberal wisdom sucked us into the popular vote for Senators and presto McCain, Hatch, and Graham are examples of the result of straying from the original Constitutional framework and its limitations.

Jeff Flake lied about the views of a fellow Conservative to get elected.
I have found he only cares about illegal immigrants because he thinks some of them can be converted to Mormonism.
You see, Mormons believe that there are souls in heaven waiting for bodies here on Earth. Illegals are those "vessels" as far as Flake is concerned.

Spillane's Mike Hammer (ahem), was a no bullshit guy. In one novel it emerges that Charlotte Manning, the dishy lady psychiatrist with whom Hammer has inexplicably fallen in love, murdered Jack Williams, his wartime buddy. Once he makes this discovery, Hammer pumps a .45 slug into the general vicinity of Charlotte's navel,
setting up the last three lines of the book:
---------
"How c-could you?" she gasped.
I only had a moment before talking to a corpse, but I got it in.
"It was easy," I said.

The "rationale" for the popular vote was to prevent corrupt legislatures for controlling the Senate. That sure worked well, as the Senate is one of the most corrupt deliberative bodies on the planet. My view is that a State (local) legislature can be corrupt, but is far easier to throw out via the ballot than an entrenched corrupt Senate member. All moot now, since none of the Constitution actually means what it clearly says, or will be interpreted as clearly written in the Brave New Obama World.
The 17th should have been an Amendment that established term limits for Senators of a maximum of two three-year terms.

BCochran: well, I have a big gooey warm spot in my heart for pitchers, since my uncle Ray was a lefty minor-league pitcher in the late '40's (you can check his stats out on baseball reference.com - Ray Janikowski). He was hit by a line-drive in the middle of his 3rd year and never came back from that. I remember him as a very funny, rather gruff fellow. My mom told me he had constant shoulder pain - this was well before the days of Tommy Johns surgery. One day, he watched my girlfriend and I toss baseballs in the backyard. (We were about 8 at the time.) "Jesus Christ, Donna, you throw like a girl" he said, as he came huffing over the yard. "But uncle Ray, I am a girl," I said. "Holy God, THIS is how you throw a baseball, kids!" he said.
I don't throw like a girl - thanks to uncle Ray.

Wait, is that charged balanced?
Ca would be Ca(II) which give an overall +4 charge for the metals. If you didn't have a N-O bond, that would mean yolu'd have 5- (3- for N and 2- for oxygen)... unless there is an unpaired electron, in which case we'd have to run EPR to confirm that and tell you where that unpaired electron is hanging out...
Posted by: The Chemical Hat at June 28, 2013 11:37 PM (Vk2pI)
Well its not Ca. Its CA. That would mean Carbon and a second element. But there is no Element that is just A.

Yeah, I feel her pain. I was quite taken with Christie, right up until the Sandy fiasco. I let him creep back in over the winter, until that shitshow on the Jersey Shore with him winning Obama a kewpie doll or whatever. In the words of the late, great, Tony Soprano, he's dead to me now.
Any combination of Walker, Cruz, or Paul would make me a happy man.

HeatherRadish: oh jeez, the Brew Crew is sad to watch this year. I turned the game off in disgust tonight. Yes, Jean Segura is great (not tonight, but generally speaking. A good shortstop is gold.) But oh, yes, we could use Hart.
And Braun...well, on the surface of it, he looks guilty as all hell. But - it seems to me steroid users undergo a drastic change in build and I don't see that in Braun. I don't see big bulk, or a pumpkin head (the really telltale sign of steriod use - look at A-Rod's rookie card and compare it with later ones - doesn't look like the same person.) Crap, who knows?
Baseball is my summer joy - what I do to get away from the political shit and the fact that my country is disappearing right in front of me. I go to Miller Park and hold my hand over my heart for the National Anthem and God Bless America and for a few moments I can pretend I live in 1955, when we were great. But then I watch the game - and shit - no comfort even there!

WolfinNC, I am a wimp when it comes to needles, but for some strange reason I recover from surgery like gangbusters (except when I had my tonsils out at the ripe old age of 32 - I was miserable for 2 weeks!).
Believe me, I babied myself that evening, and took it real easy the rest of the time (for about a week) until I was back to "normal".
I had just turned 41 at the time of the surgery, so it's not like I was a spring chicken - you're a lot younger, so you'll probably do even better.
Regardless, you will feel SOOOOOO much better after you have it out - if the pain you're experiencing right now is anything like what I had, you'll be kissing the surgeon's feet at the follow-up visit.......

On the one hand I think that's outrageous. OTOH, I recently read at a poker/sports betting commentary board called Roughing The Punter about a place called Craftsteak that's located at the MGM Grand on the Strip in Vegas. One 6-oz slice of Bone-In Ribeye or Filet Mignon, made with actual imported Japanese Kobe beef: $260. Everything is a la carte.
And then there's their "midprice" option, the same cuts made with American Wagyu-style beef... for the low low price of $105.
I admit, I've been giving it some thought...

My dad hit me with a line drive right between the eyes at age 10. I think that ended my baseball career right then and there, as I tended to shy away from balls hit in my direction after that. Posted by: rickl at June 28, 2013 11:25 PM (sdi6R)
Holy God. I remember reading that Rollie Fingers was hit with a line drive when he was in HS and he was afraid to even go near the pitcher's mound for years after that. The drive shattered his jaw. And yet, he ended up in the HOF.
Part of the reason I love baseball is because it looks so easy to the ignorant and yet it's so goddamn hard. BCochran, you say you weren't a hard thrower - and yet the WSJ says the average healthy male can only throw a ball at 65 mph at the hardest. So pitching faster than that is a unique skill - and you should be very proud that you could do it.
Hitting a ball that's coming at you at 95, 100 mph - when you have less than a second to make up your mind as to whether it's a ball or a strike? Jesus. It's hard and people can't grasp that it's hard.

Ashley Judd's Puffy Scamper, aka MrCaniac , I worked with a woman whose daughter was seeing a gangbanger thug and wound up murdered execution style with him.
Very strange to see her dead daughter pixilated on TV and then the mother arriving on the scene to be told her daughter was dead.
As added humiliation they pulled the pants of her daughter down.

t's so funny to me - the Victorian ideal saw women as etheral, morally superior creatures (but not capable of advanced thought). The progressives apparently see women as morally superior creatures too - but they also want to keep the "advanced thought" nonsense.

Two years later you cant even tell. Just one scar on her leg from where she had the rope burns is all.

Just before I retired I took Boy camping in PA (we went to the East Broad Top Railroad), on the way up there my cell phone rang. It was my chief, he had scheduled a meeting that was "mandatory" for me to attend, I was 200 miles away and the meeting was in a half an hour. I told him I wasn't going to make it, then I shut the phone off for the weekend.
He was PISSED! but like I told him, in six months regardless of what you do to me I will retire at one-half E-6 pay and my boy will remember that camping trip for the rest of his life. He took me to XO's Mast, the XO told him he was a dick and then dismissed all charges. He never forgave me for that, but fuck him, little pencil necked prick. (It probably didn't help that I told him as I was checking out that his anchors couldn't protect him any more and he'd better not meet me on the streets or I would do my best to put his ass in the hospital).

By the end of the 3rd month or so you pretty well know you're pregnant, and I'm guessing that by that time, barring any medical issues, you've decided if you want to be or not, right? So what would possess anyone to carry a baby almost to term and then say "Y'know what, fukkit, I've changed my mind." Never did get that. Am I alone here?

Pretty f'in sick. George Tiller once admitted that the vast majority of his late term patients were simply teenagers who'd hid their pregnancies from their parents until it became obvious. Then, bam, abortion.

OK, with my flawless sense of when AOSHQ threads die, I posted this on an earlier thread (it's like the 3rd to last one), but since I still like it I repost it here:
"I stopped by an estate sale after work today. Overheard an (obviously) ghey white guy talking about Paula Deen with two black women. Apparently Paula Deen is worse than Hitler, Stalin and Mao combined.
Then the ghey said "Well, now gays can get married! Isn't that something!" Complete silence from the black women. The ghey looked all butthurt (and not for the usual reason). The expression on his face was all " Hey, I said the PC line about Deen and you're not returning the favor!"
That was good. Also, I got a great framed poster that will look great in my bedroom dirt cheap. "

Ok, 3 reasons.
1) You're a stupid teenager who hid the pregnancy from your parents until it became obvious.
2) You have gotten some poor prenatal diagnosis, and often your doctor is pushing abortion.

1) You're a stupid teenager who hid the pregnancy from your parents until it became obvious.
2) You have gotten some poor prenatal diagnosis, and often your doctor is pushing abortion.
3) You are simply a horrible person who decides to "deal with it" because your boyfriend broke up with you, or you just take that damn long to go through with it.

"But in the case of 1 and 2, you'd know before the halfway point, right?'
1) Some women, especially those with a bit more...er...fluff, don't start showing til they're practically at their due date.
2) The "big" ultrasound that shows major issues is typically done around 20 weeks. That of course gets into the issue of eugenic abortion.

OK thanks. That's why I asked, now I guess it sorta makes sense...
But then again, in this enlightened age, where we have pills and powders and things you can wear and things you can implant and morning after pills, I fail to see why abortion is as needful as it seems to be made out to be. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems that abortion is used as a last minute birth control method, and IMAO that's just wrong.
I could go off on a tangent now about compulsory child support, but I won't. That's to coin a phrase, a drink for a different bottle.

"50 percent? wow, I didn't realize the failure rate was that high."
It's not. It's just that the type of woman would have an abortion is also the type of woman who's lax with birth control. That's why, short of reversible sterilization prior to sexual maturity, we can't contracept our way out of abortion.
However, that's all rather moot when it comes to women who are killing their children who are old enough to survive outside the womb.

Plan B is relatively effective at the personal level, but it doesn't cut the overall pregnancy rates within a group. Therefore, it isn't a public policy solution to unplanned pregnancies, despite what liberals say to bludgeon us over the head with to prove our supposed lack of effort to reduce unplanned pregnancies.

So when you ventilate his ass for blowing through the restraining order like the flimsy piece of paper it is, holding a knife and a roll of duct tape, your lawyer has more heft for the self defense plea.
Oh, and there is this, too, if you carry get yourself a lawyer who understands the intricacies of a self defense plea, cause most lawyers hate having to/don't know how to defend the guy who's essentially saying "yeah, I did it, but..."

And I am all for abortion in the case of rape or incest, but I want to make sure that the police investigate all those cases.
I'm not, which I state so as not to hide my postion. But my question on your position is a practical one: How would that work?
Should a woman seeking a rape exception for an abortion have to file charges against the attacker, get a conviction, or just swearsies that it was rape? In the first and last case you're back to the language about health of the mother, in which case, suddenly every abortion in the country becomes the result of a 'rape'.
In the case where authorities somehow become aware of the identity of the father of a 'deemed rape' baby, then what?
If she has to wait for a conviction first, then one runs into the problem of how fast the legal system turns. I doubt that's workable.
I suspect if abortions were ever generally banned such an exception would be involved so sorting out those answers might be useful, eventually.

The psycho has been put on notice that anything weird happens here and they will hold it against him.

Sorry, I misread your previous comment then.
If your concerned about the life of the child, I don't know how you get there. If your looking at the mother, my guess would be because an incest 'victim' is seen similarly to a statutory rape victim regardless of whether she sees herself as such. My further guess is that the set of consenting adult couples engaging in incest that seek abortions is vanishingly small, I don't know if there are any stats on that sort of thing.
That the language in bills persists may be out of a fear that the author will be accused of being pro-incest if they don't include it.

But mostly the last bit.
Only anarchists could get more than a 60 on that damn test, and anarchism is the split second before despotism. So it's stupid. And the test is stupid. And there's still half a bottle left to go.

We're actually pretty good -- the whole-house fan has blown all the heat out of the attic, the west wall of the house is covered with grapevines and kiwifruit, and the air coming in is mostly cooler. If I were to do anything, I should put the hose on "drip" on the ground near the open patio wing-door so I'm not sucking heat off the pavers and getting evaporative cooling instead....but that would require going outside.
Problem is, weather underground is saying that it's 69.8 degrees, and there just isn't enough temperature differential to rapidly drop the temp inside of the house. I can suck in as much 70 degree air as I want, but each cubic foot will only cool a smidge of walls, furniture, and floor before it's the same temp as all the other air in here.

I don't doubt that, I'm just brainstorming how it would work out. As a guy, while I don't want to be the father of a dead child, I don't want to be the father of a dead child who's also in jail because that's what the mother needed to do to have her abortion.
Yes, I'm aware of the obvious precaution, that's not the point.
If a woman has to initiate a police investigation, what happens next? She has to finger someone. The kid's DNA is going to be pretty clear evidence on that count. If the exception is really going to be for the product of a rape, then wouldn't they have to check paternity against anyone she had been involved with around the time of conception?
If one means to make an exception so that a woman doesn't have to give birth to the child of a guy who raped her, what happens the baby's DNA matches her boyfriend/husband?
What happens when the DNA indicated father, whoever he may be, insists that intercourse was consensual? How does that get resolved in a timely fashion?
And what if the woman involved actually was raped?
My point, if I have one, is that I'm not sure how you keep those who wish to game your exception from doing so without being kind of harsh on those to whom you intend the exception to apply.

Just as a suggestion....I made a bunch of "semi-permanent sprinklers" by taking a Home Depot bucket, drilling holes in the sides, starting with a brass quick connect, going to a threaded PVC elbow, a sprinkler riser, a threaded PVC straight connect, a sprinkler flexi-pipe bent 180 degrees in the soon-to-be-mentioned goo, a PVC straight connect, a 3' threaded grey pipe, and a lawn sprinkler head. The "goo" is fence-post mix, filling the bucket about 1/3. They're super-easy to make, steady enough to stay where they're put -- yet portable enough to move (and have handles!). You can use any lawn sprinkler head -- from full rounds to 1/4s to parking strip flavors....and they're dirt cheap.

I've long thought there should be some tech way to greatly reduce the air volume of a house, especially if you have a high ceiling living room like our previous place. Perhaps an aerogel bubble that could be expanded on demand while conforming to the shape of the volume, to let the cooling system focus better on where the humans are.

Honestly, I add milk and sugar, which means that basically all hot tea tastes more or less the same to me. My palate is only discerning where iced sweet tea is concerned. But I do enjoy a cup of hot tea from time to time.

I think I recently posted about Ohio's Black Panther/gangster "Cabals". They train people to make it through jury selection, so as to get hung juries for blacks.
The whole process is a "yes-sir-no-sir" apparatus, so they can yell at anyone else during deliberations. They know not what they create, yet they unleash the Golem upon us.
My friend watched one, (possibly two), of their "operatives", firsthand. They called everything "racist" and biased. That was their entire "argument". No one was convinced, but they 'hung' that jury.
...Perhaps it isn't any different than any given "black school" in the country.

Hope you're all well. Didn't read much of the thread--is Cthulu still being tentacled and green? I lose all the geek and tech-talk you late-nighters exchange, but you're still fun to read because your're all like night-shift friends.

Ha! I was about to say, "grab me a few bags from Whittard's, willya?" but the rest of the Horde beat me to it. (Although I can get Whittard's to ship, and get Taylor's of Harrogate -- what I'd really like is some from the place across the tube station from Harrod's, some from Harrod's, and some Yorkshire Gold for Hard Water).
I guess the Horde is fond of their tea.

Nominally Unitarian, that is to say classically so. Nowadays they're a bunch of Giai worshipping pagan hippy communist fucktards. Once upon a time it was about rationalism, and knowledge, and logic, and the real application of the scientific method towards philosophy and theology. Now it's a bunch of libtard progressive crap. Zoned AC.
Problem is, 'round here AC techs are the primadonnas of the construction biz, so it's a wonder you can get them to put in things that meet the "basic functionality" test, much less anything tricky -- and that's only if you do all the research yourself and demand that things be done right.

Those tend to be more permanent than what I have in mind.
A high ceiling living room in a two story home is nice when you have a big family or a lot of people over but adds expense when you're the only one home and it costs way too much to cool the place. A series of air locks and sensors could achieve the desired effect but the initial costs and nightmare scenarios run a bit high. I just want to eliminate that large empty space when it has no aesthetic value to serve.

One bale comes in, a lackey cuts a small plug from it, the expert sniffs, rubs it between his fingers dribbling onto the ground, and says, "this is fine tea -- send this to proper English vendors."
Another bale comes in, a lackey cuts a small plug, the expert sniffs and rubs it between his fingers until it is gone. "This is quite serviceable tea, send this to our friends in Russia."
Another bale, another plug.... "This tea is of the finest quality -- set it aside for the Queen." And another, "quite right -- bind not the mouths of the kine and all that -- back to India." And another, "it's rough around the edges, but perfectly suited for our cousins in Australia."
And so it goes for the entire day, at which point the expert stands up, dusts himself off, and says, "this place is filthy! Sweep up all this loose shit and ship it to Lipton in America."

This is a huge deficiency on most mobile browsers. Supposedly Opera Mobile has a feature to do it but I haven't tried it yet.
The one thing I've found that really works on both iOS and Android devices is a Bluetooth keyboard with real Home and End keys, or at least combinations that do the same. Even then, the browser may be a bit stupid. I find the Chrome on my Android tablet understands the Page Up and Page Down but doesn't know what to do with Home or End outside of a text editing box.

You can also find exceptional bargains by buying kilo and half-kilo packages of tea in Persian or Indian markets....although, since I don't read Hindi or Farsi, these tend to be a crapshoot. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the UK just gets reamed from all sides. If you have an HP model laptop that on a decent sale (as in, you could get it for that within 90 days from somewhere) would go for $399, but has a list price of $599....we'd see it on sale in the UK for 599....pounds. And that's in all sorts of things -- take items from http://www.harborfreight.com/ and http://www.chestermachinetools.com/ , for instance. They're the same stuff made in the same Chinese factory -- painted differently: http://tinyurl.com/2vyuwbz http://tinyurl.com/pytv33k

I used to buy a lot of imported computer mags. They had all kind of interesting info on stuff that wasn't marketed here and the writing was often just more enjoyable. But the prices always gave me pause.
It can be hard to appreciate just how wealthy America is, even compared to many other developed nations that have imposed ruinous policies on themselves. One thing I noticed was that products considered obsolete in the US, small computers and game systems, in this case, would see continued support in the UK and Europe long after they were considered dead and gone here.
One example is the Sega Master System, an 8-bit game console that got utterly clobbered by the NES, largely due to a superior publishing model and also Nintendo policies that were later the focus of litigation against the US arm of the company. (In short, if you were a third party publisher and wanted your game on a Nintendo platform, it had to be exclusive to Nintendo platforms for a minimum of two years.) Long after the Master System had been eliminated from most US stores, it still lived on as the handheld Game Gear. In fact, if you used a cheap adapter for the edge connector, most Master System games worked just fine on the Game Gear's tiny screen.
In Europe, though, the Master System lived on because the lead Sega platform, the Mega Drive / Genesis, was too expensive for much of the market. So games that had been developed primarily for the Game Gear were also released as Master System games. Technically, the newer Master System games and the console itself was still available to US retailers. It's just that nobody would bother to give it any shelf space. There just wasn't a market for such a low end product here.
But then, after all of the various costs and VAT were added up, a European would pay almost as much for a Master System and some games as a US resident would pay for the Genesis and some games.

This is a sort of Sim City parody, where Homer has caused a massive detonation at the nuclear power plant that has left him untouched. So he must rebuild Springfield. Fortunately, he quickly gains his daughter Lisa as an advisor.
One of the sites that becomes available early on is Cletus the Slack Jawed Yokel and his farm. Among the crops you can assign him to grow is Triffids. Rather than indicating a reward in cash or donuts plus XP points, the outcome of growing triffids is indicated to be 'End of humanity.' To my disappointment, the Triffid crop matures and disappears with no harm to Springfield and its residents.
