Getting That Old 1979 Feeling Again
Between civil war in Syria, a prospective coup in Egypt that could lead to civil war, and serious unrest on Turkey (that could lead to civil war), we could wake up in three or six months to find the region in complete chaos or worse-maybe American hostages will complete the decay of the moment. What a relief to know that Obama has telephoned Morsi in Egypt! I am sure the problem is solved now.
Yep. I've been expecting events to start cascading towards a crisis since...well late 2008 or so. I figured it would take a few years for tensions to build up and inhibitions to sufficiently loosen but 5 years was definitely on the over side.
Now with just a little bad luck we could have chemical warfare troops fighting in Syria and hostages in Egypt. Bad times bad times.
And speaking of that year here's the 1979 Sears Catalog. I think I actually owned more than few toys from that edition and my bedroom décor was a slightly more tasteful version of this:
Also did anyone ever like Ziggy or was he just a giant scam by the cartoon-marketing industrial complex?
My worst nightmare. But Clinton's real problem will be that the core of the same organization that did that finessing in the 2008 primary will probably be working for. Vice President Joe Biden; who has himself been doing a lot of quiet, behind the scenes negotiating and back-slapping in anticipation of the primary. You see, Joe Biden - God help us all - still wants to be President. But if he doesn't do it now, he doesn't do it at all. And before you dismiss Joe. there's that organization, which is largely comprised of people who targeted Hillary Clinton pretty viciously in 2008. Think she's forgotten that, let alone forgiven it? No? Me, neither. There's also the individual state party infrastructures themselves, which are still being generally ignored even though they were key to Barack Obama's 2008 win. Whether they can be used to mess up Hillary Clinton's life again will be only determined when the Democratic party announces their nomination system for 2016, which I do not think that they have yet done.

It must be his boyish good looks and his utterly charming personality.

Why California Can't Have Nice Things
"Behold Caltrans, the state transportation agency in California that, despite having some $14 billion or so to spend every year, cannot manage to follow its own rules," Kevin Williamson writes at the NRO Corner today. As Williamson writes, "California has been building a new eastern span for the Bay Bridge, a $6.4 billion project scheduled to open in about two months," which, as Williamson writes, "California would like very much to ensure that the bridge does not fall down."
But not to worry - they managed to fuck it up in a non-repairable way. And no one is to blame apparently.
Regarding the potential safety hazards of the new bridge span, our enlightened, Zen-focused Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown was quoted in May by the San Jose Mercury as saying, "Don't know if it's a setback. I mean, look, s*** happens."...But that bridge may be getting plenty of extra traffic, as "Bay Area Rapid Transit workers walked off the job early Monday morning after last-minute negotiations failed to produce a new contract agreement. The strike left about 400,000 BART riders finding other ways to get work."
One upside though, is that for the moment, there's less chance of commuters being accosted by naked acrobats at BART stations while the system is strike is on
End result: A delayed bridge opening, no public transportation, but plenty of naked guys running around the train stations.
6 Insane Reasons Formerly Famous People Dropped Off the Map
Between rescuing hostages and insane Dad/Managers there are some wacky reasons why formerly well-known actors have gone MIA. But this picture pretty much explains whatever happened to Jake "Who?" Lloyd.
Family Builds a Casket for Dad
"My dad died this month. My brother, my uncle, and some close friends got together over two days to build his casket."
With the advent of commercial funeral homes and the all-American funeral we've made the process of actually burying someone in the ground more and more distant until it's almost a formality. Now many may prefer it that way but there's something to be said for doing something physical as part of the final farewell whether building or carry the casket or even helping to fill in the grave. Positive action helps dull the ache of grieving more than mere expressions of sympathy. Maybe this is a guy thing.

I believe we need to devote time daily towards racial cleansing & reconciliation. Just another step on the road to becoming #color blind.
And I'll repeat: this is the witch in the 2008 primaries was boasting about how she could make the democrats work as a national party even if they purged all the white men out of it.
As for 1979, there's one big difference. It's another three years to the next presidential election.

As a Commiefornian, let me point out that this state has been building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building and building that "new eastern span".
A "new eastern span" which is not even especially long! Gunshots from West Oakland (a common occurrence there) can reach the island which makes up the midpoint of the bridge.
The damage which the "new eastern span" was meant to rectify was inflicted by the Loma Prieta earthquake. Which was in fucking _1989_.
When that "new eastern span" finally is opened to the public, there will be people in attendance who had not even been born in 1989, and some of those people will be bringing their CHILDREN. That's how long this thing has taken.
And it's not as though the huge delays have been because of an insistence upon quality workmanship and solid materials. The steel and concrete are both highly questionable. So are the bolts and the welds.
(There was actually a Federal investigation of the bridge welding during the Bush Jr. years after a whistleblower said they were grossly inadequate. However, they had all been sealed in by the time the investigators got there.)
Welcome to the American future run by liberals from top to bottom. Where simple infrastructure overhauls routinely take five times longer than forecast and cost ten times as much money as projected. Shut up, that's why.

It was Werfel (now head of the IRS) who engineered the deal to prevent lay-off notices being issued prior to the election, in direct contradiction of legal mandates, promising a sort of immunity to those who put it off, rather follow the rule of law for 60-day notices. Ummm... is she even arguing the case? I have not watched a lot of the trial, but it always seems to be a guy having to try to convince the Jury this shit sandwich is Filet Mignon...
Or.... did she pass the case off so she could blame the loss on the other guy?

I am not myself a civil engineer. But I know a couple of them, and they tell me that the structural carnage in Commiefornia's major metro areas is going to be something to see after the Big One shows up. Largely due to the amazingly blatant corruption and corner-cutting on public works here.

Loss of support from the base leads to losses in 2014. GOP leaders read data that showed that their share of the Hispanic and single young women vote was dismal.
Their solution? Actively support policies that further alienate the base "because they've go nowhere else to go" while believing futilely that the Hispanics and women will go against instinct and vote for the GOP when the Dems give them all they want and more
Rinse and repeat until party dies completely

Earlier, I thought about it and said to myself, "If you don't use your God-given talents for this man, you're wasting your time tonight."
I posted through "allergies and dust". I just don't feel like being funny tonight, but that'll change after a few Budweisers, perhaps. I'm a moron, after all.
The prayers I post are meant for everyone. Please use them to strengthen your Faith in God, family and true friends. They are really reminders for myself, but I understand the strength in the written word.
...maybe someone is moved to action, maybe not. --That's not up to me.
-I just want you all to know that if you ask for prayers, and I read about it, I'll put it into action.
-EVERY
-SINGLE
-TIME
God Bless you, Peaches. Thank you. God Bless little Maddie. Her trials strengthen my Faith, without even knowing her.
"Budweiser" is like "Benadryl" for "allergies", ...right?

Got me to thinking, what songs were terrible, you knew the songs sucked, you couldn't possibly defend the songs, but for some reason you liked the song anyway?
For me that song was the 1996 Donna Lewis song "I Love You, Always Forever"
Ditzy lyrics repeated over and over in a breathy voice like you're listening to phone sex
Maybe that's the reason I liked the song

Has anyone here ever chosen Walmart or Costco for their bifocal prescription? I know the usual eye clinic checkup is around $60 and that decent frames can be had for $20 to $50, but I'm wondering what I'm likely to pay for my actual prescription. So over 4 years (assuming you graduate on time/they don't snooker you into staying longer) that's $264k. 7% of that is $18,480 you have to pay in interest before reducing the principle at all. When you only have a 50% chance of employment at all.

Every movie you watch that shows the television news discussing a major event features personalities from CNN. Unless they are trying to make fun of the media, in which case they'll show Fox News anchors. Well actually it seems to be more about the studio making the movie. 20th Century Fox will use Fox. Universal will use NBC.

I was watching Fox and I saw all these finacial analysts talking up how increased new car sales and home sales is proof the economy is recovering.
Let's ignore the fact it is no such proof, and point out how these a**holes who work for investment companies are simply trying to drum up business. When our workforce labor participation rates are out of 1970's levels I MIGHT believe them.
What was real knee slapper was how they predicted the second half of the year to have an even greater economic uptick! Buwhahahahahaha!

Are you checking prices on each item or just using the default values? I find that most every piece of equipment will move in five days if I put it in the lowest 5 or so buyout values, and consumables/gems will move so long as the price puts them on the first page of the listing.
AD are so cheap for folks that buy them with zen, they don't seem to care about the prices, it's just a matter of staying high on the list so that it gets picked if someone's buying. I had to laugh today, as I put some 20-something GWF sword up for 25k (in line with available prices) and it sold this morning.
If stuff doesn't move on a first attempt, I then check for items of that level and equipment slot and fit it in earlier on that list.

see you all later
Just to add to my thinking on that, for when you read this later, you can search prices on the first tab of the auction house.
On a first sale attempt, drag the item from your inventory to the big space for text. You'll probably want to put the item's level in both of the range slots (so 20-20 for example) and select its rarity, so as to avoid similarly named items. Then click on equipment or consumables or whatever. This step is because there's so much stuff, it's hard to know what's actually valuable, so you want instances of that particular item. This process will go faster the fewer keystrokes are involved, so try to do all items of a given level before considering items of another level.
If the item is returned, then I think about it from the buyer's perspective. They probably don't know what's good either. In this case delete anything in the text field, but fill in the level range and rarity. If your piece is class specific, you'll want to have that filter set correctly, too. The search will run when you hit Equipment, but you'll want to click on the specific body position as well for a good search. Honestly, you won't get much under this method, but you'll get something, and you already blew an identify scroll so you might as well recoup something.
Finally, until you're sure of what you're doing, your initial bid value should never be more than 25. If you set a five day auction, it is almost certain your buyer will use the buyout price so he can have it immediately. And at 25 or below for the initial bid, you don't have to spend your AD on anything that doesn't move.

I figured, myself, that the Egyptian military should have had someone walk up to Morsi at zero hour of their 48-hour countdown and put a bullet in his head. Then they should have given the VP a 48-hour countdown along with a statement: "We take no power for ourselves. We're not pro- or anti Muslim Brotherhood; we're not for democrats, sharia, leftists, rightists, communists or fascists......we're anti-fuckups."

Whatev. That Morsi is still flapping his jaw and looking to cling to power is a problem. It's undermining the military -- and that he looks like he's bargaining makes it look like he's got a position of strength to bargain from. Were he dead, this would be obviously false -- even if nods were given to the MB that they coulda, shoulda, oughta be legit.

have had someone walk up to Morsi at zero hour of their 48-hour
countdown and put a bullet in his head. Then they should have given the
VP a 48-hour countdown along with a statement: "We take no power for
ourselves. We're not pro- or anti Muslim Brotherhood; we're not for
democrats, sharia, leftists, rightists, communists or
fascists......we're anti-fuckups."

Add in Rossini's William Tell Overture, and you've got about 85% of the music backing all the classic Looney Tunes cartoons....in just 3 compositions.
And, BTW, I'd always heard it as "The Thieving Magpie" -- which better fits the Italian "La gazza ladra". Gazza is a noun, "magpie", where ladra is a modifier. So it's more correct to say "the magpie that is a thief" than "the thief that is a magpie".

Don't feel bad, I play classical guitar and I don't know half of the frigging names of the songs I play. Whats makes it a pain is that I mostly stick to the baroque period, and since it mostly revolves around the "dance" of the period there are tons of songs with the same names. Dances could have a bouree, a gigue, a sarabande, an allamande, a gavotte, etc etc. So if you say bach bouree you better know the number too, as in Bach BWV 996 Lute suite in E minor bouree, or Bach BWV 1009 cello suite in A major bouree. It gets fucking nuts, especially since other composers also wrote bourees, and sarabandes, etc, etc.
Probably why I stick with metal, you can be stoned and remember the titles. lol

The biggest systemic problem with our Constitution is in the "or else" department. Take, for instance, the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
The problem lies in the assumption of common decency that needs no "or else". How about "Should Congress make a law respecting an establishment of religion, prohibiting the free exercise thereof, abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for the redress of grievances....well, then they'd all be fucking useless and the entire lot would best be taken out and shot." Y'think that would do a wee bit more to command their attention?
Where are the lifetime bans on snarfing from the public trough? Where are the "if any act by a legislator be found unconstitutional, said legislator shall be ejected from public service for the remainder of his life and all votes stricken from the public record (and any acts where such legislator was the deciding vote shall be void).
Elected government service should rightfully be a balancing act on a tightwire, continually trying to bridge the gap between citizens of disparate interests in search of the common good. Personal doom accentuates this, where continuous politicking leads inevitably to setting one group against another.

Here's the thing -- and, sad to say, the Founders inevitably missed it because the population of the US in 1780 was only 2.78 million -- the MINIMUM penalty for acting against a Constitutional directive should be to go home and never again act at a Federal level.
"Congress shall make no law...." + "congress makes the law" should rightfully argue for a dismissal of congress, and lifetime bar for readmission for all parties. The only reason that we have a "political class" at all -- not to mention one that is so antithetical to our interests -- is that our Founders incorporate lifetime bans in their government of 2.78 million people.
