Mark Steyn is exactly right. Some are saying we need programs like Prism to catch the Tsarnev's and Major Hassan types (which it didn't). In reality we'd be better off just enforcing existing laws and dropping the pretense of political correctness. Nice way of tying immigration reform to the latest scandal. The Senate is still trying to pass that turd.

How did all these Tsarnaevs-in-waiting wind up living in the United States? They were let in by the Government, and many of them were let in in the years since 9/11, when we were supposedly on permanent “orange alert”. The same bureaucracy that takes the terror threat so seriously that it needs the phone and Internet records of hundreds of millions of law-abiding persons would never dream of doing a little more pre-screening in its immigration system – by, say, according a graduate of a Yemeni madrassah a little more scrutiny than a Slovene or Fijian. The President has unilaterally suspended the immigration laws of the United States, and his Attorney-General prosecutes those states such as Arizona who remain quaintly attached to them. The ID three of the 9/11 hijackers acquired in the 7-Eleven parking lot in Falls Church, Virginia and used to board the plane that day is part of a vast ongoing subversion of American sovereignty with which many states and so-called “sanctuary cities” actively collude.

As for Major Hasan, who needs surveillance? He put “Soldier of Allah” on his business card and gave a PowerPoint presentation to his military colleagues on what he’d like to do to infidels – and nobody said a word, lest they got tied up in sensitivity-training hell for six months.

Is The War On Terror Over Or Not?

So what's the dealio? If the War on Terror is over and the administration views terrorism through a pre 9/11 prism, why is the administration assembling and wielding the most powerful and intrusive systems of surveillance ever conceived?

President Obama is now caught in a trap of his own making. By downplaying the threat and trying to create an atmosphere of peace and normality in the country, he has delegitimated the measures he believes that our safety requires. Having tried and failed to keep these secrets dark and hidden, he must now try to explain what many Americans will find inexplicable. If the terrorists are really on the run, and we can finally go back to a 9/10 state of mind, why are you assembling and wielding the most powerful and intrusive systems of surveillance ever conceived?

Ethical Misbehavior

Yes, it is true, it starts at the top. With all of these scandals (and I do include the Secret Service and military scandals), one has to wonder how much of our Congressional and current Administration behavior is to blame. Why follow the rules, the law, when the Senate blows off completing a budget for years? A congressman tweets his weiner and now runs for Mayor. IRS agents and management flagrantly violate the law but get put on paid leave or allowed to retire with full benefits. Susan Rice lies to the country on national TV and gets promoted to be the President's National Security Advisor. Bad behavior will continue when no punishments are handed out.

What we found was a small circle of certifiably bad actors who acted without regard for the law or for anyone else. Surrounding this inner circle was a culture that gave these employees tacit permission to run roughshod over others and break the law.

While lower-level Enron employees did their jobs honorably, senior management cultivated a malignant esprit de corps that corroded the company's ethics. The C-Suite view was that no one was smarter, faster or more aggressive than these executives. Mortals couldn't possibly understand what they did. That belief created its own closed-system logic, leading to deceptive accounting schemes, self-dealing and, ultimately, a battery of criminal convictions for Enron's top brass.


Sounds like the DoJ, IRS, ATF and the Administration.

Firearm Nick Names

Peaches mentioned she named her new firearm "Fluffy" so I wondered what firearm nick names were out there. What are your favorite firearm nicknames?

The earliest nicknames I’ve been able to uncover date back to the 18th century. Small, large-caliber pistols were called “Snappers, “Barkers” or “Bulldogs,” the latter term coming down to this day, and along the way achieving trademark status.

AKAs such as “Heater, ” Shooting iron,” “Smoke Pole” and Persuader” are pretty easy to figure out, as are “Saturday Night Special,” “Suicide Special” and “Flyapart ,” the latter a trio of terms to describe cheaply-made, inexpensive handguns intended for limited, somewhat specialized usage.

“Long Tom”, which has generally come to mean an extended-barreled, large-gauge shotgun (it too was ultimately adopted as an official model designation) goes back to at least the 1820s and originally described a large naval cannon. The appellation has since then also been applied to other artillery pieces.

Numbers

It is painfully obvious the government likes to play a shellgame with numbers. How the NSA and the FBI lie with numbers.

Or how about in regard to unemployment? The hidden jobless disaster.

And remember just a few rogue IRS agents turns out to be at a minimum 88.

Bacon

While this is targeted for Father's Day, it really could be for anyone on any given day. Say it with bacon. Smithfield bacon is better though.

Shitty Music Pays

Not too shabby for essentially a one hit wonder. Whoomp! (There it is) still makes $500,000 a year.

The song has been called both the best and the worst of the 90s, spending seven weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1993 and appeas frequently at both sporting events, and parodies. But perhaps the most surprising fact about “Whoomp! (There It Is),” is not that it became famous in the first place, but just how much the song still makes its creators, DC the Brain Supreme and Steve Rolln. Deep within a long interview about the song with 5280 Magazine is this line:

The song generates up to $500,000 in a good year, which is divvied up among the rights-holders and lawyers; DC and Steve might collect up to $70,000 each, DC says.

16 While walking with my kids in the neighborhood, I noticed that my neighbor has placed a used target silhouette on his front door.  Personally, I wouldn't have put this one on my door for the world to see.  His grouping sucked. I don't know if he is trying to deter would be criminals or brag.  Either way, it's a failure and just plain odd.

We called our .38 Bob and the Beretta called Ray, after a couple of our friends and because my late husband liked Bob Elliot and Ray Goulding. I had to sell the guns along with everything else when my husband died and I had to sell the house. I miss that man something fierce and i wish I could have kept the guns, but getting permits in NYC was more than I could have handled at the time.

49 I don't think a "long tom" was a large naval cannon originally as much as it was a longer but lightweight one for longer range fire--say, a nine-pounder as a bowchaser, which for some frigates would have been comparable to the broadside armanent (smaller ones of 24-32 guns, not our American 44s/38s). The term is used in either Forester or O'Brian somewhere.

I'm losing sleep over my job now after finally hearing confirmation over the scope of fed snooping over the last few days. I've got to train and document, and teach these fuckheads how to snoop on innocents more effectively. I don't know how I can do that. A detective solving a rape/murder, fine. Played an outdoor orchestra concert, yesterday, that featured a totally serendipitous B-2 flyby several miles away in the background. Even given the recent political news, the crowd still went bananas for the patriotic music on the program (America the Beautiful, Stars-(and)-Stripes, National Emblem March). We're not done yet, folks. And, orchestras are pretty liberal places, but there is a fair amount of shock at what is going on. Many of these people are now much more reachable, at least for the moment. There is some foundational rethinking going on right about now, and it is just getting started...

Metadata is data about data.  Info on the data. Pretty sure Bella is tugging at my heart strings. What a big dog!! But then I have 4200 square feet and an acre and a half yard. I told the male bill payer in the house tonight that I was lonely and wanted a dog, just a little bigger than ours that just died that was 5 lbs. He didn't argue. So I guess I'm good to go with a dog that is my size!  I don't live really close to CO but I have a brother and sister that do and I go to visit often. I think I can make this work

I was in college, and a much bigger fan than me (and bear in mind I thought it was the best scifi ever) was going on and on about how they were going to off a major character (to prove that they'd go there) but he was impressed with how well they had kept the identity hidden.

So I just randomly, casually, said as a joke, 'Oh, they're going to kill Kosh'

And he went from crestfallen, to pissed, to disbelief, in about three seconds.

Of course a month later I had to spend an hour convincing him I hadn't actually known.

And another thing about a convention. To ratify any ouput, 3/4 of the states must agree. And note this is state by state, not by population. SD and Utah count just as much as CA and NY. I think we've still got them beat state by state.

     So, if the convention was hijacked by the statists and totalitarians, 3/4 of the states would have to agree to ratify whatever they came up with.

       The beauty of a convention is all states are represented equally, state by state, and the federal govt itself has absolutely no say in it.

Well, it seems the small sample here is okay with a constitutional convention.  I prefer restoring the one we have.

 

If we have a ConCon, and if it goes bad (and it will) and if you try to walk away, you'd better have belted 7.62 to back it up.

 

If your goal is to force an issue you see as inevitable, there are many fort sumpters, but watching your overlords trash your rights in the open would bring more over to the side of liberty than just about any other  scenario I can imagine.

    Again, the output of a Convention is nothing until 3/4 of the states ratify it. It is in the open and the output will be in the open.

   And second, just imagine the mass shitting of its pants the power structure in Washington (the fact these jackals occupy a city named after George Washington is blasphemy) would do at the thought of the states using their constitutional power to tell Washington who is boss.

For me it comes down to a well deserved disdain of the republicans.  They now have to pretend to be conservative in dark red districts, but given the chance to really change the paradigm, they might go McCain on us and throw us to the wolves, and there's your 2/3rds or 3/4ths or whatever.  We know where the dems would fall, they dropped the mask long ago.  Depending on those whose intentions we can't be sure of seems like teh stoopid.

Some years back, there was a pair of traveling art exhibitions that landed in San Francisco that we went to see, separated by a couple of months -- http://tinyurl.com/lt5caxj and http://tinyurl.com/2b9vz8q. The dealio was that the Musee d'Orsay in Paris was being extensively refurbished (it's in an old railway station) and, rather than put all their stuff in storage, they decided to ship a bunch to SF for the duration. Unlike many other exhibitions, where you get to see all the stuff normally kept in the basement, this was a metric buttload of absolutely top-notch, glorious stuff.



The exhibition was put together to tell a story. It illustrated the Salon period of French painting, where artists were evaluated on essentially political criteria to the point where committees assigned individual paintings to specific positions in specific rooms of the annual exhibit....then everyone took their works down, went back to work, and sold stuff like crazy based on the repute of the shown works.



In 1863, the Emperor Napoleon III organized an exhibition of works refused by the Salon that actually managed to outdraw the Salon's art show -- which caused quite a stir. Being a one-off event, though, there was a certain amount of "must be a co-inky-dink" talk. Requests for a similar counter-show were explicitly refused in 1867.



And then, there was a little interlude where everyone had to deal with reality for a while. Napoleon III had marched out against the Prussians and gotten his ass handed to him militarily and captured besides (thus showing the essential difference between the original Napoleon ["Corsican cojones"] and Nappy III ['weak sauce"]). The Prussians, naturally, decided to march in and take Paris after a four-month quasi-medieval siege (wikipedia: "It was contended also that a quick French surrender would leave the new French armies undefeated and allow France to renew the war shortly after. The new French armies would have to be annihilated first, and Paris would have to be starved into surrender.").



As you might well imagine, this was not taken well by the city's artsy-fartsy types. Other French groups essentially succeeded with the "we'll pay you anything to leave" model (see "Treaty of Frankfurt" -- May 1871 [this may also have had something to do with the Germans recognizing what Charles de Gaulle so eloquently stated later: "Comment voulez-vous gouverner un pays qui a deux cents quarante-six variétés de fromage? [Translation - How do you govern a nation that has 246 varieties of cheese?]")

Is Obama trying to assume control through spying on everyone?  Or is he trying to open the doors to terrorists by disabling our intelligence community through leaks?  Is there a hidden program within NSA that a few people only know about,  hooked to political efforts of the Obama administration?  Is this why Brad Blakeman and Ralph Peters are so adamant that NSA be defended,  because they don't know about the secret group within NSA? Or are those two really fighting for the other side?

And what is the point of all of this,  other than continues societal collapse (always a primary goal of Obama,  in my opinion)?

You may recall that the last election ended-up as being decided on turnout. Obama won less of his key demographics in 2012 than he had in 2008, but still managed to scrape out a win.



You may also recall that the campaigns had cutely-named software suites to drive turnout. Obama had Project Narwhal; Romney had Project ORCA. Both were supposed to have enough information about prospective voters that they could call you up and say, "did you hear all the guff about XXX? Candidate YYY knows all about XXX and strongly advocates [insert your position here]" for just about every voter. If you were a LGBT strongly supporting abortion rights, you'd get calls about abortion rights whether or not you were in any position to have a personal issue.



What if the real reason things went down the way they did was that Narwhal had NSA info and ORCA didn't?

On the palm of my right hand, near the base of the index finger. Several months, I smacked the location on the corner of a piece of furniture or equipment, I don't recall exactly. It didn't break the skin but made a deep bruise that I could see as a little red line that rose to the surface over time. I thought I'd have a little wound to keep clean, it would heal and that would be it.

No, it kept going and grew into this little painful, oozing mass living on my hand. It bleeds copiously at little prompting, so I find streaks of blood on my clothes and bed. And it keeps oozing, so that the hardened shell that forms and at least doesn't leave a trail tends to slough off every five or so hours and takes a good while to form another shell, during which time it is especially painful and messy.

I see a dermatologist on Monday and hopefully there won't be any delay in cutting it off and cauterizing the site, which is all they can do for it. It's really hideous, the sort of thing you see kids looking through medical encyclopedias to find.

It's much more efficient to vacuum up absolutely all phone and internet records than to make multiple Watergate style of break-ins. These records would include all Barky's political opponents.

Once, we have their phone and internet records we can best predict where we should ship the exact amount of absentee ballots. We are saving the people money by not printing up excessive amounts of absentee ballots. The correct precincts will be efficiently rigged.

Further, we can have the IRS more accurately intimidate our opponents with less waste of money.

Sure, we will keep our limousines, privates jets  and lush salaries - but just like Fannie Mae the tax payer will get the shaft in an forceful fashion.

It is Pavlovian and has been shown to work well.  The social media and the MFM provide an overt Journalist set of guidelines pretty much daily.  If you punish certain lines of thought or action by dispensing very disagreeable consequences, especially at an early age (think HeadStart), you make rational objective discussion of principles almost impossible, while blindly following the party line is extremely easy.  That's why we have teacher's colleges.
