29 ObamaTax Health Exchange (Marketplace) news:

Total. Fuster. Cluck.

Did my Exchange Certification crap, er, uh, online training and exams (x2) today. Took most of the day (granted, some of that was because I also copied and saved every last bit for future reference and/or blogging).

I'll just say this: if you're comfortable having ALL your personal medical, financial, tax and what-all info being zipped around between SSA, IRS and DHS (Department of Homeland Security?? WTF??), then by all means head right for 'em on 10/1 (assuming they're actually online then).

I'm pretty knowledgeable about this stuff (really!) and even *I* was amazed and appalled at the level of intrusion this trainwreck has wrought. Oh, and you'll be pleased to know that as taxpayers, you'll have the double-mitzvah of paying through the nose not just for your own health care, but all those wonderful OWSers, as well. Here's my favorite part, though:

"QHPs in a Marketplace must also provide coverage that meets one of five levels of generosity ... It is important to emphasize that AV is an average measure of generosity – the percentage of medical costs the plan will cover after premium payments."

And just *who's* being generous with MY money? Oh, yeah.

And to top it off, this just in at the WSJ:

Less than two weeks before the launch of insurance marketplaces created by the federal health "overhaul, the government's software can't reliably determine how much people need to pay for coverage."

Fuster. Cluck.

113 Super postings by Ace & the Defunders here lately...Gabe not so much.

Ace hit the nail on the head w/his piece on "morale." Morale is everything.  EVERYTHING. What is morale?  It is NOT the belief you are destined to win...it is the belief YOU DESERVE TO WIN.  That you are FIGHTING ON THE SIDE OF GOOD & MORALITY.

The D-Rats have demoralized every single Repub leader in modern times, with the exception of Reagan (D-Rat his whole life until he was 52) and Newt Gingrich.  Notice that they were the only Repubs who got any significant victories vs. the Progressives.  And notice that they were the 2 Repubs targeted more than any other.

Speaking of TomDeLay & his successful appeal: The D-Rats HATED that guy.  He was arguably the #4 target for the D-Rats all-time (Nixon was #3, due to his Communist-fighting).  Delay was an aggressive conservative Repub first elected in TX in 1978...when that state was still D-Rat majority.  He was a real working-class guy (exterminator), and he then got elected to the House in 1984.  DeLay became a leading conservative there, and we all know he was able to preserve Repub win after win in the House w/a razor-thin majority for years..  How? Because HE WANTED TO WIN, and he believed HE DESERVED TO WIN.

Boehner has led the House for 2.5 years w/a much bigger majority...how many wins has he had? Because he has no MORALE.  Because he has, yes,  a LOSING attitude.  Because he really, in his heart of hearts, doesn't WANT to win.

Why?  Hard to say.  Probably doesn't want to be a target (like Delay & Gingrich were), and actually enjoys the lack of accountability & responsibility that comes with being a powerless minority.

The Roves & the Boehners & the Kantors & the Gabes...Sheesh, if they'd have just turned their formidable assets to  work WITH the conservatives the past 6 months, can you imagine how much stronger our position wd be?  But they really are demoralized, and they really feel more comfortable with the D-Rats who patronize them as they buy them off, rather than the boisterous TeaParty conservatives who actually are the only hope for our country.

Years ago I used walk every day past a D-Rat campaign office of a prominent local Mass. D-Rat pol (in Mass., 90% of elected legislators are D-Rats).  They had a sign in the window: "MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN."  You ever play sports?  Every good coach tells his players the same thing.  It means, OF COURSE, you as a player can't win the game on any given play, but it signifies that you ARE THINKING about winning, ALL THE TIME, and you are thinking on every single play how you can hurt your opponent and help your team.

This D-Rat douche was running in a district where D-Rats had a 10-1 voter registration advantage, but they were still encouraging their people to "make things happen," and crush the [pathetic] Republican enemy.  They were...NOT DEMORALIZED.  Evil, yes, but not demoralized.

We Conservatives see that Sens Cruz, Paul & Lee are truly trying to MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN.  Maybe it won't work, but it has the benefit of not being D-Rat pre-approved.  The Establishment Repubs allow filthy and evil D-Rat traitors like Schumer, Reid, Obama & Pelosi to set the parameters of "acceptable opposition." Is that a winning strategy? Is that even SANE?

BTW, part of D-Rat demoralization strategy is of course to get us fighting amongst ourselves, but only if it's a horse-race, unprincipled fight.  They do NOT want us to fight about principles, which is actually a rather appealing, dramatic scene.  Notice guys like Rove & Reince never argue about principles, just tactics.

BTW, when was the last time KarlRove won an important, uphill victory, anyway?  WhyTF shd we take his approach?  So he can do for us what he did w/GWBush's social security reform?

Just before I wrote this, I saw a new ad from Boehner, attacking Obama for negotiating w/Putin, but not Repubs.  It's a lot weaker than we need, but it's SOMETHING.  Again, such a shame that he's had a position of so much influence and power for 2.5 years and been so pitifully passive & gun-shy about exercising it.

I also have a sneaky suspicion that a lot of these 50+-something Repub leaders are just allergic to criticizing a [(half)black man, a perfect example of what GWBush called the soft-bigotry of low expectations.  So I guess they are proving themselves to be soft bigots?  Well, what do you think a Gingrich/DeLay House majority wd have done if a WHITE President had asked a Russian official for breathing room until after the election, when he cd show "more flexibility"?  They'd have had non-stop hearings for a month!  And unless the Prez promptly groveled and apologized, they'd have commenced impeachment hearings for treason!  With Boehner, the issue...was never even an issue.  Can't be questioning the integrity and patriotism of our first black President...Who to this day has never had to answer for it.

If the Estblishment Repubs are demoralized by a communistic black Prez, we can only imagine how lovey-dovey they'll be with a pant-suited old harpy.  Ugh.

As Ace put it so beautifully earlier, the purpose of a political party is NOT just to win, but to advance a certain set of ideas and principles that (in theory) the party is supposed to represent.  NOT sell out those principles to achieve a 10% watered down version of the enemy's policy, and certainly not to build up the world's biggest and most profitable donor database.

The historical principles of the Republican Party ARE good and moral.  The D-Rat Party has been pursuing pure evil for at least 20 years.  There is no reason to cross the aisle to these scum, and our party's leaders need to get this through their heads, ASAP.  Else they will be tossed aside like snot-rags, and deservedly so.

Fighting the D-Rats in ways that they DON'T approve of is a start.  Let's get out there and MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!

I was wrong (AKA, full of shit).  I just read this in Rick Reilly's column in SI:

"And even though an Annenberg Public Policy Center poll found that 90 percent of Native Americans were not offended by the Redskins name, and even though linguists say the "redskins" word was first used by Native Americans themselves, . . ."

Just confirmed independently what Reilly says about Indians using the name for themselves before "we" ever did, so I'm off to the barrel!

182 I worked in a McChevron, it only had half a building for the McDonald's. Since I preferred to never talk to anyone ever, I usually volunteered for the grill. Despite the close conditions, we had two grills, one which was used almost exclusively for breakfast stuff, the other for burgers. It's only one example, but even in that small a building there was already room and equipment to serve breakfast all day. But it'd be more meals and storing and fixing the sandwiches would take up more room.

194 Joe: Ebert didn't write "The Valley of the Dolls." That was Jacqueline Susann. Ebert wrote a wacky unauthorized sequel called "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" that was basically a screwball porno comedy. It wasn't very good but one of the few good things that can be said about it was that it was one of the first movies to portray Phil Spector as a complete wackjob.

And re Ebert, I had a lot of issues with him and his basically just-plain-BAD political attitude before he died. Talk about a partisan Democrat. Having said that, I was shocked when just a few weeks before his demise, he actually kinda-sorta came out as pro-life. One of his final tweets actually read something along the lines of, "every baby deserves to be born."

Some fuckwit on the scene apparently found Mr. Chance's I.D. near the body of the shooter, dropped as Mr. Chance fled, assumed that it belonged to the shooter, fed the info to Todd. Todd ran with it. 219 Maybe I should take this to the yahoo group, which I've been too lazy to join, but as a Catholic I really miss Pope Benedict. What Pope Francis is saying has great potential for evangelization. And, no, I'm not confused by the media's bias when I say that the Pope's interviews also sow great weirdness for the faithful. His words about the non-necessity of conversion to Christianity would seem to approve "indifferentism," a genuine theological no-no. The Church has survived worse. Pope Francis can do a lot of good, perhaps, if he embraces some of the "exclusivism" native to his faith: that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and all "paths" to salvation must somehow flow through Him.

261 Scientists working on the most authoritative study on climate change were urged to cover up the fact that the worldÂ’s temperature hasnÂ’t risen for the last 15 years, it is claimed.

A leaked copy of a United Nations report, compiled by hundreds of scientists, shows politicians in Belgium, Germany, Hungary and the United States raised concerns about the final draft.

Published next week, it is expected to address the fact that 1998 was the hottest year on record and world temperatures have not yet exceeded it, which scientists have so far struggled to explain.

The report is the result of six years’ work by UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is seen as the world authority on the extent of climate change and what is causing it – on which governments including Britain’s base their green policies.

303 Sorry in advance for the text wall....... Alright, story and advice time. So the eldest is in 1st grade. (stick with me here) Everyday after school, at nap time, my wife spends 15-30 mins of just the two of them talking. The kiddo was acting weird, then burst into tears. Apparently some girl has been picking on her. Everything my girl does, this other chick has to one up. "Oh, you got new shoes? I guess theyre alright. You wanna see some cool shoes check what I got." Shit like that, constantly. She wants to simply not have anything to do with the girl but, and here was the reason for crying and wailing and rending of clothes, the mean girl has befriended the daughter's best friend. Joy. The wife was very intelligently and thoughtfully walking her through reasons why someone would be mean. Meanwhile I'm wondering how much trouble I'm in if I teach my girl to state "Bitches get stitches". Probably a lot. I just told her that this girl was being mean for whatever reason, but the end result was that she wanted to tear her down in order to feel better about herself. And if my daughter went around crying and feeling bad, then the mean girl will have won. But if you're your normal exuberant joyful self, then YOU'VE won.

Quick story, the company had an all Alzheimer's facility.  One resident picked up a large mirror and was belligerent.  Maintenance guy walked in, told the resident thanks for getting the mirror for him, and walked away with the mirror.

311 “First of all, they wrote in the ruling that I should have never been charged in the first place — that the law doesn’t even apply in this case,” DeLay said. “And even if it did apply, the prosecution in no way did they look at the preponderance of the evidence [and] prove their case at all. They also went after the judge, who was awful. His charge to the jury was totally off-base, and frankly, they didn’t say it, but totally political. I wasn’t even tried in my home county.”

“I was tried in the ‘people’s republic of Austin, Texas,’” DeLay continued. “There is no jury pool that they could ever put together that would like Tom DeLay at all and then they didn’t have to put on a case. This is so unusual that I wasn’t just remanded to another trial, but I was acquitted by an appeals court overturning a jury, which is hardly ever done by an appeals court. And if you read it, none of it was done on technicalities.”

381 Lauren: your parents and mine must have been in the same parenting class. :-)

I was so sick of hearing "just ignore the bullies" by my parents that I stopped telling them about anything bad that happened at school. They finally got the message somewhat when on February 1, 1980 (yes, I actually remember the actual date) one of the bullies decided to teach me to pass him on the sidewalk outside of school by happily putting me in a headlock and gifting me with a broken nose covered in blood. I had to have surgery to fix it the following Tuesday.

I still have anger issues over being bullied, I admit.

He said they'd still talk about me behind my back, but they would never say anything to my face again. I listened to Mom. Big mistake. Tell your daughter to do the 3 step escalation, and then if necessary beat the shit out of her tormentor. My brother did that in 2nd or 3rd grade. When he got suspended, Dad told the principal that had they stopped the bullying instead of turning a blind eye, the beating would have been unnecessary. And when they told Dad how my brother was to spend his suspension at home, he laughed at them & walked out. Better to learn to protect themselves than settle for the helpless victim indoctrination.

437 I was bullied by a fat girl, freshman year, when I was a newbie to that school, far, far away from the wholesome school in Castlewood, SD, where I received the whole of my education. Not even shitting. I told fat, ugly girl to look in the mirror, and tell me who is doing better. Shut her up, and no more taunts or bullying. She dropped out soon after. She was sort of a gangsta, in that she had nothing going on for herself, but had a bunch of lowlife friends, who made her feel invincible. Bullies just need to be stood up to.

454 Haha. They missed me. I have a minute. 9th grade. Big kid, kept back at least 2 yrs, always walked into State History class (last hour), bumping into people, knocking books on the floor, breaking pencils, ripping papers. The teacher always came in late, after his antics. Everybody just put up with the big greaser's crap. Then one day I was standing at the back of the classroom, looking at some Science paper I'd just had returned with either an A or an F, unexpected either way, and I'm looking at the paper, and I hear the Bully come in. He's in Special mode. I hear books crash to the floor. I hear people jostled. He grabs my paper out of my hands and rips it up. Without a look back on all these things, mind you. Goes on and knocks into somebody's desk. That's when I snapped. This guy was a head taller than me, burly, and, well, I wasn't. But I went up behind him and slammed him chest-down on the top of a desk and held him there, flailing helplessly. (Kathy, girl who was in the desk, vacated swiftly.) I just started speed-talking. Told him he does this every day and it has to stop. I listed his tricks and just emphasized that it had to stop. I told him I was going to let him up, then, but wouldn't fight him. He, of course, was ranting and slavering, describing what he planned to do when I let him up. Honestly, I have no idea how I held him down except that my muses were Mania and Hysteria. Then I let him up. His fists came up, my hands came up in the boxer's position Dad taught me, but palms open. I kept insisting I wouldn't fight him, while he was looking for an opening. While we squared off at the back of the class, the teacher came in and bade us seat ourselves. "I'll get you after class, Mindful," he said. Yes, my exit route to the bus led past Behind The Cafeteria, where duels and beatings traditionally occurred. So, at the bell, I had my books ready, and I high-tailed it out of the class, down the ramp, and onto the bus, with Bully in hot pursuit. "I'll get you tomorrow, Mindful," he cursed at me through the windows. It was a long night. And a long day the next day, looking around every corner before turning, wary all day. Wary into the State History class. He wasn't there. Then, of course, I knew he would be waiting for me after class, and I wasn't going to run this time. And after class, sure enough, there he was. Oops, sorry, gotta go right now. Bye.

460 One parting shot about the tardigrades. Some of his comments are a little off the mark...for example there is no "seed of water" in a tardigrade in cryptobiosis. The water is replaced with trehalose molecules that are then "glassified" preserving the ultrastructure from being destroyed by shrinking as it dries out. It stays that way until it gets moisturized. There's a better word for glassified but it escapes me at the moment.

Sophomore year of high school, a couple of football players are standing on either side of the hallway shoving kids side to side as they try to pass by.  I handed my backpack to my friend, started to walk down the hall, and as soon as one of them laid a hand on me I started swinging.  Ended up on the ground with my arm pinned behind my back and three guys on top of me.  But they never bothered me after that.

508 The nuker rotates them already. Do the instructions say "cook X minutes, then flip", or do you have to just know to do that? Posted by: cthulhu at September 20, 2013 12:50 AM (T1005) Maybe the tech got better since I last had one but even with the rotating plate there would be some cold spots next to super hot spots. I usually just moved them/flipped them every 20-25 seconds. Shit, getting hungry for one now.

509 Oh -- and, here, I forgot I should probably ask you folks -- so the big ol' tube TV in the living room has gone nuts. It turns itself on and off randomly and when it's on, the channel keeps incrementing constantly. At first, the BH suspected that we had piled some junk on a remote....but, as it turns out, it has the same behavior when the sensor is covered.

On the theory that something may have gone to its maker inside (a la Admiral Hopper), I opened it up (very carefully -- I know that the back end of CRTs are not safe), vacuumed what I could, and used compressed air to blow out as much dust as I could. I didn't open any of the modules, 'cause I figured that going nuts on the controls wasn't likely to be in the RF sections. It still cycles.

Now, we had already talked about replacing it -- so there's no tears about its too-early demise......but the question is, what to do with it? Can you even give 'em away anymore?

518 An environmental group aiding Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s Virginia gubernatorial bid is airing an ad critical of Republican nominee Ken Cuccinelli. But in one of the race’s bigger ‘egg on the face’ moments, the commercial shows an FBI raid into a business owned by one of McAuliffe’s friends. . . .

ItÂ’s actually footage of a FBI raid of Vitreo-Retinal Consultants Eye Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., according to the nonpartisan FactCheck.org. The companyÂ’s logo can be seen in the background.

It gets more interesting.

Vitreo-Retinal Consultants (now called Melgen Retina Eye Center) is owned by Salomon Melgen, a wealthy Democratic donor. What FactCheck.org doesnÂ’t note is that he also is a friend of McAuliffe. The two have played golf together, and Melgen donated $10,000 to McAuliffeÂ’s 2009 gubernatorial campaign.

There's a fair amount of crony money, as well as people with no great need for money with nothing better to do than try to recover metal from electronics. There's very little gold in this stuff, BTW. I doubt it.  I have/had a working 19" CRT tv.  Works perfectly but I didnt need it anymore.  So sell it in a garage sale for like $20 bucks OBO 2 years ago.  No offers at all.  So this year again I try to get rid of it, $15.  Surely someone would take it for their kids play room or something.  Nope, my sister said no one even asked about it.  So now its just sitting in one of my parents bedrooms because no one wants a CRT tv.  Can't blame them though.  That 19" you have to awkwardly pick up with 2 hands vs the new flat panel 19" tvs that you can easily grab one handed.

There was only one person I know that would take a CRT.  My dad's Godmother.  She had an ancient sits on the ground tv.  It eventually died and so we gave her one of our newer standard CRT style tvs.  She appreciated it, but when someone else was getting rid of their tv that has its own console built onto it we had to go and get it for her, because that was closer to how her old tv was.

Goodwill will take it and decide if it's worth fixing or e-waste.

Also, check for independent TV repairs shops. They'll quote you a price on the fix (probably a board to be replaced) or offer you a token amount so it can be cannibalized or repaired and sold as used.

I was pretty tempted a few years back by a local repair shop that had a RCA 36" 1080i that was cross-promoted with the original Xbox, which could drive 1080i through component cables. Only a handful of games supported it but it made DVD playback look very nice before upscaling was in decks selling for $50.

When I went to college (back in '79-'83), the University of Casual Sun-Bathing had its elite CompSci students working on a VAX 11/780 rather than the pedestrian IBM whatchamacallit that Computer Cartography, Engineering, Business, Statistics, and every other department had to use. I actually took a couple of CS classes on their special system before they shut non-majors off of it....clumsily doing so before they shut non-majors out of classes that required being on that system.

Anyway, I was very tempted to pick up a VAX 11/780 at WeirdStuff one time -- IIRC, it was only $250. But (a) it's less capable than a modern laptop; (b) it's the size of a freakin' fridge; and, (c) you have to hang compatible drives/printers/muxes off of it.....and there aren't any.

I used to know a guy in LASFS who kept a small warehouse full of old mainframes and minis and their outboard gear. His reason was that he was a data transfer specialist. He made a decent living in the 80s off of companies that had switched over to PCs and then discovered a box full of punch cards or a 9-track tape or another obsolete storage medium and no longer had the means in-house to recover the data.

Early on in this career, he attracted the attention of a government agency that hadn't noticed the paradigm shift and thought he'd acquired an awesome data processing capacity for a private citizen and worried he might be working for a Bond villain or something. At one point he expected them to declare themselves to be SHIELD agents, which gave him the urge to mutter 'Hail Hydra!' under his breath until they went away.

Posted by: RWC at September 20, 2013 01:05 AM (LpbKr)

Yes. Late to the game of course, but yes, and it pisses me off EVERY FUCKING TIME I HEAR IT!!!

134 Sailors died on Forrestal that day because of an electrical fault (stray voltage) in the firing circuit of an F-4 Phantom belonging to the Red Rippers of VF-11. The resulting rocket launch struck an A-4 Skyhawk belonging to the Sunliners (WHO! said Sunliners???) of VA-81, of which LCDR McCain was a member. THE ONLY CONNECTION THAT LCDR JOHN McCAIN HAD TO THE FORRESTAL FIRE IS THAT HE WAS THERE, IN THE AIRCRAFT NEXT TO THE ONE THAT WAS HIT BY THE ROCKET!!!

I had to battle this same sort of FUCTARDERY when I got to VFA-81 (same squadron, they fly Hornets now) and heard that "we started the Forrestal fire." NO WE FUCKING DID NOT!!! VF-11 started the Forrestal fire.

Srsly peeps, a little fucking research prevents you from looking like a total fucking tard. Or as my chief used to say, Prior Previous Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

FWIW, Forrestal and her airwing were sent home immediately after the fire. LCDR McCain requested, and received, a transfer to another combat unit in theater rather than leave the combat zone. He was subsequently shot down and spent time in the Hanoi Hilton, damn Hanoi Jane Fonda to the blackest pits of Hell the commie fucking slut.

134 people died that day. We owe it to them to at least have the fucking story straight. I understand you hate this guy, but you don't hate LCDR John McCain USN, you hate SEN John McCain (Rino)AZ.

642 The Pope's interview/article released. “I see the church as a field hospital after battle,” Francis said. “It is useless to ask a seriously injured person if he has high cholesterol and about the level of his blood sugars. You have to heal his wounds. Then we can talk about everything else.” “This church with which we should be thinking is the home of all, not a small chapel that can hold only a small group of selected people,” he said. “We must not reduce the bosom of the universal church to a nest protecting our mediocrity.” Full circle. Constantine's armies are dust. Of course the media latch onto the code words, authoritarian, homosexual, abortion, contraception.

646 The tool of strength is the account of conscience. Pope has a point, there. After reading that interview, then the article by Hassan Rouhani, President of Iran.

647 646 PanzerNashHorn,

Eh...as I said during [pi]His Holy Eminence's last stream of consciousness "gift" he either knows what he is doing or he doesn't...but everything he says allows leftoids to claim to be "winning!"

649 Map: Lancaster, PA shaded for Spanish rather than German, and that might be correct. More hispanics in Lancaster City than you'd expect, but I still think there are more Amish in the county speaking German-ish.

650 648 ...I'm reading, thinking. sven, 647, it is folly to base life's decisions on what idiots will say. Roy Masters' pet cause is deflecting stress, btw. Per Leftoids, authoritarians of whatever region: Government: "Eventually people get tired of authoritarianism. It was my authoritarian way of making decisions that created problems. I say these things from life experience and because I want to make clear what the dangers are." Pope Francis

652 Ace hit the nail on the head w/his piece on "morale." Morale is everything. EVERYTHING. What is morale? It is NOT the belief you are destined to win...it is the belief YOU DESERVE TO WIN. That you are FIGHTING ON THE SIDE OF GOOD MORALITY. 113. Posted by: JewishOdysseus at September 19, 2013 10:28 PM (FWwQD) -- If "Morale is everything," then you can not eliminate "the belief you are destined to win" from whatever else. That you are FIGHTING ON THE SIDE OF GOOD MORALITY is good morale. (regardless of various motivations, whatever works) Life ain't fair. As for "Deserve"? Deserve's got nothing to do with it. As often as not, societies hypnotize themselves to see deceit and selfishness as virtue, what's good for the getting. We've heard the ill founded arguments based on "deserve" selfishness, vanity, even fate. Why would a baby deserve abuse? Why would an abuser deserve the opportunity to abuse and corrupt innocence? Authoritarians maintain their own morale, that THEY "deserve" the right to abuse humanity; even presuming themselves invested with a "god given right" to abuse life via corrupted Divine Rights of Kings. See which god/prince promotes authoritarianism. The prince of this world. "The" Muhammad god without Emmanuel. I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. (John 14:30) ...because the prince of this world now stands condemned. (John 16:11) To which morale do we align our spirit for mutual support? The prince of the world. Or the God of Love. Our Father in Heaven whose kingdom is not of this world. Our American nation is founded on these truths which are self evident, inalienable rights, God given. In the pursuit of happiness and mutual respect of virtue: Thy Will Be Done. We owe our allegiance, and when united on that firm foundation, our morale will make us whole. Your faith has made you whole. Now go and do not again miss the mark. Faith without works is dead. Life: Good thoughts, good words, good deeds. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will preserve it in eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light. Even more, those who hear the word of God and keep it are blessed! If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Is it because you've seen me that you have believed? How blessed are those who have never seen me and yet have believed! Experience is a great teacher, and a fool will learn by no other. Our downfall? To corrupt Exceptionalism to signify that we are more vain than anyone else, and that material wealth makes elitists more special than the humble, or that one brand of greed or selfishness is more "worthy" than another (social justice does not justify authoritarianism).
