A longish article by Ed Driscoll. I'll just bait you with this quote by Lee Harris on why socialism will never die.
Sorel, for whom religion was important, drew a comparison between the Christian and the socialist revolutionary. The Christian's life is transformed because he accepts the myth that Christ will one day return and usher in the end of time; the revolutionary socialist's life is transformed because he accepts the myth that one day socialism will triumph, and justice for all will prevail. What mattered for Sorel, in both cases, is not the scientific truth or falsity of the myth believed in, but what believing in the myth does to the lives of those who have accepted it, and who refuse to be daunted by the repeated failure of their apocalyptic expectations. How many times have Christians in the last two thousand years been convinced that the Second Coming was at hand, only to be bitterly disappointed - yet none of these disappointments was ever enough to keep them from holding on to their great myth. So, too, Sorel argued, the myth of socialism will continue to have power, despite the various failures of socialist experiments, so long as there are revolutionaries who are unwilling to relinquish their great myth. That is why he rejected scientific socialism - if it was merely science, it lacked the power of a religion to change individual's lives. Thus for Sorel there was "an.analogy between religion and the revolutionary Socialism which aims at the apprenticeship, preparation, and even the reconstruction of the individual - a gigantic task."

Andrew Dice Clay, 'Dads' and PC Push-Back
Chuck Klosterman explains Clay's brief super-popularity as a reaction to political correctness:
Every casual conversation suddenly had the potential to get someone fired. It was a great era for white people hoping to feel less racist by accusing other white people of being very, very racist. A piece of art could be classified as sexist simply because it ignored the concept of sexism. Any intended message mattered less than the received message, and every received message could be interpreted in whatever way the receiver wanted. So this became a problem for everybody. It was painlessly oppressive, and the backlash was stupid and adversarial. It drove artists to linguistic extremes, and it drove audiences to Andrew Dice Clay.
And Sonny Bunch thinks we're now in a similar PC era and Fox's new series 'Dads' is a sign of another popular reaction to it.
But I also think we've headed into another period that helped spawn the likes of Clay. There are a number of critics who spend their time worrying about the morally and politically problematic nature of the entertainments offered us. They chide the networks for failing to understand the enlightened world in which we live. Like the censors/censurers of old-the Moral Majority, the Parents Television Council-they are worried about audiences being corrupted. They dismiss these entertainments as "not funny" when what they mean is "offensive to my sensibilities and therefore not worthy of laughing at and oh, by the way, you're a bad person for enjoying it."
This popped up on my iphone's shuffle a few days ago and since then it's been constantly playing in my head. Which is...okay since I like the song.

4 Cities That hate Their Residents
And so they torture them. Like Pittsburgh where they give out tickets for parking in your own driveway.
Getting a parking ticket is one of those little joys that throws normally civilized human beings into a teeth-gnashing rage. And the people of Pittsburgh are currently so incensed over this issue, you'd think they were getting ticketed for parking in their own driveways. Wait, they actually are?
You see, back in the mid-20th century, a law was passed saying that all vehicles in certain areas had to be parked at least 30 feet from the road. Now, the Bureau of Building Inspection has suddenly begun issuing tickets as high as fucking $2,400 for parking in a space that by definition is meant to park cars in. Just out of the blue, on random streets. This is forcing Pittsburghers to either find commercial lots or try to cram their cars behind the 30-foot line -- one pregnant citizen now has to climb through her passenger door every time she needs to go be pregnant in public.

Atlas Shrugged Producers Looking for Handout After the Invisible Hand Wanked
So claims Vince Mancini of Film Drunk who I usually enjoy:
When Shruggalos John Aglialoro and Harmon Kaslow couldn't get socialist Hollywood to follow through with making an Atlas Shrugged movie, they produced it themselves, releasing it on tax day in 2011, when it earned $4.6 million on a $20 million budget. A second installment made $3.3 million in 2012, and now the producers are on Kickstarter raising money for a third installment, Atlas Shrugged: Who is John Galt?, with a video featuring celebrity Shruggalos Dennis Miller, Sean Hannity, John Stossel, Penn Jillette, Glenn Beck, and that one fat guy with no forehead. WHO'S LOOKING FOR HANDOUTS NOW, PAULTARDS?!?
Okay I get the desire to knock the Paultards around but here he's dead wrong (or possibly very, very tongue-in-cheek). Raising money from people voluntarily for a project is not a handout - it's capitalism.

It's All Fun and Games Until You Fuck With the Russians and Their Oil
As Greenpeace is discovering. They're just lucky they didn't get the usual Russian Somali pirate greeting.
Russia has opened a piracy case against Greenpeace environmental activists who attempted to scale an OAO Gazprom oil platform in the Barents Sea last week to protest Arctic drilling.
The Investigative Committee, the federal law-enforcement body conducting the probe, vowed Tuesday to bring to justice all those involved in the Sept. 18 incident "regardless of their citizenship." The crew of 30 onboard the Greenpeace vessel Arctic Sunrise includes one American, four Russians and six Britons.
Under Russian law, piracy carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison. The activists haven't been charged.
Whenever I had to read ancient works in college I always found I preferred the Roman writers to the Greek ones. Generally they were more practical and seemed more human and tuned into the world as it is. I could easily imagine a lot of Cicero's advice coming from one of my great uncles.
Here is a letter that the Roman Stoic philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca wrote to his friend, Lucilius Junior, shortly before he died in 65 AD.
Greetings from Seneca to LuciliusContinue to act thus, my dear Lucilius-set yourself free for your own sake; gather and save your time, which til lately has been forced from you, or filched away, or has merely slipped from your hands. Make yourself believe the truth of my words-that certain moments are torn from us, that some are gently removed, and that others glide beyond our reach. The most disgraceful kind of loss, however, is that due to carelessness. Furthermore, if you will pay close heed to the problem, you will find that the largest portion of our life passes while we are doing ill, a goodly share while we are doing nothing, and the whole while we are doing that which is not to the purpose. What man can you show me who places any value on his time, who reckons the worth of each day, who understands that he is dying daily? For we are mistaken when we look forward to death; the major portion of death has already passed. Whatever years lie behind us are in death's hands.
Therefore, Lucilius, do as you write me that you are doing: hold every hour in your grasp. Lay hold of today's task, and you will not need to depend so much upon tomorrow's. While we are postponing, life speeds by. Nothing, Lucilius, is ours, except time. We were entrusted by nature with the ownership of this single thing, so fleeting and slippery that anyone who will can oust us from possession. What fools these mortals be! They allow the cheapest and most useless things, which can easily be replaced, to be charged in the reckoning, after they have acquired them; but they never regard themselves as in debt when they have received some of that precious commodity-time! And yet time is the one loan which even a grateful recipient cannot repay.
You may desire to know how I, who preach to you so freely, am practising. I confess frankly: my expense account balances, as you would expect from one who is free-handed but careful. I cannot boast that I waste nothing, but I can at least tell you what I am wasting, and the cause and manner of the loss; I can give you the reasons why I am a poor man. My situation, however, is the same as that of many who are reduced to slender means through no fault of their own: every one forgives them, but no one comes to their rescue.
What is the state of things, then? It is this: I do not regard a man as poor, if the little which remains is enough for him. I advise you, however, to keep what is really yours; and cannot begin too early. For, as our ancestors believed, it is too late to spare when you reach the dregs of the cask. Of that which remains at the bottom, the amount is slight, and the quality is vile. Farewell.

About the terrorist attack at the Kenyan mall by al Shabab, Attorney General Eric Holder said this:
"I'm not sure they have the capacity to do anything in the United States," Holder added. "It doesn't mean, however, we will not take the threat that they pose ... as a serious one."
Thanks Eric! We all feel so much safer now.

Seneca was a Spaniard who learned Greek Stoicism from an Egyptian. He was Nero's tutor, and got to kill himself exactly like the Mafia stooge in Godfather.
Yeah, real modern sensibilities, there. So, Xenophon and Thucydides, a fired admiral and a dis-elected general, are too unworldly? Try another translation.
Romans were statists, to a fault, even the republicans -- maybe even especially the republicans. It was all they knew and all they hoped for. You can learn by reading them, but don't fall for that Just Like Rome routine.

They may be using a radioactivity source for doing some internal imaging of the distributor -- it would make sense that they might ship material from Oak Ridge to Detroit at the request of an automaker's QA team..

I was thinking more of "OODA -- and act in such a way that their need for additional personnel goes up exponentially." Going out a service entrance and hitting the fire alarm on your way out would do that, while minimizing your personal risk. If the terrorists thought that they could bottle up the three main entrances and use everyone in the mall as hostages, they get to have another think.

Standard doctrine.
Running is obviously best if you are unarmed and untrained. Hiding is the next best thing, and fighting is the last resort, because they are armed and you aren't.

Actually, it is the points that are going to be tested. Normally, it requires a long test period to determine wear patterns and rates. Using radioactive parts, and then testing for the placement and quantity of transferred radioactive material, it is possible to more quickly determine what is going on, in a shorter time.
Next question?

The end scenario, 20 military people sitting in a classroom when 4 guys with guns burst in. They had taught us to put our heads down and do as we were told. One of the "game" rules was: you touch an instructor, even during roleplay, you will be removed from training and fail the course. Even with that limitation, it took them several minutes to get control. If, when they had first come in, 20 people jumped up and said, 'fuck no' ... we would have taken some casualties, but the bad guys would have taken 100%, and we would not have been hostages.
It's all about mindset. Somebody comes after me with a gun, especially somebody looking to pull off something like Westgate, I will fight until one of us is dead. If my family is involved, that goes double.

Thanks for that. I bored the ONT with the whole sordid story much of last year. He was really an interesting character. He actually had a pro football tryout back in the '50s and in the '60s as president of a development company came within an eyelash of building the (a) World Trade Center in downtown Cleveland.
At age 78 he disappeared from some land he owned in southern Colorado, literally without a trace. Presumed dead at the hands of a neighbor who skipped town the same day.

Smaller families produce less crazy ass fighters. I had 4 older brothers and learned that only fighting back (even though you know you will lose) is the best strategy. Because you have to fight less if you always make the attacker pay something.

Some people get it. Unfortunately, even in my line of work, a lot of people don't.
I've never shot a weapon at another person. Probably never will. But I'm pretty sure that if you wait until you're in that situation to figure out what you'll do, it's going to be too late.

Got an active shooter response training PDF at work today, and it was along the same lines. Run away, hide, fight as a last resort "with improvised weapons".
One suggestion was to lock yourself in an office, followed by a sentence to "avoid trapping yourself with no escape route".
As an individual strategy, the overall idea is sound, but I hate how it completely cedes control to the shooter. (who will have "free reign in the 15 minutes until police get there")

Start by scrutinizing your airlines' information for transporting firearms. American Airlines, for example is at http://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInformation/baggage/firearms.jsp -- it is best to follow these scrupulously, as you're only going somewhere because you have a contract with the airline to take you there, and you can bet your ass that contract has an "out" if you fail to adhere to their posted policies.

The idea is to get control of the gun, first and foremost.
I promise you that if I am the shooter and you kick me in the nuts, I can still shoot you, probably more than once, especially if I am wearing a cup.
So, save the nut kicking for after you have control of the gun. Just my $.02

Obviously the person who would burst into your home/store/etc. with a gun and point it at you is somewhat dangerous to begin with, duh... but other than that, and being something of a poker player, would I be crazy to look for "tells" on the gun holder's confidence in his skill? If he seemed especially nervous and "distractable", for instance, I'd think your idea of getting the gun away would make a lot more sense than if you're dealing with someone who acts as if he shoots someone every day.

I was almost murdered by a guy who held up my store. He chased me, trying to shoot me in the head, but his gun jammed. I've never experienced such horror. Even though it traumatized me to the point of having PTSD, it also convinced me to buy a gun.
In 2011 two gypsy women did a home invasion on my octogenarian parents, who live next door to me. No violence; it was an "I'll distract, and you take the shit" thing. My brother--who lives next door to ME--realized what was happening and called me, telling me to get my gun.
I'd always wondered if I'd have the ability to use it. When I showed up, the gun was in my waistband, in my lower back. It's a Taurus .357 magnum loaded with hollow points. I walked into the yard as my brother was shooing these bitches out of the house. They were giving him a hard time, but when they saw me, they both went white and started begging me not to hurt them.
At my parents' insistence, we let them go. My brother told me later that he'd never seen an expression like mine. He said it scared the hell out him. When I asked him what my expression was like, he said, "Death."
I didn't know what I was going to do, but apparently my body and everybody else did. It's good to know that if I have to, I can kill people who deserve to die.

There was a video posted here a while back in which a robber pulled a gun on a cashier, who then pulled his own AFTER he deflected the gun of the robber. Same advice.
Frame of mind. Anyone who pulls a gun on the innocent is not in a good one.

One other factoid -- if you ever have to fight someone who is armed when you are unarmed, then it is not a time for gestures, half-blows, slaps, or control holds. It is the time to shove a stapler into an eye socket, smash a trachea, or guillotine someone on a broken window. While it is certainly true that maintaining awareness of where the gun is pointing is important -- and keeping it from pointing at you especially so -- you shouldn't be attacking to disarm, you should be attacking to incapacitate/destroy. If you are fortunate enough to have the guy disarmed before he stops twitching, you can decide what half-measures to take at that time. It's not a barfight if he's armed and you're not.

It was absolutely the most idiotic thing I have seen since, oh, maybe the last time I turned on the news.
They had a guy posing as a shooter and another guy went to tackle him in a more or less rugby style waist tackle. The shooter still had complete control of his gun and could have just shot the tackler at any time. I laughed my ass off. No wonder people get killed like rabbits...

Nope. Not in SoCal. I can be arrested and charged with a felony if I brandish a gun when someone is on my property. I know the law very, very well.
If the women were in the house when I came over, I could have the gun in my hand. But since they were outside in the yard, by law--in SoCal--I can't even be armed.
The deputies tell me that lawyers are lying in wait for people like me. So I was very careful to not appear armed.

A woman came onto my property and stole a hugely expensive bicycle. She had a fanny pack, so instead of confronting her, I followed, hiding behind cars. She took the bike to her house, I noted the address, came back, and called the cops.
They retrieved the bike and told me to not press charges because they'd seen this scam before: The woman was Chinese, and she'd claim that she thought the bike was being thrown out, she didn't understand English, and then she'd sue me for false arrest. So I didn't press charges.
The cop spoke to me for half an hour and explained everything I was allowed to do and prohibited to do. Where I live in SoCal, I can only brandish a weapon if someone is inside my house or threatening my life.
Every other brandishing will get me arrested. I had to have the gun in my waistband when I went to my parents' house. If the gypsies had seen it and reported me, instant felony. Not only that, SWAT would have been sent to my house.

FYI, Hollowpoint (and others), you can have a holster custom made. I know, duh, but just thought I'd mention it since I have done that once. (I don't carry, but like to use all my handguns at action pistol matches so I need holsters for all of 'em)
I wanted one for my rare Colt revolver, looked around on the web, and found Andrews Custom Leather in FL. He did a very nice job. Wasn't dirt-cheap, but for folks who carry, seems a quality holster that fits you and the gun would be well worth it - YMMV.

I sense a rant coming on....
I've lived through some of what passes for "forward thinking" in manufacturing -- processed based stuff like "ISO 9000" or "six sigma" or, [in the financial realm] "Sarbanes-Oxley", and one of the things that each grandiose, utopian scheme always insists on is that you demand it of your suppliers and offer it to your customers, because that, and that alone, will guarantee quality throughout the entire process.
And I shake my head and sigh, because when you trace back any string of value added processes, you inevitably end up with some poor schmuck with a shovel -- and whatever process guarantees he gives you are going to be worthless. In SarbOx, someone has to read the indecipherable signature on the check and say, "it's good!" In farming, it's "well, this looks like a good place for peaches." In semiconductor manufacturing, which is one of the most tightly-controlled and chemically-pure environments imaginable, it's mechanical stutter with the tools or outright software failures.
And this rests on a fundamental truism -- whatever model builders think they can run with their models, they have to deal with reality.....and the more they put off dealing with it, the worse it's gonna bite when they do.

>>>What eras do you have for Genesis?
I can literally give you an incredible-sounding (near-professional quality) soundboard for every single tour of Genesis's career from 1972-1992. Gabriel era, Collins era, Hackett stuff. I got like five different SBD shows from the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour alone. Great, great stuff from the Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering tours. One of consensus all-time classic Genesis shows from the Duke era. You name, I got it. Only exceptions is the Foxtrot era -- I have a bunch of AUD recordings but the definitive SBD from that period was and remains the Genesis Live album.
Name what you want and I'll upload it for you.

Also note that Genesis were a remarkably good live band well into the latter half of their career. Some of their best shows come from 1981, 1982, 1983, and even 1986. The 1982 tour (the Three Sides Live tour, done in the wake of that live album's release) in particular is hugely underrated -- it's the last time they ever performed "Supper's Ready," and there are a bunch of other great rare songs, particularly a great medley of "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" with "Watcher Of The Skies." There is a well-remastered partial SBD (the second half of the show, basically) out there, but this tour interestingly enough features what may be the one of the greatest audience tape I've ever heard in my life, a suprise show in the legendary Marquee Club in London, a shoebox-sized venue where Genesis got their start playing back in 1970. It's ridiculously exciting because not only is the band loud and clear, you can hear the audience as well.

What the fucking fuck was that batshit retarded state doing (and, pointedly, NOT thinking) when they rubberstamped the Searchlight Strangler back into the Senate against a wave election in 2010? I don't care if his opponent was a witch, a Russia-gazing retard, a deviant, at war with women, a womb-blocking religious zealot -- or a congenitally-deformed puppy with terminal mange....Nevadans voted for a pederast undertaker. I'd rather have voted for a half-rotten corpse possessed and animated by Asmodeus, myself -- and I find it very telling that Nevadans didn't.

On that note, I have a theory about the Biblical Genesis. I think Adam and Eve are an allegory for the first hunter-gatherer tribes. The knowledge they got from eating the forbidden fruit was the knowledge of agriculture.
Their sons Cain and Abel represent the civilizational split that occurred when agriculture became a thing. Abel represents the tribes that settled and farmed and got together to form cities. Cain represents the tribes that became looters and pillagers and marauders.

Nevadans may have loathed Reid, but how quickly you forget: Sharron Angle was nutty. Moreover, Reid may have been disliked, but there was no question but that he brought home the bacon and the influence for a state that needed it -- in particular Reid was a guarantee that the Yucca Mountain nuclear storage facility will never happen. So given that, and given his solid ground game, it didn't surprise me at all that NV voters decided not to cashier him for a woman who came across as being really quite bonkers.

I always get into trouble when I try to tell people that the Noah's Ark parable sounds to me a tiny bit something like... oh, I don't know... a super-simplified version of evolution theory??
That is to say, some species weathered "the storm" of time, others didn't.
And then I also think that Revelation (which Jeff B.: I happen to know Revelation was Genesis' the band's original name) is actually an allegory for individual death, not the universe's death. I know I know, I'm a heretic heathen. I'll go back to whipping myself in the corner...

Genesis' first album (done while they were still schoolboys, which is the only excuse) is actually a thoroughly silly and embarrassing attempt to summarize the entire fucking Bible. It's called From Genesis To Revelation and there's a reason you've never heard of it.
(Truth be told some of the songs on it are quite lovely little bits of pop, but lord is it terribly produced and they can barely play their instruments at that point.)

I have their complete discography, of course (Countdown To Ecstasy, Katy Lied and Aja for the win), but nothing live. They weren't a very good live band during their original run anyway -- too hard to recreate those asshole-tight arrangements onstage the way they needed to be heard. The Dan are one of the great studio groups of the '70s, but I don't really rate them as a live act at all.

I'm an accountant, so I built a spreadsheet. One of the factors was metropolitan areas of a certain size, 'cause the BH expressed a concern with being too far out.....and a couple of others were distance to an IKEA, Trader Joe's, or Harbor Freight. That resolves Tennessee, for instance, to suburbs of Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, or Knoxville -- god forbid you'd be in the central city.
A lot of the nicer areas of AZ are just too remote. They're nice enough -- but for youngsters who can drive a bunch.

They contacted the singer-songwriter who'd created the song, and he told them he wanted $100k for the rights to it.
They decided to invite him to a private screening of the film, figuring that maybe if he saw the movie he'd settle for less; it was a good movie, after all, and being associated with it might make up for some of that money they weren't so eager to dish out for one song.
About twenty minutes into the film, Jeff Bridges's character hears an Eagles song playing and bellows, "I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!" At this point, the singer stood up and walked over to the Coen Brothers and said, "I've seen enough. You can use my song for free." Turns out he, too, hated the fuckin' Eagles. Man.

But Glenn Frey actually did a song in the 1980s called "Better in the U.S.A." on his "The Allnighter" album. Eagles *did* do "Get Over It," which I've seen people here praise. And Joe Walsh is so fried from pot (and God knows what else) that it's hard to take anything he has to say seriously, re politics or any other subject. His music is just fun, and that's about it.
So I admit it: I don't *get* the hate for the Eagles. Dislike? Sure. Slick, overproduced, overpaid. I get that. But IMHO they got their most pretentious period-- the "Hollywood Cowboy" schtick that Bon Jovi is still coasting off of-- out of the way right away with "Desperado," which is by far my least favorite Eagles song. Even *I* have my limits with the Eagles.
But I don't get the hate. A lot of their stuff IMHO was just plain tuneful and fun as well as hyper-polished and Billboard-chart ready. Maybe because something of theirs get played on modern-day AOR radio an average of about once every 3.2 seconds? Hmmm.
No, I don't *love* the Eagles, but I don't get the hate either.

One of the things I was looking to screen on was "affordability v. access".
In the west, you have larger states based on huge land grants that were broken down with large input from political processes. Everywhere else, you have properties whose provenance may predate the revolution....and the industrial revolution as well.
So there are huge and amazing parks in theWest, and I've heard grousing about the lack of parks in the East in both NC and TN. In CA, there are enormous profits made when someone who had a strategic holding sells out to developers.....in the east, they just go around.
There are a ton of subtle differences between the west and east -- my favorite was when I noted that non-irrigated lawns here die.
Posted by: cthulhu at September 26, 2013 10:41 PM (T1005)
- Henley's anti-Reagan period (which last I checked is still going strong, unfortunately) in the 1980s
- "Desperado" (most pretentious Hollywood Rocker Cowboy song ever, along with Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive")
- "The Last Resort", an anti-suburb screed that almost (but not quite IMHO) ruins the "Hotel California" album
Best reasons to like Eagles, if not love:
- Some stuff they did to redeem themselves slightly. "Better in the U.S.A." by Glenn Frey, "Get Over It," and even "In the Garden of Allah" by Don Henley (believe it or not, it's a good song about moral confusion).
- Their Christmas song, "Please Come Home For Christmas." Tuneful, pro-family, their only song to mention anything even slightly religious ("Silent Night") without a sneer.
- The fact that they at least inspired "Don Henley Must Die" by Mojo Nixon.
:-)

Better in the U.S.A.
written: G. Frey and J. Tempchin
piano and electric guitar: G. Frey
Well, they look to the east
They look to the west
The Third World wonders
Which way's the best
We got freedom, we got soul
We got blue jeans and rock'nÂ’roll
Man, there ain't no choice
It's better in the U.S.A.
(It's better in the U.S.A.)
You can be what you want
Say what you wanna say
(It's better in the U.S.A.)
Why can't I make you understand?
It's better in the U.S.A.
(It's better in the U.S.A.)
I hear the same propaganda day after day
It's gettin' so hip to knock the U.S.A.
If we're so awful and we're so bad
You oughta check the night life in Leningrad
Man, it ain't even close
It's better in the U.S.A.
(It's better in the U.S.A.)
If you could see behind the curtain
Life is cold and grey
(It's better in the U.S.A.)
How can I make you understand?
It's better in the U.S.A.
(It's better, it's better)
I think I'll play
Woah!
Nobody's perfect and change comes slow
It's really up to you which way you wanna go
You can move to the left
Or move to the right
You can stand in the dark
You can stand in the light
Drivin' on the beach
On a night in June
Me and my baby
In the lover's moon
They're playin' sweet soul music
Got it turned up loud
Make me feel so good
Make me feel so proud
Man, there ain't no choice
It's better in the U.S.A.
(It's better in the U.S.A.)
Well, they'd be movin' here from Moscow
If they could only find a way
(It's better in the U.S.A.)
How can I make you understand?
It's better in the U.S.A., baby, baby
(It's better)
We got the burgers and fries
(In the U.S.A.)
We got the friendly skies
(In the U.S.A.)
We got the beautiful girls
(In the U.S.A.)
Got the beautiful curls
(In the U.S.A.)
We're drivin' beautiful cars
(In the U.S.A.)
We're diggin' movie stars
(In the U.S.A.)
We get to make romance
(In the U.S.A.)
Let the little girl dance
(In the U.S.A.)
It's better, baby
Nice sweater, baby
What do you say you and me go for a little drive?
Come on
It's better, itÂ’s better, it's better...

Reading the Harris excerpt, I must admit I bristled at the word 'myth' regarding the return of Christ, one of the central tenets of my faith, and must note that Harris' point regarding the striking, point-by-point similarities between Marxism (in all its variants) to relgious dogma and its socialist/communist true believers to religious fanatics has been pointed out innumerable times since, well, there has been Marxism. No new news there.
Christ comes when He comes. As I understand it, I should strive to live my life as if today is the Day it happens.

"A longish article by Ed Driscoll. I'll just bait you with this quote by Lee Harris on why socialism will never die."
I expect better stuff from Ed. This all very lightweight. Comparing one branch of philosphy with another branch of philsosphy is easy - especially when one treats them like apples and oranges.
