— Pixy Misa Welp! Looks like it's fallen to me to weave together another puerile tapestry of the sophomoric and spectacular for the viewing pleasure of the Moron Horde. Not that it's an especially unpleasant task, mind you. It's actually kind of refreshing for a person of my refined tastes and sensibilities to rub elbows with the hoi-polloi from time to time. It helps to keep me grounded, you see. Otherwise, I'd be missing out on all the latest internet crazes like Rick-Rolling and ICQ.
Finding material to share on the ONT is more difficult than one might imagine. After all, the Horde is a diverse and eclectic bunch, rather more hep to the internet scene than your typical group of blog commenters. Odds are, even if you do find something humorous or intriguing, a fairly large contingent has seen it before. But, no matter how erudite a person might be, it's impossible for them to have seen everything. That's why I like to use compilations of extraordinary video clips cobbled together from multiple sources. The one below, for example, contains a few clips that I'd already seen in addition to some that caused my reproductive organs to seek shelter inside my torso -- an unambiguous indicator of high quality entertainment.
Unfortunately, given the hectic pace of life and access to content at the click of a mouse button, the average person's attention span has been shortened to such a degree that a ten-minute video seems to last an eternity. So, while technology has advanced to the point where full-length feature films can be downloaded and watched without the slightest hiccup, fewer and fewer of us are capable of taking in such fare in one sitting. Ironically enough, as technology enables us to consume richer, higher-quality entertainment with greater ease every day, one of the oldest mainstays of web content remains stubbornly popular: The animated gif.
While often crowd-pleasing, mindless entertainment, animated gif's aren't just the cotton candy of web content. In fact, they've reached the level of art to such a degree that some people have taken to creating them using outrageously expensive equipment like Hasselblad digital medium format cameras. Of course, using such equipment requires one to create something a little more polished in nature than the above example.
Unfortunately, not all of us have access to such highfalutin gadgetry, nor the technical wherewithal to create such content. It's one thing to be able to navigate one's way around the internet using a browser, or illegally download copyrighted material from torrents and file-sharing applications. Creating animated gif's does require a degree of tech-savvy well beyond that of the typical web surfer. But there's no law saying a person has to operate on the cutting edge of technology in order to share his artistic talents with the world. In fact, given a little talent, great art can be created using the most rudimentary drawing software available on any modern computer. And there are tutorials to help you do that.
Obviously, talent takes all manner of forms. I, for example, struggle to draw stick horses. I just don't have the knack for it. But, I do have some degree of writing talent and enjoy photography as a hobby -- sometimes making a buck or two in the process. I'm even somewhat musically inclined if the folks in the crowd on karaoke night are to be believed. Admittedly, I don't sing nearly well enough to record myself and post the results on YouTube for the world to see. But, thanks to such video sharing sites, people who do have great musical talent are able to do so, and all our lives are enriched as a consequence.
Take the fellow in the video below, for example:
Maybe your talent lies outside the strictly creative arts. Even though you may not be able to produce something tangible as a piece of music or a funny or evocative animated gif to share with the world, it doesn't mean you don't have a marketable skill. There is, after all, a great deal to be said for the power of observation. The ability to recognize the fascinating details of the world around us that often escape our attention in our busy daily lives is a gift unto itself. With an eye for such details, a person can take what to others may seem like nothing more than a simple piece of lumber and show us something entirely different -- a cat, for instance.
That's the great thing about the internet. No matter how obscure a person's talents may be, there is a forum in which they can be showcased before an appreciative audience. Maybe your talents lie somewhat outside the mainstream and the average person can't really appreciate them. Not to worry. The virtually innumerable array of resources available on the web practically guarantees you'll eventually find an appreciative audience given time and a little diligence. And, with a little luck and good timing, you could very well end up creating something that has far greater mass appeal than you ever imagined in your wildest dreams.
So, don't let the fact that no one seems to understand your creative talents stop you from pursuing them. More often than not, what keeps such gifts from being recognized for what they are is a simple matter of exposure. Many great artists and creative types throughout human history have languished in obscurity because their works never found the right audience. But, thanks to the advent of the internet, we all now have resources to help us actively seek out that audience with far greater ease than at any time in human history.
Tonight's ONT is brought to you by Steampunk.

If homosexual priests in the Catholic Church can't keep their hands off of alter boys, what makes the left think that homosexual Scout leaders will be able to keep their hands off of boy scouts?
They don't believe that the problem is homosexual priests. They believe the problem is celibacy.

I started older granddaughter with a .22 pistol. IMHO, they are perfect for beginners, no perceptible recoil to worry about so you can concentrate them on safe handling until it becomes ingrained in them.
Lots of time to grow into the bigger calibers. Even now, I use the .22 to stay sharp without going broke.

I just go in my basement and grab some.....or open the gun safe and grab some..... or open the closet and grab some..... got a shit ton of .22 bricks and other stuff. Bought it all at really nice prices too.... comparatively speaking...
Sorry. Had to say it....
Stopped at a gun store in Indiana couple days ago..... they didn't have any popular calibers of ammo...... things are scarce.... you just gotta hope you hit your favorite store the day they get a shipment in..... it's crazy out there right now...... good luck to you EC on finding what you need.

Oh... and since this IS O/T
1. It has now been 1 month since the last American Casualty in Afganistan... when before that there were multiple per month....
Either.... we quit chasin... or they quit fightin.... my guess is a bit of both as they KNOW we are leaving...
2. The US Treasury has just released the results of an audit (internal, private) of their Gold holdings stored at the NY Fed. The US (which is supposed to hold the majority of its Gold reserves at the NY Fed) holds a total of 32,021 good delivery bars there according to this audit. Using a calculator...ooops.....the Treasury has inadvertantly admitted that instead of the 'official' 8,133.5 tons reported as Gold reserves, the actual physical Gold stored with the NY Fed is only 466.57 tons. - Sure, reportedly Treasury also holds Gold at Fort Knox, and if multiple prior reports that half the US Gold was held at the NY Fed are true, then +4,000 tons and 466 tons don't equate

The Post office has had their talking heads out and about in the media for the last few years telling everyone that would listen that they are a private entity making ends meet by jenious management and sweat equity of the American postal carrier and your and mine tax dollars are not being sucked down it's giant succubus like black hole...... heh.

There is a *very* distorted point to what they're doing, but the way they're doing it will result in innocent deaths and is immoral.

This is an interest facet of modern liberalism. Take a term that is generally considered a positive by the majority and slowly turn it into something that has no connection to the original idea.
And then they can accuse their opponents of opposing science, or democracy, or civilization itself.
It is an interesting talent.

If you stop to think about it, the Left is playing the same sort of game here in the US that Yassir Arafat used to play on the world stage.
In public the left talks endlessly about peace, freedom, and human rights. In venues were the average LIV will never hear them though the left focuses on war, submission, and subjugation.
Ah, one wonders for a minute what the current public debate would look like had the left not conquered the media much like Arafit won them over a couple of generations ago.

Whatever the number, it's probably much higher than the "official" statistics
One thing that colleges, politicians, law enforcement, and the MSM do in partnership is to keep the folks from knowing the true crime rates in our universities, especially those located in dangerous parts of cities
Going out at night at UCLA can be a risky undertaking, and it's in Westwood, not nearly as dangerous as the area where USC is located
Rutgers was dangerous when my brother went there in the early 70s

So presume this is true for a moment. If 1/4 women are being sexually assaulted in college, and this is roughly 4 times the rate of women out of college, why do we have co-educational colleges? These would be "rape mills" for all intents and purposes, no?
Those statistics only count when it suits them.

Mostly my point was don't scare new shooters who are ready to start. My Girls liked shooting when it was paint ball guns. But when I was teaching them 22s I fucking blew up at them for putting the barrel end into the ground. Yes a major mistake but I should have handled it differently with them. And that was as much my fault for teaching them like I was taught. My dad yelled all the time but it was a shock to them when I did it.

Still even those numbers are quite high. But there is definitely an odd methodology in generating some of these numbers...
According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, the adjusted per-capita victimization rate of rape has declined from about 2.4 per 1000 people (age 12 and above) in 1980 to about 0.4 per 1000 people, a decline of about 85%.[19] But other government surveys, such as the Sexual Victimization of College Women study, critique the NCVS on the basis it includes only those acts perceived as crimes by the victim, and report a higher victimization rate.
[snip]
Drug use, especially alcohol, is frequently involved in rape. In 47% of rapes, both the victim and the perpetrator had been drinking. In 17%, only the perpetrator had been. 7% of the time, only the victim had been drinking. Rapes where neither the victim nor the perpetrator had been drinking were 29% of all rapes.
Overall though this does point to the pointlessness of feminism in actually resolving issues.
If co-educational colleges are experiencing rape at the levels claimed they should be closed. This shouldn't be just a talking point to feel good about slamming American culture.

Mine are 24 and 26 now. I have 2 Makarovs I should tell them if they shoot with me they can have one. And try to be a better teacher. The other option may be to give them a gift card for CCW training at a local range and tell them they get one if they get it the permit and can sell the gun or use it. Option 2 is probably my best bet.

In any "green" option think how efficient in total cost it is. Does the electricity of running pumps 24/7 to do aqua-ponics save you money at the end? Or are the cost of pumps that make it work cost effective? The equipment for any green crap has cost and just like a car a electric that does the same thing as a gas car at $15K will pay for twice the difference in cost over the life of the car.

Well, Sony's reveal of the PS4 happened. It felt very much like a press conference that you have at the E3 the year before you do the big blowout reveal. Can't say there was really anything that made me sit up and say that's cool outside of the social aspects and 8 gigs of GDDR5 (which makes me fearful of the price as that stuff isn't cheap).
I couldn't help giggle that Sony swiped the Kinect from Microsoft. And hopefully remote play this gen isn't a steaming pile of shit.
Killzone didn't look that hot in the graphics department and gameplay-wise it looked like the same uninspiring crap that filled the other games in the series.
I don't see Capcom hitting the tech demo levels of that Deep Down, it reminded me off all the target renders that Sony used to launch the PS3. That being said, as a fan of Dragon's Dogma, I'm very curious in them going full blown Elder Scrolls clone.
It was interesting in when they finally showed off Watch Dogs on console hardware that it was a horrible mess of screen tearing.
Still don't grasp what it actually was that Media Molecule showed other than a virtual clay sculpting program.
Matt Southern of Evolution Studios shouldn't be in front of people in public, it was like 20 minutes of him acting like he was shitting his pants and what he showed didn't look any better as it reminded me of something you would see as f2p on itunes but it looked really damn early.
Don't under stand why Square flew people out to the show from Japan as all they did was reshow a tech demo and told people to be hyped for them unveiling a new Final Fantasy at E3.
Please God, no more inFamous crap. I hate that series more than I hate Killzone. Though I guess on a positive is that they didn't show anything so hopefully it's better I guess.
Wish I could say anything about The Witness and new Quantic Dream tech but when you bring up the living embodiment of a turd Jonathan Blow and wannabe Hollywood hack David Cage back to back, I WILL tune out.
Yay, Blizzard! Now here is your port of shitty Diablo 3.
Whole lot of nothing from Activision/Bungie that wasn't shown last week outside of exclusive content for Sony (PS3 or PS4 they didn't say)

Everything I've read about the Ruger 10-22 leads me to believe it's crap. I was looking at something for an Appleseed gun and the only thing the Ruger has going for it is a wooden stock. You have to change the trigger (so it seems, everyone does), you have to install sling swivels, and of course they recommend different sights but that's for all of them. I want a Marlin 795. Nothing at all wrong with the Remington, it's a good gun made by a quality manufacturer.

512 509 A co-worker bought a fairly new car from a dealership years and years ago. The check never hit his bank account... he waited 9 months or so and paid off the loan. $9k. Ca ching.

Hell yea. There's something to be said for crappy accounting. If it was $10 and me and the clerk, I'd gladly point out the discrepancy. But $9000? You better do it.

The older I get, the more I regret every little time I did something dishonest or dishonorable. None of them were worth it -- at any amount. I can't get past feeling shitty about myself about that stuff, and I suffer when I feel that way.
If you are a young person, I suggest you keep your regrets to a minimum now because, at least for me, they keep magnifying as I go along. If you are old enough to know it will never bother you, so be it.

Actually I'm not. Everyone I know who buys one (at last count, three) pays about a hundred more for it than the Marlin goes for and needs to change the trigger right out of the box to get a good trigger feel. Everything I've seen and read about the Ruger tells me the only thing it has going for it is a good advertising department and a hell of an aftermarket. Once you dump another hundred or so into it it's as good as the Marlin is straight out of the box...for only twice the money...
Back to work now. Later roonz and roonettez!

BTW, Word completely sux. I miss Wordperfect in a big way. Thanks to some gov't shit that torpedoed MS buying out Corel I ended us stuck with Word by client preferences. Shit. Shit. Shit.
And, finally, you know what is more boring than writing specifications? Me neither.

It's an old design I am wanting to customize it for close in work so I'll probably find a cheap featherlight and start clipping coupons to keep my poor gunsmith in gasoline....

I failed to buy an Ohio Highway patrol Arsenal trade in that I could kick myself for....
the ejection mechanism being straight down is nice.

The Win 97s had seen a lot of hard use and the Auto-5 Trench when available was not weatherized for the jungle so much...
the Ithaca 37 only being exposed action wise from below was a godsend during Monsoon season, and gravity fed ejection keeps blur motion from drawing attention to your position....
for some reason no OPFOR we've ever faced has enjoyed the 12 gauge's charms as much as our salesmen have enjoyed giving exposure to said charms.

yeah I liked the Mossy I had back in the 90s...I think they get a bad rap for the most part.
That said they are a lot more finicky a system that the Remmy....
I like my Mossy so much I wound up Fwench kissing it when I got a little cute at the range

It's probably an easy fix for a pro, I'd hunt your local police armorer and take the risk on buying an hour of his time.
I got my Remmy from my Gunsmith and it's a beaut an Indiana State Prison trade in....
ruggedized and slicked up....

Yes, I bought a case earlier today at that price. I'll need something to do during my furloughing and I doubt I'll be able to afford ammo at that point.
