You've already lived the good old days.
The Warsaw Rising, the uprisings at Treblinka and Sobibor, the various mutinies of brenners, were all born of hopelessness. But then utter hopelessness engenders not only resistance and uprisings but also a yearning to be executed as quickly as possible.

This is the best example for paying attention that I have ever heard.
First-year students at the Purdue Vet School were attending their first
anatomy class with a real dead cow.. They all gathered around the surgery
table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started
the class by telling them, "In Veterinary medicine it is necessary to
have two important qualities as a doctor. The first is that you not be
disgusted by anything involving the animal's body." For an example, the
professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the
cow, withdrew it, and stuck his finger in his mouth. "Go ahead and do
the same thing," he told his students.. The students freaked out,
hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a
finger in the butt of the dead cow and sucking on it. When everyone
finished, the Professor looked at them and said, "The second most
important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked
on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention. Life's tough but it's
even tougher if you're stupid."

In keeping with the doom ...
That reminds me. I spoke with a friend the other day. He's a blue-collar, conservative, small business owner. I thought he was up on current events.
When I brought up Bengazi and Stevens, he had no idea what I was talking about. He was a guy who regularly gets news from the MFM. I know I'm preaching to the choir but what. in .the. shit. fucking. fuck? I told him to visit the usual websites I go to - here, there, etc., plus Fox.
The guy had this look on his face like I did when grampy Herb took the 12 year old me to the Bunny Ranch for my first premature ejaculation. Not the last - just the first.
If we can't get our own to be informed and pissed off ...

played by Jere Burns, btw
-----
I ran into Jere Burns in the desert (Randsburg, CA) about an hour away from Mt Whitney when I was in the Sierras 5 years ago.
The guy is still playing Kirk. I'm not sure if he knew the show had been off the air for 20 years or not. Still looked the same.

Cable Guy solves the thorny border security issue:
* Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.
* Send the dirt to New Orleans to raise the level of the levees.
* Put the Florida alligators in the moat along the Mexican border.

How did your search for language learning software go? Some friends on facebook were discussing what was good, here's an exerpt from their discussion.
My white (emphasis on white haha) bf uses pimsleur to learn mandarin and swears by it - for good reason: after only 2 weeks he was already able to speak and understand more than my friends who had taken a year of Chinese in college. It's really good if you're an auditory learner,
Personally, am interested in picking up Pimsleur for Mandarin after looking into it. Rosetta Stone was one that I heard good things about previously, but people criticize it for not teaching the grammar/rules, though it got points for teaching vocabulary.

PORTSMOUTH, Virginia (Reuters) - A man who admitted to strangling two fellow prison inmates and threatened to continue killing until he received the death penalty was executed in Virginia on Wednesday, the first time the state has used the electric chair in nearly three years.
Robert Charles Gleason Jr., 42, had said he wanted to be put to death despite attempts by his former court-appointed attorneys to halt the execution and have him undergo a mental competency evaluation.
Facing life in prison, this dude forced them to kill him. He killed a cellmate in 2009, warned them he would keep doing it, then killed another in 2010. He was executed on the 16th or 17th this year; I'll give him credit for choosing the electric chair, that can't be the most pleasant way to check out.

Let the NRA buy some commercial time during the Super Bowl. A full minute, maybe two. Pricey, but do you ever get exposure. Sample script:
"Hello folks, I'm Wayne LaPierre, president of the largest civil rights organization in the USA, the National Rifle Association. What's that? You say we aren't a civil rights organization? We sure as Hell are. What right is more fundamental than the right to defend your own life? Freedom of speech, or freedom of association are kind of worthless if you are pushing up daisies because some crackhead cut your throat while robbing your home for money to buy more crack cocaine."
"Right now, a number of Democrat politicians and their celebrity hangers-on are making a concerted effort to deny you your Constitutional right to own a rifle like this one. (holds up AR-15) They are telling lies, calling it an "assault weapon", and claiming that it is basically the same as this military-issue assault rifle. (holds up M-16) Here is the difference. (cut to vid clip of infantryman, demo-ing single-shot, burst fire, and full auto capabilities of the weapon. See? That M-16 can fire 3-round bursts, or fire full-auto, like a machine gun, as well as fire single rounds. Here's a video of an AR-15 being fired: (cut to clip of small, cute, woman firing AR-15 at range, hitting target after target.) No burst-fire, no auto fire, just one "bang" each time she pulls the trigger. And notice something else, folks, that's a very small woman using that rifle, she only weighs 90 pounds soaking wet. But she is able to use it comfortably, because the AR-15 has a very light recoil. It doesn't hurt YOU to fire it, and that's a big bonus for small people, or people who tend to be afraid of guns as a rule. It's easy to become proficient with it, and it's fun to practice. But the Democrats want to ban these weapons, and make it harder for small people like that woman to have an effective means of self-defense. Does that seem fair to you?"
Get the message out there.

gun manufacturers creating a link called "assault weapons the government would like to see banned", and then when you click on the link, it launches code that looks at your bank account and searches for donations to Obama's campaign and if it finds any, drains your account and sends the balance to the NRA

Excellent! But I think we've already won that particular battle, for now. What's coming instead (and will be close to unstoppable) is required background checks for ALL sales, even private individual to private individual.
So add $50 to every transaction, plus build a nice list of buyers for some future 'efforts to contain gun violence'.
After all, no objects to reasonable restrictions, right? If the Grand Gun Grab has failed, time for the ole incrementalism approach.

So, to cheer her a bit, I sent a link to http://tinyurl.com/b5z4uw7 to her home email -- and when she read it, I whipped out a bouquet and belted out "You Are My Sunshine" at the top of my lungs on bended knee....so now I've got a pulled tendon that has made me limp all day and a freshly-torqued knee. But it seemed to amuse her.

You know, I think the American Interest piece has that all wrong.
I'd take the IPAB job just so I could constantly object to the entire framework.
I'd tell my grandkids "I singlehandedly help off a piece of ObamaCare." (Well at least tried.)
Sure we need to cut medicare costs, IPAB isn't going to be the least bit sucessful at it. (If that worked in the first place we'd never have a "doc fix."). I've always been leery of government "negotiating" the price of medicine, because they have the power to legislate it, so when they can't figure out how to make the math work they'll fall back on that.
The worst part is, I've met some of the people who might end up on that board. They're the last type of people you want in control of that much power. They talk a good game about patient choice, but when it comes down to it they'll make remarkably stupid decisions.
Well goodnight.

Evening Roons. I notice I have been checking in on a regular basis between 12 and 1am. I have bottomed out one glass of scotch. Yummy as always. I could do 2 or even three a night but that would make me a fat drunk. Life isn't fair.

Local Seattle schadenfreude: To pay for replacing one of the two Lake Washington floating bridges (SR-520), the legislature decided they would toll the existing SR-520 floating bridge. So what do people do? Take the other floating bridge (I-90), if possible. Now with problems galore from cracking concrete replacement SR-520 pontoons ad nauseum, which generally do not fit the standard of fitness for a particular purpose when talking floating bridges, the SR-520 project is $1.4B in the hole and current ETA is two years out (with probably less than a year of work completed).
So what's an enterprising legislature to do? That's right, propose tolling the other floating bridge (I-90), leaving aside the fact that it is a federal highway, not a state, highway.
Now for the fun part. Seattle is roughly 60/40 liberal/conservative. The people that are going to have to bite it, because they use I-90,
to finance the SR-520 clusterfuck, are screaming bloody murder, they are asked to write down their concerns and submit them rather than voicing them in a public hearing, and the local liberal media is having hissy fits that the DOT/liberal government is responding to their FOIA requests with documents that have the juicy bits redacted (such as the costs of the replacement replacement pontoons and the rework).
I-90 is a major corridor, especially east-west with the Port of Seattle at the west end of I-90. So in addition to ticking off residents, employees, commuters, and other travelers that might never use SR-520, they are likely going to drive business to other local ports, potentially costing jobs.
But oh wait, we have Jay Inshlee to save us. We suck! But it is nice to hear the squealing when finally someone has come to gore their ox.

Wait. I-90 is a federally funded Interstate highway. How can WA slap a tax on a federal bridge?
Nevermind. I don't really want to know.
Perhaps I could ask John Roberts. He seems to be an expert Constitutional scholar on taxing things.
Actually, now that I think about it a bit more -- shouldn't EVERYONE not using either bridge be subject to a tax; you know, to be fair and stuff. There, problem solved.

I don't know exactly either, but in the times we're living in, I imagine that even a tangible constitutional barrier to your wallet would just be scoffed at with these types.

I'm with you on the Stones overall, Gnubreed, but I'd put two or three of their songs in my top 200 list, probably. Don't have any particular burn re Springstein except re typical showbiz lefty fucktardness, but never rated him other than low average musically, either. Reasons for his "superstar" status elude me entirely.

You're in a beautiful position job wise. As an ER nurse, your skillz are in demand across the country, though they may pay a bit less than CA. Then again, the cost of living in most of the rest of the country is a shit-ton lower as well.
You, sir, have very portable skills.

Thank you for your kind words. I have indeed the craft polished over 3 decades in and was just trying to break out in the Movie Industry for a break from and do lament the fact that this other job will not be as of today. I will tell you true, I am a DAMN fine nurse...yet I suffer from the decades of trying to be that good 24/7...anyone else of the M and M's who are of the craft will back my claim....so the loss of this work in the movie industry....hurt me.....what else can I say?

I wish her nothing but the best. Nursing is a very tough job. The challenge for this next generation will be to maintain the "Healing Art" in a growing Government dictum of paperwork and "Outside" influence of practice.
This will seem odd to her at first, yet if she stays, she will grow to hate this.
As I have.....
