— Ace Another thing @benk84 had in the news dump (but sometimes BenK has everything in the news dump), but also worth highlighting.
You will not be surprised to hear that Healthcare.gov will not be fixed by December 1.
You will also not be surprised to hear that the Administration is, get this, spinning failure as success.
CMS spokeswoman Julie Bataille said errors that persist past this weekend would be "intermittent" and, in line with a promise made by the White House, would not affect the vast majority of the site's users. But Bataille acknowledged that some people would still experience "periods of suboptimal performance" by the system due to either heavy traffic or technical issues that are still being addressed.
"The system will not work perfectly on Dec. 1, but it will work much better than it did in October," Bataille said.
The comments came after the White House said the repair effort is "on track" to meet the Saturday deadline thanks to steady technical improvements.
Spokesman Josh Earnest said the site remains a "work in progress" but touted metrics showing that its error rate and page load times are now far below where they started.
The Administration's spin here is exactly the same as its spin on the economy -- hey, it's awful, but we've made tiny little Green Shoots improvements! It's "poised" to be fixed!
Obama has succeeded, mostly, in changing the bar for success, for his incompetent presidency only, from "actual success" to "tryin' real hard."
And Obama's is tryin' real hard-- to hide the system's inadequacy from the public. He's now putting out the word that people shouldn't come to the system all in a rush (which would overwhelm what little capacity it has) but should come slowly, over a period of days or weeks.
And he's putting out that word quietly, just to his allies, so that they can get the message out to potential users, so that his Administration itself doesn't have to make a public statement that the system will break down if it has more than 17 users logging in at a time (or whatever).
In other words, he's, get this, not being honest and candid with the public about his Administration's performance.
The Obama administration is quietly asking health care advocacy groups not to send a flood of consumers to HealthCare.gov next week, pushing instead for a more phased approach that won't overwhelm the website that the administration has pledged would be fully functional by Dec. 1.The message is being communicated in private meetings, including one held Monday, a senior administration official told TPM. Groups like Enroll America and Planned Parenthood, which are among the leading organizations that are helping people sign up for coverage under Obamacare, are some of those to be targeted.
"We want to make sure that those who are reaching consumers at scale know that this isn't like you flip the switch and everyone can come back on the first day," the official said.
The plan would serve two purposes. First, it would lighten the load on HealthCare.gov next week, the first after the administration's self-imposed Dec. 1 deadline to get it fully functioning. Limiting the number of people who are coming to the site should help prevent any embarrassing outages. And second, preventing outages would ensure that people who are returning to the site after being frustrated by its early problems will have a better experience.
The plan serves a third purpose: Sparing the Administration from having to tell the American people the truth, and hiding yet another failure from public view.
I guess the leftist propaganda outfit Talking Points Memo forgot to mention that one.

The thing I don't understand is why anyone would even think about visiting the healthcare dot gov website.
Your personal data is required before the site will give you information about the plans. It has already been proved that any data give to the site is available to hackers.
Notice they are not saying that the security holes have been patched, they are merely making it easier for you to input your personal data without a system crash.

So we've got a government just like our public schools--seat time regardless of performance equals success! Or you'll hurt the Narcissist-in-Chief's self-esteem!
My late grandmother would describe someone with a room-temperature IQ as "not overly bright." Sounds a lot like "sub-optimal performance" of the intellect.

The question should be is this a reasonable activity for a government to be involved in at all?
Should the federal government be involved in 'signing up' customers to buy girl scout cookies?
Should the federal government run a website where customers would go to get on a list to buy an automobile?
Should the federal government run a website where citizens have to sign up to get permission to buy food, or to grow their own?

Someone brilliant made a great point last week about not focusing TOO much on the website. Although it's certainly the most visible problem and we need to hammer on it, eventually the website WILL function adequately and at that exact moment, Journolist 5.0 will rush in and say that anyone who claimed the website wasn't ever going to work was a crazypants conspiracy theorist and they all told us so.
Obama and his lackeys wish the technical issues with Healthcare.gov were the only problems with Obammycare.
Millions of policies cancelled for not meeting the ACAÂ’s minimum requirements, with tens of millions more cancellations in store when the employer mandate takes effect? Not the websiteÂ’s fault.
Premiums and deductibles skyrocketing? Not the websiteÂ’s fault.
Insurance coverage networks shrinking? Not the websiteÂ’s fault.
Doctors leaving the field rather than be bankrupted by low reimbursements and stifling bureaucracy? Not the websiteÂ’s fault.
Billions in taxpayer-funded bailouts (oh, sorry, I meant “risk corridors”) for insurance companies pre-baked into the law? Not the website’s fault.

there is a 4th benefit to not having Enroll America and Planned Parenthood flood healthcare.gov in early Dec.
Obama is trying to manipulate who is in the Obamacare pool.
Planned Parenthood and Enroll America tend to cater to low income people who will not actually be paying into the market, but instead will be getting subsidies and raising prices on the people who are actually paying the bills.
The White House is hoping that putting signing up the free loaders in phases will delay sticker shock for the 2.7million young, healthy, independent people who now have to get Obamacare because their old plans are canceled.

My experience is that Drs. have fee 'schedules' that they must abide by in a written contract they sign with insurance companies. They're 'allowed' to treat uninsured/self-insured patients, but you'll pay a higher fee.
For example; for some procedure like a 'well check' the Dr. might charge $75.00 to the insurance company but you'll be billed $125.00 cash.

Paying cash for a medical or dental service is usually much less expensive than using insurance. The overhead cost involved is much less because you don't have to go through all the hooplah of working with the insurance company.

Several years ago, I didn't go to see the 'rents for Thanksgiving for some reason (presumably work) and thus went to dinner at Boy BFF's house. This was when he still lived at home. The meal was awesome and afterwords we settled on the couch to watch movies and drink bay breezes. Needless to say, these went rapidly went from being bay breezes to adding just enough cranberry juice to make it look like we weren't drinking water glasses of vodka. His dad came in a couple hours later and started laughing about how drunk we were. We insisted we weren't. He said suuuuuure you're not. Another hour or so went by and I got up to go to the bathroom and basically did a nifty fulcrum up and faceplant right on the floor. Boy BFF starts laughing at me and I said you stand up you jackass. He fell off the couch. I ended up having to crawl to the bathroom. That hangover was fun, let me tell you.

The overseas medical market is going to expand exponentially over the next few years if Ocare isn't repealed (there, I said it. REPEALED). For many people who don't live up to the standards our administrative emperors declare, it'll be the only way to get treatment.

Reminds me of a joke I saw in a "disgusting joke book" once.
Two guys are stranded in the desert, starving, thirsty, irritable. They come across a coyote corpse, bloated and maggot filled. The first guy is desperate, and says they should both eat the corpse. The second guy declines, saying that there's no way it's a good idea to eat a raw, rotting corpse.
So the first guy says, "More for me!" and starts scarfing up the meat.
About an hour later, the first guy pukes and dies.
The second guy smiles, looks down, and says "I knew if I waited long enough, I'd have a hot meal!"

I hadn't been to a major local mall in about five years until Saturday and I was shocked. A major anchor store had about half the merchandise on hand from the last time I had been there. The parking lot was about 20% full, vs the almost no-damn-place to park that it used to enjoy.
Yes, frightening is the word I'd use, too.
Unless you're a teenager and view going to the mall as a social exercise, why would you? I haven't gone to a mall in years and years because online is so much better in terms of both experience and price, not to mention evaluations from lots of people. Brick and mortar retail is going the way of newspapers, possible excepting clothing, but even that is in trouble.

.We are losing the Sears store in the Mall here in Lexington, KY. They are closing up on 31 December.
