READY///Poll: 78% of Americans want congress drug tested
— Purple Avenger

Piss in the bottle byotches.

...The latest research from YouGov shows that Americans support requiring welfare recipients (64%) to submit to drug tests, but are even more in favor of requiring Congressmen (78%) to also prove that they do not take illegal drugs. People are only more likely to support requiring airline pilots (87%) to submit to random drug tests...

But if there is a dumb law in place, which has been imposed on some but not all, why not invoke the dogfood rule and impose it on the imposers? Sauce for the goose and all that.

There's a (possibly apocryphal) quote from Ulysses S. Grant about how the fastest way to secure the repeal of stupid laws is via their vigorous application.

I'd note two things: 1) Home Depot requiring pissing in a cup is a private organization protecting itself. 2) I don't think it's anti-conservative to suggest people getting Tax dollars (either welfare or congress) show they aren't...recreating too much. I suppose there's an argument to be made that if Chicago chooses to elect a drug addled congressman, they should have the right to do so, but I can see an argument that this must be disclosed.

Also The POTUS will do the test but any illegal substance in his urine or blood or hair is automatically considered legal, and will be considered a non issue.

76 True story:

worked for a frim that had a contract with a bigger firm. One condition was that our employees had to be randomly drug-tested just like the big firms employees.

One day, my boss told me and our secreatary that we needed to do a pee test. We drove over to the testing office. I was done in 5 minutes, and waited for the secretary.

I wound up waiting for close to an HOUR. It took so long, I called my boss while I was waiting just so he wasn't wondering "WHERE THE HELL ARE THOSE TWO?"

Sure enough, about three weeks later, she got fired for having some ganja in her results....

82 Posted by: torquewrench at December 04, 2013 11:49 AM (YTMHl) IMO there are a couple of things needed to save the US. 1. The idea of Sovereign immunity destroys the idea that we are a Republic, answerable to the People. The Gov says without it they would be mired in Lawsuits, but make it a loser pays system???? 2. All laws must be applicable to the Government as well as the Citizen. You can't say its against the Law to lie to a cop, and then say its OK for a cop to Lie to a Citizen. Its NOT OK for Congress to exempt themselves from the laws they place on us. These two things would reign in many abuses of power.... which is of course, why they will never happen.

Well I think there are some companies that are really rigorous in enforcing "no smoking" policies concerning tobacco, in that if you get caught you can be fired.  So if they're doing that for tobacco products why not do it for pot as well.

180 Let's just make it for anyone who receives a paycheck or taxpayer funded subsidy from the government. Posted by: Countrysquire at December 04, 2013 12:30 PM (LSJmV) "Dues" for the job. Government funded employees pay for their own test conducted by anti-government interest.

181 For Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham, it will have to be breathalyzer ...

182 Based on Pelosi's actions over the years, I think  all of you  are  right.

183 Forget drug tests. Put live stream lapel cams & mics on Senators, Congress, staff and lobbyists just like all those rogue cops have to wear right now. Constant streaming on your elected representatives and their minons, archived just like Google and NSA. And, get this, its already paid for, up and running you guys! I think "you guys," and "get this" are in the public domain. If not I refer you to my tip jar contribution. Yeah, yeah, newsletter, blah, blah. And lets not leave Cabinet departments out.

184 As a complete Neanderthalette, add in involuntary sterilization for crack whores with HIV.   Destroy your own life if ya just gotta, but, your baby makin' daze is over.

185 Test for Botox too. Pelosi is the perfect example of its side effects on the brain.

186 If we can't drive while intoxicated then why should these people be able to legislate while intoxicated?  Which is more dangerous?  Pelosi and crew were obviously liquored up pretty good when they were working on health care reform.  I have never seen Pelosi interviewed where I would not have put money on her being high on something.  She is too incoherent and glassy eyed.

Since we lost the battle for our freedoms we might as well spend all of our energies now making it impossible for our political enemies to enjoy their rights and privileges.  Use their rhetoric against them and regulate the hell out of the regulators... for the children.

I'm totally against this. Maybe if we had a couple Dem Congressmen on meth, someone would have read that bill a few years ago and we could have avoided this whole ObamaCare mess.

188 "I'm going to break with a lot of you here and say that I believe that the true conservative position should be that the government keep its hands off peoples bodily fluids."

I agree. But equality before the law is also a conservative principle. I have no problem with subjecting the Ruling Class to the laws and regulations they inflict on the rest of us. And if that persuades them to cut it out, so much the better.

189 I assume the question of how many wanted a lethal dose administered to Congress didn't make the survey.
