23 If you've been to Drudge, you have seen that WI and some other states are getting an historic snow storm.  Lots of schools are cancelled today.  On the way into work I heard on the radio that a smaller school district in the area at first decided NOT to cancel class today, then changed their mind AFTER the kids were on the buses.  These sooper geniuses then called the bus drivers and had them take the kids back home.  How many of these kids are getting dropped off at homes with no parents there because they put the kids on the bus and went to work?  I'd be heading up the pitchfork and torchlight parade to the school board.

34 Dear Sheriff Ric Bradshaw,

I read today that you are asking citizens to report to you regarding neighbors who 'hate the government.' I have the sad duty to report that my neighbors have a deep and abiding hatred of the President.

They constantly denigrate him and his administration in every conversation I've had with them about politics.

In fact this kind of anti-administration talk has become so prevalent I've noticed the same enmity vocalized on TV, radio, and the movies as well.

I sincerely hope you will be using all the resources available to investigate this phenomena. It would be a terrible and tragic thing for our republic if these feelings got out of control, and harm came to President Bush.

Thanks a bunch!

It really doesn't bug me.  What was he supposed to say "Business exist solely to make a profit?"

You can't exactly describe complex morality in 140 characters.

I was actually just thinking about this, this morning.  Under certain interpretations of Catholic principles, it might be possible to argue that publicly owned companies probably shouldn't engage in much charity (outside of the standard self-interest based style of "charity" for PR and tax purposes) rather disperse the profits to the shareholders and leave the charity up to them. (Things get a little more complex for privately owned companies especially as the number of owners approaches 1.)

for what is worth.  I posted this last night, late

I am obsessed. Did a chronology to try and get the facts straight in my head about the info in the affidavits about the bombing. Diaz is Diaz Kadyrbayev. Azamat is Azamat Tazhayaker. Robel is Robel Phillopos. Joker is lil bro terrorist. Speedbump is speedbump.

15 Apr - 2:49 pm - the bombing

17 Apr - Afternoon - Diaz drives to Joker's dorm, texts him to come down, they talk, Joker goes back to dorm room.

Midnight - Joker was with Azamat at his Carriage House apartment partying until midnight

18 Apr - 4 pm - Joker gives Azamat a ride home to the apartment after Azamat's class.

5 pm - FBI releases Joker's photo.  Robel calls Diaz and says it looks like Joker.

8:43 pm - Diaz texts Joker and says it looks like him in the photo. Joker texts back "LOL" and says to "I am about to leave if you need something in my room take it"

9 pm - Diaz meets Azamat at the apartment.  Diaz calls Robel and tells him to meet them at Joker's dorm room

10 pm - at Diaz's direction, they collect the backpack, Vaseline, fireworks tubes and lap top from the room and return with it to the apartment

midnight - the brothers car jack the Asian dude, who escapes at a gas station. Gas station is very close to Robel's apartment.  The brothers get spotted by Watertown PD, throw two IED's at them and engage in a firefight.  Car is abandoned, FBI recovers an intact pressure cooker IED from the car. Joker injured in the gunfight but gets away. Speedbump dies.

19 Apr - 6 am - still at the apartment together, Diaz, Azamat and Robel hear on the news speedbump is dead.  Diaz says they have to throw away the backpack and what they put in it.  Diaz puts it in the dumpster, and Azamat watches the dumpster get emptied that day.

19 Apr - FBI takes all three in to custody and interviews all three

20 Apr - FBI interviews all three again, Diaz says they all decided to get rid of the back pack. Azamat says Diaz made the decision. Robel denies everything.

25 Apr - FBI interviews Robel again

26 Apr - FBI interviews Robel again, and they recover the backpack

the affidavits never mention the laptop. They were in on it.

My son is doing a class project on Thomas Paine and I have learned a great new phrase which I am now using often. It seems that toward the end of his life John Adams changed his mind about Paine's "Common Sense" pamphlet and declared it a "crapulous mass" (that's not a typo, he said mass)

So now when I am irritated about how something is disorganized, or written poorly, or just in general annoying I declare "this is a crapulous mass!" and feel all intellectual and stuff.

Diaz is totally in on it.

He goes to see Joker on the 17.

When he gets a call from Robel about the photo being released, he immediately texts Joker, who tells him to pick up his stuff.

Diaz picks up Azamat, and calls Robel and tells him to meet them at Joker's dorm room.

Diaz tells the others what to take, packs it up and takes it back to his apartment.

They stay together all night, prolly watching the news, and see speedbump has died at 6 am.

Diaz decides they need to throw the stuff away, and does it.  No way he didn't know

He doesn't live in the papal residence.  He choose to live the in the communal apartments next to it (although he still uses the residence for audiences but that's out of necessity.)

The Church accumulated a lot of it's wealth in the Vatican during the middle ages, admittedly when we weren't exactly at our best.  But a few things.

1) It'd really be impossible to sell it anyway, even if we wanted to.

2) the church sees part of it's roll as keeping history and culture.  Which in the past has actually been the only refuge for people trying to destroy knowledge and culture (I'm looking at you dark ages.)  So in a sense getting rid of some of the stuff (especially the art) really isn't in the offing.

Even when the church sells an individual church building (due to a parish closing for example) they typically strip it of everything and redistribute the artwork among the other parishes.

Real life internet sales tax situation - now you can play "What would an AoS commenter do?"

I'm buying an aeration system for my pond today.  The local (80 miles away) brick and mortar store was helpful on the phone, they used Google Earth to measure the pond and emailed a recommendation on the right unit with a layout of where to place the heads.

They quoted a total of $2529.95 for the equipment, free UPS ground shipping and $151.80 in state sales tax.

On line, there are other retailers selling the same stuff at the same price.  Walmart.com is about $200 less, but there is some confusion over the amount of hose. Plenty of other retailers at the same price, all with free UPS ground.

Assuming everything is the same and the savings to me would be the sales tax if I ordered from an out of state company, what is the recommendation from the hoarde as to where to buy this?

Note.... the Pope talked about JOBS... not about giving shit away....

Money is a way of keeping score... and in the modern environemnt its value fluctuates because of Bank Policies (not even Government... the FED Res is not a Government entity really, its a board of bankers)...

We need to shft our thinking over from the accreation of Money, to the Creation of Wealth.... ie... the creating of THINGS.

When most of the rich folks today, are bankers, and Lawyers... which are SUPPORT systems for an economy (they do not create wealth themselves... they do not add value to anything)... then the 'friction' inside the system is getting too great...

Add in Government regulatory costs.... and this 'friction' will kill any true wealth creation.

Link in the nick. Law of unintended but easily forseen consequences. Government mandates feed in tariffs for wind, thus driving up energy costs by 40%. Economy goes in the crapper and there is too much base load available, and we will soon need to idle a nuclear plant. When it's not windy we will have to replace said nuclear plant with fossil plants, which is most of the time. Result - more CO2 emissions than ever even at reduced load. Way to go liberal geniuses.

174 O/T, but WGAF. OK, so "they" got me hooked on this "bacon jerky" product. I was driving somewhere at some point and stopped for a 5-hour or something and noticed two of my favorite words. Together. In a hermetically sealed package. Couldn't get me with heroin. Couldn't get me with meth. Couldn't get me with crack. Bacon Jerky, however, got me. Bad. I just got up from my desk, walked 2.5 blocks to Publix (which in and of itself is quite foreboding), and found them out of "bacon jerky". Pre-cooked bacon, however, was on sale. I feel...well...ashamed. And I'm covered in pork fat. But, bacon.

I wouldn't expect him to be 100% informed of economics since he's spent most of his life working in the church. I'm just not that offended by what he said, even if I disagree to some extent.

------------------------------

I was hoping for a murder-suicide, in which he killed his worthless family first.

True story - I called my grandmother up and asked if she'd like to go to a movie with me.  She was in a nursing home, so she was always ready for an outing.  So, I ask her what she wants to  see and she says, "American Beauty."

Ok, I say.  What's it about?  I haven't seen any commercials for it.

"I think it's about roses."

Ok, sounds  boring, but whatever.  So I pick  her up, toss her wheelchair  in  the bed of the truck and off we go.  It's during the day and the movie's  been out for a while, so there's only at most five other people  in the theater.  I get her  all settled and comfortable and she's beaming because she's out on the town and we both cease our small talk and turn  to the screen as the lights go down...

To see Kevin  Spacey jerking off in the shower in the very first scene.  As I pinch the bridge  of my nose  and shake my head in disbelief,  my grandmother says,  "Oh, my!"

And then the movie just went  downhill from there.  And it wasn't about roses.

Think about what's going at that time:  world wide cannabalism.

Human beings being kept in cellars like cattle to be taken out and killed for food.  Women being raped to get them pregnant, so they can eat the babies later.  The strong preying on the weak.  And there's no happy ending, just people dying.

Why would anyone fork over $10 to go see that shit?

Let's face it, nobody needs a pond aeration system, unless they are in the fish farming business. For most of us, it is truly discretionary spending.
