Good news everyone!:Scientists say it's possible to blow up the Sun. On purpose. As if we didn't already have enough to worry about, a pair of scientists are warning that it's theoretically possible to deliberately detonate the Sun. IO9.com

------------
I posted this in the last thread, but everyone moved on...

Years back I remember seeing a documentary about the the building of the first atomic bomb. There were two camps of thought about what would happen if they detonated the bomb.

One camp believed that there would be a fission chain reaction that would keep going and going and consume the Earth.

The other didn't think that would be the case (and as it so happens, they were right). But they put the odds of continuing fission at about 10-15%.
I can't imagine setting off a bomb that might conceivably consume the whole planet with odds like that. So I readily believe that there will a scientist dumb enough out there to try and set off a sun killer just to see if it would work.

51 You know why these people are aimlessly wandering around a pear with stupid backwards ball caps?  They don't have anything to occupy their minds.

They are so uneducated that they are in a state of perpetual bewilderment.  They don't understand the consitution,  or the government.  But more,  they don't understand banking, basic health,  how to raise children,  how to hold down a job, how to read,  how to do crossword puzzles,  NOTHING.

So,  as the old saying goes,  the idle mind is the Devil's playground.  These people have REALLY idle minds.  They are bewildered and bored,  so to get some relief from the boredom (the cause of which they do not understand) they indulge in sex, drugs,  an sometimes violence.  The more creative may surf.  That's it.

It's a waste of human potential.

Democrats are the reason.

They've conditioned the environment in Blue Cities so that reality dare not make them happy; but the cost is rising, the people who can afford it are moving, and the cosseted themselves are adding to the expense (e.g., all those bodies that pile up in the Cook County, IL, morgue... like they all leave a substantial estate). It doesn't look good, it just doesn't.
Meanwhile, I'm in a coffee shop named for a famous theologian, in a red state, enjoying a nice $6 Cali Pinot Noir, and they have Arvo Pärt playing on the sound system.

80 Ya well, there's good news and there's bad news.

The good news is I have new tires on the car, bad news is I can't buy groceries.
But the good news is I paid for the propane that was delivered 4 months ago, bad news is I need more propane. But there's more bad news, I need to renew driver's license and vehicle registration, in person, and take a vision test. More bad news, I need new glasses.

But wait, there's more. Homeowner's insurance wants to inspect my residence; someone has entered the wrong discount code, it's listed as new construction and the house is 40 years old, and the back porch collapsed from the weight of snow last season, or dry rot, or carpenter ants, or something . So I'm pretty sure the rates going up.

But the good news is I've squirreled away a few bucks toward a new snow thrower for when this one craps out. The bad news is I'm short 2500 bucks.

So I'm going to see about refinancing the mortgage 'cuz I'm pretty sure I'm paying too much in interest..the bad news is I still owe more than it's worth at current markets prices, especially if anyone sees the back porch.

So I'm thinking. . . . at this point, what difference does it make?

100 Is that why Mexico is so eager to get rid of it own (+/- 30 million) people right now?

They'd probably gladly swap out their low-skill uneducated masses for some of our better educated and skilled.

Absorbing the wave would be difficult, but an influx of talent could catapult Mexico into a major industrial power in a couple of decades.

Canada started getting choosier about who they let in recently.  You gotta have skilz to make the cut now.

Hah, married, is to for laugh.
I can get by on 25 pounds of flour, 6 pounds of butter, and 9 dozen eggs, for a couple months, especially if I see that deer again in the next month or so. The snow thrower is still running without making ominous noises, but it's approaching a midlife crisis so time to trade it in on a younger model. I don't like having cranky mechanicals around.

The porch I can turn into lumber to repair the damage to the ring joists where the amateurs who built this place scabbed the back deck, instead of building a foundation. All I really need is someone to for bring me two sheets of 4 x 8 exterior grade plywood, and a bag of insulation. With the new tires on the car I can ignore the blinking warning lights on the dash for another year or so, maybe.

So it's all good, just the ice is a little thin this time of year, eh?

I hear you man. All you need to do is put on a ball cap properly, and look in the mirror. You see your normal self. Rotate the bill of the ball cap 180°, and look again. Your image will have lost at least 40 IQ points, guaranteed.

Now there are some legitimate reasons to reverse a ball cap, normally when the bill of the cap gets in the way of sight lines or equipment. Baseball catchers do it. I've done it, a lot, when out prospecting, and I want to look at a rock specimen with a hand lens, and the bill of my cap shades the specimen from sunlight. When there's a purpose to it, it's not a sin.

141 @111 I'm not there, but it sounds like you're gonna handle it.
Wild-crafting your food is a great idea. Tim Ferriss, in his new book, "Four-hour Chef", has a section on hacking park pigeons, for example. Hemingway fed his young family on pigeon in Paris at times. (Apparently, even modern Mexico City pigeons are non-toxic.) Protein, as always, will be the limiting factor, but if you get the protein... bulk beans from your cheapest source, and wild-crafted greens will keep you going.
Notice that I am not advocating crime.
Fwiw, I met a guy who built his house entirely out of recycled materials. Each floor (and there were 4 when I visited) had a different style of windows, but it was paid-for. If all you need is 64 sq. ft. of plywood with waterproof glue... try concrete contractors. Their used forms may fit the bill.

I've tried'm. No taste far as I'm concerned. Like eat'n weeds. They're supposed to be high in vitamin C. I guess there really isn't any 'taste' to lettuce either which is why you put all that stuff on the salad. I can get lettuce to grow, and cabbage, but the deer really like baby cabbage, and I think they ate my white cedar seedlings this spring. Bless their hearts.

Damn wild berries aren't producing any fruit. Got less than a handful of wild raspberries, or strawberries. Grounds too poor I think, unless the deer are eating them too. We've had the rain this year so it wasn't that. If I had to garden I'd starve.

Not to worry. CO2 will be repurposed as a nasty agent of global cooling, as indeed it was in the 1970's.

The definitive version of Poke Salad Annie was done by Tony Joe White, but Elvis also recorded it.

202 Purp, have you seen this?:   "WhatÂ’s going to happen now? WeÂ’ve already started preparing the paperwork needed to continue to fight for the Constitution in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. A favorable decision would allow me resurrect Lavabit as an American company."

204 Joke's on you smart guy.  Come time to repeal, ain't gonna be no petition.

Posted by: Bronco Bama at August 09, 2013 08:55 PM (u3N3z)

205 That is IT.

EVERYONE has to take AMERICAN CIVICS, and EVERYONE has to pass a Goddamn CURRENT EVENTS TEST.

No Exceptions.

Fuck these fools. These are the drooling morons who got us into the ditch. I bet this guy filmed this at Coney Freakin' Island: that looks like the boardwalk, and the various zoo inhabitants who signed that thing were prime specimens.

And I mean "specimens" in the "gimme a sample" sense.

206 Who are they? Citizens with one vote, just like you. That's why we are royally screwed. Not because they have the vote, but because they are so uninformed...low information...stupid.

209 #207 Yes.  All those morons signing were Infowars agents.
