President Obama is considering a series of new executive actions aimed at working around a recalcitrant Congress, including policies that could allow struggling homeowners to refinance their mortgages, provide new protections for gays and lesbians, make buildings more energy-efficient and toughen regulations for coal-fired power plants, according to people outside the White House involved in discussions on the issues. Â…These and other potential actions suggest that Obama is likely to rely heavily on executive powers to set domestic policy in his second term. One White House official said that while the president does not see the actions as substitutes for more substantial legislation, he also wants to move forward on top priorities. Â…
“It is a very dangerous road he’s going down contrary to the spirit of the Constitution,” Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a recent interview. “Just because Congress doesn’t act doesn’t mean the president has a right to act.” …
A "Constitutional law professor" doesn't understand why the Founders wrote the Constitution to deny the Executive King exactly this power.

I suspect Obama understands quite well that in thus acting, he's going contrary to both the spirit and the letter of the Constitution. He just doesn't give a shit about the Constitution. Its intent is to constrain government. Obama's goal is in the direction of radically expanded government. Why _would_ he want to obey Constitutional intent?
As with his idol FDR before him, Obama will simply push and push and push, constantly and determinedly, and in many areas, Constitutional strictures will soften and yield, due to the inattention of much of the citizenry, and the desire of much of the citizenry for Free Shit.

Using executive action, the JEF could create the agency to sell all of the mineral assets on federal land and offshore then use the proceeds to pay off the national debt along with all student loans, credit card debt and mortgages.

Instead of studying the amendments in my son's 5th grade US history class they are devoting several weeks to studying slavery and the horrible choices the slaves had to make. Never mind that at this point in their US history study, having just finished the revolutionary war they should be learning about the constitution and amendments. Nope, we need to do a several week intensive on slavery and how it was a bad thing and they should be ashamed to have been born in a country that had slaves. Well for the minority of kids in my son's class who were actually born in the US. I guess the ones born in India and the Middle East get to be exempt from the discussion, everyone knows there were never slaves in that part of the world. (/sarc)

That's right, it's Congress' fault that Obammy hasn't managed to reduce teh debt. It has NOTHING to do with his own desires for profligate spending, which result in him sending farcical budget requests to the legislature that no one -- not even his own party -- will ever vote for.
Darn it, if that recalcitrant Congress would just stop talkinga bout spending cuts and start talking about "revenue boosters," then all this jibber-jabber about DEBT would be yesterday's news!

Remember that a president can do anything he wants, unless there is a reasonable amount of the populus who will back congress or the judiciary in opposition. Even if there are laws against what he does, they will not be enforced or even brought up if what he does is wildly popular.
Having the press helps. How things are characterized matters enormously and first impressions are what shapes the issue.
If he pulls something big, look for it to have widespread support, not just liberals. He'll throw in enough to get as many on board as possible.

The education system needs to inculcate racial/tribal tensions in children at an early age. I think if they stopped stoking the flames of racism completely, divides between races would disappear. But no, that's not what they want. There's too much money to be made and power to be had in the racial grievance business
As my father likes to say, when he was a kid growing up in NJ in the 50s, he and the black kids got along just fine. They'd get in fights together against the Italians: Protestants vs. Catholics.

This is OT, but at close to 250 comments I think it'll be okay.
Apparently the LAPD is worried that the MSNBCerial Killer may have gotten some flight training during his tenure in the Navy, and so might be capable of flying a plane.
A few things jump out at me from that charge:
1) The guy was a cop but they don't know if he can fly a plane? Wouldn't that kind of be on his resume?
2) Providing he only had nominal training, and so WOULDN'T put it on his resume, couldn't they just ask the Navy, "Hey, did the MSNBCerial Killer get any flight training? If so, how much? Could he handle a plane on his own?"
3) Why are they only saying this NOW? Why wasn't that publicized when the whole thing hit the fan?

OT, but so glad I bought my first firearm this weekend. Mossberg 20 gauge shotgun, exactly right for my requirements. Might have to have a couple inches taken off the barrel (I'm short), but it's the one I was looking for and had been much recommended. Sweet sweet gun. Signing up and taking safety and shooting training at local range next week.
Given the way it's going thus far, in the next three years I'm going to have to hunt for all my food anyway.

Sure, if we can only avoid pesky spending cuts, then we won't have a debt problem. If I were on O's media relations team, I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face while spewing this stuff.
Also, I have no doubt O has reached HIS "debt-reduction goals." Not hard to do when there's a negative sign in front of it.
