— Ace This is a prosecution witness?
(Whoops, I knew I saw this story from somewhere; turns out I got it from @drewmtips' open thread from just 90 minutes ago. Ah well, it's important.)
Here's what eyewitness John Good said: The man in the hoodie, who he identified as Trayvon when shown a picture, was on top of the other man (Zimmerman). Further, the man on top was doing a "ground and pound" on the man on the bottom. When asked if he would describe Trayvon has having "rained blows" down onto Zimmerman, he agreed.
Furthermore, rebutting a key prosecution claim, he says that all the screams for help were coming from the man on the bottom. The prosecution has called a witness to claim the screams sounded like a "boy's" voice. Yeah, a man crying out desperately for his life will tend to sound a little callow and maybe a little feminine.
The prosecution earlier sought to bring in experts to say that George Zimmerman's speaking voice is inconsistent with the screams heard in 9/11 call recordings. The judge refused because the weight of scientific evidence is that such a determination can't be made -- people sound different when they're screaming in terror, and there is no scientific basis for saying that this scream couldn't have come from this man.
So this is a key prosecution suggestion, that it was Trayvon screaming for help as he rained blows down on Zimmerman's head (what?), and their own witness says it's false.
This would be a farce if it weren't so vicious and actually criminal.

Yeah, anyone who believes that hasn't seen many MMA fights. The guy who is straddled with blows raining down on him rarely has much of a chance to do anything but try to escape / contain the attack by trapping the arms.
Good thing all the jurors are women! Not a whole lot of potential they're MMA fans.

I'm still working my way through a report published in Space Weather, but just by what we know of the documented effects of the Carrington Event, it's pretty easy to extrapolate the effects on current technology. I'm also wending my way through the EMP report that largely went ignored because it was released the same day as the 9/11 report. I've been looking at this stuff for years, as it falls peripherally into the scope of my job.

I did hear a comment by a legal expert from a new station that said Goods testimony that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman and beating the crap out of him was in fact good for the state because it proved Jeantel's testimony that she heard grass sounds.

But he spent the last few days trying to convince the jury that Zimmerman was on top, now he wants them to believe the guy on top wasn't landing any blows. So in summary, Zimmerman was on top, whaling away MMA style but not hitting anything, so he shot him. Good luck selling that.

This situation cannot continue in perpetuity. With the constant assault our country is under.. I mean really folks.. Beyond this insanely racial trial, we've got IRS targeting us for our beliefs, Obama's gov't cronies spying on our every move like we are enemies of the state, and now an immigration bill is being passed by people we once trusted that will absolutely CRUSH our society. This is just whats going on in June.

You sure about that? Absolutely sure? Because I can absolutely see the jury handing down the politically correct verdict of guilty of Murder. Those jurors have lives and families of their ow. You think any one of them want to be forever known as the bitch who voted against justice for Trayvon? I don't know, man. Gun to my head, I'm predicting a guilty verdict regardless of what happens from here on out.

If the guy is dumb, you can get a knee into his groin several times.
But that all depends on body size and position. If he's sitting on your chest, the most you can do is give him some lower back problems.
If it's a tackle, you could get the knee in and eject the guy off of you. But that all assumes you're not ambushed and/or you practice these moves regularly.

Well, the missing assumption is that Zimmerman, being a white hispanic, was acting out of the just barely contained hate and anger toward blacks that all white people have. Hence, he tracked him down, beat the shit out of him, and then shot him.

I'm assuming the full straddle was on. That's what the testimony implied. You can mostly protect yourself and run out the clock for help to arrive by clinching chest to chest with your forehead buried in the opponents neck, but it's a 100% defensive position.

Wrestling is the best self defense sport, since it teaches you how to use your body weight and leverage naturally rather than through some specific 'attitude' or 'technique'.
Everyone thinks martial arts are cool until (inevitably) the guy gets you on the ground. Everything that isn't ended by a weapon ends up in a grapple. This is true of longsword fighting as well, which is why you half-sword when you can't swing (why real longswords have only half-sharp blades.)
Knowing pressure points is of course the ultimate trump card, but counting on remembering them during a fight... is not a good bet.

Posted by: I Work for Dick Jones at June 28, 2013 02:11 PM (MSrqi)
Yep. The prosecution's version makes no sense nor does it explain how Zimmerman was the one with all of the injuries (not counting the bullet wound). With the injuries Zimmerman had, he was probably seconds from being knocked out and/or losing the gun he had in his possession. Would Trayvon have shot and executed Zimmerman if he got control of the gun? I'm not 100% sure what he would have done but there is every reason to believe that Zimmerman would have been the one shot to death that night in that scenario. For doing his job as a member of the Neighborhood Watch and wondering why a teenager who didn't live in the community was wandering around the complex in the rain.

White privilege is the willingness to use common sense when making decisions about your own and your family's life. It is the willingness to look out for your future instead of dwelling on someone else's past. It's having the self-confidence to ignore your detractors when they try to pull you down.

There probably isn't enough by way of grounds to justify disbarring Pam Bondi, but she should be driven out of public life in disgrace and never again trusted with office.

Longswords, not broad or shortswords. Longswords require room to swing with any accuracy or force; you can't swing them without opening your guard in close melee.
Gauntlets would usually have a thick palm plate (IIRC) which would allow you to grab a smaller, even sharp, weapon.
Martial arts other than wrestling do not work on armored opponents.

I was talking about longswords used with the half-sword technique. Incidentally, they can also be used to thrust - the German schools use thrusting quite a bit IIRC.

Knock it off with that Trayvon v. Zimmerman shit.
It's Martin v. Zimmerman.
A consistent use of first names is diminutive. It's something that we do when talking to or about children.
Trayvon Martin was physically way beyond childhood. A grown young man capable of inflicting serious physical harm in a fight, to include killing someone.
(As in fact two black Florida teens roughly TM's age did to a British tourist that same year, beating him to death in an alleyway.)
The media are absolutely intent on trying to elide that reality by any means to hand, and one of those means is the resolute use of the childlike first name in all references to Trayvon Martin. Whereas Zimmerman receives no such favor.
(You also see it in the avoidance of accurate photos of the fully grown TM, in favor of ones from years earlier of a much smaller boy with cherubic baby fat.)
They're trying to shape a narrative here in dishonest ways, including this misleading nomenclature. Don't pick up their bad habit.

Interesting fact though, Polish Lancers charged and broke a German machine gun line in WWI, mostly from the psychological shock of hundreds of horses coming out of the morning fog at a full gallop, keening Poles with lances on their backs.
People have an irrational fear of being trampled to death, especially if they had never faced such a thing before.

Pikes
A wall of pikes. There was also a thing, (name escapes me, think the kids game of jacks only much bigger) as a barricade against cavalry also used to slow infantry. You set them up to channel cavalry into a killing zone.
Also a thing like those 'jacks' (from the kids game) that when stepped on caused the horse to go lame, even throw the rider.

Eh, that has nothing to do with sharp - it is a function of edge geometry and the hardness that the sword is tempered. Since you aren't trying to cut through armor anyway - you cut where the armor isn't or stab through joints - I am not sure why you think that is relevant. Also the samurai had metal armor too (no, they did not use bamboo, as some believe).
And you ALWAYS wear gloves...
Sure. I was just pointing out that they aren't necessary.

Ideally you sidestep at the last moment, and describe a large circle with your arms, your right hand grasping the sword arm and your left hand assisting. You use the momentum of the horse and rider to remove him from the saddle.
Or....you die quickly from massive blood loss after getting those arms chopped off.

Western swords were sharp like an Axe... not sharp like a knife... its a difference of the angle made to create the edge.
The would also re-edge depending on who they thought they would be fighting... Full up metal armor, or (as the vast majority wore) leather.

Aikido is a new martial art, but derived from jujitsu, which is a older than dirt. The techniques are similar, but less damaging in Aikido, which is highly ritualized and sanitized.

I think the problem is that we always think of a period of combat as all having the Best armor or equipment...
when the vast majority of folks on the battlefield wore crap...
So there were Rich Samurai... and Western Knights... who would line up in battle... and sometimes fought each other... but most of the time were busy killing each others peasants....
That and we are talking about a thousand years plus of military technology, which not only changed over time, but was different from region to region...

You don't think blacks were treated badly in the South when Harper Lee was growing up? I understand being defensive about the exagerrations and continued false cries of racism but To Kill A Mockingbird wasn't some out of place fiction. Its part of our history and many died and sacrificed before and since then to uphold that all men are created equal. We should be proud of those strides and fight against today's false racism allegations but we can't ignore part of our past.

Western swords were sharp like an Axe... not sharp like a knife... its a difference of the angle made to create the edge.
That is edge angle then, not sharpness, and swords generally have a very different cross-section than axes, so you can't directly compare the two. (Incidentally, Japanese swords have about the same edge angle as western blades, according to Peter Johnsson, the guy who designed Albion's line)
The would also re-edge depending on who they thought they would be fighting... Full up metal armor, or (as the vast majority wore) leather.
I am not aware of any leather used as armor except for kneecap protectors and suchlike (apart from some cavalry and light infantry caps from the 18th century). Padded cloth, yes. Leather as such, know, although it was used a backing for coats of plates.
They were not dummies... and a LOT of the Wests Writings have been rediscovered and published the last few years...
Yeah, I know. I have a dozen or so books on the subject and have been reading the online discussions over at myarmoury.com and swordforum for the last thirteen years or so.

Yori was made individually for a samurai and therefore the material(s) used were subject to his ability to pay for them. True, there are metal parts in the overall suit, or yori. Most samurai were equipped with metal kabuto (helmets) but the remainder of the yori was made from leather, scaled and lacquered woods (including bamboo) and tortise shell.
The only reference I can find to anything other than iron for the armor is in Robinson's Oriental Armor In which he suggests that some Heian (pre-samurai) period armor may have used lacquered rawhide. Everything else I have read says it was iron or steel all the way.

I am a fan of old movies, and I recently watched "The Day the Earth Stood Still". (among others.)
I noticed it was full of Liberal propaganda, which I hadn't noticed when I had watched it years ago.
I began to notice that a LOT of old movies are full of liberal propaganda.

That's because you watch the wrong era's. I love movies from the 30's & 40's and DETEST those made in the 60's & 70's. Everything in between is hit or miss.

@561:
I tend to agree, Jen, most if not all the women on the jury will realize the mortal danger that Zimmerman was in.
The only real question is whether the prosecution will luck out and have managed to get at least one woman impaneled who was already on a mission to convict Zimmerman. This could be from an anti-gun motivation or from an anti-racial-profiling motivation.
It seems unlikely enough that such a bad egg would have slipped through into the jury pool. But if one did, she could conceivably hold out against the other five and refuse to vote for acquittal. - Though the psychological pressure (even if you're on an ideological mission) would be huge. She would know that in post trial interviews the other jury members would be pointing to her and her bad reasons as to why she hung the jury.
I still say a hung jury is the best the prosecution dare hope for - and it would be easier to fill an Inside Straight draw with one card to come.

of Good, saying it is in direct disagreement with a certain large
titted Latina." Would that be the one who said she thougt it was Zimmerman on top because she was later shown a picture of 12 year-old Martin and decided he was too small to have been the person on top? I'm sure MSNBC forgot to mention that little detail.
