Prosecution Witness: Pretty Much Everything Zimmerman Claimed Is Correct

This is a prosecution witness?

(Whoops, I knew I saw this story from somewhere; turns out I got it from @drewmtips' open thread from just 90 minutes ago. Ah well, it's important.)

Here's what eyewitness John Good said: The man in the hoodie, who he identified as Trayvon when shown a picture, was on top of the other man (Zimmerman). Further, the man on top was doing a "ground and pound" on the man on the bottom. When asked if he would describe Trayvon has having "rained blows" down onto Zimmerman, he agreed.

Furthermore, rebutting a key prosecution claim, he says that all the screams for help were coming from the man on the bottom. The prosecution has called a witness to claim the screams sounded like a "boy's" voice. Yeah, a man crying out desperately for his life will tend to sound a little callow and maybe a little feminine.

The prosecution earlier sought to bring in experts to say that George Zimmerman's speaking voice is inconsistent with the screams heard in 9/11 call recordings. The judge refused because the weight of scientific evidence is that such a determination can't be made -- people sound different when they're screaming in terror, and there is no scientific basis for saying that this scream couldn't have come from this man.

So this is a key prosecution suggestion, that it was Trayvon screaming for help as he rained blows down on Zimmerman's head (what?), and their own witness says it's false.

This would be a farce if it weren't so vicious and actually criminal.

When confronted by their owm ME saying that the visible stippling on Trayvon's chest Cavity showed there had to be a 4 inch gap or fabric particulates would have interfered with the stippling Grace postulated that GZ mus have grabbed TMs shirt or TM had created the gap trying to block. Lucky GZ has what 4 arms? This iis a show trial, so bad for the case the prosecution is impelaching its own witnesses.

Yeah, anyone who believes that hasn't seen many MMA fights.  The guy who is straddled with blows raining down on him rarely has much of a chance to do anything but try to escape / contain the attack by trapping the arms.

Typically, no, you can't claim self dense when you initiate the confrontation. But, again,I believe, that if the other party escalates the confrontation to the point where you are in legitimate fear for your life, you are allowed to use deadly force to defend yourself.

98 Regarding Mr. Martin and Ms. Jaentel-- Something that would be moderately plausible is if Mr. Martin had been talking to Ms. about findng a place to smoke weed (would explain being out in rain, looking around), and if Zimmerman had said "you need to wait here for the cops"--without realizing what Martin had just been up to. That might have instituted a panic reaction on Martin's part. It would certainly explain Rachel's actions. Completely.

Its my understanding that Good was listed as a defense witness but was called by the state because....    I have no fucking idea and apparently, either does the state.

 

I did hear a comment by a legal expert from a new station that said Goods testimony that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman and beating the crap out of him was in fact good for the state because it proved Jeantel's testimony that she heard grass sounds.

Not as a hero or anything, just the same instinct that makes me want to stop two dogs fighting in the park, even if they're not mine.

227 I still think that in a rational world, the  verdict would hinge on the question of who initiated the physical confrontation.  From what I have learned of the evidence, it looks like Trayvon doubled back and therefore probably confronted Zimmerman.   The prosecution hopes to convince the jury that Zimmerman closed in on Martin and was thus the instigator.  They will try to spin all the other evidence as irrelevant to the self-defense plea.

Yep. The prosecution's version makes no sense nor does it explain how Zimmerman was the one with all of the injuries (not counting the bullet wound). With the injuries Zimmerman had, he was probably seconds from being knocked out and/or losing the gun he had in his possession. Would Trayvon have shot and executed Zimmerman if he got control of the gun? I'm not 100% sure what he would have done but there is every reason to believe that Zimmerman would have been the one shot to death that night in that scenario. For doing his job as a member of the Neighborhood Watch and wondering why a teenager who didn't live in the community was wandering around the complex in the rain.

I think the state of FL wanted to throw this case within  a few weeks of arraigning Zimmerman.  Their prosecution evidence is so weak I can't help but feel this is so.  They only want to show the black community that  they care enough for it to bring the clusterfuck to trial.  It won't work. 

 

The racial divide in the majority of this country is becoming way too wide to repair.  It's going to be a long, hot summer.

Everyone thinks martial arts are cool until (inevitably) the guy gets you on the ground. Everything that isn't ended by a weapon ends up in a grapple. This is true of longsword fighting as well, which is why you half-sword when you can't swing (why real longswords have only half-sharp blades.)

While looking at this  unfair prosecution there is a 19 year old who has been locked up for a month in  Texas  pending trial regard to a  perceived online threat of violence to school children during a multi player Fantasy game.  He could   get  up to eight years.   It was reported by a woman in Canada.    He claims it was a sarcastic response to someone calling him insane.   He even ended the comment with jk (just kidding). 

 

That is just,  if not more scary to me than the malicious prosecution of Zimmerman.

A wall of pikes. There was also a thing, (name escapes me, think the kids game of jacks only much bigger) as a barricade against cavalry also used to slow infantry. You set them up to channel cavalry into a killing zone.

Also a thing like those 'jacks' (from the kids game) that when stepped on caused the horse to go lame, even throw the rider.

Incorrect (though this is a fairly new discovery- hah! Historians and Archeologists are good for something!). It turns out that European blacksmiths were every bit as good with their metalwork as Japanese blacksmiths, and used many of the same techniques. So, it turns out, that swords really were sharp. They might not have been razor sharp, but they were definitely sharp by any normal definition of the term.

Eh, that has nothing to do with sharp - it is a function of edge geometry and the hardness that the sword is tempered. Since you aren't trying to cut through armor anyway - you cut where the armor isn't or stab through joints -  I am not sure why you think that is relevant. Also the samurai had metal armor too (no, they did not use bamboo, as some believe).



And you ALWAYS wear gloves...

Looking at my Bastard sword... About 1/3 of the blade, near the hilt, is wider than the rest, and 'squared off' so its easy to choke up the grip...

Ideally you sidestep at the last moment, and describe a large circle with your arms, your right hand grasping the sword arm and your left hand assisting. You use the momentum of the horse and rider to remove him from the saddle.

Aikido is a new martial art, but derived from jujitsu, which is a older than dirt. The techniques are similar, but less damaging in Aikido, which is highly ritualized and sanitized.

That is edge angle then, not sharpness, and swords generally have a very different cross-section than axes, so you can't directly compare the two. (Incidentally, Japanese swords have about the same edge angle as western blades, according to Peter Johnsson, the guy who designed Albion's line)

 I am not aware of any leather used as armor except for kneecap protectors and suchlike (apart from some cavalry and light infantry caps from the 18th century). Padded cloth, yes. Leather as such, know, although it was used a backing for coats of plates.

They were not dummies... and a LOT of the Wests Writings have been rediscovered and published the last few years...

The only reference I can find to anything other than iron for the armor is in Robinson's Oriental Armor In which he suggests that some Heian (pre-samurai) period armor may have used lacquered rawhide. Everything else I have read says it was iron or steel all the way.

I am a fan of old movies, and I recently watched "The Day the Earth Stood Still". (among others.)


I noticed it was full of Liberal propaganda, which I hadn't noticed when I had watched it years ago.


I began to notice that a LOT of old movies are full of liberal propaganda.

That's because you watch the wrong era's. I love movies from the 30's & 40's and DETEST those made in the 60's & 70's. Everything in between is hit or miss.

555 I keep reading comments about how the all female jury is not capable of understanding MMA fighting, and have had male friends tell me that Z is screwed because the women will convict because of sweet little Trayvon and his parents crying in the front row. Sorry, guys, you sadly underestimate womens' ability to intellectually understand the testimony they are hearing. I didn't listen to the jury selection process...were jurors weeded out if they had CPLs? If not, then you might be surprised at the women on this jury that might carry. Women have an instinctual fear of having happen to them EXACTLY what happened to Zimmerman, namely, a large framed, older teenager attacking them for everything from a purse , a cell phone, or to be raped. Z's attorney's don't seem to be tremendously stupid and I think he approved the jurists because I believe they realize that women are going to understand needing to kill the SOB even more so than some guy who thinks that maybe Z should have been able to get the better of St.Trayvon in a fight and probably pulled the gun too soon. (Most guys will think, "shit, I could have taken that asshole", women will think, I"d have done the same thing sooner) I can empathize with Zimmerman far more than I can with Trayvon. The evidence is as plain as can be that Zimmerman was getting the @%& beat out of him and was likely to get killed. And most women will think, "who cares who started it", Trayvon was obviously trying to kill Z and Z did what he had to do. I might not decide to spend an evening watching cage fighting, but I sure as hell have seen it, and I can certainly understand that being on your back with someone pounding your face doesn't bode well for your health.

556 Branca over at LI is maybe a little too much of a GZ cheerleader, he gets a little annoying at times. That said, the prosecution's case seems to be based purely on the theory that (a) Zimmerman made an effort to put himself in the vicinity of Martin (b) he used deadly force (c) he's guilty and nothing that happened in between matters. Either that or they figured they'd get Z to plead to something. I think we can safely assume, though, that had a young black man named George Zimmerman (I know, but it could happen) been shot in self-defense by a half-Peruvian, one-quarter-black man named something like, oh, Trayvon Martin, the shooter would have never been charged.

I tend to agree, Jen, most if not all the women on the jury will realize the mortal danger that Zimmerman was in.

The only real question is whether the prosecution will luck out and have managed to get at least one woman impaneled who was already on a mission to convict Zimmerman. This could be from an anti-gun motivation or from an anti-racial-profiling motivation.
It seems unlikely enough that such a bad egg would have slipped through into the jury pool. But if one did, she could conceivably hold out against the other five and refuse to vote for acquittal. - Though the psychological pressure (even if you're on an ideological mission) would be huge. She would know that in post trial interviews the other jury members would be pointing to her and her bad reasons as to why she hung the jury.

I still say a hung jury is the best the prosecution dare hope for - and it would be easier to fill an Inside Straight draw with one card to come.
