— andy Universal biometric IDs for every American? What could go wrong?
The immigration reform measure the Senate began debating yesterday would create a national biometric database of virtually every adult in the U.S., in what privacy groups fear could be the first step to a ubiquitous national identification system.Buried in the more than 800 pages of the bipartisan legislation (.pdf) is language mandating the creation of the innocuously-named “photo tool,” a massive federal database administered by the Department of Homeland Security and containing names, ages, Social Security numbers and photographs of everyone in the country with a driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID.
Seriously, You Guys. It's not like it's a tattoo or anything.

So neither Mexican landscapers nor Somalian muslims will have any worries about undue scrutiny of their movements and actions. But Big Brother will be watching those dangerous pot-lucking Lutherans and Tea Party Ralliers what pick up after themselves, denying the poor hard working union parksworkers a change at overtime.

My handprint had to be re-read and my access reset about a dozen times in the first year. It sucks when your weight is fluctuating or if you are susceptible to swelling in the hands.
It would be sort of hard to pull the dead hand out and flop it on the reader when there is an armed guard or two at the portals.

I want every politician to be scared shitless that this will be a career-ender. this kind of stuff will be the least of my worries if we legalize 20 million new immigrants.
Obviously, deep-blue districts can safely go along with whatever the hell this thing says, but red and purple states need a good reason to deep six this thing.
I'm actually optimistic that it will go down in flames after the gun control bill failed. It might get through the Senate, but I don't see it going through the House.

I see that there is a new book out, Let Me Stand Alone: The Journals of Rachel Corrie.
"Rachel CorrieÂ’s determination to make a better, more peaceful world took her from Olympia, Washington, to the Middle East, where she died in 2003 while trying to block the demolition of a Palestinian familyÂ’s home in the Gaza Strip. A twenty-three-year-old American activist, Corrie also possessed a striking gift for poetry, writing, and drawing. Let Me Stand Alone, a selection of her journals and letters as chosen by her family, reveals her story in her own hand, from her precocious reflections as a young girl to her final e-mails. CorrieÂ’s words - whether writing about the looming issues of our time or the ordinary angst of an American teen - bring to life all that it means to come of age: a dawning sense of self, a thirst for oneÂ’s own ideals, and an evolving connection to others, near and far."

We never have much of a chance to Skype him since we was sent to Korea, but he did have a chance to briefly tell his dad early yesterday that he's been putting in long hours (4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and as an NCO is in charge of logistics for 600+ Marines and their equipment, etc. He's received commendation from his commander. We're so proud of the man he's become. *tears up*

297 In another 20 years Rachel Corrie's image will be on the front of the new $10,000 coin, or what we used to call the "penny."
The USS Rachel Corrie, coming up. Right after Rache Corrie Elementary School, and a new national holiday commemorating her. /spits

It's not so much the leafy trees that are belching copious amounts of pollen here. The damn evergreens' comes are actually "puffing" their fetid loads.
I got here last June, almost a year, and this heat has surprised me. Canada is right up the road and its 93 today. Hotter here than in FL. Last year it was dismal, wet and chilly. Today, not so much.

I don't know when it started, but a long time ago English professors decided to find homosexuality and feminine strife in every single piece of literature.
Everything was interpreted as social commentary -- always a complaint about white patriarchal society.
They gave their students assignments to write about the social commentary, thus these interpretations became accepted fact.
Sometimes a story is just a story, as Freud might say.

My bride was with a biometrics system from fairly early on. It used fingerprints, retinas, and facial characteristics through hi-def photography. It also mated up your physical characteristics with an Analysts Notebook setup that would make your associations, AO, and familial connections. Made 1984 look primitive. If this is what they are talking about...

There is the problem with living in AZ. By the time I get home from work, all you East Coast bastids are deep in your cups. I have to drink twice as fast to catch up.
Okay, problem may not be the right word. But dammit, it takes a bit to catch up.

I was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off getting ready for a broker open house. Then I got to drive around in the car for a couple of hours with crazy dog. I *thought* the crazy cat would be ok if we left her here....she usually just hides from strangers. Got a call from our broker to 'come get the cat....she's hissing at people and won't let them in your bedroom.' LOL!
The good news is that a couple looked at the house today too and may be making an offer....we'll see. They are definitely interested. There broker called our with questions, i.e., 'What fixtures will you be leaving?'. If that happens, we will be heading your way sooner than we thought.

Kind of OT, if such a thing exists on a thread like this, my wife asked me, "Did you hear all the planes flying around last night?"
I said no, but then I recalled hearing a small prop-driven plane the night before.
And today I hear about the Quincy Mass. plane thing, and now I'm all paranoid.
Drones are much quieter, inaudible, really, or so I hear. So, should I be ascared? Are they dusting us with happy gas? Would that be a bad thing?
FYI, I'm in NoCo.

518: Simpson Mazzoli Act back in 1986 was going to solve the illegal immigration issue. It was amnesty for anyone then in the country, combined with a requirement to provide proof of citizenship to be hired at any job. That's working out real well.
We don't need biometric IDs to end illegal immigration; and IDs alone won't fix the problem, anymore than new gun laws will stop the next Newtown. The only way any immigration rules will work is if we have the will to enforce them. Serious enforcement will look ugly: FBI agents entrapping Harry Homeowner as he tries to pick up day labor at the Home Depot, INS raids on employers, sob stories of families being deported. Everyone in Congress wants to talk about immigration reform but nobody expects we will actually do something about it.

Yeah, we can hear the drones. The USBP drones (Predator B) launch from Libby Army Air Field 14 miles NW of me. They max out at about 10k feet above the house (around 15k ASL). They aren't loud, but we live in a quiet rural area that allows for any aircraft to be heard. That includes ultra-lights that cartels fly up here (one dropped a load just 2.5 miles west of me several weeks ago).
My thermal Scout monocular sees them without problem.
