Putting The Comprehensive In Immigration Reform
— andy

Universal biometric IDs for every American? What could go wrong?

The immigration reform measure the Senate began debating yesterday would create a national biometric database of virtually every adult in the U.S., in what privacy groups fear could be the first step to a ubiquitous national identification system.

Buried in the more than 800 pages of the bipartisan legislation (.pdf) is language mandating the creation of the innocuously-named “photo tool,” a massive federal database administered by the Department of Homeland Security and containing names, ages, Social Security numbers and photographs of everyone in the country with a driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID.

Seriously, You Guys. It's not like it's a tattoo or anything.

So neither Mexican landscapers nor Somalian muslims will have any worries about undue scrutiny of their movements and actions.    But Big Brother will be watching those dangerous pot-lucking Lutherans and Tea Party Ralliers what pick up after themselves, denying the poor hard working union parksworkers a change at overtime.

My handprint had to be re-read and my access reset about a dozen times in the first year.  It sucks when your weight is fluctuating or if you are susceptible to swelling in the hands.

It would be sort of hard to pull the dead hand out and flop it on the reader when there is an armed guard or two at the portals.

Will this law make it difficult or impossible to protect innocent life from a government intent on their imprisonment or death? Although I pretty much made everything up on the spot I told them I called this test my "Jews In The Attic Test". Furthermore I told them that if it fails this test no further discussion is really needed, the law must be opposed in the most vigorous manner possible."

74 There is nothing to fear here, because we know absolutely no Progressives would ever attempt some kind of whispering campaign against a private citizen whom they somehow knew to be at odds with them politically. Obviously, deep-blue districts can safely go along with whatever the hell this thing says, but red and purple states need a good reason to deep six this thing.

I'm actually optimistic that it will go down in flames after the gun control bill failed.  It might get through the Senate, but I don't see it going through the House.

I see that there is a new book out, Let Me Stand Alone: The Journals of Rachel Corrie.

"Rachel CorrieÂ’s determination to make a better, more peaceful world took her from Olympia, Washington, to the Middle East, where she died in 2003 while trying to block the demolition of a Palestinian familyÂ’s home in the Gaza Strip. A twenty-three-year-old American activist, Corrie also possessed a striking gift for poetry, writing, and drawing. Let Me Stand Alone, a selection of her journals and letters as chosen by her family, reveals her story in her own hand, from her precocious reflections as a young girl to her final e-mails. CorrieÂ’s words - whether writing about the looming issues of our time or the ordinary angst of an American teen - bring to life all that it means to come of age: a dawning sense of self, a thirst for oneÂ’s own ideals, and an evolving connection to others, near and far."

I am personally not, I love that store-bought Taco Bell Mild Sauce. I don't even consider it hot, but you can *taste* it. I have a friend who used to say at restaurants, "If you stir the sauce with a spoon and when you take the spoon out, the spoon is still there - it's not hot enough."

271 The ISM got a copy of an anonymous letter that day accusing the girls of being sluts and only in Gaza to fuck the men. So, the girls decided to be more "committed" to the cause. I think this contributed to Corrie taking even more risks. When she realized she fucked up and turned to get away, she fell and tumbled down the earth mound and was covered and smacked with a slab of concrete.

One of his cabinet members (don't recall which one) said something like "we could have something much cheaper, waterproof, unique to everyone and 100% tamper proof...a tattoo". That cabinet member was in a small minority of the cabinet that opposed the idea. Eventually it did not happen, obviously.

I don't know when it started, but a long time ago English professors decided to find homosexuality and feminine strife in every single piece of literature.

Everything was interpreted as social commentary -- always a complaint about white patriarchal society.

They gave their students assignments to write about the social commentary, thus these interpretations became accepted fact.

Sometimes a story is just a story, as Freud might say.

352 I was joking about the Obama Administration outrage schedule, really. But . . . In a shocking affront to the United States Constitution, the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education have joined together to order that virtually every college and university in the United States establish unconstitutional speech codes that violate the First Amendment and decades of legal precedent. In a letter yesterday, the government mandated a breathtakingly broad definition of sexual harassment that makes virtually every student in the United States a harasser, completely ignoring the First Amendment. Link at nick. It ain't Benghazi or Fast and Furious or IRS but it's pretty much par for the dissent-suppression course.

Took a while but i stopped cringing around him. And he's gone from a major player in real estate to a minimum wage employee. Just desserts are just...and sweet. 3. For those who remember I'm happy to report my son's neuro appointment went well. Still need an MRI to check for scarring from his low oxygen levels but much reason to be relieved otherwise. And the trip to file court documents came within a whisker of being FUBAR. But it is moving slowly along. Boys in question have informed their mother they are moving 1 June, court or no.

At least they didn't bust him for "underage". This morning in court they charged him $40 bail, 5 hours community service, and no charge on his record, no court costs, no other fine, according to him.

I told him he was lucky, and it's just a slap on the wrist. Wish it were the first time. Dumbass.

The good news is that a couple looked at the house today too and may be making an offer....we'll see.  They are definitely interested.  There broker called our with questions, i.e., 'What fixtures will you be leaving?'.   If that happens, we will be heading your way sooner than we thought.

522 I think we should have an extensive ONT entirely based on flaws and open questions in popular movies. One of the key plot points in Jack Reacher was a deliberate shot into two fruit juice plastic tanks (dispenser) to preserve a "pristine bullet." Most of us know what a bullet does when it hits water. Especially the hollow-point boattail shown in the pictures. Did the latest Bond girl live or die? Actually, now that I think about it, I don't see that many movies.

518: Simpson Mazzoli Act back in 1986 was going to solve the illegal immigration issue. It was amnesty for anyone then in the country, combined with a requirement to provide proof of citizenship to be hired at any job. That's working out real well.

We don't need biometric IDs to end illegal immigration; and IDs alone won't fix the problem, anymore than new gun laws will stop the next Newtown. The only way any immigration rules will work is if we have the will to enforce them. Serious enforcement will look ugly: FBI agents entrapping Harry Homeowner as he tries to pick up day labor at the Home Depot,  INS raids on employers, sob stories of families being deported. Everyone in Congress wants to talk about immigration reform but nobody expects we will actually do something about it.

619 So a story for the Horde. From my wife's facebook page. The wife has a friend she went to high school with who posted this story. The friend has a son who has fairly severe hearing loss. They come out of a store, target/walmart/wherever, and are getting into their car as someone is trying to get out of their car next to them. The boy in the car next to them tells her son to move. Wife's friend knows he didn't hear it. But before she can say something, the other mom tells her son to spit on her kid and shove him out of the way. Wife's friend hurries around and puts her kid in the car and the confronts the mom. The other mother, upon being informed that the boy couldn't have heard because of his hearing loss comments "well it ain't my fault your boy is some kind of retard." The wife's friend's status ends with "Sure hope she can get that tooth fixed" with a pic of her hand with a big gash in it. AWESOME.

Yeah, we can hear the drones. The USBP drones (Predator B) launch from Libby Army Air Field 14 miles NW of me. They max out at about 10k feet above the house (around 15k ASL). They aren't loud, but we live in a quiet rural area that allows for any aircraft to be heard. That includes ultra-lights that cartels fly up here (one dropped a load just 2.5 miles west of me several weeks ago).

My thermal Scout monocular sees them without problem.

636 People are going to look at this like it's something out of Revelation, for the perfectly good and sufficient reason that it *is* very much like something out of Revelation. What fun.

While I realize this violates the Godwin (?)  rule, I have to ask why no one has drawn the comparison to Nazi tatoos of Jews?

Gov't ought *not* have the power to identify, track and therefore control us as citizens.

In other words, it has absolutely no effect on democrat voters.

647 This proposed bill will continue to eat away at states rights and before you know it we will not recognize the 10th Amendment of the Constitution, this current government is expanding their federal enumerated powers that the original framers had reserved to the states or the people. We are a Federal Republic ... not a federal democracy ... huge difference ... jeff
