Rachel Jeantel: I Believe Trayvon Threw The First Punch

Wow.

Now let's note what this isn't: It's not actually witness testimony. Jeantel doesn't know just like you don't know and just like I don't know.

Well actually I know -- I know Martin threw the first punch and the only actually effective punches -- because I'm a blogger and I have a limited means of viewing, accessing, and even interacting with the past via a method I won't go into.

So this is just her supposition, which means just as much as anyone's, except mine, which is accurate because I was there but can't talk about it and just stop asking about it already.

But Jeantel did know Martin as a person. And she's not only not saying "I could never see Trayvon attacking someone," she's actually saying "Yes, based on my impressions of Trayvon Martin, I'd expect him to be the aggressor in a confrontation."

Oh, and since we're on the subject (are we ever off it?), O'Reilly & guests think that NBC is going to have to pay Zimmerman millions for their defamation, and O'Reilly isn't crying about that at all.

I had a buddy of mine this morning say he could see both sides of it and that he could see that Trayvon was afraid of George and would throw the first punch.

It occurred to me that this was of course bullshit, and I explained if Trayvon was afraid of George he had two other options. First, run home, which he didn't do (and had an excuse for) Second, call the cops. He had a phone he just hung up with Jabba on, if he really was scared, why not call someone for help?

This assumes he wouldn't just knock on a neighbor's door for help.I personally still think Tray Tray was in the local gang and casing the place when he got caught, but oh well.

Would love to see a HUGE verdict (a settlement that is publicized would be not too bad either) against any of the media outlets that covered this in the despicable manner they did. That might put just a little crimp in their style going forward.

 

It's not so much that I want Zimmerman to become some sort of martyr/counter-hero/symbol or anything, but would like the media to have to realize their bias and desire to fan the flames of race hatred may come at a substantial cost. Could this be a bit of a teachable moment to the dinosaur brained MSM?

While the rest of the letter went on the express the view that we are all created in the image of God (which of course I fully agree with) and that it would be good to have more ethnic diversity in our congregations and appreciation for our various backgrounds (which I also agree with) I can almost guarantee that the Bishop had little to devote to watching the trial and that some of his views come right from CNN. For obvious reasons I cannot write to him and express my true feelings.

She's more or less like the Oracle at Delphi.  The real version (not the myth).  She says something entirely unintelligible and then people put into it what they want to hear (then she just simply says "uh-huh" back.)

No, the witness that got called anyway testified that "yes Trayvon was astride and ground and pounding G Zimmerman" and that folks as Ayoob said "is the ballgame" at that point G Zimmerman was engaged in a lawful shoot when Martin said "You're gonna die" and reached towards his waist....

if G Zimmerman is guilty based on the evidence so are about 80 cops I can think of in cases of shooting unarmed individuals going for their weapon...

A million in trust will yield you a government clerk's salary. Say another million for the benefits package, like some health insurance, that he'd be likely to need. Plastic surgery, belly banding, standard new identity setup, perhaps in a far-off land, I can see several million there, without even getting into pain and suffering of never being able to see his parents (and friends of several races) again.

Now imagine, that amount will have to be one-third of the settlement, because the lawyers get the top two-thirds. Frankly, NBC hasn't got enough. Damn sure the DOJ doesn't.

88 I've had trouble finding a good map today but IIRC, the wee child trayvon fled the seen while talking to Rachel while Zimm stayed in the top of the "T" and then Trayvon returned to confront him. The wee baby child Trayvon was then able to overwhelm Zim and commence beating on him whereupon Zim screamed for help for 45 seconds. Finally, upon seeing Zim's gun, Trayvon's penultimate words were "you are going to die tonight" so clearly, Zim was reckless by checking out a 6' tall child who was acting weird.

Probably right in this case from what I've seen and heard. But a lot is in how you carry yourself. A friend of mine was about 5 ft 10, 60ish, not in great shape. A terrific, funny guy who just happened to be a Marine. If he turned serious on you in a confrontation, you would have to be high on something, huge, or crazy to fool with him. 

A guy was stalking his (soon to be) wife. A few quiet words with the stalker-not even a real threat- ended that immediately and forever.

257 67 - FS, I do not know what kind of access you would have, but one of my pet peeves is when a man of God uses current events as a springboard into Biblical truths.   The flow is better in the other direction.

From what I have read, GZ seemed to be a stand-up guy in helping the black community.  Maybe the bishop just feels it would of been more Christ-like for him to have politely died.  I like to think that GZ has exhausted his soul searching on things he would have done differently, but sometimes circumstances don't allow the opportunity.

The whole point of the program is to encourage young kids (ages 5-11) to start to read and then provide incentive for them to continue to read with comprehension, not just speed. My reading of "turning the other cheek" has always seen it as giving up one's own rights.  

Consider the other examples from the sermon - one had a duty to carry a soldier's things for a mile, but one also has a right to not do any more than a mile- so Jesus tells the child of God to do two miles - above and beyond.  

Choosing to do things that bless the un-righteous is to be perfect as God as perfect - demonstrating one's lineage.

Nope - first punch doesn't really have anything to do with it.  Example: you meet some hoodrat in a dark alley.  He spits at you or makes some other move that appears to be intended to make contact with you.  You punch him.  That may be considered privileged because you were in fear of unwanted contact.  He pulls a knife after you punch him.  You shoot him because you are in fear for your life.  You threw the first punch, yet you still get to claim self-defense.

 

First punch *may* signify an unwarranted attack, but it does not automatically.  As a hypothetical, if, on their initial contact, Zimmerman had said "Come here, you little fuck! I've got you now!" and reached to grab Trayvon, Trayvon would have been justified in punching him (the broken nose shot, maybe) - he'd be defendening himself from an apparent attack.  However, when he pinned Zimmerman and kept punching him, he crossed the line from legitimate defense, and Zimmerman became privileged to use lethal force because he was in legitimate fear of his life.

Matthew 26: 51-56  in verse :56 it says that the scripture might be fulfilled (he was to be a lamb led dumb before the shearers) --so what does this have to do with self defense?  If anything the high priest's servant would have the right to exercise it.  Jesus just saved Peter's butt from punishment.

Romans 13:1-5 on obeying the higher powers is talking about the higher powers IN THE CHURCH (see verse 6) (apostles, prophets, pastors...)  NOT some government authority.  There are some really stupid translations of this out there that say to pay your taxes gladly.

Otherwise Paul, Peter et al. would have stopped preaching the second someone said stop.   Context!!!!
