Rat Out Your Buddy In The Great White North [OregonMuse]
— Open Blogger

Ha! This is a real radio commercial put out by Northstar Ford in Alberta, Canada as a way to deal with a recent theft at one of their dealerships:

This was put up sometime in 2012. I wonder if the thieves were ever caught?

9 With the passing of Eydie Gorme, I looked for one of her Muriel cigar commercials, and found the audio. There was a time when popular female singers actually could  sing, rather than warbling and yodeling. Give a listen :

20 I was just noticing the other day, hubcaps are a thing of the past, aren't they?  Hardly any car has them anymore (not just because they got stolen).  Plus, crime has gone high-tech, I spent half the morning on the phone with AmEx cause some skeevy mofo in Florida somehow got my card info AND my address and gifted some slut in SC with a waffle iron from Bed Bath and Beyond.  Like I wouldn't notice.  {spits}

Posted by: Peaches at August 11, 2013 04:23 PM (8lmkt)

21 I went through several pages of Dogpile search on the matter, and I didn't see any indication that the perp was caught, or the wheels returned. Quite possibly the thieves were from out of town, and left, never to return. Ft. Mac has quite a large transient worker population. I could see one or two guys working, there, staying in a camp, getting laid off or fired, and stealing the wheels on their way out of town to earn some drinking money in the big city, Edmonton.

22 found an interview with Oprahs latest victim. The Swiss sales woman. Here is a bit:
".What did you do?

I went to a showcase and showed her one of these Jennifer Aniston bags that are very popular. I explained to her that these bags were available in various materials and sizes, as I always do. She looked at a rack behind me. Far up. That's where the 35,000 franc crocodile bags are exhibited. I told her that it was the same bag I was holding right there in my hand. Only that it was much more expensive. I was happy to show her other bags.

Oprah Winfrey claimed on US TV that you refused to hand the bag to her for racist reasons.

That's absolutely not true! I even asked her whether she she wanted to have a closer look at it! Ms. Winfrey then looked around the shop again but didn't say anything else.

Winfrey claimed that you said this to her: "You don't want to look at this bag. It's too expensive. You can't afford it."

That is not true. That's absurd. I would never say anything like that to a customer. Really not! Good manners and politeness are the alpha and omega in this business."
Can't do the rest because of space. the original pies was in Blick, a German lanquage Swiss mag. You will find a translation at Islam versus Europe, a Euro blog on dhimitude.

Posted by: Mike Hammer at August 11, 2013 08:21 PM (aDwsi) Adele's definitely the exception to the rule. The mainstream poptarts need a shitload of digital trickery to sound really good, but there are plenty of less mainstream acts that have genuine vocal talent. I always fall back on Celtic songstresses because they've got such lovely voices, but you get a lot of great singers in folk, bluegrass, and jazz. If Christina Aguilera or Beyonce would quit trillowing all over the place when they sing and just sang the notes as they're written, either one of them could record a KILLER jazz album. But all that warbling in the rafters is aggravating as hell.

36 Taiwanese personal computer maker Asustek Computer Inc. (2357.TW) said Friday it will no longer make Windows RT tablets, which run a version of Microsoft Corp.Â’s (MSFT) Windows 8 for ARM Holdings PLCÂ’s (ARMH) chips, citing weak sales.

“It’s not only our opinion, the industry sentiment is also that Windows RT has not been successful,” Asustek Chief Executive Jerry Shen told The Wall Street Journal on the sidelines of its post-earnings conference.

Mr. Shen said Asustek will make Windows 8 devices solely for Intel Corp.Â’s (INTC) chips, due to the systemÂ’s backward compatibility that Windows RT lacks. Critics of Windows RT have said the operating system lacks enough applications to compete with Google Inc.Â’s (GOOG) Android or Apple Inc.Â’s (AAPL) iOS.

96 >>The worst propaganda movie ever made "The Grapes of Wrath", 1940, is on TCM I read the book in HS i think (not for school, on my own) and I loved it. It was so over the top that even as a kid I knew it was crap, but i loved the reading an acclaimed book that was such obvious crap. it made me feel superior. I remember being amazed at these people expecting someone else to provide for them at every turn and getting angry at the banks, and farmers and Californians for not giving them shit. I always wondered about the forgotten man in that book. The people that played by the rules and only wanted to live in peace. Anyway, I always think that most of this propaganda doesn't work because deep down people know. They know skittles boy was a thug, they know Georgetown condom chick is a slut, and they know barry is not one of us.

97 Ah, I love the net. Here's a blast from the past....re-presented with slight modification. "What I Believe." I believe in rainbows and puppy dogs and fairy tales. And I believe in the family - Mom and Dad and Grandma.. and Uncle Tom, who waves his penis. And I believe 8 of the 10 Commandments. And I believe in going to church every Sunday, unless there's a game on. And I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, wholesome and natural things.. that money can buy. And I believe it's derogatory to refer to a woman's breasts as "boobs", "jugs", "winnebagos" or "golden bozos".. and that you should only refer to them as "hooters". And I believe you should put a woman on a pedestal.. high enough so you can look up her dress. And I believe in equality, equality for everyone.. no matter how stupid they are, or how much better I am than they are. And, people say I'm crazy for believing this, but I believe that robots are stealing my luggage. And I believe I made a mistake when I bought a 30-story 1-bedroom apartment. And I believe the Battle of the Network Stars should be fought with guns. And I believe that Barack Obama can make this country what it once was - an arctic region covered with ice.

201 @9 I don't think that was Eydie Gorme doing the Muriel ads. Muriel sponsored the wild and wacky experimental comedy program of Ernie Kovacs. Edie Adams was his partner, and she sang some version of their jingle on every show. She was beautiful, really belted them out, and IIRC was a dancer as well. Referenced in a Tom Waits song, too. Not to take anything away from the great Eydie Gorme.

The Granada was a classic of its unfortunate period. It had McPherson strut front suspension, still rare then, and the great little 200 Six that was meant for the Mustang. It was light for its size -- which was on the compact size back then -- and handled way better than average. That was an engine that would last forever, and if you could stand to tear off some analog plumbing, it could be tri-powered.

209 COJ USMC and USAF have been.  But when they go into hover mode they have in the past tended to start pooling leaked fuel at the bottom of the nacelles where the hot exhaust is also.  And if they have an engine fire or an engine fails there is a cross-shaft running the length of the wing that is supposed to keep the failed propeller turning off of power from the good engine, well that was another failure area - the cross-shaft.

224 IMO, most of the V22's lethal mechanical issues *should* have been foreseen in testing.

Too many trying to make it pass the tests, and not enough black hearted evil bastards asking "what if", breaking shit on purpose, and intentionally fucking up maintenance items to see what happens when the ball gets dropped.

Its easy to make something "work" and thread its way through a set of performance tests.

Its not so easy to make it work, or at least not kill people, when shits all busted, worn out, and gone pear shaped.

I've been kinda irritated by some of the auto recalls that have happened lately too.  Some of that shit's just screaming inadequate testing.
