(finish Sunday)- Reminder: Saturn at Peak Brightness Tonight
— CAC

If you haven't bothered to take a look at the ringed planet yet, tonight it will be at it's most obvious, thanks to it's closest approach to earth. Quick finder map below along with a few objects discussed in the Wednesday astronomy threads.

FindingSaturn

Map generated by Stellarium

Keep an eye out for Titan, Saturn's largest moon, which should appear in large binoculars or a small telescope. Saturn is far too bright an object to be ruined by light pollution, so regardless where you live, take some time out this evening to spot it. Clear skies and keep looking up!

OT in a way, but still involving heavenly bodies. Me and Mrs. Mahon were driving down Boulder canyon yesterday, a lovely warm spring afternoon in CO. on the deck of a small house across the creek was a smokin' hot woman wearing nothing but the lower portion of a pink bikini. She was dancing and laughing. I think there might have been a guy with her, but who the hell knows.

"Holy shit! Did you see that?" I asked the Mrs. She hadn't. I told her. She said, Huh. Well, it is Boulder."

I guess I'll look at Saturn tonight, but I bet it won't be as much fun.

A Nevada psychiatric hospital has over the past several years purportedly released, then bused hundreds of patients to states across the country, prompting a federal warning and multiple investigations included two in California, the top destination.

The investigations into Las VegasÂ’ Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital come after a 48-year-old male patient arrived in February at a Sacramento facility in a suicidal and confused state while out of food and medication and with no contacts, identification or access to Social Security payments...

76 I'm marinating lamb chops right now, which I'll grill on the Weber. I blame you for your 'pie' comment a couple hours ago, which caused me to make a blueberry pie, which is currently cooling off. It was a little warm, but a massive injection of whipped cream on a slice of it cooled it off enough for a quality control inspection. Not sure if an entire stick of butter in the bottom crust plus many tablespoons of brown sugar provided the necessary sweetness to offset the tartness of the blueberries. Another half dozen QC tests should provide the answer. I'd share, but QC takes priority.

78 I tried, and nobody will talk about those Craft International Services private security personnel who were widely observed and photographed near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, wearing security ear-pieces, hats and T-shirts bearing the companyÂ’s skull logo, and all wearing the same dark coats, khaki pants and combat boots, some carrying what appear to have been radiation detectors. (I got no hard answers, though there were some inadvertent hints given.)

I first contacted a man identifying himself as Jack Fleming, a public affairs person with the Boston Athletic Assn., sponsor of the marathon. Fleming advised me that “If you want to ask about that you should contact the Commonwealth (of Massachusetts) Executive Office of Public Safety.” I called that agency and spoke with the public information office there, a man named Terrell. He first said, "Did you call the Marathon organizers?" When I replied that I had, and that they had said to call his office, he replied, "They did?" Then he said, “You should call the City of Boston Police Department. They released a security plan to some media organizations.”

Indeed they had released that plan to the Boston Globe. Based upon the information it got from the police the article the Globe ran, did report that the Police had deployed “air patrols, K9 units, and more than 1,000 uniformed officers and soldiers along the 26-mile course and the finish line,” but it made no mention of the private contracting of soldiers-for-hire, which is what Craft International does (see the Craft website). News agency Reuters reported, meanwhile, that a top official for the Massachusetts state Homeland Security Department, Undersecretary Kurt Schwartz, told a group at Harvard U. that his agency had “planned” for a possible bombing attack on the marathon, even running a “table-top” exercise about such an event a week before the race.

80 54 Mars and Venus are it for me. Too much light pollution and vegetation in the yars Posted by: @PurpAv at April 28, 2013 05:37 PM (32UBw) Venus is always bright, but Mars is actually pretty faint most of the time, except near opposition. Jupiter and Saturn are more consistently bright. In order of brightness: Sun Moon Venus Jupiter Sirius (a star) Mars can occasionally get brighter than Jupiter, but it's pretty rare; it only happens for a couple of months around favorable oppositions. Maybe CAC has some actual numbers as to how often it happens.

But more likely the pitcher and catcher got crossed up. Catcher thinks one thing is coming, pitcher throws something else. Plus the pitcher missed where the catcher was set up by the width of the plate. My guess? Catcher was expecting a slider to break back out across the plate.

124 Ooooh.  My husband told me something terrifying that he said happened to me on Ambien the night before he left for ATL (that would be Thursday).  As he was leaving, I was waking up, and he said, "Is that guy still after you?"  I had no idea WTH he was talking about, and he filled me in this afternoon.

He said I was sound asleep (again, on Ambien) when he came to bed and was reading.  He said I got up and walked down the hall, came back, and was sitting on the side of the bed quietly talking.  (This gives me the freaking shivers.)  He said my eyes were open and I was staring in front of me, and speaking quietly, saying, "Stop following, and leave my son alone."  He waved his hand in front of my face and realized I was "asleep."  He said, "Honey, there's no one here with you except me."  He said I replied, "You're wrong."

Jeebus.  No more Ambien for me.  I have NO MEMORY of anything except falling asleep and waking up the next morning.

One morning, I woke up and there was no glass there.  There were, however, full glasses of water on the dining room table, the breakfast room table, a side table in the living room, and another in the family room.

I didn't take Ambien for months after that.  Then, I let my guard down....

163 Earth Week is a lousy time to turn up the brightness on Saturn.  I mean, what kind of message does that send to the children?

164 What does it mean when (in the cmd screen) it tells me that it can't do something with my wireless when the media is disconnected. Or something like that? 1st, check your phone or TV. (You get your intertubez from the same place that offers you one or the other.) Everything working okay? Good! To be expected. 2nd, Sounds like you have a router problem. (It's ALWAYS a router problem, just like it's NEVER Lupus on Doctor TV shows) So, what I'm gonna have you do, Ma'm...Can,can you get to your computer, where it's plugged in? Yeah, that's great! What I want you to do now is unplug it. Yeah, that strip of "outlets" where you have various lamps and pencil sharpeners and other bullshit plugged in. Just unplug the one that leads to the box thingee. Oh, you have a laptop? Well, even better! No, no, Ma'm, still unplug it. No reason to get all dusty without cause! [chuckles] What I need for you to do next, is take the computer in your hands... and give it a Stern Lecture. No, no! I'm afraid that just wasn't patronizing enough. Best you can do, eh? Allrighty then! Have you tried shaking it? Just exactly like you would a baby...Yes,yes, with real violence! That'll show 'em! Also, you might want to reset your Wi-Fi router...

165 Ambien is bad stuff, stay the heck away from it. My wife used to take it for sleeping. Then she started somnabulating (walking in her sleep) which was basically OK as long as she stayed in the house.

But she didn't stay in the house. I eventually caught her outside in her night clothes walking around like a zombie.

Did I mention that we live in the city? It's not like you can go a wandering about in your night clothes on a country road while on ambien. More like you will get flattened by a city bus.

@Jane D'oh. For godsakes whatever you do don't put Ambien into your hasselback taters.  That won't fix your arteries nor correct the zombie issues.

Had a good excuse for the first one. Not so much this time.

So ronettes, meet a guy, go for it, he takes off his shirt and pants and is wearing a teddy, garters and stockings. Is he still doable?

180 My doc was hesitant to write scrip for Lorazepam. Said it might be addictive.

Told him, fer God's sake, doc when I get panic breathing attacks it's the only thing that returns normal breathing. Plus, I'm 75 yars* old. Frankly, my Doc, I don't give a damn
about addiction. Breathing is effing critical.

*Thanks to  Purp for the great word.
